2024 NFL Storylines
Now that rosters have trimmed down to 53, for the most part, it's time to finally look ahead to the NFL season which begins Thursday September 5th. We all know that sports brings about drama that keeps us glued to the tv each and every weekend of the season, this NFL season won't be any different. With that in mind, I will give you my storylines to watch this season.
1. Super Bowl or Bust - These are teams that I feel realistically have pressure to get it done this season:
Baltimore Ravens - They have the reigning MVP, a top 5 defense that returns mostly everyone and added Derrick Henry over the offseason. They made the AFC title game last year but came up small, especially offensively, it's safe to ask can they get it done? Lamar has 2 MVPs and 2 playoff wins, enough said.
Kansas City Chiefs - They are going for a three-peat and with that rarified air, as they would be the first to complete the feat. It doesn't hurt that they have the best QB in the league, they also added Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown to a WR core that hasn't even been all that dynamic the past couple of seasons.
San Francisco 49ers - The offseason saga with Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk's contract highlights the fact that they have some serious decisions coming up very soon. They have Deebo Samuel and Brock Purdy, who will be looking for new deals next offseason, they also lost in the Super Bowl last season. Could this be a last stand for this group?
Philadelphia Eagles - This team was just in the Super Bowl 2 years ago but took a step back last season. They have locked up their WRs and have taken steps to fix their secondary which was a major problem last season. They replaced both coordinators last season who were held accountable for the slide in performance. Nick Sirianni would technically be the next to go if this season doesn't pan out.
2. Young QBs thrust into the spotlight - Looking around the league, we are seeing that a good number of teams are pinning the direction of their season on the success or failure of unproven QBs.
Caleb Williams (Bears), Jayden Daniels (Commanders) and Bo Nix (Broncos) will be starting from week 1. JJ McCarthy seemingly was on pace to possibly be the starter with the Vikings, before he went down with a season ending knee injury. Drake Maye could very well take over the starting job at some point this season from Jacoby Brissett for the Patriots.
We also have guys in CJ Stroud (Texans), Bryce Young (Panthers), Jordan Love (Packers), Will Levis (Titans), Anthony Richardson (Colts) who are entering the season with varying experience from this past season but are still developing in their second season as starters.
We are looking at 1/3 of the league with young guys at the most important position on the field, how many of them could take their team to the playoffs this season?
3. Who makes the quick turnaround - In 19 of the last 21 years at least one team has gone from finishing last in the division the season before to division champs the following season. With that in mind, who is most likely to pull off the feat this year.
Cincinnati Bengals (AFC North) went 9-8 last year in a season where Burrow missed time and dealt with an injured wrist, if Burrow stays healthy this season they could absolutely pull it off.
Tennessee Titans (AFC South) went 6-11 last season but have done a great job in improving the roster this offseason, if Will Levis continues to improve then they could be the team that challenges the Texans this year for the AFC South crown.
Chicago Bears (NFC North) were a 7-10 team last season after a good finish to the season, they seemingly have their guy in Caleb Williams to run what they believe will be an improved offense. The defense has some pieces as well but not completely sold on coach Eberflus.
The other teams that finished last in their divisions were the New England Patriots (AFC East), LA Chargers (AFC West), Washington Commanders (NFC East), Arizona Cardinals (NFC West) and Carolina Panthers (NFC South).
With every season there are so many storylines that will play out so these are just 3 for you to monitor over the course of the 2024-2025 season. We are just days away from the season starting so strap in and get to the edge of your seat, the fun is about to start.
Make sure to give me a follow and check out my other content on my blog page. You can also follow me over @passionandprecision as well with my friend/co-host @jorissportsstories who you can also follow for her great content as well.

Texans Defense and Stroud bypass the Bears 19-13 on Sunday Night Football

Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud completed 22 of his 35 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown on Sunday Night Football, leading the Texans past the Chicago Bears 19-13.
The Texans' offense took control for most of the first half. Stroud connected to Texans' wide receiver Nico Collins on a 22-yard touchdown, giving the Texans a 10-3 lead before extending it to 13-3.
Chicago Bears were able to get one drive going in the second half, which resulted in a 2-yard touchdown run by Bears bruising back Khail Herbet, bringing the score to 13-10.
Both teams scored only a couple of field goals in the second half. But the Texans defense came up with back-to-back interceptions in the 3rd quarter,
Houston's defense recorded 7 sacks and 2 interceptions, held the Bears' offense to a whopping 13 points, and held starting running back D'andre Swift to 18 yards.
Both Texan's defensive ends, Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, both had a sack and a half.
D'Andrea Swift signed with the Bears during the offseason during free agency.  Swift hasn't gotten off to the best start for the Chicago offense, rushing 18 yards on 14 carries tonight.
Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has become more comfortable with the offense. This time, he completed 23 of his 37 passes for 174 yards but threw 2 interceptions.
Chicago was without their star wide receiver Keenan Allen, due to a heel injury.
Texans running back Joe Mixon was injured in the third quarter on a hip drop tackle, a form of tickling that the NFL banned during the offseason. No penalty was called, and Mixon was able to return to the game after a few drives.
The Texans played great football on both sides of the field, and Houston is becoming more exciting to watch each week.
If the Bears want Caleb Williams to succeed at the NFL level, they must address their offensive line. They now lead the league in sacks allowed, with 9 on the year.
The Texans will fly to the Midwest to take on the hot-starting Minnesota Vikings, while the Bears will fly to Indianapolis to take on the 0-2 Indianapolis Colts.

C.J. Stroud happy after win, but also ready to improve some more
C.J. Stroud was happy after Sunday’s road victory over the Colts, but he was also eager to fix some things for the future. The Texans triumphed, 29-27, at Indianapolis, and Stroud completed 24-of-32 passes for 234 yards with a pair of touchdown passes. Both those scoring strikes went to Stefon Diggs, and Stroud completed the day with a passer rating of 115.9. It was the second victory for Stroud…

Divisioinal Weekend Rundown
Tumblr media
Divisional round: Jan. 20 and 21
NFC
(7) Green Bay Packers at (1) San Francisco 49ers
Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET on FOX
Quite the surprise in Wild Card Weekend with Green Bay just demolishing the Dallas Cowboys and moving on to San Francisco. Jordan Love went 16 for 21 for 272 yards and 3 TDs in his playoff debut AND has thrown 21 TD’s and 1 INT in his last 9 games. Safe to say he is playing at a high level. San Francisco is coming off a bye week and gets their taste of playoff action for the first time this season. It’s no secret the 49ers have a tremendous offense. Christian McCaffrey should be MVP in my opinion but the 49ers are a sneaky good team that on the surface it looks like the offense runs through CMC, but it doesn’t. it’s blocking, route running and scheme. Brock Purdy can sling it and with a ‘Swiss army knife’ in Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk on the outside there are plenty of options for Purdy to distribute to. Oh, and George Kittle helps too. But the key for the Packers is Aaron Jones. Jones has rushed for more than 110 yards in each of the past four games. He ran for 118 yards and 3 TD’s against the Cowboys. Jones has rushed for more than 100 yards every time he’s faced the Cowboys in his career but he’s never rushed for 100 yards in six previous meetings against San Francisco. In the 2021 Divisional Playoff loss to the 49ers he had 9 catches for 129 yards and 12 carries for 41 yards. I think San Francisco wins but not by the -9.5 point spread Vegas is predicting. Packers are hot but they lose a heart breaker.
(4) Tampa Bay Buccaneers at (3) Detroit Lions
Sunday, 3 p.m. ET on NBC
Who would’ve thought Detroit, who hasn’t won a playoff game in 32 years would be hosting TWO playoff games in a season. What a wild ride it has been for the motor city this season. Jared Goff got his revenge against the LA Rams and is moving on to face the Baker Mayfield led Buccaneers. Lions DB CJ Gardner-Johnson is talking about how if Tampa had a better QB they’d be better. So bulletin board material before the biggest game in recent Lions history. No big deal. The Bucs took down a flawed Eagles team with blitzing the hell out of them. No AJ Brown, Jalen Hurts was hurt and ineffective, and there was no defensive help which led to this solid Bucs team advancing. Detroit is riding high and rightfully so, Detroit has two home games in the same playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Detroit hasn’t won 2 playoff games in a season since winning the 1957 NFL title! Be energetic, be excited, BUT this Buccaneer team is NOT to be overlooked. The defense is solid, Baker Mayfield is having a good season and is distributing the ball to his playmakers. Tampa isn’t flashy but they don’t have to be. The atmosphere in Detroit will be electric and I think Detroit gets the win but Tampa keeps it close.
AFC
(4) Houston Texans at (1) Baltimore Ravens
Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN/ABC/ESPN+
For some reason I feel that the rest vs. rust debate has to apply to the Ravens but not the 49ers, and I don’t really know why. Baltimore rested key guys against the Steelers the final week of the regular season and had a bye week. Guys got rest and more time to get healthy, but I can’t shake the feeling the Ravens will take a drive or two to shake the rust off. These teams meet for the second time this season, they played week 1 where Jackson threw an early INT, each QB had a fumble, Stroud took 5 sacks and Jackson took 4 sacks. It was a sloppy loss for Stroud but it’s safe to say each team rebounded nicely. Houston took it to Cleveland scoring at will on the best scoring defense in football. So why not try it with 6th ranked scoring defense in Baltimore. It’ll be 28 degrees in Baltimore so we’ll see how Houston handles the cold. CJ Stroud is exciting but Lamar Jackson is gunning for his 2nd MVP which he would have earned for sure. Baltimore hasn't hosted an AFC title game since January of 1971, when the Colts beat the Oakland Raiders. The Texans have never made it that far. They are 0-4 in the divisional round, including a loss to Baltimore in January of 2012. The Houston Oilers played in the AFC championship game, but their last appearance was 44 years ago. I think Houston will put up a good fight and I want the Cinderella story to continue in the worst way but I think Baltimore escapes this game with a win.
(3) Kansas City Chiefs at (2) Buffalo Bills
Sunday, 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS
This is it. This is the measuring stick. THIS IS THE GAME! This is to prove to everyone you are for real Buffalo. The playoff losses to KC have always been IN Kansas City. But now you get Patrick Mahomes at home. You get him playing his first road playoff game ever. I cannot overstate how immensely huge this game is for Josh Allen and Sean McDermott. Sean McDermott needs this win to show he can coach in the big moments. He needs to show he can manage a game from beginning to end. He needs to show he can close. Josh Allen needs to show he can outduel a 2-time Super Bowl winner. Period. The end. That’s it. Win, just win. I wouldn’t say this is the biggest game in franchise history, but this will be a franchise defining one. This regime needs to win to justify the culture, and the process. It’s more pressure on them but you put this pressure on yourself when you have the season you have. As far as this game goes, injuries will be the key. Buffalo needs to get some key guys back especially on defense. Rasul Douglas needs to play and so does Taron Johnson for the secondary to have some confidence in covering Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice. Isiah Pacheco didn’t play in the first meeting of these teams this season and the Bills need to clamp down on the run to keep Mahomes in long down and distances. The Chiefs are converting 52% of red-zone trips into touchdowns this season, which is in the bottom half of the league. Against Miami, the Chiefs went 2 for 6 and settled for four field goals. Keep everything in front of you. Stop the run. Force Mahomes into long down and distances and the Bills win. I think the Bills win but it’ll be so much closer than I want it to be. This is also a game I will be in attendance for so I’m sure my wife will enjoy my emotional mood swings for 3 hours.

[ad_1] Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud didn't beat the Colts in Week Two of the regular season, but he showed the first glimpses of what was to come in his rookie season by throwing for 384 yards and a touchdown in a 31-20 loss.Stroud and the Texans would get their first win of the year the next week and the big days would keep coming along with enough wins to put the Texans on the brink of the playoffs heading into their return engagement with the Colts on Saturday night. Stroud opened that contest with a 75-yard touchdown to Nico Collins and went 20-of-26 for 264 yards and two touchdowns to lead Houston to a 23-19 win that will extend their season at least one more week.Tight end Brevin Jordan said Stroud is a big reason why the team is going to the playoffs because he "has an aura about him that's special" and head coach DeMeco Ryans said that aura reveals itself in crucial moments."C.J. doesn’t surprise me," Ryans said, via DJ Bien-Amie of ESPN.com. "We talked about it earlier in the week with C.J. being special in these big-time moments when you need it most, to step up and make plays. He's done it time after time throughout the entire year. It's not surprising. That's who he is. He's one of the best passers in this league. And he shows it consistently, game in and game out."The Texans don't know who or where they'll be playing next week, but they'll feel good about their chances in any venue because Stroud will be under center. Fantasy football QB rankings Week 8: Who will start, top sleepers at quarterback
Tumblr media
With no crew on the bye, 32 signal-callers return to our Week 8 fantasy QB rankings. Whereas this may occasionally look like an optimistic factor in concept, extra choices can complicate our start-up choices. Worry not; as a result, we're right here to help you perceive which quarterbacks have one of the best probabilities of persistently leading scoring drives, raising your fantasy soccer crew's probabilities of nabbing a dunk this coming week. Exterior of Gardner Minshew's 305-yard, four-TD effort towards Browns protection that entered Week 7 as essentially the most environment-friendly cease unit, Week 7 performed true to kind. The standard juggernaut (Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen) lived up to the hype, whereas a number of lower-tier QBs (Russell Wilson, Tyson Bagant, Brian Hoyer) had quite underwhelming fantasy days. How will all of it shake out in week 8? Extra: Watch NFL RedZone Stay with Sling (50% off first month)
Which QB is bye in Week 8?
Week 8 Commonplace Rankings: RBs, WRs, TEs and D/STs kick That being said, we nonetheless have a number of banded-up QBs to watch all through the week, so a number of fantasy homeowners will nonetheless be on the lookout for viable alternative choices. Week 8 PPR Rankings: RBs, WRs, TEs and D/STs kick
Who's one of the best fantasy QBs in Week 8?
Patrick Mahomes (@ Broncos Week 8) goals to keep up his good 12-0 file towards Denver, seeking to construct on his 300-yard, one-TD effort within the Chiefs' Week 6 win over the Broncos. Justin Herbert (vs. Bears) is licking his chops this week, going through a Bears protection that entered Week 7 permitting the fifth-most fantasy factors per recreation (FPPG) to QBs. Even when the Brian Hoare-led Raiders decelerate, search for Herbert and firm to seek out success against the Bears on Sunday night. Lamar Jackson (@Cardinals) noticed a slight improvement in his Week 8 rankings, drawing a Cardinals protection that entered Week 7 because it was the least environment-friendly protection on a down-to-down foundation, with a league-worst 50.6 percent success fee. Count on Jackson to continue his sturdy play with one other dependable fantasy day. Jared Goff (vs. Raiders) and C.J. Stroud (@Panthers) additionally sit as top-10 performers in Week 8. Fantasy homeowners might look to bench Goff after a 38-6 blowout loss to Detroit; however, Raiders protection is precisely what Goff wants. Watch her regain her confidence. Stroud is getting higher each week, and since he is a rookie, we do not fairly know his fantasy ceiling.
Who's one of the best fantasy QB sleepers and waiver pickups in Week 8?
Jordan Love (vs. Vikings), Derek Carr (@Colts), and Kenny Pickett (vs. Jaguars) profile because of the crop of sleepers and waiver-wire pickups in this week's QB-friendly matchups. Whereas the Packers offense hasn't run as easily as they'd like, Love has crushed it from a fantasy standpoint. Inexperienced Bay's QB1 enters Week 7 ranked as Fantasy QB8 in factors per recreation (19.2 ppg), and he turned in one other two-TD day towards the Broncos. An inviting matchup towards Vikings protection that ranks beneath league common in dropback EPA provides Love loads of sleeper enchantment. The Saints hope their second-half offensive surge towards the Jaguars is an indication of issues to return, and if there's ever a week to roll out Carr, Week 8 is the time. The Colts enter Week 7 permitting the eighth-most fantasy factors per recreation to a QB, so there's cause to consider New Orleans' offense will function at an environment-friendly clip and prime 300 yards via the air for the third straight recreation. Pickett drew a Jaguars protection that allowed the second-most fantasy factors per recreation to a QB getting into Week 7, and with Deonte Johnson again wholesome, we may see his finest fantasy output of the season. In deep/superflex leagues, contemplate taking Desmond Ryder (@ Titans), Gardner Minshew (vs. Saints), and Baker Mayfield (@ Payments). The Raiders and Falcons aerial assault can exploit a vulnerable Titan move protection that is among the least environmentally friendly models towards the move in comparison with its dropback EPA. We do not anticipate Minshew to copy his elite Week 7 fantasy display; however, he did a commendable job filling in for the injured Anthony Richardson. Regardless of a tricky matchup for Mayfield towards an elite Payments defensive position, a probably unfavorable recreation script permits him to put up a good fantasy day for some rubbish time factors.
Who's the largest potential QB bust in Week 8?
Joe Burrow (@49ers), Geno Smith (vs. Browns), and Matthew Stafford (@Cowboys) all noticed vital drops in their Week 8 rankings, as they have been compelled to create drives towards the league's most full protection. Barore definitely appeared like a special QB, together with his calf getting higher by the week; however, we might counsel leaving him on your bench if the 49ers matchup. Smith did not do a lot in a positive matchup against the Cardinals in Week 7, and we anticipate a harder fantasy day against the Browns this week. We'll depart Stafford with bench duties in Week 8, as now we have no real interest in beginning him towards a well-rounded Cowboys cease unit on the highway.
What were the largest QB accidents in Week 8?
Earlier than Week 7, Justin Fields (finger), Jimmy Garoppolo (again), and Daniel Jones (neck) weren't wholesome enough for accidents to sideline them in Week 8. Backup Tyson Bagent (the Chargers) will probably make his second straight start in Week 8. Nonetheless, Garoppolo ( @Lions ) is leaning towards returning to Detroit on Monday night time. We'll see if Jones can log no less than one restricted session in observe this week, probably resulting in his return to the Jets. We anticipate Tannehill (ankle) to overlook Week 8, placing Will Levis in line for his first profession to begin. Concerning in-game accidents, Deshaun Watson left the primary half with a head injury. Watson didn't undergo harm and was cleared to return to the recreation motion; however, head coach Kevin Stefanski was determined to play PJ Walker in his place. As mentioned, we put Watson in our preliminary Week 8 rankings because we predict he'll return to the field this week. We'll be updating these QB rankings all through the week, so test again for the most recent participant actions and evaluations.
Fantasy QB Rankings Week 8: Who Will Begin, Sit at Quarterback
This rating is predicated on 4-point passing TD Scoring Rank participant 1 Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs @ Broncos Lamar Jackson, Ravens and Cardinals Jalen Hurts, Eagles and Commander 4 Josh Allen, Payments vs. Buccaneers Justin Herbert, Chargers vs. Bears 6 Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins vs. Patriots Jared Goff, Lions vs. Raiders 8 CJ Stroud, Texans @ Panthers 9 Kirk Cousins, Vikings @ Packers 10 Dak Prescott, Cowboys vs. Rams 11 Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars @ Steelers 12 Jordan Love, Packers vs. Vikings 13 Derek Carr, Saints @ Colts 14 Joe Burrow, Bengals @ 49ers 15 Brock Purdy, 49ers vs. Bengals 16: Kenny Pickett, Steelers vs. Jaguars 17 Matthew Stafford, Rams @ Cowboys 18 Geno Smith, Seahawks vs. Browns 19 Desmond Ryder, Falcons @ Titans 20 Sam Howell, Commander vs. Eagles 21 Russell Wilson, Broncos vs. Chiefs 22 Gardner Minshew, Colts vs. Saints 23. NFL Week 4
Tumblr media
Back to Back and we not talking Drake. AJ Brown came to play this weekend, making his appearance on this blog in consecutive weeks. Brown feasted on the Washington Commanders defensive backs all day long. Brown tore Emmanuel Forbes Jr ass up for a total of 9 catches 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. AJ Brown takes home the WOW (wideoutoftheweek) award for an Oscar worthy performance.
Tumblr media
Nico Collins would’ve taken home the WOW award had it not been for that bad ass man AJ Brown. And y’all know I tell no lies but prior to this weekend I had never heard of the young lad. I will say this though, CJ Stroud is going to have a bright future with this kid and Tank Davis. Collins is a bigger wideout who has great feet. He could not be touched on press and made some impressive catches. I won’t lie he makes the game look easy. Collins tore the Steelers up for a breakthrough performance with 9 catches 168 yards and 2 tubs.
Tumblr media
Puka Nacua is having a Cinderella rookie season. It’s truly amazing that he’s posting the type of numbers that veteran players are known for. With is 3rd 100 yard game of the year, Puka is making a statement that he’s here for the long haul. Against the Colts, Nacua had his usual dominate performance with 9 catches for 163 yards and 1 score. It appears Matthew Stafford has found someone to rely on after Van Jefferson has failed to fill that role and with All-Pro Cooper Kupp out due to injury.
Tumblr media
Brandon Aiyuk had a perfect game catching all 6 of his targets for 148 yards. Aiyuk didn’t score but a few of his catches put his team in position to get points. It’s crazy sometimes to me that defenses give up the same plays over and over. Aiyuk did all his damage in the slot running over routes making the Cardinals look foolish.
Tumblr media
DJ Moore is improving. My running joke is that Moore will give you the highlight play no question. But he’s also going to drop a few easy ones. He’s changing my opinion of him. Against one of the better secondary’s in the league, DJ played physical and made some big time catches against the Denver Broncos. Moore finished his afternoon with 8 catches for 131 yards for 1 score.
Tumblr media
Stefon Diggs knew he would have to have a spectacular day when his team played opposite and arguably against the best wideout in the game…Cheetah (Tyreek Hill). And ladies and gents I promise you Diggs stepped up to the plate in a major way. With his team up 7 points, Diggs caught a back shoulder pass, broke tackles of two defenders, and raced up the sideline for a 56-yard touchdown. Diggs also had an hat trick of touchdowns through his 6 catches for 120 yards.
Tumblr media
Chris Godwin is back! Although players can come back from ACL injuries within a year. It usually takes two years to get back to the player you were prior to the injury. Not that Godwin was a speedster to begin with, but it appears his pre-injury explosiveness is back. Against the New Orleans Saints Godwin caught 8 passes for 114 yards but failed to reach the end zone.
Sorry it took a little while for this post. Sometimes I lose my creativity and this blog is a reflection of my creativity with writing as a sports performance coach. Wideouts keep getting money and Stay ballin!
