ASRock Industrial 4X4 box -7840U Mini-PC performance

ASRock Industrial has become a leading ultra-compact form-factor (UCFF) PC supplier in recent years. After their announcements, processor vendors shipped 4″x4″ systems on the latest AMD and Intel platforms a few weeks later. Regarding AMD, the company introduced the 4X4 BOX-7735U, which is based on the Rembrandt Refresh, earlier this year. A few quarters later, the 4X4 BOX-7040 series, which is based on the Phoenix architecture, was released.
AMD’s most recent Zen 4 CPU cores and an RDNA3-based iGPU are added to the 4X4 BOX-7040 series, which expands upon the I/O and iGPU enhancements found in the 4X4 BOX-7735U. Theoretically, the switch from a 6nm TSMC process to a 4nm one, along with improvements in CPU and iGPU technology, should result in significantly improved performance and power efficiency across a variety of workloads.
The Ryzen 7 7840U, a 28W TDP component, is very similar to the Ryzen 7 7840HS, which was previously tested in Beelink’s GTR7 in a 65W mode. The base clock is lowered due to the lower power limit. I/Os, other operating parameters, and the configuration of the iGPU stay the same. Although ASRock Industrial (and other mini-PC vendors) have been utilizing the U-series in actively-cooled UCFF cases, notebook platforms are the primary purpose of the series. Vendors have some flexibility in determining the power limits and, consequently, performance when a fan is present.
The 4X4 BOX-7840U is shipped by ASRock Industrial in “Normal Mode,” with AMD’s recommended TDP of 28W. Nonetheless, the system can be forced into a “Performance Mode” with an increased TDP of about 40W by flipping a toggle in the BIOS.
Over the past ten years, UCFF systems have gradually supplanted large tower desktops for a variety of use cases. Both home consumer and industrial settings have seen growth in this category, with the latter driving the B2B / industrial computing arms of many motherboard vendors to give such systems more attention. Since 2019, ASRock Industrial, which was separated from ASRock’s business unit in 2018, has been developing UCFF systems that utilize both AMD and Intel platforms.
This goes into great detail about the company’s flagship UCFF product, the 4X4 BOX-7840U, which is based on AMD Phoenix. With its foundation in AMD’s top-tier Phoenix 28W product (Ryzen 7 7840U), the new system is aimed as a successor to the Rembrandt-R-powered 4X4 BOX-7735U that was introduced earlier this year. The Ryzen 7 7735U’s 8C/16T configuration is carried over to the Ryzen 7 7840U. The CPU cores are now based on Zen 4, and the fabrication process has switched from TSMC’s 6nm FinFET to a 4nm FinFET. The integrated GPU in Rembrandt-R was redesigned to use the RDNA3-based 780M in Phoenix instead of the RDNA2-based Radeon 680M.
The UCFF systems from ASRock Industrial are unremarkable devices without an elaborate casing design. The 4X4 BOX-7840U also uses the same operational chassis as the 4X4 BOX systems from earlier. The glossy polycarbonate fingerprint magnet casing’s lifespan has been extended as a result, but that will change in 2024. The I/O port locations from the prior generation are exactly the same. The internal board is also essentially the same because DDR5 support and USB4 ports were already included in the 4X4 BOX-7735U’s design.
There are just two models in the 4X4 BOX-7040 series from the company: one is based on the Ryzen 5 7640U and the other on the Ryzen 7 7840U.
It’s important to take note of ASRock Industrial’s I/O port selection for the AMD and Intel systems in the same generation. The back USB ports on AMD models are limited to USB 2.0, but on Intel versions, they support USB 3.2 Gen 2. Nonetheless, in AMD systems, the two Type-C ports on the front panel support all USB4 features, including PCIe tunneling. The Intel boards are lacking in features; only one Type-C port supports Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4 in its entirety, while the other port only supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 with Alt DP.
The company sells the motherboard alone in addition to a stripped-down version of the system. The motherboard is intended for the B2B channel, whereas the former is usually sold in retail stores. The basic version package includes the main unit, a geo-specific power cord, a 120W DC power adapter (19V @ 6.32A), a VESA mount (along with the necessary screws).To finish the build, the barebones version requires an M.2 2280 SSD and two DDR5 SODIMMs. A Samsung 990 PRO 2TB Gen 4 NVMe SSD was used in conjunction with Crucial’s DDR5-5600 SODIMM kit (2x16GB) for this purpose.
Although the system supports a 2.5″ SATA drive, ASRock Industrial strongly advises against using it to help ensure adequate airflow. Other than that, the installation procedure is the same as with the previous 4X4 BOX systems, and we quickly had a freshly installed OS up and running (after installing the chipset drivers from the product support page). The XDNA engine, which is now known as Ryzen AI in Phoenix Refresh, is part of the Ryzen 7 7840U, but Windows Update does not currently have the drivers for it, which Device Manager recognizes as an IPU.

One of the factors also contributing to making this way of underwriting in developing countries popular is lack of data availability for unorganized self-employed sectors. Imagine a road side tea shop vendor earning almost INR 50,000 in a month but the Cash flows are a mixture of Cash, credit, online wallets and even sometimes barter. What good is technology if it is not cost effective and cannot solve a potent problem. At the same time, paucity of data for unorganized sectors still remains a snag and Banks are forced to either create new accounts, build a credit history and then lend prospects or use physical agencies who look over Non-professionals in their peak hours of working and take a judgement.
Processes such as Video based KYC, Income assessment through Bank Statement Analysis, Bureau Pull and closure through eNACH& eSignatures have helped create processes without any manual intervention but is mostly not much admired for un-organized sectors because of the people not being that tech-savvy and of course of problem of data that we have been pondering over. Bringing in Vernacular support helps to a little extent but does not solves the problem completely.
Digging a little deeper into the Gut based Lending, it’s not completely about Intuitions. It is considered that if the customer if existing and has a good repayment structure. Four stages to building an effective supply chain network
We can look at the evolution of an effective supply chain as the creation of a dynamic, evolving network. As more members join by committing to supply chain developments, the network expands, relationships evolve, and activity shifts from being OEM-centric to having multiple influences. Ideally, the network is a collaborative environment where all members are involved in defining the processes and contributing to the value of the finished product.
There are four stages to the evolution of such a supply chain network:

Stage 1: Supply Management. The most basic stage, built around an internal MRP system that is lead-time driven. It includes tier-one suppliers only. Most planned vendor interaction is through documentation and seldom involves status reporting. Communications are transactional and include quoting, purchase orders, and releases.
Stage 2: Supply Chain Management. This stage is characterized by an increased scope and includes tier-two suppliers and beyond. There is also increased interest in status reporting, some data sharing among participants, and generally more complex interrelationships. Communications are transactional with the addition of data flow.
Stage 3: Supply Chain Integration. Includes programs that benefit all members of the chain. It elevates supply to collaborative involvement among the members, including strategic planning and risk sharing. Communications at this level go well beyond transactions and data and include information of all types.
Stage 4: Demand-Supply Network Collaboration. Cooperative interaction and proactive behavior based on critical information that flows freely and simultaneously throughout the supply network. It is sometimes referred to as the glass pipe. I know of no examples of this stage in the electronics industry.
Any supply chain will perform at the level of its least developed participants. These companies, without the ability or perhaps willingness to develop channel-compatible supply chain strategies, are bottlenecks and compensating for them has significant cost to the channel in terms of the misuse of resources.
The electronics industry is stuck in Stage 2 because of these bottlenecks. Moving beyond supply chain management requires collaboration, and collaboration requires shared plans and trust. Collaboration drives parity in the channel and tends to generate self-sustained improvement.
Ultimately, visionary leaders in the supply chain will share their road maps and synchronize them with the rest of the channel. Leaders among partners and suppliers will develop independent complementary road maps that not only support their partners’ but also create new business dynamics protecting their business initiatives. Those without a road map will, by definition, not be part of the plan and therefore will not be part of the solution.
Sun Microsystems is one such leader. The company consistently involves its suppliers in planning and implementing supply chain architecture, and has built trusting relationships through collaboration. Sun has collaborated with suppliers on software selection, forecasting, and planning. Its performance with partners mirrors the executive-to-executive involvement that Sun has with many of its key suppliers.
Both Dell and Cisco Systems have identified supplier supply chains as strategic differentiators. Dell, for example, posts information on the Internet for suppliers to access, such as point-of-sale and demand-forecast data. This type of sharing builds trust and encourages Dell’s suppliers to better manage their supply chains to minimize channel inventory. In this case, all supply-chain participants have agreed-upon objectives and practices.
In the future, OEMs should let the process of natural selection happen. They will benefit most by committing their resources to collaboration at the road-map level and supporting like-minded self-motivated partners. Providing life support to partners that “just don’t get it” creates a weak foundation and a vulnerable channel. Lacking that resolve, the supply chain will never reflect the efforts of its best-practice performers.
Partners that truly depend on each other have governing rules. These rules travel via standards and will be controlled by compliance agreements. RosettaNet and ISO are examples.
Predictions abound as to how new technology, instantaneous information flow, and a host of new-breed service providers will create the ultimate in channel efficiency. That’s all well and good. However, there is no silver bullet when it comes to building a lasting and robust supply chain. It’s hard work. Without a road map, collaboration, and trust, these new capabilities do nothing more than provide enhanced information distortion.

Single Point of Contact / Source of Information A project manager is the central figure of a project, disseminating project information and updates to the Project Team, Business Leaders and Clients, which decreases confusion and increases accuracy. 2. Increase Efficiency The project manager works with team members to confirm which activities must occur in the project and in what order so projects are completed faster and more efficiently. Every project is made up of interconnected activities, each of which has its own set of checks and balances. 3. Control Scope Project scope details the work and activities required to deliver the completed product or service. A phenomenon that often occurs is “scope creep,” which refers to continuous changes to the initial project. To contain creep, a project manager puts markers in place before anyone can add or take away from the scope. 4. Manage Financials Delivering on time and on budget are one of the constraints in any project. A project manager controls not only monetary costs but also the people resources, both internal and external, and equipment costs as well. 5. Manage Time Time is arguably the most important constraint of any project. Because project team members still have day-to-day responsibilities, managing their time can be a challenge. A project manager manages deadlines by setting a schedule at the inception of the project. 6. Schedule Management The project manager plays an important role in ensuring all the team members work on their assigned activities in the appropriate order. The project manager helps members calculate the time a task takes and solves any problems so they can successfully meet their deadlines. 7. Identifying & Mitigating Project Risks No matter how well planned, a chance for potential risks in a project exists. A project manager anticipates and identifies risks and creates a risk response process to track their status. It’s important to make risk prevention part of the initial planning phase. If the project manager can’t prevent the problems, managing them is the next best solution. 8. Administer Procurement (Doesn't apply to all Org.) If your project requires purchases from outside vendors, the project manager manages the contracts and terms and tracks invoices to ensure suppliers and the project customer live up to the terms of the contract. Note: Some Org. has a dedicated Procurement team which manages end to end procurement. In this case, a PM needs to ensure that every activity is on-track as per the timelines. (For e.g.: Raise a PR (purchase requests), PO (purchase order) creation, Sign-offs / approvals, Negotiations, etc.). 9. Communicate With Stakeholders As project progresses, it is important to make stakeholders aware of any risks and successes along the way. The project manager communicates the goals and performance to business leaders in a regularly scheduled report. 10. Close the Project After the project meets the goals and expectations of the project customer, the project manager documents and reviews the project phases with the team members and leadership to analyze patterns, trends and opportunities for improvement for the next project.
