Baby dies after being cut from womb

A baby boy who was cut from a Chicago womans womb with a butcher knife has died in hospital, where he had been since the April attack that killed his mother. Yovanny Jadiel Lopez died at Christ Medical Center from a severe brain injury, according to a statement posted on Facebook. Family spokeswoman Julie Contreras expressed great sadness in announcing the babys death. The baby had been on life support since being brought to the hospital on April 23. Prosecutors say Clarisa Figueroa, 46, claimed she had given birth to the baby. She and her 24-year-old daughter, Desiree Figueroa, are charged with murder in the death of the babys mother, 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez. Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said he expects both women will now be charged with murder in the infants death.

Picture: AP Prosecutors will make a determination on additional charges after police and the medical examiners office complete their investigations, Cook County States Attorneys Office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said in a written statement. An lawyer for the family, Frank Avila, demanded that the office charge the two women with murder, and charge the Figueroas boyfriend, Piotr Bobak, with murder as well. Bobak has been charged with concealing a homicide. The baby was murdered and we demand justice, he said.

Mr Avila told reporters that he was notified overnight that the babys condition had deteriorated, prompting him to call a Catholic priest, who came to the hospital to administer last rites. Four hours later, he said, the child died as a result of brain injuries caused by a loss of oxygen when he was cut from his mothers body. Christ Medical Center said that its hearts and prayers were with the babys family, and that their courage and grace have drawn the admiration of our entire organisation. Authorities contend that not long after Clarisa Figueroas adult son died of natural causes, she told her family she was pregnant. They say she plotted for months to acquire a newborn, and that she posted an ultrasound and photos of a room decorated for a baby on her Facebook page.

The two first met in person around April 1, when Ms Ochoa-Lopez went to the Figueroas house and left unharmed, prosecutors allege. The teen returned on April 23 to accept Clarisa Figueroas offer of free baby clothes, and as Desiree Figueroa was showing Ms Ochoa-Lopez a photo album of her late brother to distract her, Clarisa Figueroa sneaked up behind her and strangled her with a cord. Once Ms Ochoa-Lopez stopped showing signs of life, Clarisa Figueroa cut the baby from her womb and she and her daughter wrapped the teens body in a blanket, put it in a plastic bag and dragged it outside to a garbage can, according to prosecutors. Later that day, Clarisa Figueroa called 911 claiming that her newborn baby was not breathing. When first responders arrived, the child was blue. They tried to resuscitate the infant and took him to Christ Medical Center, where he remained until his death. The Murder of Carly Ryan

Oof, you guys. This hit home.

Carly Ryan was a bright, loving young girl who had a solid relationship with her mum, Sonia. Carly was a typical teenage girl in 2006 – she loved emo music, alternative fashion, and she was heavily invested, like we all were back in the glory days, in her MySpace profile. On MySpace, she met a guy – Brandon, who liked all the things Carly liked, and most importantly, liked Carly.

Carly and Brandon began an online relationship, but Carly found out that Brandon was not who he said he was in the worst way.

EPISODE NOTES:

Carly Ryan was murdered in February of 2007, by the person that claimed to be her online boyfriend’s father. In reality, he was a man in his fifties by the name of Garry Newman, who had been catfishing Carly for eighteen months, pretending to be a teenaged muso named Brandon. Carly fell for Brandon, big time, and was upset when he couldn’t travel from Melbourne to South Australia for her birthday party. Brandon’s dad, Shane, would be in SA on business at the time though, so he popped in to the party to meet his son’s girlfriend.

Or so the story went. In reality, Garry was finally gaining access to the teenage girl he’d groomed for months, and he wasted no time getting his hands on Carly. Carly’s mum Sonia caught Garry interfering with her daughter and kicked him out of the house, and banned Carly from social media. But Carly was in love with Brandon, so when he said that he could finally come to Adelaide and meet her, she couldn’t say no. There, Carly met Garry, and his real son, posing as “Brandon”. Carly would never come back home to her mother after this meeting.

Carly Ryan was murdered by a twisted predator, who preyed on her totally normal, 15-year-old desire to be loved and cared for. When the media got hold of the story, they latched on to Carly’s involvement in the emo subculture, which of course has nothing to do with the fact that she was the victim of a murderous pedophile.
