THE GATTAI Might Gaine

Man, just like I had to reshoot a few pics for the SMP Might Gaine review, I kept having the reshoot the train pictures for this one. First I forgot to put the weird things on the sides of the Locomorizer, then I forgot to fold away Might Wing's top fin, then I forgot to fold properly fold Gaine's back wheels. In fact, if you look at the shot of Gaine and Might Wing in train mode, Gaine's wheels are still folded wrong, I just didn't bother to reshoot that one since they were partially obscured. Funny how history repeats itself.

The Good: This thing is great, and is everything I wish the SMP was. Might Wing is probably the weakest, having a decent transformation and arm mode, however the included vertical stabilizer is very small, so it comes with an attachable one (luckily, the only add-on part besides alternate hands). While Gaine lacks many locking points, his transformation and proportions are fantastic. His posability isn't the best, only having so much in terms of legs and outward shoulders, but considering all it has to accomplish, it's very impressive. The Locomorizer is basically a brick as a train, and lacks the storage feature of the original and SMP, but looks great, and has a very good transformation.

Might Gaine is fantastic. Its posability is slightly better than that of Dynazenon, and its transformation is entirely self-contained, and the transformation hands are both posable and can hold its swords. As a nice bonus, it comes with a flight stand for Might Wing that doubles as accessory storage.

The Bad: While I think the posability is good for everything this guy has to do, with elbows that go beyond 45°, inward and outward shoulder movement, etc., it does lack a waist, the lack of a double joint in the elbows prevents it from doing some of its iconic poses, and the outward ratchet on the legs is a little wide.

Also, weird production thing, my inner right leg had a bunch of dried glue or something on the inner thigh.

Overall, I'm very happy with this figure. It makes me want to track down the THE GATTAI Thunder Gridman even more, and I look forward to Might Kaiser and their combining aspect in a few months. I didn't end up ordering Might Gunner since it doesn't really integrate into the combination, but I'm excited to see what else this line has to offer in the future.

the brave franchise has something with drills doesn't it

today I started watching Brave exkaiser after having watched Brave police J decker and Brave of gold Goldran, and how funny it was the fact than in all 3 of theese shows there is a character with the word "Drill" in their name

so I went to wikipedia to check if any other of the brave shows had this phenomenon repeating itself and...

YES... There are Drills in all of them

Day 125: Black Mightgaine (Brave Express Mightgaine)

I couldn’t get enough of drawing black Mightgaine yesterday, so here he is again! I promise something else tomorrow, but my little boy must continue today!

I tried drawing his sword attack pose, then the brave sword pose, and I stuck with the sword attack pose. I’m gonna figure out how to do that brave sword pose though, just you wait!

SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT Might Gaine

I don’t know how I did it, but I did the front shot backwards. I always do my front shots with them facing left, and somehow missed that for the first time in forever. It bugged me so much I ended up inverting the shot, but since it’s an asymmetrical kit that ended up begging me so much I went back days later to just redo the picture. I even got the back shot right, so I don’t know what was on my mind at the time that I could have made that kind of mistake...

Anyway, Might Gaine. Classic Brave series. Never seen it, heard good things. Will probably try tracking it down at some point to watch.

The Good: Like many of the Moderoids I’ve handled, Might Gaine comes with a few replacement parts, but unlike a lot of those same Moderoids, Might Gaine can fully transform without needing to swap or shed parts to do so. It comes with more show accurate arms and horns. It also comes with a few extra hands, a gun hand for Gaine, an alternate mouth plate, and the few very small parts it has have doubles in case you lose or break them.

The Bad: While Gaine and the Might Wing have solid transformations, the Locomorizer has a very fiddly one, and could be more solid as a robot. While all its weird parts have dedicated storage, it still requires a few weird things, like pulling the legs apart at the hips, or folding the back of the legs in weird positions.

The Details: Just panel lining and stickers. There are two sets of window stickers for Gaine and Might Wing, and I chose to both sets with metallic blue windows. Though, a lot of the stickers near transformation edges have already started to fray, and definitely won’t last very long. If I had realized that sooner, I probably would have painted it instead.

Overall, it’s definitely one of the better non-Bandai Namco kits I’ve handled, having a solid transformation that doesn’t require any extraneous parts to make work, though has them if you want something more anime-accurate. I might try tracking down the other kits to make Great Might Gaine if they do them.

(!) Flashing lights and spoilers for Brave Express Might Gaine episode 46 (!)

There was something about the interaction with the child that made this scene memorable to me. It is only too bad that, in my opinion, none of the robots shown in this clip had any kind of personality. So much wasted potential.

This is the RAW version of the episode with half-edited, half-improvised subtitles, because the original dub of the later episodes is not good and there was no script for the last eight episodes to be found online.

Yeah the fact that the mech's in Might Gaine don't really have any actual personality traits or any real substantial character development IS a wasted potential. But take a moment to imagine how debilitating my crush on Gaine would be if he actually had substantial depth and growth as a character
