02.12.2023 (Surat Thani My Place Hotel)

So, aufgestanden, etwas gegessen, den Roller weggebracht und auf meinen Bus gewartet. Nach einer etwa 3-stündigen Fahrt kam ich schließlich in Krabi an. Dort ging ich in ein Einkaufszentrum und holte mir eine neue Micro SD-Karte. Anschließend ließ ich mich zum Busbahnhof fahren, ging zum Schalter und sagte, dass ich gerne nach Surat Thani fahren würde. Der Ticketverkäufer zückte daraufhin sein Handy, telefonierte und sagte mir dann, wie viel es kostet. Ich bezahlte ihn, und er sagte hastig: "Komm mit."

Ich sollte bei einem anderen Mitarbeiter auf den Roller steigen. Dieser fuhr mich dann 2 Kilometer weit weg, wo ein Minivan wartete. Offenbar hatte der Ticketverkäufer den Fahrer angerufen und gesagt, dass er warten solle – so etwas würde es in Deutschland nicht geben. Die Fahrt war regnerisch und ermüdend.

Ich kam dann am Abend in Surat Thani an und bezog mein Hotelzimmer. Endlich wieder eine Klimaanlage. Dann ging ich noch auf den Markt, machte etwas Sport, war noch am Laptop und dann, gute Nacht.

Pentagon rejects sale of F-35 to Thailand and offers F-16 and F-15 fighters

The Pentagon "unofficially" rejected Thailand's offer to buy F-35 Lightning II stealth jets and instead put the F-16 Block 70 and F-15 Eagle fighters on the table, the Thai press reported citing sources. Gripen fighters are also being evaluated.

A source from the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) told the Bangkok Post that the Pentagon's message was conveyed by the U.S. ambassador, Robert F Gordec, when he visited the head of the RTAF, ACM Alongkorn Wannarot, at the aeronautics headquarters in Don Mueang two weeks ago.

The ambassador said the U.S. State Department is of the opinion that the RTAF may not yet be ready in terms of infrastructure facilities for F-35, especially air base security, airfields, maintenance, pilots and support personnel, the source said.

It would take a lot of time and a large budget to be fully ready, he said, adding that Washington offered to sell the F-15 and F-16 to Thailand.

The U.S. will reconsider the offer of the F-35 when the RTAF is ready, “probably in the next five to ten years,” the source said.

The American side should give an official answer in July. When the request is officially refused, the RTAF would have to return 369.1 million baht (about US$ 10.5 million), a 5% advance approved by the House of Representatives, to the state.

RTAF is still considering the purchase of another fleet of Gripen fighters from the Swedish Saab, the source said. The air force previously purchased a squadron of 12 Gripen fighters, based in wing 7 in Surat Thani. He lost one of the Gripen jets in an accident.
