The first thought that comes to mind for many when Anaheim is mentioned is Disneyland.  In reality, this Orange County city is about more than just theme park attractions. Sure, a person could spend many pleasurable hours on rides based on their favorite blockbuster. However, beyond the fairytale lights and rollercoasters lays a vibrant city, rich in culture, arts, food, and an amazing array of dream Anaheim houses for sale.
Why Choose To Live In Anaheim
The suburbs surrounding Anaheim offer some of the best standards of living for singles, families, and retirees, to be found anywhere in the country. With a crime rate well below the state average and excellent employment opportunities, it is no wonder that this is the home to the happiest place on earth.
Disneyland not only provides the residents with an easily accessible leisure spot but has also had a massive impact on the local economy, providing many direct and indirect work opportunities. The massive influx of visitors drawn to the Magic Kingdom has done much to develop and refine the food and hospitality industry for many miles around it.
The extensive open spaces dedicated to nature and consistently warm weather make this an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Visit Yorba Regional Park for some hiking and biking, and the River Lakes where fishing and bird watching make for great relaxation.  Sports fans are also not left out as the city is home to the US National Volleyball team, Mighty Ducks, and LA Angels.

The 3 Best Places to Live In Anaheim
  Anaheim Resort
This resort district is found nearby the world-famous Disneyland Resort. It is also home to other well-known venues such as the Anaheim/ Orange County Walk of Stars and the Anaheim Convention Center. It is here that you will also find the bulk of hotels serving the city. This means plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and events for those that enjoy an active nightlife.
While the immediate vicinity has plenty of attractions to keep one occupied on their downtime, you can still enjoy a slower pace and greater outdoor fun by taking a day trip to Huntington Beach or head east for a day of fishing and bird watching at the Santa Ana River. Whatever you are in the mood for, chances are you will not find it far from home in Anaheim Resort.
The convenience of the neighborhood, allowing easy access to workplaces and entertainment spots make this a well sought after neighborhood. Its urban feel and diversity make it a popular choice for young professionals and families. The median home value here according to Niche.com is $324,451, with more than half of the properties being tenant-occupied. Some of the best schools serving the neighborhood include Garden Grove High School, Parkview Elementary, and Louis Lake Intermediate School.
  Platinum Triangle
With Anaheim’s two biggest sports venues, the Honda Center and Angel Stadium, and popular live event site, the City National Grove of Anaheim within its borders, Platinum Triangle is a neighborhood ripe for the picking. It is up and coming with plenty of new housing developments to cater to the growing commercial and industrial zone. Located just east of Anaheim Resort, it is within a short distance of other entertainment venues like the Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Convention Center.
As more retail and commercial construction are ongoing, the neighborhood is projected to transition into a more urbane atmosphere with plenty of eateries, shopping, and entertainment venues to choose from. It has been planned to become pedestrian-friendly for residents and visitors to easily get around venues on foot and offers good public transport access via the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC).
Young professionals are streaming into the neighborhood, taking advantage of the growing high-density housing opportunities, at price points that make this one of the most affordable options in Anaheim. The majority of housing is currently, tenant-occupied. The median home value here is $172,188. There are plenty of Anaheim houses for sale in the area thanks to new constructions ranging anywhere from one-bed condominiums to multi-level townhouses. Some top-rated schools serving the area include McPherson Magnet School and Katella High School.
  Anaheim Hills
For a more suburban feel, Anaheim Hills is the place to be. A planned community to the east of Anaheim and within proximity of the cities of Orange and Yorba Linda, this neighborhood offers much fewer options for a fun night out within its boundaries, but still gives plenty of chances to enjoy the great outdoors. The Anaheim Hills Golf Course attracts many residents and visitors, even away from Disneyland. The rolling green landscape doted by oaks and sycamores provides a beautiful setting to test out the popular par-71 golf course.
Easy access to the Santa Ana Mountains and other dedicated open spaces makes this a great location for outdoor enthusiasts looking for good places to go hiking, biking, and mountaineering.  Just a few minutes’ drive away from Anaheim Resort and Platinum Triangle means you can easily get to a myriad of restaurants, shops, bars, and theme park attractions.
Houses for sale in Anaheim Hills are on the higher end, with median home values currently standing at $678,958. Majority of the properties are owner-occupied with the market mostly made up of single dwelling homes. Property lot sizes tend to be on the larger side with most homes being either single or double-storeyed. Top-rated schools serving the area include Yorba Linda High School and Canyon High School.

cottage in courtallam
Cottage
A cottage is, typically, a small house. It may carry the connotation of being an old or old-fashioned building. In modern usage, a cottage is usually a modest, often cosy dwelling, typically in a rural or semi-rural location. The word comes from the architecture of England, where it originally referred to a house with ground floor living space and  an upper floor of one or more bedrooms fitting under the eaves. In British English the term now denotes a small dwelling of traditional build, although it can also be applied to modern construction designed to  cottage in courtallam  resemble traditional houses ("mock cottages"). Cottages may be detached houses, or terraced, such as those built to house workers in mining villages. The tied accommodation provided to farm workers was usually a cottage, see cottage garden. Peasant farmers were once known as cotters. The holiday cottage exists in many cultures under different names. In American English, "cottage" is one term for such holiday homes, although they may also be called a "cabin", "chalet", or even "camp". In certain countries (e.g. Scandinavia, Baltics, and Russia) the term "cottage" has local synonyms: In Finnish, in Estonian suvila, in Swedish stuga, in Norwegian hytte (from the German word), in Slovak chalupa, in Russian (dacha, which can refer to a vacation/summer home, often located near a body of water).
There are cottage-style dwellings in American cities that were built primarily for the purpose of housing slaves. In places such as Canada, "cottage" carries no connotations of size (compare with vicarage or hermitage).
History
Originally in the Middle Ages, cottages housed agricultural workers and their families. The term cottage denoted the dwelling of a cotter. Thus, cottages were smaller peasant units (larger peasant units being called messuages). In that early period, a documentary reference to a cottage would  cottage in courtallam  most often mean, not a small stand-alone dwelling as today, but a complete farmhouse and yard (albeit a small one). citation needed]Thus, in the Middle Ages, the word cottage (MLat cotagium) denoted not just a dwelling, but included at least a dwelling (domus) and a barn (grangia), as well as, usually, a fenced yard or piece of land enclosed by a gate (portum). The word is probably a blend of Old English cot, cote "hut" and Old French cot "hut, cottage", from Old Norse kot "hut" and related to Middle Low German kotten (cottage, hut) . Examples of this may be found in 15th century manor court rolls. The house of the cottage bore the Latin name: "domus", while the barn of the cottage was termed "grangia".Later on, "cottage" might also have denoted a smallholding comprising houses, outbuildings, and supporting farmland or woods. A cottage, in this sense, would typically include just a few acres of tilled land. Examples of this type included the unnos or "house in a night", built by squatters on a plot of land defined by the throw of an axe from each corner of the property. Much later, from around the 18th century onwards, the development of industry led to the development of weavers' cottages and miners' cottages. citation needed]n England and Wales the legal definition of a cottage is a small house or habitation without land. However, originally under an Elizabethan statute, the cottage had to be built with at least 4 acres (0.02 km2; 0.01 sq mi) of land. Traditionally the owner of the cottage and small holding would be known as a cottager. In the Domesday Book they were referred to as Coterelli. Welsh a cottage is known as bwthyn and its inhabitant preswlydd. In Scotland and parts of Norther England the equivalent to cottager would be the crofter and the term for the building and its land would be croft.Over the years various Acts of Parliament removed the right of the cottager to hold land. According to John and Barbara Hammond in their book The Village Labourer, before the Enclosures Act the cottager was a farm labourer with land, and after the Enclosures Act the cottager was a farm labourer without land.
Modern usage in Britain and Ireland
In popular modern culture the term cottage is used in a more general and romantic context and can date from any era but the term is usually applied to pre-modern dwellings. Older, pre-Victorian cottages tend to have restricted height, and often have construction timber exposed, sometimes intruding into the living space. Modern renovations of such dwellings often seek to re-expose timber purlins, rafters, posts etc. which have been covered, in an attempt to establish perceived historical authenticity.Older cottages are typically modest, often semi-detached or terraced, with only four basic rooms ("two up, two down"), although subsequent modifications can create more spacious accommodation. A labourer's or fisherman's one-roomed house, often attached to a larger property, is a particular type of cottage and is called a penty. The term cottage has also been used for a larger house that is practical rather than pretentious: see Chawton Cottage.Irish cottages  were historically the homes of farm workers and labourers, but in recent years the term has assumed a romantic connotation especially when referring to cottages with thatched roofs (Irish: teach ceann tuí). These thatched cottages were once to be seen all over Ireland, but most have become dilapidated due to newer and modern developments. However, there has been a recent revival of restoring these old cottages, with people wanting a more traditional home. Today, thatched cottages are now mostly built for the tourist industry and many can be rented out as accommodation.Outside Britain and IrelandAlthough the Oxford English Dictionary states that the term cottage is used in North America to represent "a summer residence (often on a large and sumptuous scale) at a watering-place or a health or pleasure resort," most Americans expect a cottage, particularly a summer cottage, to be a relatively small, possibly unfinished house. Various editions of the quintessentially American Webster's Dictionary define it as "a small house; any modest country or suburban dwelling," (fifth edition) with  cottage in courtallam the eleventh edition describing even a vacation cottage as "a usu. small house for vacation use."In North America, most buildings known as cottages are used for weekend or summer getaways by city dwellers. Cottage owners often rent their properties to tourists as a source of revenue. In Saint John, U.S. Virgin Islands, most cottages are vacation rentals used for weekend or summer getaways. In Michigan, a cottage normally means a summer residence farther north near or on a lake. An example of a colonial era cottage in North America is a small fieldstone house called Boelson Cottage in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia—one of the oldest extant houses within the city (c.1678–84).In the jargon of English-speaking Quebec's real-estate industry, a cottage is any two-storey house, as opposed to a bungalow. However, "cottages" in Eastern Canada are generally located next to lakes, rivers, or the ocean in forested areas. They are used as a place to spend holidays with friends and family; common activities including swimming, canoeing, waterskiing, fishing, hiking, and sailing. There are also many well-known summer colonies. Cottage living is one of the most popular tourist draws in Ontario, Canada, parts of which have come to be known as cottage country. This term typically refers to the north and soutshor  of Georgian Bay, Ontario; Muskoka, Ontario; Haliburton, Ontario; and the Kawartha Lakes, Ontario; but has also been used to describe several other Canadian regions. The practice of renting cottages has become widespread in these regions, especially with rising property taxes for waterfront property. What Eastern Canadians refer to as "cottages" (seasonal-use dwellings), are generally referred to as "cabins" in most of North America. This is most notable in the Midwest and Western United States, and Western Canada. In much of Northern Ontario, New England, and upstate New York, a summer house near a body of water is known as a camp. In the 1960s and 1970s, the A-Frame house became a popular cottage style in North America. In the 1920s and 30s many gas stations were built in the style of Old World cottages. Comprising about a third of the stations built in the United States in those years, cottage-patterned facilities evoked a picturesque homeyness and were easier to gain approval for than the more stylized or attention-grabbing designs also commonly used at the dawn of the automobile era.Nordic countries Statistics Finland defines a cottage (Finnish: mökki, Finland Swedish: stuga or villa) as "a residential building that is used as a holiday or free-time dwelling and is permanently constructed or erected on its site". Finnish cottages are traditionally built of logs but other wood constructions have become common. They are usually situated close to water and almost all have a saunThere are 474,277 cottages in Finland (2005), a country with 187,888 lakes and 179,584 islands, including rental holiday cottages owned by hospitality companies but excluding holiday villages and buildings on garden allotments. Reports have 4,172 new cottages built in 2005. Most cottages are situated in the municipalities of Kuusamo (6,196 cottages on January 1, 2006), Kuopio (5,194), (Tammisaari – 5,053), Mikkeli (4,649), and Mäntyharju (4,630).Swedish cottage. The formal Swedish term for cottages is fritidshus (vacation house) or stuga, of which there are 680.000 in Sweden (2007). According to Statistics Sweden, about 50% of the Swedish population has access to a vacation house. In everyday talk, Swedes refer to their cottages as (the country house) or stugan (the cottage). Most vacation houses in Sweden are to be found along the coasts and around the major cities. Prices vary a lot depending on location; a modern seaside house near Stockholm may cost 100 times as much as a simple cottage in the inner regions of northern Sweden.Until the end of World War II, only a small wealthy Swedish elite could afford vacation houses—often both a large seaside house and a hunting cabin  up north. During the rapid urbanisation in the 1950s and 1960s, many families were able to retain their old farmhouses, village cottages and fisherman cabins and convert them into vacation houses. In addition, economic growth made it possible even for low income-families to buy small lots in the countryside where they could erect simple houses. Former vacation houses near the large cities have gradually been converted into permanent homes as a result of urban sprawl.

Winter Getaways near Toronto: Within One Hour and a Half Away
The holidays have officially ended and we are now faced with at least three months of winter. Many people deal with the colder temps by escaping down south, but for those of us who can’t vacation to warmer climates for whatever reason, there are ways to make the best of this frosty weather. Planning a mini vacay to Ontario resorts close to Toronto will lift your spirits and help break up the long, cold season. Here are three winter getaways near Toronto that are within one hour and a half’s drive.

The Briars Hotel, Jacksons Point
If you’re looking for winter getaways near Toronto, you’ll have to drive only an hour north of the city to enjoy a winter weekend escape to The Briars Hotel in Jacksons Point. You can choose a room at the 178-year-old inn or in one of the quaint cottages near the lakeshore. Rooms feature fridges, flat screen TVs with cable, telephones, and coffee makers while some rooms have in-suite fireplaces, and balconies with views of shimmering Lake Simcoe. If you’re looking to amp up your stay, the Briars Spa Experience includes one queen room, meal plan with breakfast and dinner, use of amenities and a $75 credit for the hotel’s spa. Just because you’re on vacay, you can still get your work-out in at the fitness centre, and indoor pool or enjoy some billiards in the games room. Bring your current read to nestle in the library in The Manor House, which has been designated an Ontario Heritage building. If colder temperatures don’t intimidate you, hike or snowshoe along wooded trails on the historic property or get some cardio in on the groomed cross-country ski trails. Satisfy your appetite at the hotel’s first class restaurant with tempting menu items such as Maple Pear and Kale Salad and Duck Confit. If you visit midweek, you’ll receive free ski equipment rentals. Relive childhood fun by whirling down “The Mount” hill in one of the resort’s toboggans.
Oban Inn, Niagara-on-the-Lake, is a great option when considering winter getaways near Toronto, photo courtesy Oban Inn
Oban Inn, Niagara-on-the-Lake
Niagara-on-the-Lake is gorgeous in the summer, but it’s also a lovely getaway from Toronto in winter. If you are seeking the gold standard, you’ll want to stay at the historic Oban Inn, a luxury 4 Diamond boutique hotel. This 194-year-old inn is conveniently located 2 blocks from Queen Street, home to restaurants, shops and theatres. Some of the luxury accommodations in rooms include gleaming wood floors, in-suite fireplaces, Wi-Fi, Flat Screen TVs, in-room safes, as well as irons and ironing boards. You’ll feel like royalty in complimentary luxury cotton robes while sipping bottled spring water. You can also enjoy the view of Lake Ontario from the vantage point of your room. Some rooms are pet-friendly in case you want to bring your fur baby on your romantic getaway. Bookworms will want to reserve the Oban Suite with a library sitting area and floor-to-ceiling shelves stocked with books – the suite also boasts a fireplace, antique light fixtures, oil paintings and an old-fashioned soaker tub. The Oban Inn is famous for its first class dining. Some of the items on its fall/winter menu to tease your taste buds include Autumn Salad with mixed greens, apples, pomegranate and pumpkin seeds; Wagyu Beef Burger and Red Curry Cod. A hearty breakfast buffet will encourage you to throw off the duvet cover on your comfortable bed. Don’t forget to visit the inn’s OSpa for a hot rock massage. If you visit mid-January, you’ll get to taste the latest vintages at the Niagara Ice Wine Festival, which has vendor booths on Queen Street.
The Millcroft Inn and Spa, Caledon, photo courtesy The Millcroft Inn and Spa
Millcroft Inn, Caledon
Overlooking a soothing waterfall and millpond, the Millcroft Inn in Caledon is an ideal escape from Toronto since it’s a mere one hour away. Choose a charming Main Inn or Manor House room with antique furnishings, renovated bathrooms and queen or king beds. Couples seeking more privacy can reserve a two-storey chalet-style Croft room with wood-burning fireplace, mini-fridge, patio and outdoor hot tub. One of the unique attractions at Millcroft Inn are the hot and cold outdoor pools. Alternate between the 40°C hot spring pool and the 7°C plunge pool to reap the benefits of hydrotherapy including increased circulation and energy, reduced muscle tension and arthritic pain and detoxification. Less courageous souls can enjoy a swim in the outdoor heated swimming pool or the indoor pool. No excuse for slacking off while on vacation as the inn’s fitness facility features treadmills, exercise bikes and free weights. Afterwards, unwind in the Games Room with a game of ping pong, pool or darts. If you’d rather venture outside, strap on complimentary snowshoes to follow the trails along the rolling Caledon Hills; for more hardy exercise, hike at the Instagram-ready Mono Cliffs Provincial Park, 30 minutes north.
Have you visited these winter getaways near Toronto? Do you have any other winter weekend escapes you would like to share? Please let me know about them in the comment section.
