Caia Koopman is a preeminent pop surrealism artist who has been featured in prominent galleries from California to Canada and France. Over the years, her paintings have graced the walls of Thinkspace, Spacejunk, and La Luz De Jesus Galleries as well as the pages of numerous books and magazines. The appealing symbols in her work evoke fundamental human emotions in exquisite, surreal detail making them well received in the action sports industry as well as the fine art world. Signature series Oakley sunglasses and goggles are adorned with her designs while her illustrations gild designer Rossignol snowboards, skis and more.

Holy shit, these are sooooo good! Are you gallery represented at all or completely independent? I’m sharing your website with a bunch of friends.
Thank you so much! I’m mostly independent but I do some gallery shows. I have a three person show in Joshua tree this December at Hey There Gallery and the June of 2025 I have a big solo show at ThinkSpace Projects in Los Angeles.

Via its mission: “What exactly is a tradition? It can be a shared experience established by a family and community to be sustained over time or part of a larger cultural expression, the origins of which may be lost to the past and distant spaces. Either way, our vast Southern California landscape claims many of these traditions as its own. Traditions pays homage to the many familial and cultural facets of our diverse region.”

Is there an area in your house where you can be you? A corner that knows you and gives you serenity when your mind is looping in chaos? Is it a friend that stays up long after the world is asleep and sits with you while you sip the seemingly unending cup of coffee? Or a space that welcomes your tired shoulders and quiet sobbing and echoes back without judgements? Do you have an intimate nook that is always a house for your thoughts?
Here's 'Night Kitchen', graphite on paper, 4 x 6 inches (dimensions are of artwork only) and professionally framed.
This drawing is currently on view at Thinkspace Projects for my solo exhibition 'Secret Garden' that will run till October 28 2023. Visit 'Secret Garden' - Thinkspace Projects link below for more information.

In the world of art, inspiration can come from the most unexpected sources. For my latest project, I turned to two artists who have significantly influenced my creative journey. Mary Iverson, a renowned painter and public artist, and Bela Kontuly, the Hungarian master of vibrant colour palettes, might seem like an unlikely pair to blend together. Still, the result is a captivating contrast that allows me to recreate my favorite place in time: the grandeur of the ancient Roman Empire.
Mary Iverson: The Globalisation vs. Environment Clash
Mary Iverson is a painter and public artist known for her thought-provoking works. She passionately portrays the collision between globalisation and the environment. Her art takes us on a surreal journey where container ships collide with national parks, resulting in post-apocalyptic scenarios that challenge our perspective on the world.
Bela Kontuly: The Master of Color
Bela Kontuly, on the other hand, was a Hungarian painter celebrated for his rich and vibrant color palette. His ability to manipulate tone and texture is nothing short of breathtaking. Kontuly's choice of colors, whether bold and vibrant or soft and muted, adds depth and atmosphere to his paintings, making them unforgettable.
The Ancient Roman Empire: My Favorite Place in Time
The ancient Roman Empire, with its monumental architecture, powerful emperors, and intriguing history, has always held a special place in my heart. It's a time of grandeur, complexity, and enduring legacies. To blend Iverson and Kontuly's styles into this historical backdrop is to create a striking juxtaposition.
Marrying the distinct styles of Iverson and Kontuly to portray the Roman Empire is a creative endeavor that comes with its own challenges and opportunities. Iverson's surreal scenarios and Kontuly's vibrant colors may seem like an unlikely pair, but the fusion promises a unique perspective on this iconic era.
The journey from concept to creation was both exciting and intricate. I carefully selected elements from both artists' styles to paint a vivid picture of the Roman Empire. Whether it's the collision of container ships with ancient Roman monuments or the use of vibrant colors to illuminate historical scenes, each stroke on the canvas added depth and nuance.
The fusion of Iverson's surreal scenes and Kontuly's vibrant colours breathes new life into the ancient Roman Empire. The clash between globalisation and environment gains an unexpected but intriguing dimension within this historical context. It's a striking contrast that invites viewers to see the grandeur of the past through a contemporary lens.
In the world of art, boundaries are meant to be pushed. By combining the styles of Mary Iverson and Bela Kontuly, I've unlocked a fresh perspective on the ancient Roman Empire. It's a testament to the power of artistic fusion and the endless possibilities it offers.

ThinkSpace Gallery in Los Angeles will show new works from Stephanie Buer, the first weekend in January. She does photorealistic paintings and drawings of urban spaces, many with graffiti and street art on them. Looks like some cool stuff. Here’s what the gallery wrote about her:
STEPHANIE BUER
Wild Abandon
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 5 from 6-9PM
Collector Preview will follow on Wednesday, January 2.
Thinkspace is pleased to present new works by Portland-based artist Stephanie Buerin Wild Abandon. Known for her poignant, photorealistic paintings in oil, and charcoal works on paper, Buer captures the abandoned recesses of the city, finding unexpected richness in its desolation and quietude in its abrupt vacancies. This ongoing body of work, first inspired by Buer's time spent in Detroit, Michigan, exploring the hidden corners of the city and the fallow architectural remains left by the imploded American auto industry, has since evolved into a poetic series of documentary memorials, capturing moments in the derelict lifespan of the city's castaway structures.
Buer offers glimpses of time arrested, through the abeyance of abandoned buildings and the meditative calm of their imposing discontinuity, a barrenness that seems surreal by contrast to the excessively populated pace of the world we inhabit. Without human subjects, Buer places the symbolic burden of this absence upon that which remains in view: the physical vestiges of abandonment. The invasive quality of quiet that shapes Buer's contemplative works is unique; they are arresting in that they abruptly apprehend the passage of time. Her paintings still a moment in the temporal lifespan of these abandoned structures, some in more advanced states of deterioration than others. They exist on the outskirts of time and space, divested of use and function.
By capturing the relics of urban development exhausted or gone wrong, her works reveal a fascination with the cyclical life of these structures, and their fate once returned to the lawlessness of margins. Overcome by nature, vandals, entropy, and the socially peripheral, a quiet haunting consumes these buildings with the spectral implication of loss and extinction their desertedness implies.   There is, however, redemptive peace and beauty found amongst Buer's contemporary ruins; in the eventual reappearance of nature where once it was cleared and in the continuity of a kind of rebel growth in spite of ultimate desertion or human intent.
Mysterious in the anarchic freedom their marginal existences imply, these spaces represent a kind of exemption from the restraint of the colonized city. Something elastic and free, while simultaneously vulnerable and uncertain, makes the condemned structure strangely more akin to human life. An evocative moodiness persists in Buer's poetic compositional choices, her immersive attention to detail, and her emotive capture of time and place.
The works are lovingly, and even painfully, precise in their lush detail and arrested stillness. Buer combines the representational clarity and control of photorealism with the subtly perceptual handling of her medium. Her impressionistic treatment of light is imperceptible, but produces dramatic contrasts, while the immersive level of detail she realizes is staggering. These color-saturated paintings and dark monochromatic works on paper are labor-intensive documentations that seamlessly combine observational realism with extremely subtle, affect-driven stylization.
Buer's attention to the rendering of minutiae and texture make entry into the scenes she proposes physically palpable and intimately close. We're left with the strange impression of having entered a world of slightly offset metaphysical registers, with structures that exist somehow ambiguously 'elsewhere.' Everything unassuming in the absences Buer captures feels somehow significant and revelatory.

Amy Sol’s “Bird of Flux” at Thinkspace Projects.
Currently on view at Thinkspace Projects in Culver City, California is artist Amy Sol’s gorgeous solo exhibition “Bird of Flux.”
From Thinkspace, “In her new body of work, Sol explores themes of transition, adventure, and adaptation, considering the individual faced by external and internal forces of change. In ‘Bird of Flux’ physical metamorphosis is posited as a visual metaphor for inner transformation, offering the viewer borrowed ingress into an imaginative universe of muted hues, unlikely companions, softened edges, and shadowy phantasms.”
“Bird of Flux” will be on view until March 24th, 2018.
