On Air - Introduction

On Air! (オンエア！) was a joseimuke mobile game about aspiring voice actors released by Coly, aka the developers of Mahoyaku/Promise of Wizard, Stand My Heroes and Break My Case. It was active from 2018-2020, and EOSed not long after its second anniversary. Ever since it released, On Air has been one of my favourite games of all time, and with the Switch port being released I want to try and renew some interest in it! (Do I recommend buying the Switch port? No we archived all the stories before the original game shut down so you should not pay money unless you're crazy like me. Do I think you should read the stories for free and love the characters? Yes!)

In On Air, you play as Amane Hikari, an honours student at Hoseki Gaoka (usually translated as Jewellery Hill School). There are 29 students and 1 teacher whose cards you can collect, divided into 6 units. The game has a jewel motif: as well as the school's name, each character has their own representative jewel. In accordance with it being a seiyuu-themed game, almost every part of OA was fully voiced. Every story, every mini interaction. You know how games like Bandori have those mini character interactions on the map? OA has 1578 of those, and every single one is voiced. They were kind of crazy for that.

OA had really charming characters and art - there's a reason part of the fandom is still around 4 years after EOS! The crowdfunding for the Switch port raised 10x the initial goal. That is how much people wanted this game back. Other than that it also had the funniest guy ever created: Aoyagi Mikado. I would like everybody to know about him.

I'm going to be using this blog to translate a whole bunch of things for the game - it's unlikely we'll ever see a sequel to the game or anything, but maybe if Western interest keeps up it'll randomly get an official English release months down the line like Ichu did?

November 9 - Ren Kagaya

Feast of the Dedication of the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran: The anniversary of the dedication of this church has been observed as a feast in Roman Catholicism only since the 12th century, a time of increasing centralization of papal authority in the history of the Church. The 9th of November is the feast of the Dedication of the (Arch)Basilica of the Lateran (Dedicatio Basilicae Lateranensis), and is referred to in older texts as the 'Dedication of the Basilica of the Most Holy Savior'.

December 6 - Rin Toma

St. Nicholas of Myra: Early Christian bishop of Greek descent from the maritime city of Myra in Asia Minor (modern-day Demre, Turkey) during the time of the Roman Empire. Because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession, he is also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker. He is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, prostitutes, children, brewers, pawnbrokers, and students in various cities and countries around Europe. His reputation evolved among the faithful, as was common for early Christian saints, and his legendary habit of secret gift-giving gave rise to the traditional model of Santa Claus through Sinterklaas.

December 12 - Tsubaki Miyabino

Our Lady of Guadalupe (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe): A Marian title that is associated with a venerated image (in the form of a tilma by St. Juan Diego) enshrined within the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. On October 1895, Pope Leo XIII granted the image a Canonical Coronation. Since then the Virgin of Guadalupe has been proclaimed 'Queen of Mexico', 'Patroness of the Americas', 'Empress of Latin America', and 'Protectress of Unborn Children'. On July 16th 1935, she was also proclaimed 'Heavenly Patroness of the Philippines' by Pope Pius XI both witnessed and signed by Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, a designation he later rescinded in 1942 upon becoming Pius XII.

October 15 - Kasumi Toba

St. Teresa of Ávila (Teresa of Jesus): Spanish Carmelite nun, mystic, religious reformer, author and theologian. Active during the Catholic Reformation, she reformed the Carmelite Orders of both women and men. The movement she initiated was later joined by the younger Spanish Carmelite friar and mystic, John of the Cross. It led eventually to the establishment of the Discalced Carmelites. A formal papal decree adopting the split from the old order was issued in 1580. Her written contributions, which include her autobiography, The Life of Teresa of Jesus and her seminal work The Interior Castle, are today an integral part of Spanish Renaissance literature, and her works form part of the literary canon of Christian mysticism and Christian meditation practice, and continue to attract interest from people both within and outside the Catholic Church. Teresa has since become one of the patron saints of Spain. However, not until September of 1970, when Pope Paul VI proclaim Teresa the first female Doctor of the Church in recognition of her centuries-long spiritual legacy to Catholicism.

February 22 - Ota Tachibana

Chair of Saint Peter: Known as the Throne of Saint Peter, it is a relic conserved in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, the sovereign enclave of the Pope inside Rome, Italy. The relic is a wooden throne that tradition claims the Apostle Saint Peter, the leader of the Early Christians in Rome and first Pope, used as Bishop of Rome. It is enclosed in a sculpted gilt bronze casing designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and executed between 1647 and 1653, and Pope Benedict XVI described the chair as 'a symbol of the special mission of Peter and his Successors to tend Christ's flock, keeping it united in faith and in charity' in 2012. The wooden throne was a gift from Holy Roman Emperor Charles the Bald to Pope John VIII in 875.

i knew of twst since either when it was first announced or when the characters were first announced, i can’t remember exactly, but either way i hated it especially after i saw the characters. i had no interest in disney films and none of the characters really seemed like my type... lmaoooooo (there wasn’t exactly much info on jamil, okay)

i expected riddle to be my favourite, because he reminded me of tsubaki miyabino from on air, but i did have a slight feeling i would end up liking jamil. and then one day i woke up and had jamil brainrot. it’s been downhill ever since!

i had no idea who yana toboso was. i never liked black butler, and i live under a rock so i never knew her name. and i somehow missed that she was involved with twst when first reading up on it, so needless to say i was very confused when everyone in the discord server was talking about someone called yana... i just waited for someone else to ask kskdhkdjd
