For Funny Face, Givenchy made all of Audrey Hepburn's "Parisian" dresses. This ensured that the couturier received the same rating (and an Oscar® nomination) as costume designer Edith Head.

Jardin des Tuileries, 5 April 1896 (x)
William Faulkner to his aunt Bama September 1925 I live just around the corner from the Luxembourg Gardens, where I spend all my time. I write there, and play with the children, help them sail their boats, etc. There is an old bent man who sails a toy boat on the pool, with the most beautiful rapt face you ever saw. When I am old enough to no longer have to make excuses for not working, I shall have a weathered derby hat like his and spend my days sailing a toy boat in the Luxembourg Gardens.

Happy Nice Ask Day to you!
Is there a smell that makes you nostalgic/ brings back happy memories for you?
Thank you for asking, friend!
The smell of lilies, they are my favorite flower, any color, any variety, I love them all though I am partial to stargazer lilies.
In my early 20s, I lived in Paris for a year in a 6th floor walk up maids room with a toilet in the hall. It was a hot summer and I spent as little time in my room as possible. I spent one hot Sunday afternoon in the Jardin des Tuileries writing my now husband a letter about all the people passing by and the things I was doing in Paris. He loved the letter and sent me a giant bouquet of white lilies. My tiny room smelled like lilies for weeks after they died.
Here's a photo of an absolutely gorgeous lily I saw at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, since I know you garden.

If you’d like to put a pause on current threads while in Paris, please feel free to do so! Just make sure to post about it over in the OOC blog so everyone’s on the same page.
Struggling to come up with a plot or location? I got you!
friendly plots:
Visit the spa in the Shangri-La! Here you can get a full-body massage, do yoga, anything to rebalance your mind and soul.
Speaking of the spa, there is a 17-metre swimming pool if you and a friend choose to have a late swim. Don’t worry, it’s kept nice and warm day and night!
Have dinner at one of the restaurants in the hotel. One of which has a Michelin star. For a funnier plot: the waiter you’re assigned keeps forgetting about your table.
Love cheese? Take a cheese and wine tour with a friend!
If you’re into something artsy, then spend a day at the Versailles Palace & Gardens (where the incredible Hall of Mirrors awaits.
See the infamous Notre Dame Cathedral up close! Want to make the plot a little special? A local spots you so now you and your friend have to try to hide!
Travel in style on an exclusive retro sidecar motorcycle. Make sure that you get a trusty driver for this!
Climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower for sweeping views. Take lots of pictures!
Up for a game? Go watch a soccer/football game at the Le Parc des Princes! There’s a game Tuesday and Wednesday. Place a friendly bet or two.
Tick off the city’s highlights with a hop-on hop-off bus tour. Get lost when you don’t make it back in time before your bus leaves you!
Glide through Paris’ laneways on a Segway tour! Small twist?: You crash your segway.
How about crack the code in an escape room! Have a fun argument when time starts to run out!
not so friendly plots:
Reach for the same item while shopping at Place Vendome. You argue about who deserves the piece.
Get into a drunk argument while you stay out late enjoying Paris’ nightlife with a Latin Quarter pub crawl.
Be forced to look like friends when locals spot you, and you’re forced to get in the same ferris wheel at Le Jardin Des Tuileries.
Vomit on the other after you ate (too much) ice cream at Berthillon on Ile St Louis.
Place a big bet at a horse racing event, then argue when the other doesn’t wan to pay.
Lose your crap when the other keeps cutting in front of you while you’re having a friendly competition at Paris Kart Indoor.
What started as a great afternoon as now turned into a sour one after you spend the entire day together. You get into a disagreement after you rent a small boat at La Villette.
Get lost in the backstreets of Montemartre and bicker about who got who lost.
romantic plots:
Want to up your dating level? Have Champagne at the Top of the Eiffel Tower. It sparks all the romance in Paris.
Bring roses, wine, chocolate, and have a romantic picnic at Luxembourg Gardens and Palace.
Learn to make French macarons together! Better plot? Your cooking instructor is busy on their phone that you and your significant other do your own thing.
Treat your partner to a Seine River dinner cruise. You’ll have a beautiful view of the river and the Eiffel tower.
Stroll the Streets of Montmartre- It Is One of the Most Romantic Places in Paris! If you’re still in the dating process, this will help spark the romance and have a beautiful view, too!
Sipping wine at a wine bar is one of the best date ideas in Paris. Better plot? It’s a slow night so it’s just you and your significant other.
Strolling hand in hand along the Seine. Go at night to help you blend in with locals.
Dine at a Michelin-Starred Restaurant for a romantic Paris date night. Small twist?: Your waiter/waitress has a hard time understanding you, and gives you the wrong plate.
How about if you want to start dating? Maybe meet up accidentally to a restaurant, you decide to eat together, then before you know it, you’re having your first date.
What if you’re exes? Spark a conversation when you’re on the top of the Eiffel Tower. Remember the old days, bring up memories.
Of course, you don’t need to do all of these. You can always switch up a few details if you wish to!

Post #3: Reflection of Parisian Lifestyle
During some free time in Paris, I went to the Jardin des Tuileries. I went on a sunny, beautiful day and it was extremely busy with people everywhere. I did go during the holiday weekend, around 11am, so I can imagine it was a little busier than normal, but I have walked through it other days as well and it has been a place several people seem to enjoy spending time at. When walking around, I noticed green chairs circling the large fountain in the middle of the park. There were several people sitting around, talking, relaxing, and enjoying the sunshine. This place seemed to be used by all groups of people. I saw ages ranging from children to elderly. There were friend groups, individuals, families, tourists, all walking around and enjoying the beautiful scenery. This place is an area for everyone to come together, enjoy one's company, and soak in a peaceful moment in such a busy place in the world.

During my time abroad, I have noticed how little Parisians eat while being out and about. Eating is something that people set aside time for, and make it a part of their schedule. It is not something that should be rushed, on the go, or taken somewhere else to eat other than picnics. After learning in class that Parisians don’t eat and walk, or drink coffee in to-go cups, it has made me realize how much they value and prioritize these times during the day. I have seen very few people eating alone, just about everyone eating or having a drink with a friend. I noticed that they enjoy using these garden/park spaces for social gatherings. I have seen several groups of friends sitting in the grass and enjoying each other's company. Whether they are having a picnic in the grass, or taking a nap or a peaceful moment to lay down, they are doing it outside and together.

The French social safety net is far different than the American one. They are able to live better lives off of middle class income wages, and the variety of jobs appear to be equally respected. Unlike the United States, those who work as servers in restaurants often choose this job as their career path. It isn’t a job that just gets them by or a temporary job in between, this career is respected and valued. Additionally, Parisians have many standard benefits that come with their careers. Medical coverage is free in France, so this allows anyone who is needing medical care to have the ability to seek it. Giving birth in hospitals is also free in France which is quite different than it is in America. Life insurance is also available to all Parisians which protects those involved in injuries and death. Employers are also required to cover 50% of the cost of public transportation for their employees.
I have noticed how different the work/life balance is in France compared to the United States. Learning that Parisians are required to have a 48 hour period of no working, as well as not working over 35 hours a week. They value their social life and time of freedom much more than Americans do. I think this is a smart way of living. I think this lifestyle would lead to a lot less burnout, stress, addictions, depression, and sadness in America. Allowing free time to do what you enjoy improves people’s quality of life and leads to a more successful life as well. This allows Parisians to be rested and ready to put their all into their jobs when it is time for them to work in the week. I have encountered such kind people in restaurants and stores during my time abroad. They seem passionate and happy about their job and where they are in life.
Taking a look into French history, the Jardin des Tuileries used to be surrounded by a Palace. The gardens used to be a place for those members of society in a social context. This wasn’t accessible for everyone in the area, only those who were apart or had connections to the Palace. However, when the Palace burned down and was demolished, the shift from being a private garden to a public garden occurred. The gardens were no longer exclusive, but now anyone from the community in Paris was allowed to come and enjoy the gardens and use a space for relaxation and socialization.

Wednesday Wanderings and Wonderings. Walking Distance from our domicile.
Jardin des Tuileries
It’s always a great idea to walk thru the Jardin des Tuileries and do some people watching while seating in the green chair, especially the ones around the fountains and even more so during the summer when little kids push their little wooden boats.
The Jardin des Tuileries takes its name from the tile factories that stood on the spot where Queen Catherine de Medici had the Tuileries Palace built in 1564, which no longer exists today. The famous king's gardener, André Le Nôtre, gave it its current appearance as a French garden from 1664. The garden, which separates the Louvre museum from the Place de la Concorde, is a place for walks and culture for Parisians and tourists.
