This might be the best thing to ever happen to my account. Worst thing? Poor Brandon Lee’s legacy. Anyways:

Saw the new Eric Draven from The Crow remake and I just need everyone to stop. Unless we somehow can make Brandon Lee Eric Draven again. I don’t want it.

Thoughts on The Crow(2024)
The director really fucked up by deciding to retell the story of Shelly and Eric. Fans know that the Crow is a legacy character so just tell a different story with different characters while still having the Crow be resurrected. EVERYTHING about this new movie is completely different from the 90s version but some studio exec was like "ayo, you still gotta call the leads Eric & Shelly so the fans recognize them." No, I don't recognize these characters! You shoulda just called them Alice and Brian or something cuz that's not my Eric & Shelly. I hate when writers wanna tell original stories but they gotta use recognizable characters to do it, which leaves a bad taste.

okay, like, i seriously couldn't care less if u dug that or not, y'know? look, i don't give a damn, u can scratch your ass with your long nails far away from me, 'cause Bill Skarsgård in just a few minutes of trailer totally sold me that he's gonna nail it as Eric! i freaking loved that trailer, got nothing to complain about it.

I'm enjoying this Crow remake discourse.
People are acting so precious about the original, this movie is not back to the future and we had terrible remakes. Bill Skarsgard won't tarnish Brandon Lee's version. It will likely bring a new generation to watch it.
Second most talked point is Bill's look, comparing him with Jared Leto Joker. I can see why people are making the comparison, both are white tattoed man with abs. The end.
Let's be critical here, the 90s version looked like a rockstar from the era, you can't tell me older people didn't think the look was cringe. Same goes from 2024 version, he looks like a rockstar from today, you may not like it but it does, and what the Leto's Joker was based on.
As for the actual movie, I don't know if it's good or bad, but it it's but isn't because the original is untouchable or because the new version has Pinterest tattoos on

Vincent Perez, Eric Mabius, and Eddie Furlong when their movies won’t be the most hated in the crow franchise anymore when the reboot comes out:

So yeah, The Crow remake ...
Honestly, I'm willing to give it a go. I LOVE the original movie, Brandon Lee was a genuine GOAT and we lost him WAY TOO SOON, and there's no way that Bill Skarsgard is gonna be as good as he was in the role of Eric Draven. BUT ...
Snow White & the Huntsman was one of my absolute favourite underrated movies of the 2010s, it's a visually stunning masterpiece but also had a whole lot of heart and soul and LOTS going for it and deserved much better, and personally, I really enjoyed director Rupert Sanders' subsequent live-action adfaptation of Ghost In the Shell too, I thought he did a really impressive job with that and it's NOTHING LIKE the disrespectful umpster fire that many mde it out to be.
Rupert Sanders as a director is FIRE, the guy has a pretty rare talent for creating ART as cinema, but actually giving it genuine SUBSTANCE. Is this movie necessary? No, it really isn't, we've al;ready got a totally LEGENDARY movie version of The Crow to love and appreciate. Am I still going to go see this? ABSOLUTELY. So long as Sanders made THIS with as much love as he clearly made his first two feature films I'm probably going to find it worthwhile.

The Crow: Comic vs Movie (trigger warning: SA, Murder, Death)
In the movie, Shelly and Eric are tenants in an apartment who get targeted cuz they won't leave. Eric dies instantly when he's thrown out a window. In the comic, Shelly and Eric are driving back from the countryside when their car breaks down in the rain. T-Bird and his gang show up and shoot Eric in the head but don't kill him. He's alive but paralyzed, forced to watch as T-Bird and co. rape Shelly. He dies later in the hospital. The creator of The Crow comic-- O'Barr-- wrote the story after the untimely death of his own fiancée; drawing & writing the comic was his form of art therapy. His fiancée was killed in a drunk driving accident, a random act that took the love of his life from him, and it's mirrored in the tragedy Eric goes through (except Eric's tragedy is dialed up to 11). In the comic, Shelly's assault & death is spur-of-the-moment since her and Eric just so happened to meet the wrong people at the wrong time. The movie makes their death part of a grand scheme by the bad guy to get a hold of some real estate so Eric and Shelly's deaths aren't just random acts of murder and violence. The movie elevates Eric from a depressed, grief-stricken revenant to all of that but now he's blatantly a dark superhero. The reboot is supposed to stick closer to the source material than the Brandon Lee movie but idk I feel like studio execs are gonna chop the movie to pieces to make it a typical blockbuster instead of the moody, morose tragedy that it is.
