you ever think about how the Owl House uses hair as a metaphor for control?

like how Lilith straightened her hair and dyed it black when she joined the Emperor’s Coven, and after she left the Coven, it began to return to its natural, frizzy state

like how Amity dyed her hair green and kept it short and neat because her mother liked it that way, and after she stopped following her mother’s orders, she dyed it purple and let it grow long

like how Vee kept her hair short and brown when she had to pretend to be Luz, but now that she is her own person, her hair is colorful and fluffy

like how Camilla used a straightening iron on her hair and after she refused to allow society to tell her how to parent, she threw her straightener out and let her hair be curly again

like how Hunter had his long hair and that one strand of hair because Belos wanted him to look just like Caleb, and after he escaped Belos’s control, he cut it short and became his own person.

and when Belos possessed him, Hunter’s hair grew long again

I was just thinking about how Hunter tells Gus "the weekends [in the Emperor's Coven] were nice" because he "got to leave the castle for missions." Hm. Really recontextualizes how cheerful and excited he was as the Golden Guard in Separate Tides and Hunting Palismen... because it was the only time he got to do stuff and see other people outside the castle :(

Something about how Belos feasted on palismen to make his power grow, he'd take them from witches against their will and break them open like they were lifeless objects, and he almost did so with Flapjack

Something about how Hunter was on the brink of death because Belos, the man who uses palismen like they were nothing, tried to use him the same way, tried stealing his life away from him once more when he had finally broken out

Something about how Flapjack healed Hunter because he loved him. The last thing Flapjack would ever do, and it was him helping to bring the boy he loves back to life after Belos nearly broke them both. How Flapjack gave himself up so Hunter wouldn't have to die to the man who hurt him every single day
