Nestled amidst the lush greenery and coffee plantations of Karnataka, Chikmagalur is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. While the region is renowned for its aromatic coffee and scenic landscapes, one of its most captivating and lesser-known attractions is Z Point. This vantage spot offers breathtaking views, exhilarating treks, and a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
What Makes Z Point Special?
Located near Kemmanagundi, Z Point is a popular trekking destination that provides panoramic views of the Western Ghats. The trail to Z Point is an adventure in itself, taking trekkers through dense forests, gushing streams, and rugged terrains. The journey, while challenging, is equally rewarding, with the cool mountain breeze and the symphony of nature accompanying you every step of the way.
The Trek to Z Point
The trek to Z Point begins at Kemmanagundi, a quaint hill station in the Chikmagalur district. The trail is approximately 3-4 kilometers long and can be moderately challenging, making it suitable for both seasoned trekkers and enthusiastic beginners. The path winds through the Shanti Falls, a picturesque waterfall that offers a refreshing stop before the final ascent to Z Point.
As you ascend, the trail becomes steeper and more rugged. However, the stunning vistas of the surrounding hills and valleys provide ample motivation to keep going. The final stretch of the trek is a narrow ridge that requires careful navigation but rewards you with unparalleled views once you reach the top.

The ideal time to visit Z Point is during the early morning or late afternoon, when the sun is not too harsh, and the landscape is bathed in a golden hue. The best seasons to embark on this trek are post-monsoon and winter, from September to March. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the greenery is at its most vibrant, making the trek an unforgettable experience.

The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, home to diverse flora and fauna, is also worth a visit for wildlife enthusiasts.

According to ancient history, Demon Arunasura was committing atrocities on sages and petrifying the Devas due to the boon he had received from Lord Brahma that no two-legged or four-legged animals can kill him. Sage Jabali prayed to Goddess Adishakti to get rid of the Earth from the Demon.
Goddess Adishakti accepted his request and took the avatar of a beautiful woman and came in front of Arunasura. When the demon came near to woman, she told him who she really was and that she has come to free the world from his atrocities and disappeared to a rock structure. Getting to know the truth, the demon got enraged and cut the rock structure with his sword. Soon a swarm of bees emerged from the rock and stung the demon till his death.
Also to get rid of the drought in the area, Sage Jabali requested Kamdhenu, the divine Cow to help him but as Kamdhenu had gone to Varunaloka he asked her daughter Nandini to go with the Sage.
