29.04.2025—yep, so life update—I’m moving back home to Adelaide!!! I really miss my family and need better mental health support then here in the ACT. I’ll definitely miss my network of friends in Canberra, but I’m looking forward to being in Adelaide again. at this stage, I am planning on completing my PhD virtually/online.

Pushing through, literature review and proposal are due on the 24th of April, so gotta finish this in 4 days ( more like three because I have to work some of the time 😬).

The aspect of the Seven Adelaide feels the most connection with is the Stranger. Growing up a lonely child with few friends, a mother who does not emotionally connect with her, and having greendreams which everyone around her refuses to acknowledge, Adelaide certainly felt othered. So when she would attend the sept with her mother and hear about an aspect of the Seven that people often avoid, something about that called to her. With child logic, she thought that perhaps the Stranger was lonely too and resolved to pray to them so that they might be friends to each other. As she grew older, the more death she saw, the more she looked to the stranger in her times of sadness for comfort. The Stranger wasn’t to be feared, but a friend to guide people away from the suffering of mortal life.

While grief and mourning are consistent themes for her, she’s not afraid of mortality. Death was just as much an aspect of her life as spring. Sweetgrove’s godswood is located next to their burial grounds. Douglas would often bring Adelaide there to visit memorials to past family members and show where they would be buried as well. The face of the Stranger in the sept the Maluses attend is modeled after one of her ancestors. Death is an opportunity to rest, then to be reborn into nature. There’s a peace in that for her. The face of the Stranger is not so strange to her.

There was a meme I saw (the one where someone is stacking down domino’s from smallest to largest (or vice versa)) and it was of Far Cry, and had Takkar (doing something unquestionably and unnecessarily ridiculous) as the smallest domino and the largest domino as Dani (also doing something unquestionably and unnecessarily ridiculous) and it basically joked “all far cry protagonists are descendants of Takkar”. And I find it hilarious, because despite how unlikely it is, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was true.

All the protagonist have (at least one) good qualities, enough to do something for the right reason, while being capable of so much violence, and at the same time do something unquestionably risky and ridiculous that just makes me go ��yep, there’s Takkar’s genes kicking in.”

What about you? Do you think there’s some “secret connection” between the protags and Takkar?

I believe the only character from Primal who’s canonically connected to another character from the Far Cry franchise is Urki, the ancestor of Hurk, and by extension of Adelaide and/or Hurk Sr. and Sharky.

I don’t know if there are other connections between the Far Cry protagonists or if some are secretly related (in the minds of the writers), but according to a study from 2004, mathematically, the last common ancestor of all living humans may have lived only a few thousand years ago! Primal takes place in 10,000 BC, approximately 12,000 years ago, so they might actually all descend from Takkar!

And in a sense, I guess we could also say that all Far Cry protagonists are descendants of Jack Carver :)
