There’s a little thing on TikTok about characters being Meisters or Weapons from Soul Eater- talking it over with my brother, we decided Vat’il would be a Demon Weapon & Tav’ilin would be a Witch :>

Bonus ramblings plus a Gortash under the cut

Vat’il doesn’t have a meister simply because his soul is so volatile, but both Gortash and Tav’ilin can briefly wield him (Gortash specifically is good at syncing his soul up and can usually maintain a stable connection for longer)

Tav’ilin is a witch- Raven themed! And actively helps Vat’il collect souls (he’s well on his way to becoming a kishin). Notably, he uses Soul Protect on the two of them to keep from attracting unwanted attention

Okay so it’s kind of hard to assign monsters to characters in a fantasy world with monsters (also some of them, like Astarion & Orin, already have things and I’m not sure how I feel about them being objectively the same) Buuuuut I’m still trying to- thoughts???

Hello! I know you said the emperor takes the form of Vat’il’s mom, how does he react when finding out the dream guardian is a mind flayer? Does he ever find out that the form the emperor was his mom? I love Vat’il and live for the angst of people having the dream guardian look like someone from their character’s past

He doesn’t take it well! Shsjjsjsjsjs

If not for the fact that The Emperor is the only thing keeping everyone from turning into a mindlfayer and dying (which its being honest about, I checked snsnsnsjjsjs) Vat’il would’ve killed it on the spot. (He certainly threatens to)

Their relationship never really recovers from that. :> (He stomps on the astral tadpole- which The Emperor offered more to his brother than him- he just slaps it out of Tav’ilin’s hands and steps on it)

As far as him finding out that The Emperor was masquerading as his mom, I’m not sure if he ever finds that out! He does ask The Emperor about who she was, but it doesn’t know- it’s just someone he’d trust/not want to hurt.

I’ve toyed around with him figuring out that it was his mom, but so far that’s really only for a Bad Timeline Vat’il (Sceleritas knows who she is and could connect the dots for Vat’il if pressed to do so)

19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?

Another thing that makes me giddy is that he’s a monk- and monks, after a certain level (10?) are immune to poison damage. That’s fun just because he handles a lot of poisons and what not- but what’s even better than that is that he can and has just walked through a cloud kill spell (he’s also a drow and thusly immune to sleep spells/potions- man is spooky if for no other reason than he shrugs things like that off)

13. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all? 

There’s definitely less in that direction (most of my focus is on pre-tadpole Vat) but I’ve got some things!

Namely, a good timeline Vat’il & Tav’ilin (his brother) end up living with Jaheira for a while. The Elf Song Tavern is destroyed (don’t know if that’s real but I’m saying it is) and Vat would sooner die than try to stay in Bhaal’s temple, so they end up with her, her kids, and Minsc :> (it’s fun- cue both shenanigans & domestic slice of life things)

Bad timeline Vat’il would hypothetically be the Big Bad for some group of heroes trying to stop him from razing the realm- haven’t poked a lot at that one mostly because he’s so sad in it :<

12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)? 

His face changes all the time- but mostly his expressions! In my head, the way he emotes changes (EX: Pre-tadpole Vat’il is a lot more reserved than post-tadpole Vat’il) so I really should just sit down and make a chart for it at some point

Bonus points cause writing him is also hard- I don’t quite have a grip on his vocalization yet so that’s difficult. Also bonus bonus points, cause he’s really different from me in a lot of ways, and sometimes I get caught up on the “No be niiiiiice :((((“ aspects

Vat’il has a lot of appreciation for art- mostly poetry and painting- and a particular fondness for lullabies. Tav’ilin (his brother) plays music for him a lot -both in general and when he’s having nightmares/his Urges are bad

▼ - childhood headcanon

His sister really wanted to be a wizard, so they used to sneak away from the farm to adventure and find scrolls and loot and damsels.

They actually did find some old, dusty, roughed up scroll once, and while Emeline couldn’t quite get the spell to work, it was still a major win as far as either of them were concerned.

☆ - happy headcanon

He pampers Us regardless of his moral alignment.

He plays fetch with it, often carries it if they’re in a rush (Us has a heavy limp since he lobotomized it), he’ll take it on walks and let it set the pace/lead the way, he stole one of Astarion’s pillows for it to sleep on, etc.
