squid game the challenge is so fucked up and i can't stop laughing because they just played red light green light. and the lil ink packs popped their asses if they moved. and then the players would cry or cuss or dramatically fall like a corpse and this really is the wildest reality show game. i've heard so much shitty things happen behind the scenes?! and the really had these players making little interview on how they wanna just pay off their house or car. and then they put their job titles underneath and one guy is a food delivery person and it really shows how truly fucked we all are.

imagine watching squid game and gaining nothing from it but thinking, hey let's try it for real. sure nobody gets killed. but the same motivations are there. fear of staying in debt and poverty.

i grew up watching reality game shows. i'm not a genius. i'd suck at something like jeopardy. i'm awful with bugs so no fear factor. survivor? nah. too short for america's next top model and i'm not skinny either. lbr i would cry because of a haircut and get booted off anyways.

but i am broke. i have no good job aspects in my life. i have no future planned really due to being broke.

i would put on that green jogging suit and run my ass off in red light green light.

capitalism has left us in a failed society. sure we boast about democracy and things getting better. but at the end of the day we're really living in a failed state with a handful of billionaires holding a piggy bank above us saying things like "you too can make it if you believe and work hard"

shit is so fucked up. that woman just wanted to pay off a car. not buy a mansion. not jet set and see the bahamas. just pay off her fucking car she needs to survive in this world.

the kids are not alright. neither are the adults. we're in hell.

but yeah. the ink packs popping the numbered players in green from a random person in a pink suit in the backroom while wearing a creepy mask is solid entertainment. i guess this is just a modern take on the gladiators in an arena. haha look at that loser trying to survive this impossible task to live a decent life in this world. wild.

My mom’s been watching the squid game reality show and while I have a lot of objections about the show existing just sort of ideologically and ethically, for better or worse I actually ended up really intrigued the farther in she got because the behavior of the contestants presents a level of teamwork and selflessness and bonding not present in the original show. Like. These people really band together. And that’s not to say there aren’t people who behave selfishly bc there are of course, there always will be— Be even the people who make selfish decisions aren’t behaving that way 100% of the time. They may be selfish one minute and then do something to help or connect with someone else the next.

And I think given the fact that the original show is so bleak, and presents this supposed “critique” of late stage capitalism but without any possible solutions, and just sort of dissolves into its own fatalism— it’s really striking to see people placed in a similar-(ish) situation insist on working together and supporting each other in a way the original show either chose not to represent or made a point to “deconstruct” via having those relationships fail.

And ofc it’s easy to say “oh it would be different if people were actually dying” or w/e but I really don’t think that’s true. Things would be more intense, obviously, and emotions much more heightened— Any swings made would be bigger. But at the same time, those higher stakes would also only make the bonds between some people even stronger, even as it broke others apart.

And ofc there’s an irony in having watched the original show just sort of shrug its way through the tragedy (like: nothing anyone can do 😔 so sad 😔 we’re all just doomed, nobody question the idea that things could actually change, that’s silly) and then as soon as you put a bunch of real people together in this high stress situation they’re within days going “hey what if we just unionized”

Fuck the Squid Game the challenge discourse, just go watch total forgiveness in order to understand how fucking crushing living in a capitalistic hellscape is while still being entertained

My sister was watching Squid Game the Challenge and I was like marginally watching with her while we were cooking on Thursday

And like it's already bad that this exists but the fact that they have the little exploding ink packs? And make them play dead when they lose? I was literally thinking to myself “No surely they wouldn’t, that would be really fucked up, there’s no reason to do that” about three seconds before one of them popped during the shape cookie game and my jaw hit the FLOOR.

Like the entire thing is in bad taste and misses the point by light years, but having THAT is absolutely disgusting terrible garbage shit taste and is completely unnecessary, why the fuck would you have that

Listen I am aware that the fact that Squid Game The Challenge exists is proof that our society is fucked. I started watching it ironically cause the people pretend-dying was hilarious but now I am semi invested.

That being said I came here only to hate on Ashley. She is the worst and she still has the nerve to say "I jumped, didn't I" bitch of course you did, but when there was literally no one else in front of you! Trey deserved better.

And also its very fucked up that no one else except Mai acknowledges it. Like how can you be pissed at Mai for doing exactly what the other one did? And yet no one has even told her how fucked up it was she made Trey jump 3 time...

Anyway, I am pissed
