Last week we had the Royal Marines contact us enquiring about a service and repair of the turbo from a Pinzgauer High-Mobility All-Terrain Vehicle which has been mobilised to help during this coronavirus outbreak.
Being a second generation Pinzgauer the engine was a VW 2.4 inline six with a Garrett T3 turbocharger.

Here's a Ford Focus ST turbocharger that came into us for a service and hybrid upgrade last week. These 2.5 five cylinder engines sound great and really can see large power hikes with a few easy modifications.

The Alfa Romeo 1.9 JTDm comes with 170bhp and 243lb/ft of torque, a stage 1 remap takes that up to 207bhp and 312lb/ft.

VW Polo 1.2 TSi
You can’t go far wrong with the VW Polo when choosing a small car and the 1.2 TSi engines are a peach for tuning. With nothing more than a remap these engines push out a reliable 130bhp along with 155 lb/ft of torque suddenly making these a bit of a hot hatch yet still only £20 per year to tax!

Our MDX585 GT1749V Hybrid for the 150hp Z19DTH Vauxhall Astra is a big leap forward in power and general performance. This turbo is good for a reliable 250bhp but also comes with a high flow 56mm billet compressor wheel upgrade to help reduce lag.

The VW Amarok 2.0 Bi-Turbo diesel engine is a good performer with its 180bhp but it's not without its problems. A search through forums will reveal several issues, the most common being heavy oil consumption due to wear in the cylinders. Unfortunately, this oil consumption is often mistakenly blamed on the turbochargers, to further complicate matters this wear in the cylinders can also lead to oil contamination which will then cause the bearings in the turbos to fail. At Turbo Dynamics we have a wealth of experience with these turbos and can refurbish them to an as new condition from £195+vat each. We will also diagnose what the cause of the failure most likely was. We also offer an upgrade for those of you looking to reliably increase your power output. The upgrade is to the larger K04 turbo and includes a billet compressor wheel, 360-degree thrust bearing and cut back to the turbine wheel. We do a range of hybrid upgrades for the VAG 2.0 TFSI K03 and K04 engines. These engines are seen in many cars across the SEAT, VW, Audi and Skoda range. The normal output on these engines tends to be 200-260bhp but they are very tuneable units with 360bhp being quite achievable before needing to work on the engine's internals. Once forged and fitted with a big turbo, these engines have been seen to push out way over 500bhp!

The Garrett GTX2867R Gen II turbocharger is a popular choice due to its flexibility to work on a wide range of engine sizes and rated at up to 550bhp.
This one was ordered for a customer who mocked it up for fitment in his engine bay, then sent to us for a custom actuator install. The position of the actuator is important to allow accurate boost control and prevent premature wear of the actuator.
