A historic meeting coincides with launch of new Black Sea 'Accelerator'
Tumblr media
As part of our DOORS General Assembly at KTU, we were able to arrange a historical meeting with our sister project, BRIDGE-BS who stopped to meet us in Trabzon Port as part of their research cruise. It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with old friends, make new ones and receive a guided tour of the BILIM-2 Research Vessel that was built in 1983 (40 years ago) and is sailing under the flag of Turkiye.
Two EU projects dedicated to the Black Sea
Both DOORS and BRIDGE-BS are working to transform the Black Sea Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda into a working reality. In DOORS, our primary objective is based around improving the research infrastructure of the region through our state-of-the-art System of Systems (SoS) platform. The SoS will provide in situ Earth Observation (EO) and modelling data, at a level of detail and immediacy the region has never seen before. This, in turn, will provide the knowledge to improve the physical environment and the foundation to stimulate Blue Economy opportunities that benefit all of society.

Meanwhile, BRIDGE-BS's focus is on developing Black Sea ecosystem services against the background of various multistressors arising from anthropogenic and climate change impacts. As a semi-enclosed basin with 10 large rivers flowing into it, the Black Sea is subject to many anthropogenically generated nutrients and pollutants which has made it the largest anoxic water body on earth, where below 150-200m depths there is not enough oxygen to support marine life. The ecosystem is also unique in being increasingly susceptible to negative impacts from several human-induced stressors, such as eutrophication and hypoxia, overfishing, and the introduction of alien species. BRIDGE-BS will be delivering a series of tools and capabilities to better understand the changes happening in our environment and in turn, find a pathway for a sustainable Blue Economy to flourish.

Launch of Black Sea Accelerator
Our meeting on board the BILIM-2 was especially timely and symbolic since we have just launched a joint accelerator initiative; a series of activities and services designed to scale sustainable businesses operating in the Black Sea Blue Economy. We'll be offering market analysis, host pitching and matchmaking events, linking science to business opportunities. Here are some of the services DOORS will be offering to start-ups / SME's:
Tailored training/mentoring of entrepreneurs, to bridge the gap between skills’ offer and demand, regarding Innovation & Research developments;
Creation of a small-scale apprenticeship programme giving the opportunity for two entrepreneurs in each Black Sea country to work with a mentor in an established company/organisation for a short period of time;
Support for start-ups to reach investors by providing consultancy for developing business plans (in the context of planned, online sessions with expert evaluators giving feedback for improvement);
networking support and advice on how to exploit funding opportunities with potential investors such as how to prepare a 'winning' investment presentation;
Provision of expert advice to exploit funding;
Create an innovation and matchmaking digital platform for marine and maritime blue economy activities;
Facilitate access to funding: We will set up a Black Sea Special Interest Group (SIG) whose membership will be drawn from influential, mutually-minded individuals with a business, media or philanthropic interest in seeking solutions to address human and climate change impacts on damaged ecosystems.

Silly context behind this doodle:
Months before, Bell, as a courtesy between colleagues/friends, casually invited him to their cousin's wedding at babushka's behest/pestering after a phonecall from home. But the cryptographer definitely wasn't expecting that he would actually show up during the wedding ceremony since he was supposed to be in Switzerland that day doing important evil villain stuff >:)
So, with Perseus stuck by their side for the whole extended weekend at their home, Bell gladly assumed the role of a gracious host slash tour guide for their dear friend/boss/coworker and brought him along for a little hunting trip, watching the sunset on a hill peak, dipping their toes in a cold lake, jamming sessions by the campfire & stuff him to near death with babushka's cooking.
you know, just platonic pals doing sleepover stuff
idk where im going with this, i just love making villains doing mundane stuff and them having normal lives outside of their despicable vocation

Atatürk Mansion was built as a summer pavilion by Konstantin Kabayanitis in a small pine grove on the ridge of Soğuksu dominating Trabzon in the early 19th century. The four-storey building with the Western Renaissance influences was built out of stone and built in an Art Nouveau style with its elegant decorations and curves. The colorful flowers in the garden, surrounded by a beautiful landscape architecture, further enhance the beautiful structure. Konstantin Kabayanitis is subject to forced migration in accordance with the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 and goes to his own country, namely Greece.
7 km. Located in south-west, on the hill of Soğuksu, Atatürk’s Mansion is a symbol of the city. The pavilion was built by a Greek named Konstantin Kabayanidis in 1903 and became the headquarters of the Russians during the occupation of 1916-1918. After the proclamation of the Republic, he came to Trabzon on the morning of September 15, 1924 at 11:00 in the scope of the great homeland trip of Atatürk by the name of Autumn Trip. Ataturk was greeted with enthusiasm by the people of Trabzon. Atatürk first visited the Municipality, and the pavilion in Soğuksu in the afternoon was laid and rested. When Atatürk honored Trabzon for the first time on September 15-17, 1924, he and his wife Latife Hanim and his close friends stayed in the mansion organized as Trabzon Museum.
Atatürk Mansion was the property of the Special Administration after the proclamation of the Republic. Nowadays, it has a lovely pool in its garden, surrounded by pine trees, with a beautiful sea view, looks like a cotton-white building. The pavilion with four floors, the interior facade and the tiles were designed with the technique of Bağdadi. Tiles are used in floors and the ceilings are made of empirical plaster. The water and heat installation is furnished with the advanced technology of the time. On the lower floor of the building there is a small bath with winding heating system. There are a hall in the middle of the first floor and several rooms arranged around it. On Monday, September 15, 1924, on the wall in the middle of the hall with a billiard, the feast was given to Atatürk Municipality by the Mayor Kazazoğlu Hüseyin Efendi. In addition, pictures of Atatürk’s arrival in Trabzon were exhibited. In the guest room, amphitheater seating sets, china vases and figurines were exhibited in a showcase. In other rooms there are dining sets, an old radio, original etejerler, crystal and antique dinnerware porcelain in the kitchen. On the second floor there is a wooden staircase, rooms for the guard, a bathroom and a bedroom. In the bedroom, there are flags that symbolize the Turkish states in history with a bed, a study table and a map that Atatürk had laid.
After the proclamation of the Republic, the property of the mansion has been turned into a treasure and was given to him during his visit to Trabzon on September 15, 1924. During his visits to Trabzon in 1930 and 1937, Atatürk stayed at the Atatürk Kiosk and wrote a part of his will. Atatürk in Trabzon’s Mansion in his nation, saying: “Human beings should be in a spiritual personality. Property and property give me weight. I am relieved to give them to my nation. Dolayı For an unknown reason, the Köşk in Soğuksu is not on the list of the gifts which are presented to the Turkish nation. After the death of Atatürk, the Kiosk was transferred to Makbule Boysan by his legal successor, brother of the Civil Law Court of Ankara dated 7.12.1938 and numbered 938/2509 and numbered 1627. The acquisition of the mansion from the Municipality of Trabzon by Makbule Boysan in order to be transformed into a museum was carried out with the decision of Law No. 476/284 dated 6.8.1942 of the Trabzon Law Court. 10.000 TL was paid to the Ziraat Bank on behalf of Makbule Boysan with a receipt of 673 dated 30.3.1943.
On the evening of his visit to Trabzon, in the lower floor of the Mansion, Mayor of Trabzon Kazazoğlu Hüseyin gave a speech in honor of Atatürk. In response to this speech, Atatürk said, “Lord, I saw almost all the people of Trabzon as a mass of intimacy. I have seen ages in the eyes of women, children and elders. said and thanked the people of Trabzon.
In addition, Atatürk orders the suppression of the Dersim Rebellion during his stay in the Mansion, and not only does it follow with the order, but he also tickers what to do on the map. You can still see those signs on the map at the Atatürk Mansion.
After the death of Atatürk, the Municipality of Trabzon nationalized the mansion and decided to open the Atatürk mansion from 1964 to the Atatürk Museum. Atatürk’s objects and photographs are on display. The small hall on the right is equipped with photographs of Atatürk’s life and visits to Trabzon. In the adjoining room there are sofas and armchairs where Atatürk rests. The other room is furnished as a dining hall. In the museum, furniture, porcelain, carpets, etc. belong to the end of 19th century and 20th century. There are 344 ethnographic paintings consisting of paintings belonging to Atatürk and Atatürk. On the third floor of the pavilion, there is a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, a study hall allocated to Atatürk.
Today, Atatürk Mansion is known as one of the most beautiful houses of Trabzon with its flowered garden and it is open to visitors until 19:00, 7 days a week. Atatürk as a piece of respect for both respect and visit this unique beauty of your personal vehicle outside the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Pavillion Buses and taxis can provide. We recommend you to visit this mansion during the Trabzon tour.
The entrance fee for Trabzon Atatürk Mansion, which is 8-10 minutes away from the city center by car, is 5TL as of 2017. Trabzon Atatürk Mansion entrance hours Winter days between October 15 – April 15 between the hours of 08:00 – 17:00 hours you can visit. With the start of the tourism season between April 15 – October 15 between the hours of 08:00 – 19:00 is possible to visit.
On Monday, September 15, 1924, at the banquet given to Gazi Mustafa Kemal in Trabzon Municipality, the answer of Atatürk was answered by the Mayor Kazazoğlu Hussein;
I feel very pleased that I was in a table in Trabzon with the people of Trabzon and Trabzon. Especially thanks to the fervent future they have made today, due to the serious assets and neglect of the gentiles of the people of Trabzon amalidin heart that I know the task of adhali to address the opportunity to have an opportunity to see the İzhare. Gentlemen; I saw almost all the people of Trabzon in a monolithic mass of intimacy. I have seen ages in the eyes of women, children, elders. What a difference, what kind of compassion, this is what a high morality. I have to admit that the ideas and observations that I have made about this precious country and the venerable people of my observations have not been able to provide any means to this day. You can be sure that visiting Trabzonu and venerable people of Trabzon has been a desire for us for many years. It was the ahval who had deprived me of this pleasure and the martyrdom. Today I was very mesudum; because I have prevented me from seeing my beloved was removed from the camellia camila. I would very much wish to see the desire to see me with the telegrams of Trabzon mülhakatın and mülhakat with the visit of the people of honor. But it will not be possible to allocate so much time. Unfortunately, I am obliged to honor them with honor and greetings. Friends, five years ago for the first time when I set foot in Samsana giving me a strong heart in the first line of my hero, I will never forget that there are heroines. The precious memory of the sons of the children of Trabzon, who grew up with the third clause of Sakarya melhamei kübrası, will always remain in my mind. The demand and threats of this patriotic people to make this precious country, a heroic penitentiary or an imaginary country of pontus, possessed those heroic sons; No doubt the host has been ilelebed in this sed dream. Gentlemen; Our Revolution, which provides the nationality, liberty and independence of the homeland, provides our Republic with the Republican administration, and will provide our economic welfare and bliss in the civilization world. This feyyaz, zalisi intelligent, enterprising, hard-working Trabzon with the inclusion of a small time, including beautiful dock and harbor equipped with nuhbei amalim. Trabzon; In the Turkish community, the rich, kavi, sensitive yekkalbe of the republic is one of the heaths of retention. Of course, such a republic of the Republic will be the host of all the interrogations he has requested. When I finally give my words, I would like to thank the kindnesses of the gracious Trabzonites and thank you for the sincere and sincere sympathy of their respects.

Best 10 Places to Visit
Istanbul
Nearly all Turkey itineraries begin in Istanbul. It’s this city that straddles two continents at once. The Bosphorus Strait acts like a continental border, splitting the city into two halves Napa wineries European and Asian. This city is the center of the country’s film and television industry, which is why many telenovelas, including Kuzey Guney, are not only shot but also set here. When here, make sure you visit the Ottoman Topkapi Palace, the beautiful Hagia Sophia with its intricate mosaics, and the underground Basilica Cistern. Shop until you drop at the Grand Bazaar, take a cruise down the Bosphorus, say a prayer at the Blue Mosque and soak in the cityscape from the Galata tower.
Ankara
Turkey’s capital and second-largest city, Ankara, is a quieter version of Istanbul. Buğra Gülsoy, who plays Guney in Kuzey Guney, was born here. He is among many celebrities who call this city home.The city has all the fine-tuning that come with being a diplomatic seat of power; however, it never bores its visitors. Here, you can visit the Anıtkabir, which is the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of Turkey. It is no wonder why this structure dominates the city’s skyline. For panoramic views of the city, head to the Ankara Citadel located in the Ulus Bentderesi District of the Old Quarter. While you are here, go for a walk on the cobblestone alleys of the quarter and take in the quaint Ottoman houses. At the other end of the spectrum is Kizilay Square, filled with buzzing cafes and restaurants.
Bodrum
The star of the Turkish Riviera, Bodrum, is a world-famous getaway for beach lovers. The city sits by the Aegean Sea and offers a fun Mediterranean vibe to visitors. This is the best spot to explore the underwater world first-hand with several diving schools that will first train and then take you on guided deep-sea diving tours. You may take a break from that at one of the seaside cafes or explore the colorful streets of the old market! Kas also offers a dose of history in the form of ancient sites like Antiphellos Theatre.
Trabzon
Trabzon offers two-in-one fun: it’s located by the Black Sea in north-eastern Turkey and has the Pontic Mountains pass through it; this creates a hill station-like ambiance. The region offers a different take on Turkey, one that’s sprinkled with bouts of silence. Explore the Sumela Monastery, a Greek Orthodox Ministry built in the year 346 AD. Spend a night near the Uzun Göl or Long Lake, enjoy a sunset over the Black Sea at Boztepe, and pay respects to the nation’s founding father at the Trabzon Ataturk Kosku museum. Trabzon also has its own Hagia Sophia that’s a little different from the one in Istanbul!
Cappadocia
You will know you’re in Cappadocia when you look up and see colorful hot air balloons floating in the sky. Of course, the best view from one of these balloons is that of the UNESCO World Heritage Site-listed Goreme Open Air Museum, which is home to rock-cut churches that once sheltered Byzantine monks. Equally fascinating are the region’s 36 underground cities—; the most prominent one being the Kaymakli Underground City. Once you’re done touring the sights in Istanbul and Ankara, there are direct flights that connect you to this city in the central Anatolian region of Turkey. You can visit the various pottery shops, the Pasabag, and Devrent Valley, and even check into a cave hotel!
Ephesus
If you are a lover of history then Ephesus must make an entry in your Turkey travel map. It is located about one hour away from Izmir, a city in which many of Turkey’s most popular shows have been set. Ephesus was once an ancient Greek city and today its ruins are very interesting to visit. The entire area is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its must-visit places include the remains of the Temple of Artemis, the Temple of Hadrian, the Basilica of St. John and the Ephesus Museum where you will be captivated by the Artemis statute and the Gladiator Room. The Isa Bey Mosque is an important religious center as is the Meryemana.
Konya
Konya is a romantic city—the kind that would lure dreamers and poets. It’s no wonder why the famous Sufi poet and whirling dervish, Mevlana Rumi, penned his famous, heart-touching verses here in the 13th century. Without a doubt, your first stop should be at the Mevlana Museum that’s adorned with gorgeous roses and contains the tomb of the renowned poet. Its Semahane contains a museum exhibiting religious items from the era. Head to the Alaeddin Tepe park for an evening stroll and cup of Turkish tea. The other fine arts in Konya are represented by the Tile Museum and Museum of Wooden and Stone Carving, ensuring that all lovers of art have a gala time here!
Pamukkale
Pamukkale literally translates to “cotton castle.” One look at its whitewashed terrain and you will know why! The natural site in southwestern Turkey abounds with hot springs rich in the mineral travertine and has been drawing visitors since the 2ndcentury B.C.! Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Pamukkale combines mineral forests, waterfalls, and terraced basins into an open-air spa in a surreal landscape. Take a dip in the calcium-rich travertines, trek up Pamukkale Castle, and learn about Cicero in the Roman ruins of Laodikeia. You may also explore the Hierapolis City Ruins that, along with the springs, make up this UNESCO site.
Bursa
Bursa is so verdant that it was nicknamed "Yeşil Bursa" (Green Bursa) because of the number of parks and gorgeous mountain within and around it. It once served as the capital of the Ottoman state, and its importance as an industrial center continues to this day. In the winters, it is a major attraction for skiers because of the ski resort of Mount Uludağ that overlooks it. In the summers, the mountain provides respite from the heat and wonderful mountain vistas. Take the teleferik to go up to the top. Cumalıkızık, with its quaint cobblestone streets, is a preserved Ottoman village just outside the city center that offers a peek into the traditional Turkish way of life, head here for its huge village breakfast spreads. Buy souvenirs like ebru painting, lithography, ceramics and tiles, calligraphy, metal art, and Ottoman-period antiques at the Kayhan Bazaar. Also, don’t miss the natural thermal spas and hammams!
