Can Technology Change Lecturers?

I am a very lucky man, as I can sit down and try to think of technology that has changed the way lecturers teach in UK universities. Well, maybe not so lucky, but I can definitely say that there have been some interesting things that have happened to improve teaching and make learning more fun. For the past couple of years, lecturers have been very much used to just doing what they were taught by their professors. However, by being on the internet, lecturers can now go online and connect with students and also with online forums, where students can talk to other students about subjects they are interested in. It can also mean that lecture duration is longer, because the lecturers now can choose to give shorter lectures which will really stretch out the time. Also, there is no need for individual study sessions as there are extra groups that can get together to study on an equal footing. What does this mean for lecturers? Well, it means that they can spend more time giving lectures, or giving seminars which will be distributed across the world, and then students will be able to attend those and discuss topics they have found interesting. In this day and age, technology changes the way we live our lives and I for one feel very lucky to be living in such a world. If you think about it, would you like to live a life where lecturers just did what was written in a book, but the internet offers us the opportunity to do more and create new ways of teaching? Would you like to know more about your subject, where you can get more information from other people, if you can go back to school or just explore new opportunities? What would you like to see happen, where technology will be there for everyone to use, so that more jobs are created and our society can function better? We can all say that the world would be better off if more of us made big decisions by getting a different opinion or not taking a certain decision? If there was a new way of teaching the subject, if there was an online version of a certain course or class, would you be happy to learn in this new way? It's a very tough time to be lecturing in this day and age, especially for those lecturers who have found themselves with not only longer working hours, but also a lot more stress. However, it is also a good time to look at what happens when lecturers have access to the internet and learning via technology. It is not only lecturers who benefit from this because their students will find it easier to communicate with each other as well. And in terms of jobs and the economy, this could mean that many more jobs will be created, as employers will find the time to use the internet to search for and interview for the best employees. It is very important to look at the benefits of online lecturing and how it could change teaching quality. It can change the way lectures are delivered and can even improve the quality of research as well. Hopefully, lecturers will benefit from the changes in technology. So for those lecturers who have complained that they are not making any money anymore, I can say that they will probably be pleasantly surprised by the future.

In the near future, it is likely that many of our traditional educational institutions will continue to evolve, but with many more interactive technologies, so as to keep up with the changing needs of our students. Will technology change the way we teach? Will we still teach by taking notes using simple pen and paper, or will we teach by computers? There are many options available. Each time we use technology, it shifts the way we do things, both within and outside of the classroom. You can't expect all students to buy pre-printed textbooks and pay full price for the text, and then mail it back to the teacher's office. In fact, many professors send their students home with a computer with the book in it, and they print out the page or two that they need for class. The old school classroom method is not possible any more. As technology develops, it will shift the way we do things both inside and outside of the classroom. As a teacher, it will become a matter of evaluating what your teaching methods need to adapt to meet the technological advancements. It is important for teachers to understand how technology will impact teaching, and how they will teach students in the future. They give students a glimpse into the education system as well as how the education system works. They give students a reason to want to learn and are an integral part of the learning process. If computers replace the use of lecturers, why should we continue to devote our time and energy to them? Why can't we simply eliminate lecturers and allow students to learn in their own time? Computers have brought much new technology to the educational system but only in a limited manner and it seems to be adding one more problem to the one already there.
