Pro:
-fantastic control of the temperature. -huge cooler space. -interior allocators.
Cons:
-Smaller cooler from Best Purchase, $3,499.99. -Buy at Home Warehouse now. -$3499 bucks from Walmar. -$3,499.00, accessible at Wayfair.

How To Find The Best Fridge In UAE?
Refrigerators are essential in every home, making up a reliable unit for the preservation of leftovers and fresh foods. However, with so many choices and types available in the market, the choice has become rather challenging.
That is why, we have put together this brief guide to help you pick the perfect refrigerator for your home.
What To Look For When Buying A Fridge?
With the rapid inclination towards smart living, home appliances have started integrating cutting-edge technology to serve up to the growing demand for innovation. Finding the best refrigerator in UAE is no more about searching a unit that offers longer service life and low-cost, there are also other factors you must look for while purchasing. Here is a list of things to factor in before you shop for an appliance.
1.   Capacity:
The capacity a fridge offers is an essential factor that mostly relies on the size of your family and home. Contemporary models now come with larger storage spaces, extending up to 900 liters.
If you live solo, a mini refrigerator with 50-80 liter capacity may be sufficient. However, as the number of people in the house grows, so does your table, and consequently, your food storage requirements also expand. As a standard rule, a family of 2-3 should have a 150-250 liter unit, a family of 4-5 would require 250-350 liters, whereas a 350-490 liters unit may be suitable for 6-8 family members.
2.           Cost:
Budgeting is important when purchasing an appliance. But when you’re buying a refrigerator, it is important to factor in long-term investment that manifests itself in the form of operating cost. In order to keep meet your budget, you may have to compromise on certain advanced built-in refrigerator features.
A standard single door refrigerator in UAE can cost between AED 900-4000, whereas heavy-duty models can extend up to AED 5000 and more.
3.           Defrost Mechanism:
Automatic defrost mechanism prevents formation of thick ice on the walls of the fridge. Unlike convection units that circulate cool air within the compartment, advanced appliances with self defrosting mechanisms distributes air evenly. This means that there will be no need to defrost your fridge manually every few months.
4.           Child-Lock
A safer choice for homes with kids and pets, a lot of newer models come with built-in child locks for extended security. The features a key and lock mechanism to ensure better protection against accidents. All you have to do is just lock the door, and open with the key whenever necessary.
Which Refrigerator Type Is The Most Appropriate For Your Home?
Now that the more practical features have been discussed, it is time to settle for a refrigerator type that is most suitable for you. Depending on the space available, you can pick a model that best fits your budget and capacity needs.
1.   Single Door Refrigerator:
Single door refrigerators are great for apartments and homes housing 1-2 persons. The smaller body easily fits within compact spaces, making a suitable storage unit for smaller homes.
With a built-in freezer next to a larger fridge compartment, these space-saving appliances are the go-to option for many homes. Although smaller in size, a single-door refrigerator has a reliable capacity of 150-300 liters.
2.           Double Door Refrigerator:
Double-door refrigerators come in two configurations; one with a top freezer and the other with bottom freezer. These appliances are great for bigger families having extended storage requirements. With a capacity of 230-420 liters, they offer a lot more space than single-door variations. The best part is, most of these appliances come with built-in frost-free system to avoid crystallization.
Although, they are larger in size, and thus, take up more space within home. The robust unit also takes a lot more energy than a smaller fridge, so keep these factors in mind while purchasing.
3.           French Door Refrigerator:
French door refrigerators are designed as a luxury variant - featuring a pantry-like layout - for a premium vibe. It also has two doors, but there is only one compartment inside. This way, there is more capacity to store, but less space covered.
The drawers at the bottom slide out to reveal freezer compartment with a defrost mechanism. This option is great for someone who’s willing to invest more on a high-end fridge that delivers excellent performance, as well as reliable aesthetics.
4.           Undercounter Refrigerators:
Undercounter types, as the name suggests, are compact enough to fit under a kitchen counter. This small refrigerator works as a built-in appliance, frequently found in offices, one-room rental apartments, and guest houses.
Most of them have a single fridge or freezer compartment, but some models integrate both. Specialized units for wine and beverages are great as a support unit for homes where there is need for extra space other than the main unit.
5.           Smart Fridge:
Smart appliances are compatible with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing you to control your device operations with your touch phones and other smart devices. These tech-efficient models are integrated with a range of unique features, for example, touch screens, voice recognition, speakers, and more. You can also add special instructions about temperature and storage for specific foods to achieve the best results.
6.           Side-By-Side Fridges:
Contrary to most refrigerator units, side by side refrigerators offer the same freezer and fridge capacity. It is also a dual-door variation that integrates more advanced features than standard one or two-door refrigerators.
Side by side variations may be a bit heavy on the pocket, but that is only because of their superior conservation efficiency, advanced features, and wider space.
How To Identify The Best Fridge Brands In UAE?
Consider the following factors when choosing a specific brand of your fridge. Remember, each brand has it own built-in features and special physical aspects that make it unique. Here are some ways you can choose the best brand for yourself.
1.   Check Their Warranty:
The warranty period and damage recovery is one of the factors that determine the credibility of a brand. Ideally, the longer the warranty, the better are your chances of getting initial small fixtures done with zero investment. Most brands offer a one-year warranty for parts that are vulnerable to wear and tears.
2.           Consider Brand Authority:
Brands retain their reputation by consistent delivery of quality products. This means that it is safest to opt for one that owns customer trust, and has positive consumer reveiws. This way, you won’t be compromising on the performance and features of your appliance.
3.           Identify Primary Features:
There are certain key features of brands that make them stand out. When you’re making a decision, look if they offer practical features like temperature controls, Energy Star certification, and slide-friendly drawers. A little bit of extra research goes a long way. It will make the maintenance and operating cost of your appliance a lot more manageable.
4.           See If Their Customer Service Is Reliable:
No matter how robust your home appliance or refrigerator is, it relies on regular maintenance to deliver optimal performance.  That is why, it is important to check if the brand you’ve settled for offers a reliable customer service. One way to check this is by talking to their customer representatives for purchasing advice before making a purchase. This will help you determine how speedy and competent their service is.
Choosing an ideal refrigerator for your home should not be overly taxing. However, it may require some research and consideration. The key is to stick your to your budget and look for physical and technical features that are most practical for you.
To explore your options, head over to Alisuq. Our refrigerator collection has a wide range of options in single-door, double door, and other fridge variations. Scroll away to find the ideal pick for your specific needs!

PROLOGUE | CHAPTER 1 | CHAPTER 2 | CHAPTER 3 | CHAPTER 4
Tumblr media
“Honeyyyyyyys…?” you call out in the house. Naturally, four handsome men come running.
“What’s happening?” Nash, in his jean shorts and Hawaiian themed shirt, asks you urgently.
“What’s happening is I am the worst mother ever!” you yell. Cue four sweet and simultaneous denials of your belief. “But I am—I can’t find the twins!”
How can someone lose two tiny babies? You had only looked away for thirty seconds and poof—Liberty and Belle were gone! They couldn’t even so much as crawl yet!
“Everyone, spread out,” a suspenders-wearing H.R. conducts the family, “they can’t have gone far.”
Harry moves closer to you to rub your back with small circles. “It’s going to be okay. You’re a wonderful mother. We just have a couple of troublemakers on our hands, it seems.”
You give a slight nod and begin to scour every place you haven’t already checked in the house. Everything is going to be fine, everything is going to be fine…
A pair of foreign giggles come from the closet by the alcove. How strange. You follow the sounds, and sometimes you’ll hear a “Shhhhh!” followed by more snickering. When you open the door to the closet, you’re entirely shocked to find two little girls who look to be five years old—one in overalls and the other in a dress.
“Libby, Libby, Libby! I told you to be quiet!” Belle scolds her sister.
“But your hair was tickling my face!” Liberty tries to explain.
Meanwhile, you’re still stunned to see your babies have grown in such a short amount of time. It really should be such a surprise considering the shortness of the pregnancy, but still!
You try to find your voice by beckoning your husbands. “I-I found them!”
“Hi, mommyyyyy,” they say in such adorable unison. Their perfect little faces look up at you and you feel like you’re staring into a mirror-time-portal. You crouch down and open your arms.
“I was so worried,” you tell the girls. “I thought I’d lost you.”
Sherloque, H.R., Harry, and Nash soon appear behind you and gawk at their rapidly aged daughters.
“How are they five?” H.R. whispers his question to no one and anyone.
“A very good question…” Sherloque, in his white trousers and blazers with a sharp purple shirt underneath, strokes his chin.
You wipe a tear from your eye and clear your throat. “Why don’t you two hooligans help your Pops with something in the garage?”
“You got it, dude!” Belle shoots you adorable finger guns before grabbing her sister’s and Nash’s hand. And then, in a flash, they’re gone. Indeed so quick that your voluminous hair flies every which way—books and papers suddenly strewn all over the house.
“Did Belle just…?” Harry starts to ask but falters.
“Run Mach one in my house? Yeah, I think she did…” you reply, figuratively and almost literally blown away. “Oh!”
H.R. holds your hand in comfort at the sound of your weepy noise. “What is it, Honey Bear?”
“I can’t believe it. I missed their first steps, their first words. So many firsts. They’re five!”
“There will be plenty more firsts that we won’t miss,” Harry soothes, “together.”
“If ma Belle ‘as the ability to run vitement,” Sherloque wonders to the rest of you, “what does this mean pour ma Liberté?”
This makes you think—remember things that you’d rather not remember. But, what if…?
You take quick strides towards the garage through the kitchen, your remaining husbands following closely behind. Peering out the window, you spot Liberty using her glowing purple hands to float a socket wrench over to Nash from his toolbox. His eyes are wide, but happily so, at the magic presented by his daughter.
“Little chips off the old block, aren’t they?” H.R. notes, putting an arm around your shoulders and Harry’s (the latter picks up and drops his doppelganger’s arm off of him).
“Yes, I suppose they are.” You sigh in contentment. “What do you three say to a little quiet time on the couch?”
The men don’t even need to voice their approval of the idea, only follow you devotedly out of the kitchen. Sherloque pulls up the rear but stops short at the refrigerator. The appliance is strangely already covered in artwork, with barely any free space available on the appliance. And then… there’s something else that sticks out amongst the vibrantly coloured scribbles.
He leans in a little closer to inspect a piece of paper. Sherloque notes the hurried scrawl of the letters:
You’re on a TV show. This isn’t real. We’re trying to help you.
The puzzled detective continues to analyze the strange message. What does this mean? he wonders.
He tries his best to remember what his life was like before he married you. What was life like? It takes every ounce of brainpower to attempt the recollection, but Sherloque unfortunately comes up short with answers.
Something he is both not known for and hates.
He checks around the room to see if anyone is watching him, but no one is in sight. Regardless of his lack of findings, he waves in the direction of one of the kitchen walls as if someone was watching. Sherloque then marches into the living room where you’re snuggled up with Harry and H.R.
“What is this?” he demands of you, flashing the note in front of your face. You, of course, have no idea and voice as such.
Harry snatches the piece of paper and proceeds to study it. “This is a joke, right?”
“I think someone must be playing a prank on you, my love,” you tell your suspicious French husband.
“And I think you are lying to us, ma petite,” he replies. Sherloque turns his attention to the other men on the couch. “Dites-moi, what is your earliest memory?”
Harry and H.R.’s foreheads scrunch in thought.
“The first thing I ever remember is showing up here for dinner a few nights ago,” H.R. says slowly. “But it feels much quicker than only a couple of nights…”
“And you, (Y/N),” Harry adds, “I feel like I’ve known you my entire life, and yet my first memory was the same as this jackwagon.”
“Aww, Harry, I feel like I’ve known you my entire life too,” you say sweetly. “All of you!”
Sherloque squints at you. “Stop that. You are hiding something. Eet is the way you swallow with difficulty and perspire. Aussi the tapping of your foot.”
“I am not hiding any-”
“-You lie!” Sherloque raises his voice. H.R. and Harry stand up from the couch and face you with crossed arms, pulling his blue plaid shirt tighter against his chest.
“Is it true?” H.R. asks you, looking ever so much like a puppy dog. It pains you to see him look so hurt. They both seem to take Sherloque’s word for it. And over yours?
“Is any of this real?” Harry finishes his opposite-self’s question, then points in the direction of the garage. “Are they real?”
“Of course our daughters are real!” you find yourself shouting at the notion otherwise. “They’re parts of us!”
“Then what have you done to our memories? You’re keeping secrets!”
At this point, Nash enters the room with Liberty and Belle, clearly not expecting an argument from their idyllic family unit. His hands on their shoulders. They must have heard the fighting…
“Listen,” you try calmly, “I did this for us. You don’t want to know what happened before our lives together here. You just don’t.”
“You do not get to choose for us,” Sherloque counters sternly.
The tension can be cut with a knife, and the proverbial knife that does the cutting comes in the form of a sound—the doorbell.
“Who is that, (Y/N)?” Harry asks you.
“I don’t know. That’s not me, I swear it,” you tell him, very much confused yourself. Each of your husbands stands with their arms still crossed, waiting. It hurts you to see them so upset with you. This was supposed to be perfect. This was supposed to be easy.
Your feet that feel like lead somehow manage to carry you over to the door. Twisting the doorknob, you open the door to reveal another extremely familiar face…
“How’s it hangin’, Miss (Y/L/N).”
What? No… It can’t be him?
Looking the epitome of cool—dressed in stone washed jeans, a yellow button-down shirt with a black leather jacket thrown over top—stands the man you never thought you’d see again. Especially in your own safe little world.
Eobard Thawne.
The man walks right in the house like he owns the place with an incredible amount of swagger.
“So, what’s a guy gotta do to get a drink around here?”

We score inside highlights remembering the kind of racks for the fridge cavity and on the entryways, the simplicity with which the cooler cabinet and bins could be opened, the nearness or nonattendance of crispers with stickiness controls and the nearness or nonappearance of a meat guardian or store cabinet with temperature controls. Completions: Stainless steel is the most famous on the grounds that it has a smooth yet-impartial look, yet some favor a white or dark ice chest (or the as of late mainstream dark hardened steel and even carbon fiber). Constructed ins regularly offer outside framing that coordinates your kitchen cupboards. Numerous advanced completions are unique mark safe. A few refrigerators additionally offer dampness controls on crisper drawers, meat or shop drawers, and different highlights for keeping nourishments at the ideal stockpiling temp.

You will remember things that we never said ch 2
Warnings: Drunkenness, smutty flirting,
Song mentioned: Vent by Hate Theory
ch 1   ch3   ch 4 ch 5  ch 6  ch 7
Tumblr media
Bella gets Stephanie up at one in the afternoon to go to brunch. Stephanie is groggy. She puts her hair in a bun and throws on some sweats with a little bit of make-up. Bella stays in her Shorts and Tank top pjs and grabs a sweatshirt before they leave the dorm. Bella follows her roommate blindly to the student union where many eateries are located. They go to the Coffee Palace first.
“Hey Albre,” Bella said to the counter person. “I’ll have my usual. What would you like Steph?”
Stephanie grumbles, “I don’t like coffee.”
“You will love this coffee.” Bella insisted. “Albre, give me two of my usual.”
Albre said, “No problem, babe.”
She hands the first cup to Stephanie. “It tastes like a snickers bar. You will love it.”
And this is how Stephanie’s caffeine, coffee addiction started. It was love at first sip. Her brain unclouded. Her senses awakened. It was smooth, sweet and chocolatey unlike the bitter flavor of her first drink of coffee years ago when she was thirteen. Bella introduced her to other flavors she liked through the years. But she often went back to this one Mocha nut that reminded her of good memories.
Stephanie and Bella sat across from each other sipping coffee. Bagels and cream cheese on their plates.
“Another tip from me to you.” Bella spread cream cheese on her bagel. “Bread is always best the night after.”
Stephanie laughs, “Alright, I’ll take your word on that. I am still a bit out of sorts from last night.”
“No,” Bella looks at Stephanie seriously.
“What?”, Stephanie looked at her confused.
“You know what,” Bella said. “I saw how you looked at him.”
“Him, who?”  Stephanie tried to comprehend what Bella was saying.
“Axel isn’t for you,” Bella insisted. “He’s a good enough guy but just, No.”
“Alright, Mom.” Stephanie laughed. “Other than telling me what or who’s not good for me, what else do you have going on today?”
“I guess I should read a few of my assignments before tonight.” Bella laughed. “Or I’ll just nap so I can go out tonight to Coperhead. You can join if you want.”
“Cool,” Stephanie said.
“He’s not playing,” Bella smirked.
Stephanie shrugged, “Is that supposed to matter?”
“I guess, not.” Bella laughed. “You have a car?”
“Yes,” Stephanie said.
“Then you’re designated driver buttercup.” Bella said. “The club is about an hour off campus. We are taking Albre and Ryan if that’s cool? You remember Ryan, the blonde with the Mom Tattoo on his wrist?”
“Yeah, cool.” Stephanie really didn’t remember Ryan at all.
Stephanie studied the rest of the day. Taking only a short break to microwave a cup of soup and go get a second coffee to keep her going. She closed the books at eight to get ready to go out. The thought crossed her mind that even though Axel’s band wasn’t playing maybe he would be there. She might just get the nerve to ask him to sit for her to draw him for class.
They pick up  Albre and Ryan. Bella got out and sat in the back seat with Albre. Ryan sat up front. Stephanie set her gps to the address given her and they were off on an adventure. Ryan talked about his classes and books he had read, and Stephanie thought he was nice since they did read some of the same books. Not her type for dating but you can never have to many friends which is something her Mom always said.  They get there about five minutes before the first band is supposed to play.
Todd is taking money at the door. He smiles at Stephanie. She smiles back and thanks him when he gives her change. When he smiles it’s like his whole face smiles including his blue eyes.  Bella sees Rick and a few others so Albre, Stephanie and Ryan follow her over to say hello.
Bella taps Rick on the should and he turns around, “What’s up buttercup?”
“Not much caterpillar.” he chuckles. “We go on in about five minutes.”
He looks to the others. Seeing Stephanie, he winks at her, “Hey pretty girl. How you doing?”
Bella shakes her head, “No, Rick.”
Stephanie smiled, “I’m fine thanks.”
“What Bella?” Rick keeps his eyes on Stephanie. “Ask around, one person said she’s a pretty girl and the rest of us agreed.”
Stephanie blushed which no one could really see in the darkened club. “Who said I was the pretty girl?”
Rick shrugs.
Mick yells, “Come on Rick we are going to need you to play tonight.”
Rick goes and hops up on the stage. Other than Light Bulb their music makes all hell break loose. The mosh pit gets so aggressive one of the big guys standing between Stephanie and the pit, picks her up and places her on top of a big speaker to sit.  Bella and Albre stay standing in front of the stage laughing every time they get knocked around a little.
Stephanie sees Axel and Todd standing against the wall opposite of her. She smiles as he catches her eye and nods not showing any emotion just slight acknowledgement. Axel says something in Todd’s ear. Rick comes over to play the bass right in front of Stephanie and she turns her attention towards him. The music more hardcore than Zeigeist, but everyone needs to Vent ,which is the name of the song being played. And Stephanie loved Rick giving her attention while others standing in the front row were practically begging with their eyes for him to come nearer.
Axel and Todd were gone when Stephanie glanced back across the room. Other bands played and Stephanie kept her spot on the speaker. Rick came over with two bottled waters and handed one to her.
“I heard you’re the designated driver tonight.” He said. “I can’t let the pretty girl driving one of my best friend’s home get dehydrated. I don’t think you are getting through this crowd to the bar any time soon either.”
Stephanie giggled, “Thanks Rick. Great set. People got crazy.”
“Yeah, that happens.” He said. “Glad you’re digging the music.”
Bella turns to them, “And what are you two discussssing” She slurs.
“Just how beautiful you are, babe.” He grabs ahold of Bella to help her balance.
“SSSuch a charmer,” She kisses his cheek.
“Stephanie you want to take this beauty queen home?” Bella lays on him her eyes barely slit open.
“We came with Ryan and Albre.” Stephanie pointed out.
“I’ll clear a path so you can get out with Bella.” Rick started yelling. “Out of my way. My girls need to get outside.”
The crowd magically parts like the red sea. Stephanie follows him. He is holding Bella upright. Stephanie gets Ryan and Albre’s attention to follow her. They make it out of the stale air to the fresh outdoors. Bella pukes in a trash can as Rick holds her hair back. It’s the kindest thing Stephanie ever saw a man do. Usually they are laughing at the drunk puking girl. Here everyone seems concerned. Someone brings out a ginger ale from the bar. When she feels good enough, they head home.
Stephanie drops Ryan at his door. Albre helps get Bella into her room. Stephanie gets Bella a ginger ale from their shared mini refrigerator.
Albre takes it when Stephanie goes to Bella’s bedroom door. “I’ll take care of her tonight Steph. Go ahead to bed. I’m used to sleeping with her when she is like this. I’ll keep her on her side and hold her hair if she pukes anymore tonight. But I think she will be out cold until tomorrow afternoon some time.”
Stephanie takes a shower and passes out in bed sometime around six in the morning. A few minutes after noon she wakes. Exhaustion has set into her body, but she knows she needs to get some more studying done. At this point she’s not going to be ahead.  She hopes to just get the coming weeks work done and maybe by mid-week start on next weeks work.
But first and four most coffee. Oh yes, a shot of expresso just for that extra kick she needs. And a bagel. She is going with the bread theory. She starts reading. Doodles on the sides of her paper as she takes notes. Makes an outline for a paper that is due in two weeks. And reads as she takes notes some more. The sun has set when her stomach finally growls loud enough for her to want to do something about it. Albre steps out of Bella’s bedroom at the same time Stephanie is headed out to grab dinner.
“How is she doing?” Stephanie asked.
“I got her to eat some bread this afternoon.” Albre said. “We have been studying. Now she is hangry (hungry/angry) so I’m going to get some burgers and fries.”
“Me to,” Said Stephanie. “I’ll walk with you.”
They chatted about the fun night before. Then parted ways when they got back to the dorm room that had two separate bedrooms with a shared lounge area. Albre was a nice girl with a small frame and short blonde hair. She had been dating  Bella for a year so knew how to deal with her hangovers.
Stephanie went back to studying as she ate. She must have been more tired than she thought. The next thing she knew her eight in the morning alarm was going off for her to get ready for class. She had it set extra early so she could get to class a few minutes before Axel to ask to paint him. She was nervous about it.
Stephanie was leaning on the wall by the class door when Axel got there. He looked blandly at her as she smiled.
“Can I ask you something?” She bit her lower lip unknowing of the effect it had on him.
He nodded yes and stepped away from the door. He leaned on the wall on her other side.
Stephanie turned to him, “Can I draw you? For our Art Project I mean.”
He sucked in a breath before answer, “Yeah, can I draw you?”
“What like one of your French girls?” Stephanie giggled.
Axel kept his face placid. “Yeah, if you want me to draw you naked that’s cool.”
Stephanie turned beat red, “How about just a regular portrait. I didn’t know if you would get the titanic reference.”
“I got it Stephanie,” He paused studying her for what seemed like to her a long time. “I’m done with classes at four this afternoon. Can I just come by your dorm?”
“Yeah, 121 Sethers tower.” She tried to breath normally, but she could hear her own breath and his since he was so close.
“Cool,” Axel cracked his neck as he turned to open the classroom door. Then he waited for Stephanie to go inside first before shutting it behind them. Even though class hadn’t started yet it seemed everyone looked at them when they came in. Stephanie scampered to the front of the class. Axel sat in the back as he always did.
Axel sat on the couch as Stephanie attempted to capture his soul on her paper. She had offered him a drink when he entered her dorm room. He held up a beer he had brought with him. He took a swig before setting it on the table. He had been very quiet for the last three or four minutes. So had Stephanie. He looked so intense just sitting there but she didn’t know how to break the silence. Bella had classes scheduled later in the day, so they were alone.
Axel clear his throat. “So, you a virgin?”
“No,” She barely glances at him trying to get some lines and shading how she wants them. He is making it very difficult to focus.
“How long have you been with your boyfriend.” His expression hasn’t changed since he walked in the room. But he is trying to gage if he can get with her any time soon. “Do you have good sex regularly?”
Stephanie throws the art tablet on the table almost knocking Axel’s beer over on it, but he grabs his beer and finishes it. “
“I had sex with my high school boyfriend,” Stephanie spit. “We had sex I guess you could say often but I still always finished myself off. Is that what you wanted to know?”
“So, he didn’t go down on you or help you cum in anyway?” Axel just kept his voice casual as he moved closer to her.
His hands brushed over her tense outer thighs making her gasp. “No,”
“No one has every made you cum even by sucking your clit until they can lick up all your juices,” Axel closes his eyes. “mmm...” He opens his eyes sliding his hand over her jeans where her slit lays close underneath. “Your ex-boyfriends sounds-like a real prick.”
She feels dampness between her legs. “Axel.”
“What Stephanie?” His phone buzzes. The doorknob turns. Axel gets up as he answers his phone. “What’s up?”
Bella comes in seeing them. “Oh, I didn’t realize you had company Steph. Put the do not disturb sign I put over on my door on the main door next time. I mean since you’re obviously not going to listen to my advice.”
Axel smirks at her as he listens to who called him.
Stephanie grabs the drawing she was working on to show to Bella, “I was just drawing him for a school project.”
“Ok,” She said but threw eye daggers at Axel.
“I’ll be there shortly Derick.” Axel said to the person on the phone. “I fucking lost track of time working on a project with a friend.” He hangs up. “Did I give you enough to finish Stephanie?”
“Um…” Stephanie wasn’t sure how to answer with the phasing of his question. And she was more than a little flustered.
“Can you finish the drawing I mean,” Axel said.
“Yes, you were great Axel.” Stephanie smiled.
He chuckled, “You haven’t experienced me being great yet.” Axel headed out the door. Bella rolled her eyes.
“Wait what about you drawing me?” Stephanie stood in the doorway. Axel only a few steps away.
“I have you right up here” Axel points to his forehead.  He turns to walk away with a big grin on his face knowing he made the impression he wanted.
Stephanie watches him. Bella shakes her head a few steps behind Stephanie.

One: From the Beginning
Present Day
As I sat on my front porch, I could feel the warm sun on my skin. I could smell the fresh clean air. The waves knocked against the rocky shoreline. And inside our beach house, I can hear my grandchildren chatting and laughing with their grandfather. His loud, boisterous laugh echoed throughout the entire house, reaching me outside the screen door. I chuckled to myself as my daughter, Angela, scoffed in amusement next to me with a glass of iced tea in her hands.
"They're just like him, Mami," she told me.
"They sure are, mija," I told her back. "So full of life, ambition, and laughter. It was one of the many reasons I fell for your father in the first place."
"Do you regret how you met Dad?" Angela asked me.
I turned to look at her and shook my head. "No Angie. Your father was the first man to ever make me feel like I was something. My husband at the time wasn't giving me the love and attention that I deserved. Yes, I felt bad that it was under those circumstances that I got together with your father but I don't regret it at all."
"The way Dad looks at you, Mami… it's just beautiful." Angela sighed. "He always has the biggest smile on his face whenever he's around you. Like you're his light or something."
I laughed. "Well he always tells me that he regretted letting me go the first time. And once we were married, he wasn't letting me go. And here we are, 30 years, a beautiful daughter and three grandchildren later, still together and still happy."
The screen door came open and my husband Alastor came out followed by our grandchildren, Alejandro "Alex" (21), Alaina (19), and Ariana "Raina" (16), still laughing. He turned to Angie and me with a raised eyebrow and his signature smile plastered on his face.
"So what are you ladies talking about?" he asked us curiously.
"You as always," I snorted.
"Aw, it's nice that you think about me," Alastor chuckled before kissing my cheek. "I couldn't have asked for a better family: a loving wife, a talented daughter, and…" he turned to give our grandkids a big group hug "these adorable gifts right here."
"Aren't we a little old for group hugs, abuelo?" Alex asked in embarrassment but accepted the hug anyway.
"In my eyes, my boy," Alastor started. "No you are not. Ask your mother, she knows."
Angela laughed. "Always such the charmer, Papi. It's no wonder you ended up with Mom."
Alastor smiled down at me lovingly. "I wouldn't choose anyone else I would rather be with other than your mother. She will always be the love of my life. Despite the way we got together." He said that last line with a wink.
"Speaking of which," Alaina asked. "How did you guys end up together?"
"Yeah," Raina retorted. "Abuela, how did you and Grandpa Alastor meet?"
Alastor and I looked at each other before turning to our daughter for a sign.
"I think they're old enough to be told the story," Angie said. "It was bound to come up sooner or later."
Alastor shrugged and I gave a small smile. "Well, my dears, it's a bit of a long story. A long, complicated story." I said. "I was still married at the time when I met your grandfather, but my husband at that time… well he wasn't good to me. He wasn't faithful, he was controlling, and I wasn't happy with him."
"So why did you stay, abuela?" Alex asked.
"Well, mijo, I thought I was in love with him," I answered honestly. "I thought if I was patient enough, then he would change his ways. I was a young, naive girl at that time who thought keeping him happy was more important than my own happiness. That is… until your grandfather came along."
"So you two were lovers?" Alaina mused. "Kinda intriguing."
Alastor chuckled. "That may be true, Alaina, but I didn't see your grandmother as my lover. She was more like… the one that got away. And I was willing to do anything to get her back. Even if it meant "stealing" her away from her husband. But to fully understand how we met, it's best that we start from the beginning."
***
Miami, Florida, 1993
"Ava! Get your ass up! I'm hungry!" Jason yelled.
I deeply sighed before I rolled over to check the time on my alarm clock: 9:13 a.m. I sat up in the queen sized bed inside our condominium and looked out the window. It was cloudy with peeks of sunshine seeping in through the bedroom window. I saw a bluebird sitting on the windowsill, its chirping a sweet melodic sound. I smiled at the bluebird before I heard a loud bang from the sound of our bedroom door opening. My husband Jason entered our bedroom with a grumpy look on his face.
"Ava, I said I was hungry! The fuck you still doing in bed?"
"I just woke up Jason," I deadpanned. "I just needed a moment to fully get myself together."
"Well get up, I'm hungry now. At least be good for something and make some breakfast. What kind of wife are you?" he grumbled before shutting the door.
"Good morning to you too," I whispered sadly.
I've been married to Jason Mitchell for a year now but we've been together for almost 5. And to be honest, it's been absolute hell. All he does is belittle me and tells me that I'm a an awful partner, despite him being the one who's been unfaithful to me ever since we were together. He's cheated on me with countless women, I would threaten to leave him, he apologizes saying he won't do it again, I end up taking him back, and yet this toxic cycle repeats itself. I don't know why I'm still with him honestly; maybe it's because a part of me is in love with him, maybe it's fear of being alone, who knows? But I don't know how much longer I can take his constant abuse, but in the meantime I'll just swallow my pride and continue to play "the good wife."
I did one final stretch before I went into the bathroom to freshen up. I washed my face and brushed my teeth then I took a look at myself in the mirror. My normally bouncy curly hair looks like a matted mess on top of my head, dark circles stained around my eyes, my normally radiant caramel skin appeared kinda pale under the fluorescent light. I was exhausted; both physically and mentally. But yet I put on makeup to hide the dark spots, brushed my hair into a neat bun, and got dressed to make a quick breakfast for Jason and me before heading to work.
In the kitchen, Jason sat at the table reading a newspaper when I walked in. I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before I went to the refrigerator and took out ingredients for eggs and French toast.
"'Bout time you got up," Jason scoffed. "I was starving in here."
"You know," I said. "You can always cook for yourself whenever I don't have time."
Jason gave a mocking laugh: "But then what will you be good for? You're the wife, you're supposed to cook and clean for the husband."
I rolled my eyes. "Times are changing honey. Women are allowed to work and have careers too."
"Whatever Ava," Jason grumbled. "Oh by the way, I'll be out late tonight so you don't have to wait up for me."
I froze after cracking an egg in the skillet. "I thought you said you were done 'staying out late'?"
"It's just for work, dear," Jason said. "Don't get your panties all twisted up."
Rage bubbled within me. I knew he was lying. The last time Jason "stayed out late," he smelled of perfume and had lipstick on his collar. I could feel tears form in my eyes, but I wouldn't let him see me cry.
"Why don't you stay home tonight?" I suggested. "We can order take out and cuddle on the couch like we used to."
Jason shook his head. "Can't babe. It's important. I promised them I would stay." He looked at me up and down before he spoke again. "Plus you don't look as appealing to cuddle with at the moment," he snorted.
I said nothing as I plated the food and gave one plate to him. Jason's eyes lit with glee upon seeing the food and began to scarf a forkful of eggs down his throat.
"I'm running late," I said lowly. "Lock up when you leave."
"Yeah okay," Jason said with a mouthful of food.
"I love you," I told him.
"Yeah you too."
I gave another sigh and grabbed my keys and jacket before heading out the door. My back rested against the door as I let a few years fall from my eyes, my breathing a bit ragged. I covered my mouth to stifle my sobs before I stood up straight and wiped my eyes.
Why can't I just leave him….
I regained my composure before I walked to my car and drove off to my job. One day I'll get back at Jason, I just wasn't sure when.

Killing Time 3/?
Detective Weaver/Belle French, Mature
Summary: A Woven Beauty Law & Order-ish AU. Written for Writer’s Month 2019.
Chapter Summary: Belle and Weaver go back to his place, but the immediate aftermath of her attack, and being in the home they shared, is a little more than either of them is prepared for.
Notes: For prompt #5 of Writer's Month: sound. Oh man. Y'all, I have such plans for this and I feel like I'll fail miserably at doing all of it. A couple new tags added: PTSD and Nightmares.
Warnings: Blood, non-graphic violence, injuries, PTSD, nightmares, and a host of other things. Please see AO3 for complete tags and warnings.
[AO3]  Previous: [1] [2]
The ride to their former shared residence was quiet, save for the patter of rain that had started to fall. Belle was uncharacteristically still. Usually she would fidget in the car, adjusting the air vents every few minutes, running her fingernail around the button for the window, or looking at her phone. Weaver stole a glance at her when they stopped at a light, his lips pressed in a tight, thin line. She was looking out the window, her face illuminated by a strange mix of red, green, and yellow lights from outside.
He wanted to say something, but he didn't know what was appropriate for the situation. Usually he was watching others deal with the aftermath of a violent crime, family members, victims, witnesses, all processing events differently and trying to make sense of what their lives were now. He preferred being part of catching the perpetrator, helping bring some measure of closure to a chapter most people wanted to forget. It was outside of the sticky, emotional mess, almost passive in a way compared to the turmoil that went on inside the people he watched. This was wholly different. This was Belle, and whether she wanted him to be or not, he felt he should be a far more active participant. They both knew from the outside the things that would and could happen, but it didn't necessarily prepare you for the experience.
He pulled the car over in the first available space on the block, and looked over at Belle.
“You're sure you want to stay here?” he asked, resting his hand on the gear shift. “I could take you to a hotel, or one of the department’s safe houses?”
Belle gave him a wry smile. “A Motel 6 by the airport? No thanks.”
He nodded in acquiescence and opened the car door. “Whatever the lady wants.”
Her smile was just a little bit sly, but it faded quickly as she stepped inside the old building. It was the first time she'd been back since Sabine helped her move out her, since she'd made their separation as final as it could be. It was strange how she still sometimes thought of the top floor loft as home, how her apartment seemed like only a place to sleep and not a sanctuary from the harsh reality of the city the way the place they shared had been. There was something about the brick and stone, the old beams and exposed ducting, that for all it's cool industrial vibe, made her feel warm and safe.
The old elevator had been refurbished recently, with a new set of proper sliding doors instead of the ancient iron gate that had to be manually opened and closed. She commented on it and Weaver shrugged, mumbling something about bloody building codes. They shared a brief, amused look that shifted as they came to a stop at the top floor.
Belle waited while he unlocked the door and the deadbolt, and punched in the PIN code to turn off the alarm. It was still her birthday month and day, judging by the familiar tones of the buttons, and it made her second guess whether any of this was a good idea.
She followed him inside, glancing around the space as he relocked the door, noting the little things that had changed. The pictures on the mantle were gone, which wasn't that surprising given that most of them were of the two of them, and he'd replaced the floor lamp by the recliner. The one that had been there before had a little adjustable reading light on the side she liked to use in the evenings when he was working late. It made sense why he wouldn't want it around anymore, too many memories of coming home to find her curled up in a blanket, an open book or her Kindle on her lap, asleep in its glow.
He'd carry her to bed so gently she almost never woke up.
Weaver took off his jacket and draped it over the back of one of the barstools that sat at the kitchen island. Most of the place was the same as when she left. He kept the same furniture, the same arrangement of everything. He didn’t need to wonder if she had noticed. Her eyes were moving around the room, taking it all in again, and he bit back a sigh.
"Hasn't changed much,” she said finally. It was as if he'd just removed the last bits of her from his life and carried on. Something about that made her chest tight, but she turned to see him watching and forced a smile.
He shrugged. "Are you hungry? Did you eat anything before...?"
He gestured towards her, and she shook her head. “No, that's actually what I was doing when he...” She she looked down briefly at her bloodied clothes and then shifted her eyes over his shoulder and into the kitchen. Her voice seemed far away when she spoke. “I was staring into the fridge trying to decide what sounded edible.”
“Leftover lo mein from Chang's or cold Hawaiian pizza from Mario's?”
He smirked when she looked at him, and she halfheartedly glared back. “It was lasagna from Mario’s if you must know.”
He raised his hands, lips still curved in a bemused smile. At least they could tease each other and avoid some of the awkward tension. “I stand corrected. So, no, you haven't eaten then. Do you want... some eggs?”
A soft sigh slipped out and she nodded. It was her old standby when nothing sounded good, or she didn't have the energy for anything else. Whenever she came home late, lost a case, or had a bad day, he would make her a big, fluffy plate of scrambled eggs. It was simple and somehow always one of the best things she'd ever tasted. That was probably because he made them just for her.
Somehow they were never quite the same when she had to make them herself.
Weaver moved around the island and took out a pan before moving to the refrigerator and pulling it open.
She could have sat down at the breakfast bar and watched him cook, just like old times, but she was covered almost head to toe in dried, crusted blood, some of it hers, some of it not. The thought made her cringe. “I'm gonna shower if that's okay?”
“Of course.” He swallowed and turned away from the fridge with a carton of eggs in his hand. “Two or three?”
Her teeth pulled at her lip for a moment before she answered, “Just two, please.”
She heard the rattle of the pan against the stovetop as she turned and walked to the bathroom.
The shower did Belle a world of good, even if halfway through she was nearly scared out of her skin by Weaver slipping in to leave her a shirt and a pair of shorts to wear.
She had completely forgotten about not having any clothes or toiletries in the chaos of the incident, the police, and the hospital. Fortunately, Weaver had kept some of the things she’d left behind like partial bottles of her shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, tucked away on the bottom shelf of the cabinet. She didn’t want to think about why.
He showered while she was eating, and for a little while, it felt like she’d gone back in time, as if the last two years were all a bad dream. Part of her wished that were true. It would be so easy to slip back into old habits, but she wasn’t sure if they could reclaim the comfort and ease with which they’d integrated into each others lives.
They were different people now, weren’t they?
Weaver came out of the bathroom a few minutes later, bare but for a towel around his waist, right as she was putting her plate in the sink. It nearly slipped from her hand, and the sharp clatter of the fork hitting the stainless steel, startled him and made him stop.
“All right?” he asked, gripping the top of the towel with one hand.
Belle nodded and looked down at her hands, feeling a warmth creep up the back of her neck. “Fine.”
He gave her a strange look before he went into the bedroom, and she blew out a breath. This was ridiculous. They’d seen each other naked more times than she could count, even fairly recently, and there was no reason either of them should feel ashamed or awkward. She knew she’d feel safer and probably sleep better knowing Ian was nearby, but the tension created by everything that had happened in the last few weeks was getting worse. Something needed to give, but for now there was nowhere else for her to go.
She ran a hand through her hair, hissing when she bumped her stitches, and busied herself with cleaning the dishes until Weaver was done getting dressed. He came out of the bedroom in gym shorts and a t-shirt, and carrying a blanket and a pillow. He droppe them on the sofa as he crossed the room.
“I’ll take the couch,” he said, coming around the end of the island. “And the dishes.” He bumped her shoulder with his until she stepped aside and picked up the sponge shed been using. “Go rest.”
She put her hands on her hips and frowned. “Ian...”
Pausing, he looked up from the dish in his hand with raised eyebrows. “This is not a discussion, Belle. You’ve been through a lot tonight, and you’re going to go through a lot more in the next few days. You need sleep.”
Her shoulders sagged, knowing he was right, but still too stubborn to admit complete defeat. “Fine, but I’m taking the couch.”
He set the plate in the drying rack and threw the sponge into the sink, splattering water and suds. “The hell you are.”
“I’m not kicking you out of your bed,” she insisted, folding her arms.
He wanted to scream at her that it was her bed too, or at least it had been once upon a time, but that seemed like it would only provoke another fight. It was strange enough to have her here again, he didn’t want to make it worse by dredging up a past she was already well aware of. Sighing, he picked up the sponge and wrung it out as he spoke.
“You don’t feel it now because of the pain meds,” he said, “but tomorrow you’ll think you were hit by a truck. It’ll be ten times worse if you spend the night on a sofa.”
Belle’s eyes narrowed and they stared at each other for a few seconds over the span of the counter, until she sighed and shook her head. “Fine. But if your back is trashed in the morning, I don’t want to hear any whining.”
Weaver gave her a crooked smile. “I’ve slept on that couch plenty of times, I’ll be fine.” Then he dried off his hands and came over to her, holding her gently by the arms. “Please. Get some rest.”
She hated how soft his voice was in these moments, and stepped back, shrugging off his touch. “Yeah, okay.”
Then she crossed the room to the bedroom door, stopping with her hand on the knob. She looked back at him, giving him a wan smile. “Thanks.”
He shrugged, his eyes wide and soft. “You’re always welcome, Belle.”
A short nod was her only reply before she slipped into the bedroom and shut the door.
It took Weaver ages to get settled on the sofa.
His body was exhausted, but his mind wouldn’t shut off. He finished cleaning up the kitchen and then called Rogers to find out the status of the manhunt, which was that there was no status at all. The rain had turned to an outright storm, and that combined with the fact that it was nearly midnight was making a proper search slow going. All the area hospitals were on alert, as were the ones in Seattle, and for the time being the news media were on a forty-eight hour blackout where ADA French was concerned. Seattle PD had sent as many spare men as they could, but the Chief of Hyperion Heights Police, Albert Spencer, was ready to call in the FBI and hand it all off to them. Of course that had set off Captain Humbert, and Spencer had ordered him to go home. To top it all off, Belle and he were both officially removed from the case and two squad cars were now parked outside his building as a precaution.
Everything was turning into a total shit show.
He sighed again and shifted, turning onto his back and readjusting the blanket. Outside, the thunder rumbled along, and the wind slapped the rain harder against the windows. Any other time it would be a calming, welcoming white noise, but all it was doing tonight was making him ansty. He hoped Belle was having better luck getting to sleep.
A few minutes later, just as he’d given up on falling asleep anytime soon, and started playing a new game of Angry Birds on his phone, there was a crashing sound from the bedroom. He sat up quickly, dropping his phone on the floor, and tossed the blanket aside. That was immediately followed by a noise he couldn’t make out, and a scream that terrified him to his core.
The bedroom door flung open, banging against the metal stop as Weaver charged into the room.
Belle thrashed in the sheets, kicking at them haphazardly and pushing them towards the foot of the bed. “Get off me!”
Weaver hesitated for a moment, knowing she was in the throws of what appeared to be a violent nightmare, but unsure of how to approach her. The clock on the nightstand was on the floor, unplugged, which explained the crash he'd heard, and the lamp would be next if he didn't calm her down.
“Belle!” he called out, coming to stand at the end of the bed.
She cried out again and rolled over, slamming her fist down on the pillow. “No no no!”
He hurried to her side, and grabbed at her wrists when she whipped her body around again. “Belle, stop! You need to wake up!” She pushed at him roughly, and he let go, nearly taking a right hook to his jaw as he tried to back away. “Belle!”
As quickly as it had started, it stopped, and she blinked up at him, her eyes wide and wet. She looked like a frightened child, and something constricted in his chest. This was part of what he'd been afraid of, what he'd seen others go through too many times.
Belle stared up at Weaver, trying to make sense of what was happening. There’d been someone else there just a second ago, but now Weaver was here instead? She'd been in her apartment, in the kitchen, except this was not her apartment or her bed. Her eyes drifted down, expecting to see blood, but her skin was clean. A dream? Slowly her mind filled in the blanks as she pushed herself up to sit, and groaned.
“Shit, sorry,” she said, her hands covering her face as she sucked in a breath through her nose. Her heart was thumping as loud in her ears as the thunder outside. “Fuck.”
“It’s okay.” He sat down on the edge of the bed leaving a careful distance between them. “Are you all right?”
She dropped her hands and pressed her lips together. “I'm fine, yeah. Did I hit you?”
One shoulder shrugged. “Nah, too slow.”
Her mouth curved as did his, and she punched lightly at his shoulder. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay, really,” he insisted, shifting closer. “But you didn’t answer my question. Are you sure you’re okay?”
Belle nodded and pushed her hair back. “Yeah, yeah. I don’t even know what -” She stopped and looked around the room, dimly lit by the light coming from the living room. “It’s all fuzzy now.”
“Probably best that way.”
She sniffled again and looked down at her hands laying in her lap. There was still some dried blood stuck under her right thumbnail and she picked at it with the thumb on the other hand. “Yeah.”
He ducked his head, trying to get a look at her face. “Do you want some water?” Her hair sway as she shook her head. “Should I leave the door open, or turn on a light, or -?”
“No,” she said lifting her head. “No, I’m -”
She licked her lips and took a breath as she reached for the hand he had braced on the bed between them. He let her take it, and wrapped his warm palm over her lightly chilled fingers, holding them carefully. She shivered, her eyes falling closed for a moment.
“Would you, um - would you do me a favor?”
Weaver gave her hand a gentle squeeze, much the same as she’d done for him in the hospital. “Anything.”
That single word from him made her wonder whether she had any fucking clue what she was really asking.
“Would you...stay with me?”

Coffee Maker Buying Guide
Ah, coffee. It’s the preferred morning beverage for so many people and many of us can’t quite get our day started without it. Sure, coffee shops are ubiquitous, but there’s something to be said for having that first cup at home, perhaps still in pajamas, and without having to stand in line or speak coherently to other people. Even better, when you’re brewing your own, you can use exactly the beans you like, add flavorings or leave it plain, and add exactly the right amounts of milk, cream, or sweeteners. And it can be in your favorite mug instead of a disposable paper cup with an annoying lid. Plus, making coffee at home saves you a bundle.
No matter which coffee maker you choose, the basic concept is the same—ground coffee meets water, which extracts the flavor from the beans. The water drains through the beans which are held in a filter, so grit-free coffee is delivered to cup, mug, or carafe. While the process seems simple, different coffee makers can produce different results. The temperature of the water affects the flavors extracted from the ground beans, while the time the water is in contact with the beans can affect the strength of the brew. Some coffee makers use special techniques for stirring or agitating the grounds, while others shower the water over the grounds rather than sending it in a stream.
Coffee makers come in a variety of configurations, from non-electric pour-over models to electric drip coffee makers, to cup or capsule machines that make one cup at a time, to espresso machines. Cold brew coffee makers are a unique category since they use cold water to make either a coffee concentrate or they can produce a less concentrated version that’s ready to drink as-is. Prices can range from under $20 for the most simple units to several thousand dollars for high-end espresso machines.
What to Look for in a Coffee Maker?
There is a lot to consider when purchasing a coffee maker but most decisions have to deal with preference, cost, and convenience.
Convenience: Do you want a nearly hands-off coffee making experience in the morning, do you want the coffee waiting for you when you wake up or is the ritual of brewing coffee something you look forward to? A programmable electric coffee maker can have your coffee ready for you when you wake up. Less automated electric machines might require a little more attention, but still, operate with the push of a few buttons. Manual pour-over coffee makers—like French press brewers and stovetop espresso pots—all require your full attention for that perfect cup. While pod machines work well for households that all prefer a different type of coffee and not in large quantities.
Type of Coffee: While coffee makers and espresso machines tend to be separate machines, hybrid machines that brew both types of coffee are also available. Having two machines on the counter will take a lot of space, but it’s the best option if you love both coffee and espresso and want to make each perfectly. Hybrid machines will take less space and are likely to cost less than the purchase of two separate machines, but they may not be the best choice if you’re looking for the highest quality of both coffee and espresso. Pod machines often have espresso type drink option but they aren't the most authentic so if you like traditional espresso or cappuccino it's best to skip these.
Brew Size: From a single cup to a family-sized carafe, there are coffee makers that can brew just the amount you need. Some machines offer a rather wide range of brew sizes, while others are restricted to a much narrower range of options. Single-cup brewers are great for people who live alone or where each person prefers a different flavor or style of coffee. They’re also great for households where everyone wakes at a different time. Brewers that make larger quantities are great for people who love lots of coffee, and for family breakfasts, brunch with the neighbors, or dinner parties where coffee is served. Large brewers are often labeled10 to 12 cups but just be warned a "cup" of coffee in a machine is only 5 to 6 ozs, not 8 or 16! For large parties, you can even find commercial-sized brewers that can brew enough coffee for small events.
Timing: If your household drinks coffee throughout the day you might want to opt for a coffee maker that has a thermal carafe that will keep the coffee piping hot no matter the time of day. For those that just drink java in the morning a glass brewer with a warming plate should suffice, but some people don't like the burnt taste the warmers can cause if left on there for too long. For families that are running out the door in the morning, a pod machine can get you a quick cup with no need to worry if you left the machine on.
Sizing: While the size of a machine won't affect your cup of joe, if the machine doesn't fit in the space it is designated for it it can cause a bunch of headaches. Be sure to measure accurately and account for if you need to open the top of the machine to add water and grounds. For single serve machines consider your mug sizes. Many larger mugs won't fit under the brewer.
Custom Brewing Options: The most basic machines have virtually no options aside from adding more or fewer coffee grounds or water, while more complicated machines let you choose water temperature, brew strength, and a wide variety of brew sizes. Cup and capsule machines offer options for making hot chocolate, tea, and more. In general, simple machines are less expensive and are likely to be easier to use since you can’t accidentally choose the wrong option.
Extra Features: Some machines go beyond brewing options, and include options for programmed brewing at a specific time, keep-warm or auto-shutoff, or a thermal carafe to keep the coffee warm. Some include audible alerts when the coffee is done brewing, and most of the electric models have lights that signify when the brewer is on or when the coffee is done. Higher end machines might include features like milk frothing, bean grinding, and notifications when the machine needs to be cleaned. Espresso machines and hybrid coffee/espresso brewers tend to offer the most options, and they also come with the highest price tags.
What Is the Best Coffee Maker for Me?
Non-Electric Brewers
While electric coffee makers offer convenience, they also tend to take up permanent countertop space. Non-electric brewers, including French press, pour-over, and stovetop espresso pots have a much smaller footprint in use and can be stored in a cabinet when they’re not needed. Pour-over and French press machines require hot water, so you’ll need to boil that in a separate pot on the stove or have an electric teakettle standing by with hot water, while stovetop espresso pots boil and brew right in the pot. While all of these are simple to use, they also require your attention to make the coffee properly, so you won’t wake up to already-brewed coffee. But many coffee aficionados prefer the taste of French press coffee to electric drip ones.
Electric Drip Coffee Makers
Drip coffee makers are simple to use and let you choose your own beans, whether you prefer to grind your own or buy pre-ground. You can brew plain, flavored or decaf coffee or mix your own favorite blend, and you can add more or fewer grounds to adjust the strength of the brew. While many drip coffee makers are simple units with just an on/off switch that heats the water and sends it through the grounds, there is a whole range of more complex machines that have a long list of features, options, and adjustments that let you brew your coffee exactly the way you like it.
Single-Serve Machines
Single-cup machines that use capsules or cups are among the easiest to use since you don’t have to fuss with messy coffee grounds. To use them, you simply insert the cup (or capsule) and brew. Some machines can read the information on the cup and set a custom temperature, while others let you choose your own temperature and cup size. The most basic machines use the same temperature for every brew, while possibly allowing you to adjust the cup size. While cup and capsule machines are simple to use, they create more packaging waste per cup of coffee. Most cup and capsule machines require the use of proprietary supplies, but you can also purchase a special cup buy separate manufacturers that let you use your own blend of grounds.
Espresso Machines
Dedicated espresso machines range from inexpensive to super-high-end, to fit any espresso drinkers needs. They also come in a variety of styles, from stovetop models to pod machines, to those that use ground beans. Whether you want an occasional cup of espresso as a treat or it’s your favorite version of coffee, there is probably a machine that will fit your kitchen and your lifestyle. While the best espresso machines are dedicated to making just espresso, there are also hybrid machines that can brew both regular coffee and espresso. While these are not usually the best espresso machines, you won’t need two separate machines for your coffee needs.
Cold Brew Coffee Makers
Cold brew is a different category of coffee brewing since it uses cold water, and sometimes even ice water, to extract flavor from the ground beans. Most of these require a long steeping time, up to 24 hours, to produce the cold brewed coffee. When using less coffee and more water, cold coffee brewers can produce coffee that’s ready to drink as-is, either cold or heated, or you can use more coffee to create a concentrate that can be added to hot water or poured over ice. The advantage to cold brewed coffee is that it’s less acidic and tastes less bitter than conventionally brewed coffee. The downside to cold brew is the long steeping time. You need to plan well ahead of time for your coffee. However, you can brew it in large enough quantities to refrigerate it to be used over several days to two weeks depending on the strength.
Leading Manufacturers
Bunn: The Bunn name might sound familiar even if you’ve never owned one of their coffee makers because it’s a very common brand in restaurants. There’s a good chance you’ve seen a commercial Bunn coffee maker in your favorite diner, and you know how good that coffee can be. Bunn also makes coffee makers for homes, with the same quality and some of the same features as their commercial counterparts. If you drink a lot of coffee, they even make brewers that keep the water hot at all times, so your next pot of coffee will be ready almost instantly.
Mr. Coffee: Best known for its simple electric drip coffee makers, Mr. Coffee has been used in home kitchens for generations. Now, they’ve branched out into other types of coffee makers, but the bulk of their models are still electric drip models. From super-simple models with an on/off switch to those with options that will let you schedule your coffee ahead of time, Mr. Coffee has it all and is generally a solid performer at an affordable price.
Ninja: Known for its unique blenders, Ninja has taken its innovative approach into the word of coffee, with brewers that are just as mold-breaking as the blenders. Their brewers tend to offer greater ranges for brew sizes, and well as multiple options for different coffee styles. If you like custom coffee, this is a brand that’s worth a close look.
Cuisinart: Best known for its food processors, the Cuisinart company has expanded its product line to most types of kitchen electrics, including some coffee makers that have gotten great reviews and high ratings from users. These are quality-built machines, mostly in the mid-price range. If you’re looking for a solidly built coffee maker that won’t break the bank, this brand won’t disappoint.
Breville: On the high-priced end for coffee makers, Breville offers solidly-built quality products that look classy and work well. They also make several models of espresso machines from affordable to higher-priced models. On the coffee machines, you’ll find features like precise temperature controls and a pour-over option, while the espresso machines have all the bells and whistles you’d expect.
Bodum: This brand is possibly best known for its wide array of French press coffee makers. They also make attractive pour over coffee makers as well as a stovetop vacuum coffee maker and an electric drip machine. If you’re looking for a French press coffee maker, Bodum is likely to have on in the size and material you’re looking for.
Chemex: First introduced in 1941, the Chemex coffee maker is simple, elegant, and functional. When introduced, most coffee at home was made in a percolator, while the Chemex was a pour-over design. While it didn’t take the coffee world by storm then, it is still a favorite among coffee drinkers who prefer pour-over, and the design remains attractive and timeless.
Keurig: One of the pioneers of single-cup coffee systems, Keurig coffeemakers use the proprietary K-Cups to make a wide variety drinks including coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The K-Cups are widely available in grocery stores, with even more available online. While the Keurig models made by the company are usually designed to use only the K-Cups, there are some coffee makers that can also use adapters for your own favorite ground coffee.
Accessories
While coffee makers don’t typically come with a lot of accessories, they're a few things you might want to consider. A coffee scoop will help you measure the right amount of coffee to the number of cups you are brewing. A permanent filter in a machine eliminates the need for paper filters which can be a pain to keep in stock. Some machines come with this but you can buy them separately if you choose. And if you want the freshest tasting coffee it is always wise to grind your own beans at home, so if your machine doesn't have a grinder you might want to invest in your own coffee grinder.
Warranties
Warranties vary by brand and model, with some carrying a simple 30-day warranty, while others have a one-year parts-and-labor warranty. Two- or three-year limited warranties which only cover manufacturer’s defects are also quite common.
