"Close your eyes," Rei instructed, her voice filled with excitement as she greeted him at the door. After days of working on it—and with a fair amount of help from Futaba—her little project was finally complete. And what better time to reveal it than at night, when the atmospheric lighting would highlight her creation?
She was far too short to cover his eyes herself, so she had to trust him to keep them closed. Rei took his hand, guiding him towards the balcony. "Careful with your feet," she warned, as the feel of the ground beneath them changed, indicating they were stepping onto the paved wooden path that led across to a space with outdoor furniture. There, Rei would finally let go of his hand and sit down on the padded bench. "Okay, open your eyes," she said softly with anticipation in her voice.
When he opened his eyes, he’d see the transformed balcony—a serene, encapsulated garden. Lush greenery, Japanese-style lamps, a layered stone fountain, and bonsai trees surrounding it. The tall bamboo offered privacy, making it their own hidden oasis where she would be able to grow some stuff. Or at least, attempt to do so.
A smile spread across her features as she pulled him closer to sit beside her and take in the view. "I didn’t carry any of the heavy stuff, so don’t worry," she reassured him with a quiet voice "This is what I've been working on. I wanted to surprise you with it."
Tumblr media
"Why?" Was his first question, which already seemed to upset her a little bit, considering it would be simply easier to just play along for once. "Alright, alright," he grumbled, with some worry as he was not sure what would await him in the first place. What is, when he would not like it? Whatever it was. More weird plushies in their kid's room? He could tell that Rei's stupid friend still visited her a bit too often, but since when would that brat care about kids?
He could tell she was guiding him outside once the warmer air from this sunny day hit his skin. Even in the night, the temperatures remained rather high and the stagnant wind did not help either. He was no fool, he had known that she was working outside, considering they both lived here but he had not seen the end product yet. "Man, who did you hire all?" He could only wonder, as he could swear the floor had felt different before, no wood.
Finally he could open his eyes, which widened slightly at the sight as it was entirely different now, like they had an actual garden on top of this building now. "Wow," he mumbled quietly and looked around, smiling awkwardly as he would have never believed that she had such skills. Decoration was one thing but even building a little? Hiding the electricity, the cables rather well. It was done all so neatly, like done by a professional. "Wow..." he could only murmur again as he stepped forward to eye all the details, it really did look nice and he would not consider himself a nature freak now. "She sure will like it." Their kid.
"Oh yeah, right." He had almost forgotten, once sitting beside her. Not sure if he wanted to know, who else lingered here while he was gone, never liking it, when she spend time with others. "It's really nice," he commented, leaning back into the bench. "..." Just watching the calm scene. It really was a nice place now. "That's the second coolest thing you ever did."

How Will Interior Design Evolve in the Future?
Interior design is a dynamic field that continually adapts to new trends, technologies, and cultural shifts. As we look ahead, the future of interior design promises to be even more innovative and responsive to the needs of a changing world. In this article, we'll explore the trends and technologies that are set to shape the interiors of tomorrow.
1. Embracing Sustainable Design
One of the most significant shifts in interior design is the growing emphasis on sustainability. As concerns about climate change and resource depletion intensify, designers are prioritizing eco-friendly materials and practices.
Eco-Friendly Materials: The future will see a rise in the use of sustainable materials like reclaimed wood, bamboo, and recycled metals. These materials not only reduce environmental impact but also add a unique aesthetic to spaces.
Energy Efficiency: Future interiors will incorporate energy-efficient lighting, smart thermostats, and solar panels. Homes and offices will be designed to minimize energy consumption and reduce carbon footprints.
2. Smart Homes and Integrated Technology
Smart home technology is revolutionizing how we interact with our living spaces. The future will see even more integration of smart devices, creating homes that are not only more convenient but also more efficient.
Voice-Controlled Systems: Imagine controlling your entire home with just your voice. From adjusting lighting to setting the thermostat, voice-controlled systems will make daily tasks effortless.
Automated Solutions: Future homes will feature advanced automation systems that can learn and adapt to your routines. This includes everything from automated blinds that adjust based on sunlight to refrigerators that order groceries when supplies run low.
3. Personalization and Customization
As technology advances, so does our ability to personalize our living spaces. The future of interior design will see a shift towards highly customized environments that reflect individual tastes and lifestyles.
3D Printing: 3D printing technology will allow for the creation of bespoke furniture and decor items. This means that you can have unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that perfectly fit your space and style.
Modular Furniture: Future homes will increasingly feature modular furniture that can be easily reconfigured to suit different needs and occasions. This flexibility will be especially valuable in smaller living spaces.
4. Biophilic Design
Biophilic design, which seeks to connect occupants more closely to nature, will become a central theme in future interiors. This approach not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also promotes well-being.
Natural Elements: Expect to see more use of natural materials like stone, wood, and plants. Large windows and indoor gardens will bring the outdoors inside, creating a calming and rejuvenating atmosphere.
Health Benefits: Biophilic design has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and boost productivity. Future interiors will leverage these benefits to create healthier living and working environments.
5. Flexible and Multi-Functional Spaces
As urbanization continues and living spaces become more compact, the need for flexible and multi-functional interiors will grow. Future designs will focus on maximizing the utility of every square foot.
Convertible Furniture: Furniture that can serve multiple purposes will be key. Think of sofas that convert into beds, desks that transform into dining tables, and walls that can be moved to create different room configurations.
Adaptable Layouts: Future homes will feature layouts that can be easily adapted to different activities. This could include movable walls or partitions that allow for seamless transitions between work, leisure, and living spaces.
6. Wellness-Centric Design
The future of interior design will place a greater emphasis on wellness. As people become more health-conscious, interiors will be designed to support physical and mental well-being.
Ergonomic Furniture: Expect to see more furniture designed with ergonomics in mind, promoting better posture and reducing strain.
Air and Water Quality: Future homes will incorporate advanced filtration systems to ensure clean air and water, contributing to overall health.
7. Minimalism with a Twist
While minimalism will continue to be a popular trend, future interior design will infuse it with more personality and warmth.
Warm Minimalism: This approach combines the clean lines and simplicity of minimalism with cozy textures and inviting colors. The result is a space that feels both serene and welcoming.
Functional Minimalism: Future minimalism will focus on functionality, ensuring that every piece of furniture and decor serves a purpose. This creates uncluttered spaces that are easy to maintain and live in.
8. Tech-Infused Spaces
As technology continues to advance, it will become even more seamlessly integrated into our living spaces.
Augmented Reality (AR): AR will allow homeowners to visualize changes to their interiors before making them. This could include trying out new paint colors, furniture arrangements, or decor items virtually.
Smart Kitchens: The kitchens of the future will be equipped with smart appliances that can help with meal planning, grocery shopping, and even cooking. This will make it easier to maintain a healthy diet and save time.
9. Cultural and Global Influences
Globalization and cultural exchange will continue to influence interior design, bringing diverse styles and ideas into homes around the world.
Ethnic Decor: Expect to see more incorporation of decor items from different cultures, adding richness and diversity to interiors.
Global Design Trends: Designers will draw inspiration from around the world, blending traditional and contemporary elements to create unique and eclectic spaces.
10. Focus on Longevity and Timelessness
In contrast to the fast fashion trend in clothing, future interior design will emphasize longevity and timelessness.
Quality Over Quantity: There will be a shift towards investing in high-quality, durable furniture and decor that can withstand the test of time.
Timeless Aesthetics: Interiors will favor classic designs and neutral color palettes that won't go out of style, ensuring that spaces remain elegant and relevant for years to come.
Conclusion
The future of interior design is exciting and full of possibilities. From sustainability and smart technology to personalization and wellness, the trends and innovations on the horizon promise to transform how we live and interact with our spaces. As we move forward, the key will be to embrace these changes while creating environments that are not only beautiful but also functional, healthy, and reflective of our personal values and lifestyles. The interiors of the future will be more than just spaces to live in—they will be spaces that enhance our lives in meaningful ways.

Fire Island Lighthouse - Robert Moses State Park by Paul Saladino Via Flickr: Fire Island Lighthouse was an important landmark for transatlantic ships coming into New York Harbor at the turn of the last century. For many European immigrants, the Fire Island Light was their first sight of land upon arrival in America. The first lighthouse built on Fire Island was completed in 1826. It was a 74-foot high, cream-colored, octagonal pyramid made of Connecticut River blue split stone. The tower was built at the end of the island, adjacent to the inlet. This tower was not effective due to its lack of height. It was almost entirely removed and the stone reused to build the terrace for the present lighthouse. Today a circular ring of bricks and stone are all that remain of the original lighthouse. Due to the westward migration of sand along the beach, known as littoral drift, the inlet is now approximately six miles westward of this site. In 1857 Congress appropriated $40,000 for the construction of a new tower, 168 feet tall. It was lit for the first time on November 1, 1858. This tower was made of red brick, painted a creamy yellow color. The tower was changed to the present day-mark of alternating black and white bands in August 1891.

Enrich Your Your Luxury Real Estate Investment - Design Trends Summer 2023
As professionals, it's crucial to actively seek inspiration beyond our everyday environment. With over 35 years of experience in the luxury real estate market in the Algarve, the ONE Select Properties team understands the importance of staying updated on emerging trends that impact our business. As we approach the summer season, there are exciting indoor and outdoor trends to explore and elevate the ambiance of your home.
Tumblr media
Bring On The Tranquil Neutral Hues Incorporating shades of grey, cream, brown, and pastels into your home can infuse a new sense of warmth, cosiness, and luxurious "hygge" living. Our post-pandemic mindset has influenced our everyday surroundings, and opting for neutral tones allows us to evoke a sense of peace, well-being, warmth, and comfort in our homes. Embracing these colors can make a statement while creating an ambiance that is both inviting and heartwarming.
Tumblr media
Raw And Natural Look And Feel Concrete, oak, plaster, and cork are among the natural materials that are now becoming more than just details, but defining features of living spaces. The trend of "hyper-texturality" brings the raw, unprocessed, and untreated elements of the natural world into our everyday lives. High-contrast and high-pattern grains, as well as bold veining in marble, stone, and wood, are taking center stage in interior design. These distinctive textures are becoming prominent hallmarks, adding depth and character to living spaces, and reflecting a shift towards embracing the authenticity and inherent beauty of natural materials.
Sustainability Takes Centre Stage Net-zero interior design and architecture have become dominant and are expected to influence every aspect of project design, construction, layout, materials, furniture, and decorations. Clients are increasingly seeking environmentally conscious solutions that align with the principles of sustainability and are mindful of our planet's longevity. This includes incorporating trends such as sustainable and self-maintaining gardening solutions, as well as implementing rainwater harvesting and drought-tolerant alternatives. There is a growing demand for design and architecture that prioritises eco-friendly practices and considers the impact on the environment and our way of living, reflecting a heightened awareness of our responsibility towards sustainability.
Tumblr media
Indoor And Outdoor Living As One Thanks to the abundant sunshine with over 300 days of sunshine per year in the Algarve, indoor and outdoor architecture layouts are seamlessly blending together, allowing for delightful living experiences. This trend enables the creation of outdoor cinema lounges, shower areas, center island kitchens, and lush al-fresco dining spaces that make you feel like you are living and entertaining outdoors even when you are inside. This design approach extends the outdoor living season into spring, summer, and autumn months, offering opportunities to fully embrace the beautiful weather and natural surroundings of the Algarve region throughout the year.
Designing enchanting, uplifting, and distinctive living spaces is essential for maximizing our investment and enjoying the desired lifestyle. Whether you are looking to purchase a property in the Golden Triangle or planning to sell your home in the area, we invite you to get in touch with the ONE Select Properties team. We are committed to helping you find or sell your dream property in the Algarve, and we strive to create extraordinary living experiences that go beyond the ordinary. Contact us today to discuss your real estate needs and discover how we can assist you in achieving your goals.

NAME. Jessica Ashley Black. Jessica was selected by her mother for its popularity at the time. Ashley was chosen by her father, who was hoping to name the first-born son after his father, but figured the name would do for a girl, too.
NICKNAME(S)/TITLE(S). Jess for most people. Jessie is what her grandmother called her and occasionally her parents too when she was a kid. The Master Huntress. Crazy Hunger Games wannabe.
AGE. 21-22 during game events. She was born in 1997.
SPECIES. Human, allegedly.
GENDER. (Cis) female.
ALIGNMENT. Chaotic Neutral.
INTERESTS. Archery, primarily. The great outdoors. In a better world, she takes an interest in aerodynamics. Planes, helicopters, birds, and anything that flies catch her attention and she likes watching them. She's a stone-skipping expert and undefeated champion at anything involving good aim, according to her. She used to play volleyball and basketball in school and enjoyed (and was good at) both. She would have liked traveling but never got to do much of that.
PROFESSION. Thorn in Jacob's side, canonically. She worked various low-paying jobs (cashier, dish washer, waitress, lifeguard for one summer, etc.) and hated each one of them. In a "normal" verse, she does go on to make a tidy living from competing in archery tournaments and such.
BODY TYPE. Athletic, mesomorph. Once a lanky and bony child, she’s grown into quite the imposing young woman, if only it weren’t for the slouched shoulders, ever-present dirt and grime, and the haphazardly layered clothing. She’s got long legs, her hips are on the narrow side, and her shoulders rather broad and well-muscled. Strong arms, back and core muscles from a lifetime of archery and being a very sporty, outdoorsy person in general. If you ask her, her chest is too big and only gets in the way.
EYES. In-game, a very light blue/grey, but I haven’t made up my mind about it. More on this later.
HAIR. Light brown bordering on dirty blonde, a dusty sort of shade. It’s her natural hair color, although she’s dyed her hair in the past. Not quite straight, but not exactly wavy either; somewhere in-between. Thick and surprisingly healthy, even though it’s left completely to its devices. Not prone to getting overly frizzy or split ends, either. Length-wise, it reaches just past her shoulders and Jess doesn’t let it get much longer than that. She cuts her hair herself-- and it shows. The side-swept bangs are also her own creation. It’s not soft, but it’s not very coarse either. The cleanest it’ll ever smell is after she washes it in Dutch’s bunker with whatever he’s got down there.
SKIN. Light brown with warm, olive undertones. She tans well, rarely burns, and does indeed have a tan most of the year with how much she’s outside under the sun. Her skin gets really dry and patchy at times, and her palms and feet are deeply calloused. She is covered in scars, both recent and old, and any number of other marks and bruises. Burn scars, gunshot scars, arrow scars, scars from getting stabbed and scratched and mauled. Few of those are from accidents and mishaps, most of them from peggies and wildlife. One of them is from her father.
HEIGHT. 183 cm or about 6ft. She takes after her father, but her mother wasn’t short either.
VOICE. Here.
COMPANIONS. She’s a lone wolf. Works alongside the deputy only out of necessity and extraordinary circumstances.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS. “What the fuck is a relationship? Bitch, I’ll kill you.”
ANTAGONISTS. Peggies <3
COLORS. Greens, mostly. Asparagus green, Amazon green, forest green, pine green. Chestnut, bright artery blood red, caput mortuum. Plain black, too.
FOODS. It’s either instant ramen, canned food, and energy bars or plain venison/boar/fowl/whatever else she hunts roasted over the campfire. She’s a good forager too, of course. Berries, nuts, mushrooms, etc. She eats what she can find, pretty much. Can’t afford to be pretentious about it or develop any real dislikes for particular foods. That said, she rarely eats any dairy products, homemade meals, desserts, or anything that spoils quickly / requires a fridge / is complex to prepare.
DRINKS. Water. Directly from headwaters she knows it’s safe to drink from. She rarely bothers with filtering/boiling water. Immune system of a sewer rat.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES? Yeah, sure, she’ll take whatever you’ve got. She misses being able to get shitfaced and not having to worry about waking up in a cage, though.
SMOKES? Similarly to alcohol, she’ll smoke if someone is offering, whatever they may be offering. Not a habitual smoker.
