It was remarkable how many people assumed that being from L5 made him deaf. Possibly it was the security badge that gave them that impression, or maybe they just thought that allowing Treize to nail him meant he was on their side.

Overall, it was pretty stupid. No one paid attention to him lingering with a cup of coffee, they just went about their day and spoke where they normally would. He wondered if being able to fade into the background might be some form of magical camouflage. He supposed that was a realistic option, and there was no reason for them to expect otherwise. Not really. They didn't know him. So he was free to wander and listen and just exist for a while before he went up to the secured swipe card room to try to get a little rest and personal time.

Wait, How Many Wing Zeroes ARE There?!

“Three Wings for the Elven kings under the sky Seven for the Dwarf lords in their halls of stone...”

So, by the end of the series it seems like there must be a Gundam 01 parked conveniently wherever you need one. This isn’t a huge mystery or anything, it’s just a bit confusing because Gundam 01 has been updated, reconstructed, and rebuilt about a dozen times by just about everyone. 

The first Gundam 01 is what Heero comes to Earth in-- I'm going to refer to it as the "Wing Gundam".  (Back in the Colonies, the Doctors Five have made plans for an updated Wing Gundam that is bigger, badder, and more space-worthy; but that Gundam hasn’t been built yet, and the AI system that will be installed in its cockpit hasn’t been implemented *).

Heero uses the Wing Gundam until episode 10, whereupon he hits the switch that shoots it directly into God's grundle. 

Zechs, being the die-hard Mobile Suit nerd he is, sweeps up all the pieces, orders a bunch of extra Gundanium, and rebuilds it specifically with the intention of giving it back to Heero, who he senses is still alive.

The idea of giving the enemy death machine back to the enemy pilot understandably causes Romefeller’s monocle to pop out into its tea, and they tell Treize to make his boyfriend blow up the rebuilt Wing Gundam. Treize *wink* definitely *wink* tells him to do that right away *wink*. 

(Zechs is a political exile with a military salary; he does not have the kind of pocket change you need to buy two Gundam’s worth of Gundanium, express delivered from Outer Space. Do you know who DOES have generational wealth to throw around? Treize Khushrenada, a man who does not skimp when it comes to getting his friends everything they want.)

"The word better be 'flawless'."

Zechs blows up a Wing Gundam, but it’s not the real Wing Gundam, it’s a fake made from the spare parts of his Tallgeese MS, the rest of the supply of Gundanium, and 18,000 Gunpla kits he bought on Ebay. No one is really convinced by this performance: his reputation as a Mobile Suit nerd is too well cemented at this point. In any case, events unfold and Heero and Trowa take the reconstructed Wing Gundam. 

THIS IS WHERE A SWITCHEROO HAPPENS. The Gundam pilots attempt to head to space, which goes poorly for everyone. Heero dumps the Wing Gundam in a lake and goes to space without it. 

MEANWHILE: Quatre, who was forced to detonate the Sandrock Gundam and is having a bit of a rough time, finds the Doctors’ blueprints for the shiny, updated Wing Gundam, which is called the Wing Zero– because it has the ZERO system programmed into its cockpit.  

So now there is the Wing Zero in space, and the original/reconstructed Wing Gundam back on earth, chilling with the fishes. In fact, if everything else is too confusing, just remember: Wing Gundam stays on Earth. 

Stuff happens in space and Zero is left behind while the boys return to Earth. OZ now has the abandoned Wing Zero, which it plans to blow up. Zechs manifests out of the woodwork because once again he is a nerd who cannot let a good Mobile Suit go to waste. He changes out the Tallgeese (RIP) for the Wing Zero, and thoroughly enjoys having a shiny new Gundam to play with. 

Meanwhile, back on Earth, power team Sally-Noin recovers the original/reconstructed Wing Gundam from the soup, and gives it back to Heero. Unfortunately at this point, Wing Gundam is a little the worse for wear and underpowered for the waves and waves of VirgoMDs being sent its way. The tough old bird eventually meets its match and goes down under fire, but not before one Treize Khushrenada phones in to its pilot and tells him to meet him for a brunch-and-joint-suicide date over at the abandoned Disney Castle. 

Original Wing Gundam is toast, Heero gets the Gundam Epyon from Treize, and Zechs conveniently heads to Earth in the Wing Zero. 

Heero and Zechs fight, their Gundams (both running on the ZERO system) refuse to hurt each other because they’ve… never felt this way about another Mobile Suit before… is this what humans call… love? Zechs and Heero do not understand their Suits' beautiful relationship and refuse to let love bloom on the battlefield. 

Oh it's like THAT huh?

Heero gives Epyon to Zechs, and takes back Wing Zero, which he prefers piloting because it doesn’t have Treize-cooties on it, even if he has to re-adjust the seat because Zechs is taller than him. 

Heero stays in the Wing Zero for the remainder of the series– BUT! The wreckage of the Wing Gundam is still on the battlefield, where it is retrieved by OZ / the Treize Faction. The now twice-rebuilt Wing Gundam is patched up once again by nerds after Zechs’ own heart, who do it seemingly for the love of the game and the professional pride of a Gunpla enthusiast. 

Wing Gundam is left in the hangar with the keys in the ignition… awaiting the call of DESTINY. Destiny comes in the form of Lady Une, who, sensing Treize trying to die heroically in space, rushes to save him in what is truly the last flight of the Wing Gundam: taking the hit meant for TallgeeseII (itself rebuilt from the remains of the Tallgeese) and staying intact just enough to keep its pilot safe.

…Do you think Wing Gundam still had some of the old Tallgeese parts left in it? Do you think they remember each other? Am I getting emotional thinking about a Mobile Suit enemies-to-lovers arc? Do Epyon and Zero work out their differences before the end? These are questions I cannot answer; we must all decide for ourselves if the robots can kiss.

–OH! And you may be asking: Where does that sickass Gundam from Endless Waltz come from??  The one with the ACTUAL WINGS and robo-feathers and stuff! Don’t worry about it, it’s the same Wing Zero, everyone got a cool aesthetic redesign for the movie**.

*) …This actually depends on whether or not you take the events of Frozen Teardrop to be canonical. If you do, then the ZERO system predates the Gundams by a whole generation, and it’s based on the digitized clone of a Norwegian Forest Cat named ‘Sam’ who belongs to the Peacecraft family and was uploaded to a prototype MS by a young Doctor J and I am not joking. That is the original granddaddy of the ZERO system. It’s a digital cat-based user interface that lives in a Mobile Suit tamagotchi and communicates with the pilot by meowing. Is this insane? Undoubtedly. Do I love Sam very much? Yes sir I do. He’s a cat with a job. He’s the very best Meowble Suit combat AI, yes he is, yes he is. **) And THIS depends on whether or not you take the Glory of Losers rewrites as canon! Because in that version, the whole lineage of both the Tallgeese and Wing Gundams is slightly different, and the fancy robo wings are actually from the Tallgeese!

Hi I'm actually looking for a series, I think it was posted on gw addiction but I'm having trouble finding it. It starts with wufei being in love with duo but also sleeping with heero, then after the war heero and duo get together. They have wufei join their relationship after endless waltz. Eventually they meet heero's mother and it turns out she did experiments on their mothers. She finds a way for men to get pregnant and wufei, duo and trowa all have babies. Quatre and trowa's son Tristan married heero's and wufei's daughter who was named for his wife. By the end of the series all the pilots and zechs are together. There is also a family of spies who work for lady une and the pilots. Also une ends up with Sally and relena ends up with Dorothy.

The Ghosts We Keep: Sakura, Tsunade; G - As the months ticked by and Sakura grew to know her master better, she watched with a mix of awe and horror: the woman was a paradoxical force of nature. She was whip-smart, terrifyingly strong and no nonsense about her leadership, yet the woman actively engaged in ridiculous vices and could offer up a smile that held all the sadness in the world.

Now Comes the Night: Sakura, Kakashi, Gai; T  Warning: Major character death - Tsunade used to tell her that in times of war, medics shouldn’t waste their chakra “beautifying the dead,” as she had callously called it. Their job was to heal the living; that was how medics best protected  the village. Sakura knew, logically, that as the battle waged on just beyond Konoha’s gates, there would be others who would sorely need her chakra reserves to heal their wounds. Her assigned role in this battle had been to preserve her power for those who needed it.

Rewatching Gundam Wing and...

So much.

I enjoy it as I always did, and my favorite (and least favorite) characters haven’t changed. I wondered if they might. But Zechs, in a massive waste of his gorgeous aesthetic, still can’t tell what side he wants to be on from a hole in the ground.

I know, he’s only 19. It’s really not that unreasonable he’d struggle in such chaotic times. But it just comes off with him being propped up as this big deciding factor when he’s often just placed opposite Heero and the rest of the Gundam pilots because that rivalry is so central to the series. I’m glad Endless Waltz gave him some proper development independent of his weird pissing contest with a 15 year old boy. He was badass in EW; he finally became the character I wanted him to be all along.

Trowa (Triton Bloom, not dickbag Trowa Barton from EW) is still my favorite character. I guess I just find something more charming about his cool facade than Heero’s. I dunno why; they’re very similar. But there’s a depth and nuance to Trowa that I don’t sense with Heero. Or it’s there and I just don’t relate to it. I enjoy Trowa’s capability to fly under the radar in ways and places he really shouldn’t be able to. While Heero and Duo pretended to be students as their cover, he was just like, “Nope. I’m joining the fucking circus.”

Wufei is still kinda just... there. Better writing could’ve made him a really cool character. Especially since he has one of the more interesting Episode Zero backstories. He’s just so uncooperative (says a lot, given that he seems the most aloof and standoffish in a group that also includes Heero and Trowa/Triton). He boasts a lot and then broods when the door hits him on the ass. The sexist undertones don’t help his likability much, either.

Shenlong, and especially Altron, are badass looking Gundams, though.

I’m only just to the boys’ return to space after Antarctica, etc. But I just know Noin is going to disappoint me like when I first watched the series. She’s such a cool character but her devotion to Zechs really hurts her.

Quatre was always kind of a meh character to me. But I appreciate his value much more this time around. I was too young my first time to appreciate his arc and what a big deal it was that he was so traumatized he cracked and nearly killed Trowa under the control of the ZERO system. While I used to think that made him hypocritical, I understand the reasoning behind that story line much better now.

Duo is just Duo. He’s as awesome as ever. A much needed bit of humor in an otherwise angsty, pseudo politically enlightened plot. Plus, Deathscythe and Deathscythe Hell are dope.

Heero’s kind of a middle of the pack character for me. I understand he’s the hero, the strongest pilot, etc. I mainly like him because of the instant trust and respect between him and Trowa.

That’s one of the things I’m reminded of this rewatch: there’s really not a lot of time spent developing the camaraderie between the Gundam pilots. They’re so scattered for the bulk of the series and it makes it hard to connect with them as a unit. It’s not necessarily an unrealistic portrayal, given the circumstances. But it does make me wish for more interaction among the pilots before Peacemillion.

Anyhoo. This is probably nowhere near the end of my ranting on this show now that I’m on a kick again.

Watching the whole Gundam series in 2023 #5: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Review

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing was directed by Masashi Ikeda and ran for 49 episodes from April 7, 1995 to March 29, 1996. Set in the After Colony year 195, the plot follows Heero Yuy and four other young Gundam pilots as they fight against the United Earth Sphere Alliance for the freedom of the space colonies.

Gundam Wing was the first Gundam AU I watched other than The Witch from Mercury. I wanted a little break from the UC timeline, so I chose Gundam Wing because I had heard a lot of praise for it online from longtime Gundam fans, so I decided to check it out.

Gundam Wing has an interesting thing about war and peace. Relena Peacecraft, the female lead of the show, is a strict pacifist, inheriting her values from her family and standing by them staunchly even in the face of the war going on around her. On the other side, Treize Kushrenada, the antagonist of the show, loves war and battle, believing it brings out the best in humanity. Though they seem opposed, after watching through the series I realised that they were both fighting for the same thing - the end of war as a whole. When looking at it from the big picture, it was tragic that so much blood had to be shed even though the two sides of the war wanted the same thing.

(As a side note, the last arc of the series was literally just Char's Counterattack all over again. I guess UC Gundam really is best Gundam.)

I didn't really like the Gundam pilots in this series. Heero Yuy is very different from other Gundam protagonists in that he is much more closed off to the carnage and effects of war around him. This is more easily seen in Duo Maxwell and Quatre Raberba Winner, who acknowledge the horrors around them and suffer in their own way. Chang Wufei was quite a flat character for me, and didn't really seem to have much substance behind him other than being the token Chinese character. Not much to say about Trowa Barton, except that I liked his story the most out of the five.

Relena Peacecraft was a difficult character to get used to. There were some moments where I didn’t know what to think of her, and genuinely got a little frustrated, but by the end of the show I quite liked her. I liked Zechs Merquise’s character at the start, but by the end of the story he fell off. I know he's a Char clone, but I really didn't like how he followed a similar arc to Char at the end.

Overall this show is a 6/10. I liked the grunt mobile suit designs, but the Gundam designs weren't as eye-catching to me.

2. Anime Series and Light Novel Series (sans epilogue): AC 195 April 06 to AC 195 December 24

Anime series begins on Relena’s Birthday, April 06 and ends Christmas Eve. The final battle later becomes known as “The Eve Wars”. The novelisation I believe is similar to the anime so for now I'm listing it as concurrent instead of an alternate interpretation.

3. Chronicle of the After Colony Era: AC 195

Takes place during the anime series, after Heero wakes up from his coma and is travelling with Trowa. Duo is still travelling with Quatre, and Relena has just revived the Sanc Kingdom.

4. Odds and Evens: AC 195 December 24.

Takes place immediately after the final battle of the anime series.

5. Anime Epilogue: AC 196 April 06.

Takes place on Relena’s Birthday the following year with her being too busy as Vice Foreign Minister to attend her birthday party. She also receives the bear and card gifts from Heero.

6. Battlefield of Pacifists: AC 196

For the three midquels, I put this one first. My reasoning is that Quatre first comes up with the idea to send the Gundams into the sun, to the surprise of Duo. Wufei realizes that he still has to fight for justice despite the war ending.

7. Blind Target Manga and Radio Drama: AC 196

This is the second on the timeline for the three midquels. The need to destroy the Gundams becomes more apparent for the boys as the remnants of White Fang use the Gundams protecting peace as a point for why the UESN cannot be trusted with total disarmament. Wufei meets up with Mariamaia and Dekim Barton.

8. Ground Zero (sans epilogue): AC 196

The final of the three midquels. After agreeing to destroy the Gundams, Duo, Quatre and Trowa suspect that Heero is secretly planning to continue to use Wing Zero and devise a way to learn his intentions. Wufei is already wearing the Mariamaia Doll uniform showing it takes place after Blind Target.

9. Endless Waltz Movie and Novelization: AC 196 December 24 to December 27 /Epilogue: AC 197 January 01

The Mariamaia Incident starts on Christmas Eve, exactly one year after the Eve Wars, and ends on December 27. The Epilogue takes place on New Year’s Day.

The Endless Waltz novelisation is concurrent with the movie. I also listed it in the same timeline due to not contradicting canon. It follows the same story with added extra backstory for characters.

10. Ground Zero Epilogue: AC 197

The epilogue for Ground Zero states that it took place in AC 197 making it take place after Endless Waltz. Heero also promises to stay by Relena’s side.

11. Frozen Teardrop Preventor 5 part 1: AC 197 March to AC 197 April 07

March- Heero is staying at the Darlian Estate by this point with Relena tending to his wounds that had accumulated over the series. Relena is planning to run for president of the UESN.

April 07- Relena throws a campaign party on the day after her birthday. Sanc Kingdom is under attack by a terrorist organization. Wufei and Sally gather the Gundam Pilots to carry out a rescue mission.

12. Episode Zero Epilogue: AC 197 April 07

Concurrent with Frozen Teardrop Preventor 5 part 1. Relena throws a campaign party on the day after her birthday. Sanc Kingdom is under attack by a terrorist organization. Wufei and Sally gather the Gundam Pilots to carry out a rescue mission. Quatre devises a plan for them to rescue the hostages without anyone dying, enemies included.

13. Frozen Teardrop Preventor 5 part 2: AC 197 April 09

The new Preventor 5 team carry out the rescue mission. The mission doesn’t go as planned and fails. Relena sacrifices herself to save the Sanc Kingdom and is cryogenically frozen. Heero is also frozen sometime later.

14. Frozen Teardrop Light Novel series and Picture Drama: MC 22 Next Winter to MC 23 First Spring

25 years later Heero Yuy awakens to fight a new war on Mars along with the old and new Gundam Pilots.

There’s a full timeline for the events leading up to current day Frozen Teardrop that I will translate as a later edit for this post. 15. Frozen Teardrop Epilogue: MC 23 First Summer.

Heero and Relena have been married for 5 months and peace is slowly coming to Mars.

I looked over all my manga and light novels to check dates so hopefully this is all accurate. It all surprisingly fits in nicely too, so I guess the writers were careful not to contradict each other’s extra stories.

Content that doesn’t fit on the timeline or is contradictory to canon:

Glory of the Losers - This is a reboot, so it has its own timeline and canon with different versions of events from the GW series.

A Scythe in my Right Hand, You in my Left - This story is… odd, to put it nicely 😂. It’s a good story but it doesn’t make sense in canon at all, so it goes under the “Duo’s weird catholic fever dream” category of the timeline. It also didn’t have anyone from the show work on it, unlike the rest of the media, so it’s not considered canon in that regard and that’s also probably why it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the canon.

Operation Preventor Radio Drama Cassette - It’s a crack scenario revolving around the boys hosting a radio show that takes place sometime after Endless Waltz. Although the boys hosting a radio show is an unlikely scenario 😂, it does have good characterisations and hilarious interactions between the G-pilots.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Manga by Koichi Tokita - This is a retelling of GW and contains vastly different scenarios so it’s its own canon. The writers of GW also didn’t work on it so it’s not part of the main canon in that way too.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz Manga by Koichi Tokita - The sequel to the Mobile Suit Gundam Manga and the same deal as before where it didn’t have any of the original writers work on it. Although it really doesn't differ from the movie at all so it could also work as concurrent to Endless Waltz movie and novels.

Gundam Wing: Valentine's Day Scenarios (ideas for shortfics I'll never write)

*Follows the Japanese convention, ie girls give chocolate to people on Valentine's Day but guys generally do not.

Heero: Receives chocolates and a card from Relena, which he tears up in front of his horrified friends. Relena is pleased by the continuation of their private joke and looks forward to ripping up his card on White Day.

Duo: Claims that he forgot it was Valentine's Day when Hilde gives him chocolates. "Oh, was that today? Thanks I guess..." While trying to look cool and nonchalant he gives Hilde the impression that he is uninterested and/or unimpressed with her gift. Hilde doesn't speak to him for the rest of the day. He receives zero sympathy from his friends for the mess he created. Ends up buying Hilde flowers to try to make it up to her.

Quatre: Receives no less than 50 boxes of chocolates and other gifts from admirers. He distributes most of it among his female household staff so they don't have to buy chocolates for their significant others. This has been a yearly tradition since he first was old enough to have admirers, and thus the day has been dubbed "Boxing Day: Round Two." Finding he has more than usual this year, Quatre thinks nothing of re-gifting chocolates to each of his friends as well.

Trowa: Catherine gifts him a box of chocolates and funerary flowers, which come with a sympathy card (offering condolences on his dead love life). Upon seeing the re-gifted chocolates from Quatre, Catherine jokingly demands her gift back since Trowa's love life is clearly less dead than he let on. Trowa points out that Quatre gave chocolates to all of his friends, not just to Trowa. It doesn't mean anything. ...Even if Quatre did know which chocolates Trowa would like best and made sure to give him those.

Wufei: Receives chocolates from an unknown source and spends the day trying to track down his secret admirer while his friends watch. As Wufei expresses more and more longing to meet his mystery admirer, Duo guiltily admits to Quatre that he sent the chocolates as a prank and now doesn't have the heart to tell Wufei the truth. Wufei's passionate declaration that this is the first time he's known love in years finally makes Duo crack and give a groveling apology. It is only then that Wufei curtly explains that he knew the identity of his "admirer" from the start and displays the evidence: a single long brown hair that was accidentally included in the gift wrap.

"They're still a ship even if they have a whole movie about their metaphorical divorce that ends in mutual death just trust me bro. if anything the destruction of their relationship is the main appeal. Interpreting the followup conclusion movie in a gay way strengthens it really because its mostly driven by chars emotional state. And his metaphorical divorce certainly affects his emotional state. These two fought both on opposite sides and the same sides of wars, so they understand eachother better than anyone else could, but the only intimacy they know is violence because this is a setting plagued by conflict, and such conflict has shaped who they are, so of course their relationship starts and ends with them fighting on opposite sides. They do experience some happiness together, though. For a while, while theyre both on the same side, they end up mentoring this one kid together, it's almost like they're his gay dads."

"Also this isn't relevant to anything but I want to impart onto you knowledge about chars name. It isn't his original name, but it is his real name in the sense that if you successfully steal a dudes identity after killing him for atleast a decade Its Just Yours Now. Char is actually his third name. His parents named him casval rem daikun and he was forced to go into hiding under the name edouard mass. His fourth name, that he uses when he and amuro are on the same side, is quattro bajeena. You know, like four vagina. He named himself that. When he stops using the quattro identity he goes back to being char, and like I know the whole killing a dude to get the name thing is technically a retcon, but it's hilarious to me that he took over this guys life so effectively that a) no one noticed and b) its became his default name."

I'm putting this in as well bc the gundam I watched was Gundam Wing/AC and I can't believe that I'm only just now finding out that Quatre Raberba Winner isn't just a bad name, but a bad name this is I guess a reference to an older bad name???? They also reused parts of this backstory for Trowa lmao
