If Doriane Pin hadn't had a race this week already, could she have stepped in to replace Michelle Gatting? Or would she not have been eligible given she had to drop out of Le Mans last year herself due to injury, leaving her last endurance race being in 2023. Marta could've also been a possibility, especially having to drop out of Road to LM due to her copilot's injury, but I don't know what her classification would be. Iron Dames have a decent roster, but they have lost some members, such as the Al Qubaisi sisters, who could help develop their teams further instead of relying on older bronze drivers - not that bronze is bad, just in order to be more competitive and make their team a bigger name to help their aims.
Hi! So I do think technically Doriane could've replaced her. As far as I'm able to read the rules she conforms to them.
She took part in 2023, in the LMP2 class but it does not specify a need for a specific class here.
she did two races in 2024 and the complete 2023 season. Idk if this means a full season or select races but she qualifies anyway cuz of the 2023 season.
She's done (a) race(s) in both GTE and GT3.
And these she would be able to fulfill. So in all technicality she would have been allowed to participate as far as I can see. Though even if she was available I think there'd have been a big chance Iron Dames still would have opted for Bovy.
While I think Pin is a quicker driver, and has way more room to grow. She does not have any relevant experience in the car, which Sarah does considering she still competes in both ELMS and IMSA in the Porsche this season + she had all of last season in WEC and at Le Mans.
I do agree with your point at their lack of drivers and relying on older bronzes. Now, there's obviously difficulty with that due to a number of reasons outside of their control. For example, young drivers usually go the single seater path at first and then also combine that with the fact that there's just a general lack of female drivers. It makes the pool small.
They have initiatives now, including taking on several karters, which will definitely help them in the long run. They have a few younger silvers, Garcia, Gaillard and obviously Pin but especially someone like Gaillard is not near the level to compete in WEC yet imo. But i do hope that both Garcia and Gaillard can maybe develop into drivers able to compete in their main line-ups.
Then comes the case of Pin, which is just very sad to me in all honesty. She was on her way up to becoming an incredible sportscar talent just like Wadoux but her move to single seaters has essentially stalled her career. And I do get the move in the end but it's sad to see especially as someone with a huge love for sportscar racing.
As for the Al Qubaisi sisters I do think it'd have been interesting to see what they could've done as fully fledged Iron Dames. But they have entered the ACO ladder.. so maybe in the future.
Coming back to Garcia, I don't believe she'd have been eligible to replace Gatting if u compare her to the rules stated above. but... I would like to see her make her Le Mans debut somewhere in the future maybe.

I want to share with you all, an exceptional comic I played a small role in called "Little Moons' â a new release from the incredibly talented Indigenous Canadian (Anishinaabeg/Ojibwe) author, Jennifer Storm @jenstorm from Canadian publisher, Portage and Main. LMs focuses on a young Indigenous woman named Reanna who is dealing with the aftermath of her sister Chelsea's disappearance and the impact it leaves on her family, who in turn, are also reeling heavily from such an impactful loss.
A very powerful and introspective book about the struggles Indigenous families face and a deeper observation into a reality that is all too common for many First Nations families in Canada. Jennifer's amazing story is accentuated by the incredible illustrative prowess of, Ryan Howe @scribblinz and is punctuated by the beautiful colour work of Indigenous colourist, Alice RL @alicerl.art. I also played a small role in the development of the book as the letterer! However, I would be entirely remiss if I didn't mention our incredibly supportive editor, Irene Velentzas.
Rarely, do I walk away from a project, feeling so fulfilled and proud to have had a hand in it. Regardless of my involvement, Little Moons is one of the best Canadian graphic novels to be released this year. A real earnest story, that reflects the realities many families face and troubled waters that can be difficult to navigate.
