Have you ever used sketchup? And if so have you any tips because I'm currently using it for component 2 of my 3d design alevel and its driving me insane LOL
Yes! It’s what I mainly used for 3d modelling these past few years. My main tip would be to look up specific tutorials for what you need, I mainly use it for architecture so what I do won’t necessarily be what you need. I also recommend just playing around with it. TheSketchUpEssentials on youtube has really good tutorials for the basics and even more advanced stuff if you feel like looking into those.

Discovering Twilight Render
Once I had rediscovered SketchUp, I found videos and articles talking about photorealistic rendering models from SketchUp. I investigated this more an looked up rendered interiors in google images, finding images of rooms that were hard to tell if they were a render or photograph.
Seeing this technology that's readily available blew my mind and I instantly knew I had to explore this further and possibly even base my outcomes on this software.
After trying many different softwares such as Kerkythea, Blender and Unity I found a YouTube video by TheSketchUpEssentials that gave a tutorial on a SketchUp plugin called Twilight Render.
I installed this extension into my SketchUp and it was so much easier and quicker to use than the other software I had previously tried, allowing me to create small models and rendering them.
This is something I am definitely going to take further as it is so easy to use and has potential to create such incredibly interesting outcomes for my FMP.

SketchUp Tutorials
TheSketchUpEssentials on YouTube was really helpful for me. His channel is linked below. I used the 5-part series ‘SketchUp Free Tutorials (Online Version)’ and there’s also a ‘SketchUp Beginners Start Here! (Desktop Version)’ which might also be good.

This is another nice presentation by the renowned sketchup tutor, Justin Geis. In this tutorial, Justin shows some useful guidelines to utilize the sketchup extensions Curic Align and Curic Space to instantly space out different objects in your sketchup models.
The tricks will be helpful while arranging the objects on shelves and other regions where spacing of several copies of the similar objects is required.
Curic Align is compatible with SketchUp 2016, SketchUp 2017, SketchUp 2018. It offers the following functionalities :-
a. Align objects with the faces/axes of BoundingBox (Left - Center - Right). b. Align to edge, face, section plane. c. Ctrl = copy d. Shift = Move from point to plane
Curic Align is compatible with SketchUp 2016, SketchUp 2017, SketchUp 2018. It offers the following functionalities :-
It uniformly place two or more selected components.
Both the extensions are accessible from extension warehouse.
To learn how different objects are spaced within your sketchup models, go through the following video tutorial.

In this sketchup video tutorial, Justin Geis demonstrates the functionality of a useful sketchup plugin called FlexTools that can be used for generating dynamic components inside sketchup.
One can produce various smart objects like doors, windows etc. The plugin allows the users to arrange the doors, windows, louvers and other objects inside openings in your sketchup models instantly and smoothly.
This sketchup plugin is developed by FlexTools CC. It is a paid extension and cost is US$33 for one component and US$114 for all components.
One can download the plugin from thesketchupessentials.com/flextools.
Flex tools is a series of opening creation tools developed on the basis of sketchup dynamic components engine. It comprises of the responsive objects scale and modifies to openings automatically.
The components can be resized devoid of any distortion. Here, only the sections of components which are expected to resize like the door or the glass in the windows, will be only resized whereas the frames and other objects remain unchanged in sizes.
To get more detail, go through the following video tutorial.

In this sketchup video tutorial, Justin Geis, briefly explains the utility of 2d tools plugin developed by TIG. This plugin can be used to model in 2d dimension easily.
The plugin includes the following toolset :-
2D freehand tool, 2D arc tool, 2D circle tool, 2D polygon tool, Facemaker tool, 2D hatching tool, 2D adjust tool, 2D line style, 2D text tool, 2D polyline edit tool
The plugin is mainly created to provide you a series of tools which have similarity to those available in other CAD packages to facilitate you drawing in two dimensions.
To set a Z plane, lock your height above ground for the tools utilized by you. It can also set your plane corresponding to an existing plane. As for instance Type +24 to set a new plane 24 inches above the plane that is already active or type -24 to set a plane 24 inches underneath the plane that is already active.
It can also be set to generate both lines and guide lines by clicking on the control key. Besides, one can generate lines as welded sets or separate lines by clicking on the alt key. You can set your z-plane within this tool by clicking on the tab key.
The plugin is free and can be downloaded from the following link sketchucation.com
For online demonstration go through the following video.
