C7's "Pareidolia Monomania."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently on view at Haven Gallery in Northport, New York is artist C7's solo exhibition, "Pareidolia Monomania."
C7 is a mixed media artist whose works are created with ink, coffee and acrylic medium on panel and explore the human condition as well as themes of life and death. Abstract yet representational, these drawings offer fragmented, patterned views of organisms offering new perspectives and understandings on both the macro and micro levels. Viscera intermingles with flora and fauna as our realities are reinvented and our inner worlds are turned inside out. Liminal spaces host entangled organisms, giving rise to psychological epiphanies and evolution of inner beings. C7 reveals her own emotions through exposing vulnerabilities of the inner psyche and dreamscapes where surrealistic expressions and timeless internal mechanics expose the detailed complexities of ourselves and the further fragmentation of it through our perspectives.

Joung Young-Ju.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Extraordinary landscape paintings from Korean artist Joung Young-Ju.
Young-Ju produces one-of-a-kind cityscape paintings which are deeply influenced by her homeland. Her artwork, often bathed in the gentle light of dusk, portrays extensive urban landscapes filled with hints of life suggested by the twinkle of distant lights. Young-Ju's childhood was spent sketching the structures of her village, a practice that carried into her adult life after earning a Fine Art degree in Paris. The inspiration for her paintings is drawn from her experiences, like her view of Seoul's city center from Nam Mountain, and also serves as a metaphor for Korean society, depicting the contrasting realities of affluence and poverty.
Young-Ju employs a unique technique by crumpling and unfolding traditional Korean paper as her canvas. Through this process, she creates a feeling of lived-in authenticity, enhancing the impression of a life that's both well-worn and comforting. Her paintings stand as genuine portrayals of structural elements like exposed bricks, slate rooftops, and rusted gates, effectively mirroring the lives of the humble people who inhabit these spaces. They capture a brief moment of serene beauty just before nightfall, immersing the viewer in the routines of a city teetering between day and night. Each shimmering light in her artwork signifies a life, a tender beacon in the bustling cityscape.

Kehinde Wiley's "HAVANA"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kehinde Wiley, renowned for his large-scale oil portraits that reinterpret European painting traditions by prominently featuring Black and Brown individuals, once again challenges conventional narratives in his latest collection titled HAVANA, currently showcased at Sean Kelly in New York. Wiley's unique style typically involves vibrant backgrounds and positing his subjects in grand, colorful patterns. He drew inspiration from two trips to Cuba, in 2015 and 2022, exploring the vibrant, festive spirit present in many global celebrations like Mardi Gras.
In this collection, Wiley captures the diverse, creative personalities of his subjects adorned in bright clothing and accessories. He articulates that despite their differing experiences, a common thread that binds them is the economic impact of America on Cuba – a relationship steeped in fascination, suspicion, intrigue, and cultural significance. His work also pays homage to influential artists such as Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso, and Alexander Calder, who examined similar themes during the early 20th century. Through depicting acrobats, dancers, and musicians, Wiley explores Cuba's political history, economic struggles, and the relentless quest for artistic liberty, using the spectacle of circuses and carnivals as a platform for celebration, disruption, and self-expression.

Leffe Goldstein's "Dreaming Demons"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leffe Goldstein’s ‘Dreaming Demons' present an alternative future. The drawings depict a black and white vision of an absurd world without humans; a world where only their demons have survived.
Intrigued by places that were once full of life and loved by their inhabitants and builders, Leffe’s drawings are based on real, existing places or objects. Architecture, pieces of machinery, planes, helicopters and vehicles that were left to decay; objects that were invented and served a purpose, built with the hands of real people. In Leffe's universe, these people are no longer there and long forgotten. But take a good look and you can see their demons are still thriving, breeding an alternative future world.
“Most people see demons as their wildest fears while others seem to enjoy them but the lucky ones have both.”
Leffe Goldstein always starts sketching with pencil but the finished black and white works are drawn digitally. He uses the sketch as an under-layer and works endlessly on details to bring the demons to life. When finished the drawings are printed as a silkscreen print, or a Giclée.
