Can Technology Change Waiters?
Tumblr media
What do you think of technology and waiters? Does it change the relationship between customer and waiter or waitress and carhop? How do the technologies in a restaurant affect the relationship between the two? Let's look at each. The first point is that as customer, you are only able to interact with the waiter or waitress when they have the ability to turn on the customers' plates, use chopsticks, talk to customers and the like. What happens when a customer calls over the phone and tells you their order? The second point is that when a carhop comes by, they can talk to customers and answer questions, they can help clean up the tables, serve drinks, clear tables and the like. So when a waiter or waitress turns off their device to answer the phone, the person they are talking to may not be using their device the way they used to. The third point is that the line workers can answer questions and help with washing up, cleaning the bar and other things. The line workers can hold the phone up to the screen and help the customer to look at the menu while they answer their question. If a customer answers their phone they do not have to hang up because there is an attendant standing next to them doing the same thing. There is the potential for a carhop to take the lead and answer their questions or even take the phone. This might sound strange to someone who is not in the service industry, but in the service industry customer satisfaction is very important. Customers who use the same service year after year remember the routines and know what to expect. When they go into a restaurant, the waiter or waitress does not have those memories, does not know what to expect and if the process fails they will leave unhappy. The problem is how the carhop responds. If the carhop is in an uncomfortable position to make the call they may not pick up the phone. Or if the carhop thinks they don't have to call them back, they may not call back at all. The same technology is used by carhops, but with the added flexibility for customer communication. A customer could tell the carhop about their needs in detail or just give the carhop an idea of the food and drink they want. That idea will allow the carhop to follow up with a handwritten list of ingredients to come up with a customized menu and serve their customers exactly how they want to be served. The bottom line is that technology has changed the customer. Customers know that, so, the service industry cannot rely on the same protocols from customer to customer. They need a different communication to ensure the customer is pleased with the experience. Technology can be used in the service industry to make the customer happy. The technology allows the customers to have greater control of the experience of sitting down with the waiter or waitress and asking for specific things. Technology is here to stay and will continue to change and enhance the services provided in restaurants. Customers, however, are often the ones that will decide if they are satisfied with the technology. They are the ones who want to make a connection with the waiter or waitress and work the magic that happens when they are in the right mind frame.
Will Technology Change Waiters?
Tumblr media
Will technology change the way waiters and bartenders work? As with most other facets of our society, technology is slowly creeping into the service industry. While some people wonder if this means the end of waiters, it's more likely that we'll see the evolution of waiters into more of a service specialist. Here are some ideas for how technology might affect the world of waiters and bartenders. First, most carhops and waiters are working with computers these days. That's because it's becoming more common to see us use computers while waiting for customers at the end of a dinner party. Think about a typical situation where you'd use your computer at a busy restaurant: someone orders food and all you have to do is look it up and print it out, or show them to their table and hand them the menu. What if that all changed in the future? Say you were running a high-volume restaurant, and instead of having a waitress, your computer would act as a waitress, taking orders from your table. This could potentially save you a lot of money, because waiters would be relegated to taking the place of a waitress. However, this system would make it difficult for waiters to operate at restaurants. If they were in a situation where they had to take orders and translate them into customer orders on the fly, they could become overworked. It could lead to poor service, and possibly even complaints from customers who felt their orders were not properly taken care of. What would happen if waiters began offering their services via the Internet, rather than taking orders over the phone? This would open up the door to any number of service changes, including more flexible hours and higher wages. There are some people who believe that the only role that waiters should have is taking orders. They argue that a server at a restaurant can fill orders by chatting with customers, but only those who want to talk with servers would visit restaurants with a server. In this scenario, waiters would be acting more like service assistants. This could take away the need for waiters to be as involved in the kitchen as the chef. In this day and age, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. We may also see a shift in the way restaurants serve their food. Waiters would probably be much less involved with preparing food because of all the computer work that goes into preparing a meal. While waiters are still the face of restaurants, it seems possible that the service will be done via computer. Think about all the costs that would go down. And when you consider that a computerized system would eliminate the need for servers, waiters would have less overhead. This could also mean that waiters would have more hours available to them, which could lead to more sales and more tips for waiters. More opportunities for things to be done by a computer might also mean that technology would improve people's service and relationships with people. If waiters and waitresses were more remote, it would mean that more people would be able to trust their interactions with waiters and servers. The Internet also allows people to reach people more quickly, which is definitely good for people and businesses alike. There are many different ways that technology could change the world of waiters and bartenders. Regardless of which way things go, we should hope that technology does a better job of serving people and creating a great restaurant experience, so that we can enjoy longer and more fulfilling lives.

Can Technology End Waiters?
Tumblr media
Can technology end waiters? Just a thought, a futuristic joke. But it's certainly possible, right? There will be some level of automation in the industry, but really, there's no need to remove the human element altogether, right? Yes, some new inventions could eliminate the need for waiters. But I can't think of anything that will completely replace them. Right? Of course, there are always going to be customers who still feel that a waitress is the most important. And while a computer system could take some of the important responsibilities off of them, it would not provide them with any emotional connection to the customer or to the place they were waiting in. The two jobs are very different and those who think about replacing the waiter or waitress do not consider the emotional component. A waitress may be the most important customer in your establishment. Yes, they might not be as important as an order, but they are the ones that want a special deal or something extra. They might not have a computer system, but you can give them a dinner menu printed on a napkin. Or you can get them a gift certificate to a spa or nail salon. Computer technology has increased the supply of computer technicians, and the demand for them has grown. This is especially true in the restaurant industry. Although technology makes it possible to do more things faster, the human element has made it possible to improve the quality of service. How would you feel if someone came to your house and didn't do a great job? How would you feel if the person you hired did a terrible job? Let's face it, in our culture, the only way to provide top-notch service isto use the human touch. People expect that, and the secret to getting that is by eliminating the human element. And the only way to do that is to replace the wait staff with technology. However, if you are going to have a computer program "do" your jobs, it would make more sense to hire a software program, so that the program can run on its own, without requiring a person to enter in the information for which the menu is for. Rather than keep a computerized system for the wait staff, why not use that same system to eliminate wait staff? When you combine server equipment with software that does everything, you can have a totally automated system. Instead of hiring a chef to prepare your meal, a computer can automatically prepare the food, an automated telephone operator can answer all the calls, and other things can be automated. In fact, there is nothing that will stop a software program from running on its own. If you want, you can have a computer system that does everything from producing menus to delivering meals. Waiters' job is to drive people to their tables. The entire reason that they exist is to provide that service. If they cannot do that anymore, they are not doing their job. While technology has improved dramatically in the last several years, the economy has caused businesses to rely more on their employees. If the economy goes back to where it was before the recent economic crisis, it is unlikely that this trend will change.
Will Technology End Waiters?

Artificial intelligence isometric icons collection with creative robots playing gitaar singing painting designing writing isometric vector illustration I've spent most of my life wondering, will technology end waiters? Although I can't see it happening in the near future, I often think that the restaurant industry is dependent on a steady supply of waiters and bussers. It's an interesting thing to consider, especially since restaurants employ these workers and do interesting things with them. Restaurant food and drink sales are larger than ever, but with today's demand, they must recruit, train, and fill jobs all the time. I grew up in a world where waiters were common. When I went to college, it was assumed that waiters were the only employees who needed training or education. Even when I worked at a large restaurant, I never had to get a job as a waiter until I started taking classes in salesmanship. As long as the restaurant met the needs of its customers, it didn't matter how well I performed my job. I was sure that other waiters would be hired in time. It was so easy to assume things were fine because I thought I'd see a lot more restaurants one day. After all, more people enjoy eating out. More people have been asking for restaurant services. The restaurant industry is unique in that the success of a restaurant depends heavily on the quality of its customers. While there are some restaurants that are more successful than others, the nature of the industry means that restaurants need to recruit and train as many waiters as possible. Perhaps the biggest difference between the restaurant industry and any other industry is that the majority of jobs in the restaurant industry require some degree of experience. There are many restaurants that offer positions to waiters and users, but very few restaurants offer positions to people without any restaurant experience. Restaurants expect those they hire to perform. It's understandable why a restaurant owner would want someone who knows the place and its customers. I'm not saying that restaurant owners who don't have experience don't deserve their jobs. But when a restaurant owner wants a busser or a waiter, it makes sense to make sure they have at least some real-world experience. Many restaurants will hire a person with no experience to teach them what they're doing. This might work for them if the waiters are as trained and experienced as the restaurant owners wish to hire. Many restaurant owners also make a living recruiting new waiters and bussers. The restaurants they own often have a lot of vacancies and are willing to pay good money to get people that the owners can use to fill openings. Overall, I find it interesting that most restaurant owners are willing to pay for someone to train waiters and bussers. They want to know that they can depend on their employees. I hope this little experiment is useful to restaurateurs.

Can Technology Replace Waiters?
Tumblr media
A waiter is a waitress who can bring food to your table and serve. Today, some restaurants may ask you to bring your own cup, if your meal costs too much or maybe if you want a different drink. I could, or so I thought. And you know how it goes when you're paying for something that you do not want to pay for. Perhaps you will agree with me, but if you want to avoid all of this and still enjoy a delicious meal, why would you have a waitress? Even if you are the cook, which in some establishments is a waitress, this is not the only position that can be done by automation. Why not just go to the carhop and get yourself a carhop to do all of the restaurant work? Well, how many restaurants will make use of such a position? In the restaurant business, the need for a carhop is more important. Why would anyone bother to go through the hassle of hiring another person to do their job and then again come back to your table? Not to mention that with the carhop, the carhop may be busy serving other customers, especially during peak times. Why would anyone want another person to handle the traffic? The price of getting a bus is quite high as well. Also, there will always be conflicts when two people want the same thing. Why would anyone want two people standing over each other at a time when the other can pass the order without having to compete? Waiters also need to be careful with their location. As we all know, some people take bad care of their personal space. Some take things too far. A waitress needs to know her customer, as well as the surroundings. How could a waitress serve a large group of people without being able to move in the smallest detail? Waiters need to know about the customer's wishes. Another possibility for a waiter's position is that of a computer programmer. As computers become more affordable, companies will need waiters with programming skills. Today, there are carhops who use the help of a robot to do their work. Now, all they need is a computer to run the software. Why not have the same opportunity as a waiter, to spend their time doing something enjoyable and valuable? In the taxi industry, there are already some taxi drivers who have been using a taxi "robot". It is usually programmed to pick up passengers, drive them to their destination and pick up other customers. This means that the company can save a lot of money on hiring a person to run the whole business. Indeed, the increase in automation is inevitable, as technology will keep advancing and people will be attracted to its pleasures and frustrations. Of course, to do so you must first stop complaining, but after that you need to find out what you want. This will surely help you find your dream career.
Will Technology Replace Waiters?
Tumblr media
Robot isometric professions set of isolated icons with futuristic robotic workers of industrial and service sector vector illustration My children love to go to movies and dinner to entertain themselves in the comfort of their own cars. What about my daughter and her friends? What if a taxi driver made a living from driving people to and from dinner and movie theaters? Maybe the waiters and the waitress could do some of the work and you'd be able to walk to the theater. But wait, wouldn't this require more money to run the business? Well, think again, when you consider how much you will have to pay the waiters and the waitress at the theater or the dinner you'll pay them. And you'll pay them by the seats you take and the food you eat. You know that really goes down to the financials. And if you are wondering what your life will be like without the money, you might want to look at how much you really care about what you will or won't spend on your children's entertainment. What if it was as simple as grabbing something from the buffet and getting in the car and you walked out of the theater? I think the food would be cheaper and better, I'm sure the kids would also enjoy it, but think how much you will waste eating and getting back into the theater. It isn't a wise choice to put up with that today. I think we will have a carhop or a waitress in every restaurant and every movie, even the movie theaters will have waiters and waitresses, because you'll be able to see the food more clearly and it won't be so difficult to follow what is being served. Now my question is, will carhops and waitress also make enough money to earn a living? You can't really think of the same person to whom you paid for a meal as you pay a waiter or waitress, when you pay a waitress or a carhop you can't just say: well this one was kind enough to make that job for me. No, you pay the person who took the orders, cleaned up, moved the food, and did everything else needed to get the place open, and they will feel like they didn't have any reason not to make the job. They will definitely feel appreciated. If you can find a business that pays a little bit more, that will mean more to the waitress and a little less to the waiter. Not much more, but more than enough to keep both happy. The waiter might become the next waiter and may decide that he will work fewer hours and have more of an opportunity to become the waitress. I think that today there are many great things that the internet has brought to us that I don't think we will regret. So we need to think about what kind of technology we want in our society and what we want for our children. For instance, there are many more possibilities today for the internet to do for television shows, movies, and music videos and there are many more ways that they can reach us. Right now, with a web cam you can see on the Internet, and you can find the songs or watch movies with your laptop, but there are many other ways to watch TV shows, listen to music, and watch movies online. So maybe instead of waiting on the screen, we want the screen to talk to us. Cars and movies are the two great things of our time, and neither will be replaced by anything. But wait, we might want to consider what will be required of those who serve these things. I think we will have all the waiters and carhops, even the waitress and carhop, and some other service work, maybe even in higher paying jobs. But remember, we will pay for it by either paying a lot more or paying a lot less. It may be that those who are willing to do more are rewarded more and those who do less are penalized.

Can Technology Save Waiters?
Tumblr media
Are we seeing the beginning of the end for the "waitress and bartender" model? Yes, definitely. There's a lot of discussion in the restaurant industry about this very topic, and the fact is that the waiter and bartender model will not only be coming to an end, but the other models that go along with it will soon follow. Restaurant owners have been losing business because of this issue for quite some time now. The reason why this has happened is simple: customers don't want waiters to be available when they walk into the restaurant, to serve them a drink or appetizer. Restaurants are losing more customers every day simply because customers don't want to wait on them. The only way to overcome this problem is to do something that will make the customer want to be served by the waiter, or the waitress. The restaurant must do something to change how people think about waiters and waitresses. Well, one thing that may be doing the trick is giving customers what they want. The restaurant should have the ability to offer the right types of food, with the right kinds of services, at the right times, to those people who show up at the door. It is only through giving them the ability to step into a "Service Experience" in which the waiters and waitresses are responsible for providing the service at the right time, that people will come back to a restaurant. In other words, they won't want to return just because the waiters and waitresses don't perform as well as they should. If you're a restaurant owner and you've noticed this, it would be foolish not to take advantage of it. This is the beginning of the end for the waiter and bartender model, and the very beginnings of a more "real world" restaurant environment. This may mean giving them the ability to talk to the customers, to offer tips, to have their own menu boards, to serve drinks and mixers. It could also mean that a restaurant is going to be offering a daily buffet menu, with a variety of different options. Having customers interact with the staff and make recommendations, rather than waiting around while a waitress or a bartender does the talking for them, could change the way customers see restaurants, including waiters and waitresses. If a restaurant does not include this type of service experience, it's quite likely that customers will stay away from it and stay away from the restaurant. This is why it is important to start thinking about the future of your restaurant sooner rather than later. Since there is a definite shift towards a real world restaurant, and a less "service" oriented lifestyle, more restaurants are realizing that it is a mistake to continue with the model that is so effective. Restaurants are actually starting to see that they need to replace the waiter and bartender model. In fact, the trend is so strong that restaurant owners are able to afford to hire and train new people to become waiters and bartenders. At least, until people begin to recognize this trend, as it happens. People seem to be starting to recognize the need for a "Carhop"Waitress and Bartender" model, and they are also beginning to recognize that it is simply not possible to retain those workers, or to employ new people to provide those jobs. The truth is that in order to protect themselves from this trend, restaurant owners need to shift their focus towards the features that customers will really want, rather than the features that they think they might want.
Will Technology Save Waiters?
Tumblr media
Robot isometric professions set of isolated icons with futuristic robotic workers of industrial and service sector vector illustration "Can Technology Save Waiters?" is a question many people have asked in the past. Yes, there are companies that are looking for candidates that can work as a server or hostess at a hotel or restaurant. Even so, the demand for restaurant servers and hostesses still outpaces the supply of jobs, but it may be that it will be the job that's cut back in order to make room for new ideas in other areas of the restaurant industry. The "Why Does Waitress No Longer Need a Job? "This" can help you come up with answers to your own questions. When you think about it, waiter jobs are now becoming more dependent on technology. In the past, when a waitress went out for her regular meal, she got out a menu and a drink order, checked to see what food was available and, if the restaurant had any specials, called out an order for each. At times, this was possible due to a very fast telephone response time. Now, it is quite possible to do the same thing by sitting at a computer, pushing a few buttons. If you've ever thought about your own favorite waiter's role and how the introduction of computers would help the industry, think again. In fact, a server does not rely on a computer to do his or her job. A server has a computer, maybe a laptop, but typically a couple of monitor screens and maybe a fax machine to talk to a customer. In fact, today's server's job is not complicated and can be done by most people who have some computer experience. Certainly, the server will still need to get out a menu and check on the availability of the food but the computer is the one that is responsible for the proper delivery of the food and an accurate temperature reading when ordering. This is not to say that the waitress's job is not important but it is to say that there is a big difference between the waiter's job and the server's job. It is also important to point out that waiters and server's jobs are not the same job. The basic difference between the two jobs is that the waiter works primarily as a "gate keeper" for customers and allows them into the establishment and that is the only job he or she does. A server is an employee of the restaurant, allows customers inside but is responsible for the overall presentation of the food and all the service that go along with it. The great thing about servers and waiters is that the technology is coming for both. Both jobs will be automated because the jobs will not be the same anymore. Many restaurants will not be able to afford to keep servers and so, they will eliminate their server positions. However, waiters will benefit from the technology because there will be a much larger pool of applicants for the positions than ever before. This will include people that do not have a computer or have had bad experiences in the past. There is a new job market and it is time for someone to step up to the plate and accept the job that comes with it. The Internet offers many benefits including job openings, training, licensing, healthcare benefits, unemployment insurance and a plethora of other opportunities. Waiters, server, dishwasher, bus boy or bartender, there is a new job for you. Technology is changing the way we do things. Don't wait until it becomes too late.
