i get the feeling that sewing is much harder than knitting in the sense that sewing instructions seem fairly simple but then there's 83429 things that can and will go wrong, meanwhile knitting seems completely incomprehensible wizardry at first but you just gotta start and then keep going and you'll eventually get there
i also know this is a distorted vision of both crafts because i am a total beginner at sewing, and if i force myself to remember, i'll realize that my very first knitting projects sucked major ass too and im just somehow expecting to be excellent at sewing even though im only starting

I started my very first sewing project two days ago. I think it's going to be a complete disaster but I kinda don't care. At least so far. This shit is so therapeutic. Idk if it's because I'm a beginner but it requires my full focus in a way knitting doesn't. Every moment I have to concentrate on what I'm doing and it doesn't leave my brain any space to think about anything else. I love it. And it's so fun too. Even when I fuck up it's fun. I had to stop because I couldn't get the zigzag stitch right even after lots of tries and I wasn't even mad. It's just fun.

not me downloading a free sewing pattern for a cute shirt and only after printing it and buying the fabric with it in mind i go and see that the instructions mention you need "a little skill" to make it (that means its going to be hard af to make and mine's gonna look like shit)

also i havent posted about how ive been gifted a SECOND second-hand sewing machine. this time it's an Alfa, which is the one im currently learning how to use. and im really excited about it because my mom still keeps an old sewing machine from my grandma, and it's also Alfa brand. it's one of those idk how theyre called, but its not electrical. it's from before the civil war, so like the 1930's or late 1920's. probably early 1930's. it'll be 100 years old in about a decade, which is crazy now that i think about it. we still keep the instructions and all. anyway, once i learn how to properly use a sewing machine you can take for granted ill learn how to use that one because it's BEAUTIFUL.
