as I hoped/suspected, the vibes in Stormqueen are a lot less rancid than in darkover landfall

which is something, considering that a repeated theme is that characters in it are involved against their will in a eugenic breeding program. But at least they're allowed to resent it, and resent their ancestors who started it, and the one brief conversation around abortion that happened doesn't treat the woman who's used it as insane and spoiled and selfish for wanting control over her body.
