Blaut (1993) identifies many conceptual practices that enable Europeans to find it appropriate to ignore other cultures’ roles in the creation of the modern Western world. One, for example, is the “tunnel of time,” by which we modern Westerners reclaim classical Greek achievements for ourselves alone, ignoring the long and fruitful history of the Greek legacy in Arabic and other non-Western cultures, and how these cultures also contributed to the advancement of the West.
