What is Ring Type Joint Gasket?
Ring Joint Gaskets (RTJ) are metallic sealing rings used in high pressure and high-temperature applications as well as fitted in ring groove type flanges. RTJ gaskets are widely used in Oil & Gas and Petrochemical industry, pressure vessel joints, valves, and pipeline construction.
Ring Type Joint gaskets application is determined based on the material suitable for the user's specifications with corrosive protection. RTJ Gaskets are manufactured according to API STD 6A, and ASME B16.20 for various industrial applications.
Characteristics of RTJ Gaskets
Ring Type Joints gaskets have high tolerance and tightness to changes in temperature and pressure. The axis compressive load acts on the gasket, causing them to flow into deformity of flange.
It seals during the metal to metal contact between gasket and flange. While installation of RTJ Gaskets, it's essential to have special attention on the bolting for a uniform load which acts on the gasket. Also, ensure that the Ring joint gaskets and groove faces are free from any debris.
Types of Ring Type Joint Gaskets
Ring Type Joint gaskets are available in a variety of combinations, such as material, sizes, and types. RTJ gaskets are categorized into types, and they are Style R, Style, RX, and Style BX, Rubber Coated RTJ, Transition RTJ, IX, AX, CX.
Style RX
The RX type of Ring Joint Gaskets has a unique self-sealing action. It has a high resistance to shock load, drilling vibrations, and test pressure shock. Style RX Ring Type Joints are interchangeable with standard style R groove flange. It has increased height and uses the internal system pressure to energize and improve the seal as internal pressure increases. Style RX is manufactured following the API 6A and ASME B16.20.
Style R
This type of Ring Type Joint gaskets is available in octagonal cross-sections and Oval shapes. The oval type ring can fit the round and flat bottom groove flange, whereas the octagonal ring is suitable only for flat bottom groove flange. Style R gaskets are manufactured under API 6A and ASME B16.20 standards.
Style BX
The BX type Ring Joint Gaskets can be used only with API BX flanges. It has a pitch diameter slightly higher than the groove pitch diameter. BX type, API Ring Joint gasket forms a metal to metal seal on assembly and improves the efficiency as the internal pressure increases. All the style BX sizes have a pressure relief hole to equate the pressure across sealing faces.
Transition Ring Type Joints
Transition Ring type joints are a combination of two different ring sizes with the same pitch circle diameter. It is considered ideal for petrochemical industries. This type of RTJ is used for sealing flanges of different ring groove diameters. Transition RTJ gaskets are manufactured from standard materials and exotic alloys. It is available in both oval or octagonal facings.  
Style IX Seal Ring Gaskets
This IX seal ring gaskets are specially designed to create a compact flange connections. The rings comes in three different types of steels and are coated with PTFE in different colors and markings inside the ring as standard identification. Style IX is ideal for crude extraction and in high pressure applications.
AX Ring Gasket
Style AX Ring gasket is an octagonal ring gasket suitable for drilling manufacturing system. It is a solid ring gasket by forging, machining, and heat treatment. These metal gaskets exhibit a radial tight sealing effect, same as type VX ring gasket and CX ring gaskets. It can replace API ring gaskets. They are generally used for hydraulic connectors, vessel joints, and pipe works. It is pressure energized to offer better sealing performance.
Our gaskets have a thin protective coating that eliminates the oxidation effects caused by the atmospheric contact, which makes our gaskets extremely reliable. Here are the hardness values specified for different materials as per API 6A and ASME B 16.20.
CX Ring Type Joint Gasket
CX is a pressure energized ring joint gasket. It is used along with small bands of contact between the grooves and the OD of the gasket. CS gasket is protected from keyseating suitable for use in the BOP and riser system. It is slightly larger in diameter than the groove and is compressed to achieve initial sealing as the joint is tightened. The gasket allows face-to-face contact between the clamp hubs or flanges and tightens with minimal clamping force.  
Rubber Coated RTJ Gasket
Rubber coated RTJ gaskets help to avoid potential damage during mental to metal contact. It is used as an envelope instead of a more compressed fiber material insert gasket. Rubber RTJ gaskets exhibit high chemical resistance with recovery properties, which allows this type of gasket to be utilized at high compressive loads and high temperatures.

Rotary Vacuum Evaporator - The Most Versatile Borosilicate Glass Process Equipment
A Rotary Evaporator, also popularly known as a Rotavapor or Rotovap, is a specialized and extremely Versatile Equipment for chemical processes.

1) Rotary Evaporator Principle
The Evaporator is essentially working on the same principles as a distillation unit i.e. separation of components having different boiling points. However, few special design features make the functioning of the Rotovap unique and versatile.
Operation under high vacuum of 1 torr, thereby reducing the solvent boiling points under vacuum considerably as compared to the boiling point under atmospheric conditions.
Constant rotation of Rotary flask results in a thin layer of process media on the inner wall, thereby ensuring uniform heating across the entire mass, and less possibility of bumping.
The rotation of flask immersed in the bath increases the surface area of evaporation greatly, thereby increasing the speed of distillation.
The rotation mechanism also makes it suitable for volatile and heat-sensitive process media, wherein the properties can alter if direct high heat is applied for longer time. This is because due to rotation, the process feed is evenly mixed.
Plug and Play type of construction making it easy to switch the configuration for different applications.
The Rotary Evaporator is normally always operated under high vacuum. The Feed is charged inside the rotary flask from the feed tube made of PTFE.
Ideally, feed up to a maximum of 70–80% capacity of the rotary flask is desired for optimum results. Once the feed is charged, the rotation is started.
Also, the utility circulation in the condenser is started. This rotation action creates a thin film of process feed on the wall of the rotating flask.
Next the heating is started. The rotary evaporator procedure is very crucial for efficient performance. Once the oil in the bath starts heating, and this heat is indirectly passed to the process feed inside the flask.
As the process feed gets heated, the low boiler converts into vapours, and goes up the vapour tube and into the condenser, where the condensate is formed.
This condensate can either be refluxed back into the rotary flask for higher purity applications, or collected in the receiver.
Depending on the design features, a lot of different process possibilities are there, but the basic operating principle essentially remains as indicated above.
2. Rotary Evaporator Construction

The water/oil bath is a heated bath which encloses the main rotary flask and is used to indirectly heat the contents of the process.
The bath is usually equipped with electric heaters which can be ATEX-compliant or weather-proof, depending on the application area’s Hazardous Zone Classification.
As a safety feature, the bath is appropriately insulated so that the outside surface is not too hot to touch.
The Rotary Flask is the main component where the process fluid is initially charged, and is made of Borosilicate Glass 3.3 raw material.
The Flask’s construction is of prime importance for the smooth rotation along the central axis.
Our advanced manufacturing techniques ensure that the evaporating flask is rotating perfectly along the central axis, thereby ensuring that the entire surface area comes in contact for the same time with the heating media in a bath.
The Mechanical Seal, along with the motor unit connected to the flask is responsible for the smooth and leak-proof rotation of the flask at a constant speed.
An RTD is placed just above the vapour tube to measure the vapour temperature before it goes into the condenser.
The RTD is inserted inside the vapour tube in a glass thermowell. This ensures that the contact parts are strictly Borosilicate Glass 3.3 and PTFE only and the metal tip of PT-100 sensor does not come in direct contact with the process vapour.
A Shell & Coil type condenser of suitable heat transfer area is chosen so that there is no pressure build-up due to excessive un-condensed vapours.
The condenser is preferably placed in vertical orientation for efficient condensation.
Different configurations with single and double condensers are available depending on the application. As a standard, a single condenser is provided.
A vent is provided at the top of the condenser. This can be used for venting in the case of excessive pressure build-up.
We can also connect the vacuum pump here. Alternatively, the vacuum pump connection can be made at the receiver vent nozzle.
All such vent outlets are equipped with suitable valves with leak-proof PTFE bellow to glass connections.
The vent valve is provided with GL18 thread at the end, where BOLA connectors can be placed and hose pipe connected.
This arrangement provides seamless connection without any leakages.
The Liquid feed is used to feed the process feed into the rotary flask without breaking the process vacuum.
Since the system is already under vacuum, the process feed easily flows into the system.
This valve too is provided with GL thread and BOLA connector. This valve is connected with a PTFE tube which travels throughout the vapor tube, directly into the rotary Flask.
This ensures that the feed does not get carried to the receiver directly along with the vapour or condensate flowing in the vapour tube.
A Product Cooler is essential to cool down the condensate, before moving it to the receiver.
The product cooler is essentially a Shell & Coil type heat exchanger with the process fluid in the coil side and utility in the shell side.
This arrangement ensures rapid cooling in a short time.
The receivers are spherical vessels with multiple nozzles of a suitable size. The units usually have either one or two receivers, connected in parallel.
The receiving vessel has a short drip tube to ensure that the solvent drops down directly into the vessel and not flow along the walls.
A Control Panel is an integral part of the Rotary Evaporator. This is a highly customized part and Ablaze can offer partial to full automation of the process through the control panel, depending on the client’s process requirement.
As a standard, the basic model has provision for digital display of Bath temperature, Vapour Temperature and RPM of the Rotary Flask. It also has controls to set the desired RPM and the desired Oil Bath Temperature.
In a little advanced models, Vacuum control and monitoring is also provided, wherein the vacuum pump is connected via the panel and the required process vacuum can be set, monitored and controlled directly through the panel.
Further customization and control can be provided, since we have a highly advanced in-house automation team.
The Panel and all the electric components are housed in an ATEX-Compliant Enclosure for operation in hazardous areas.
The Entire Rotary Evaporator System is mounted on a Compact Skid of Stainless Steel where all the components rest and all provided appropriate support to ensure vibration free operation.
This skid itself is mounted on heavy duty Castor Wheels, which can be locked, to provide easy movement of the unit in the plant or lab.
A Safety Lid is placed on the rotary flask as a precaution in case of spillage risk. It is transparent and hence it provides safety without compromising on the reaction visibility.
3. Rotary Evaporator Design Variations
Multiple Design Variations are available in Our Standard Rotary Film Evaporator to suit different process needs. Some of the standard design variations are:
Dual Receivers
This configuration allows continuous drain without breaking the process vacuum. The two receivers are connected in parallel so that at any given point of time, the condensate is being collected in one of them.
Once this receiver is full and needs to be drained out, the valve above it is closed, and the condensate is taken in the second receiver.
This way, the system vacuum is not disturbed during draining.
Dual Condensers
This design is used when immediate condensation of the vapours is required. Two condensers are placed in parallel, and the condensate is directly collected in the receivers.
This ensures 100% solvent recovery. This design can also be modified for continuous operation.
ATEX-Compliant
The Rotavap contains a lot of electric components — two sets of drive (one for rotation and other for bath lifting) and a control panel.
We do understand that a lot of applications require the Rotovap to be used in Zone 0 / 1 / 2 hazardous classified area and hence we have a model with all electrical components and connection which comply to these stringent requirements.
Multiple MOCs
The contact parts with process media are strictly Borosilicate Glass 3.3 and PTFE. However, the couplings, skid etc do not come in contact with the process media and can be offered in various MOCs (Material of Construction) such as Stainless Steel grade 316 or 304, Mild Steel, etc.
The couplings can also be made of Bakelite to provide good resistance to corrosion in case the environment has exposure to corrosive gases. The fasteners can be PTFE coated to improve their life.

5. Other Evaporation Alternatives to Rotovap
There are few other Process Equipments which have similar functionality as Rotary Evaporator and are used specially for Evaporation.
1)Falling Film Evaporator
A Falling Film Evaporator is essentially similar to a Vertical Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger in construction. The process fluid enters the evaporator from top and flows in a thin film along the walls of tubes. The same is instantly converted into vapour by the hot utility flowing in the shell. This Evaporator is completely custom designed as per the process requirement.
2)Wiped Film Evaporator
A wiped Film Evaporator is essentially a thin film Evaporator (TFE) just like a rotovap. It works on the principle of the thermal separation of products in a mechanically generated, thin and highly turbulent liquid film along the outer surface of the evaporator.

How I Gave My Rolling Camera Case DIY Giant Wheels
The Think Tank Logistics Manager 30 is my absolute favorite when it comes to all the camera bags, tripods, photo bags, and other bags I own for my flash equipment, tripod, and cameras. But, like almost all rolling bags, it’s mostly made for being taken indoors at airports, offices or other places with flat floors.
With the slightly silly undersized skateboard-like wheels, it is already difficult or impossible to use on gravel or paved asphalt roads, much less on grass.
I recently completed a homemade DIY project that gave my roller bag giant, baby carriage wheels. This is the first version that works very well, but I plan to make a slightly smarter and more stylish solution.
With my creation, it has become easy to bring heavy lightning and equipment into nature. Here’s the step-by-step guide:
Step 1. Buy a Think Tank Logistics Manager 30
Check out the product page for information on this case. It can hold 2 to 3 big flashes (e.g. the Profoto B1/B2) plus two cameras, some lenses, and a lot of other small equipment you need to bring. You can also hang tripod and other things on the outside.
Step 2. Remove the Inner Bag
Find the zipper that holds the inner, padded bag to the shell itself. Perhaps you need to look under a tab, as the zipper can be a little hidden. Then detach the inner bag from the outer shell using the Velcro connectors.
Step 3. Buy an Axle and Wheels
I first bought a metal rod (10mm, I think), thinking this project would be easy. Then I bought light and durable wheels from Tellus at Fridhemsplan in Stockholm.
The problem was that the wheels have a quick-lock mechanism that locks the wheel to the axle, and this requires a small groove for attachment. If you have a tool at home that can cut a groove of a few millimeters on each side of your round axle, you could do that.
I asked a local bicycle repairer if they could help me do this, but that route would have taken too much time, so I found another solution.
I was looking for strollers from people in my area, and luckily found someone who had an old Brio Sitty stroller. The classic and simple stroller happened to have the right axle width for the wheels, and it fits perfectly outside of a Logistics Manager 30. I do not know the width of the larger Think Tank rolling bags, but maybe it’s the same and this part is compatible with them too?
Step 4. Buy an Aluminum U Channel
For this piece of my project, I had a thousand different ideas. In the end, I chose the one by which I could actually finish the job without spending too much.
Measure the piece and trim it to fit your wheel axle and bag. You can buy plastic edging to place on each end to protect from the sharp corners.
Step 5. Drill Holes in Your Case
I chose to put the holes near the edge of the bag, where it is reinforced by a large plastic part that contains the original wheels. The bag itself is a lot of corrugated plastic, so look for a location that’s the most sturdy place on the bag.
I’m going to reinforce this hole location in the future inside if I notice that it bears too much stress. It might be enough to include a larger aluminum plate.
Step 6. Screw On the U Channel
The choice of the size of the profile was based on the diameter of the wheel axle plus some air to easily insulate it with a plastic cover. One on each edge plus one on the actual wheel axis made everything fit quite perfectly.
Step 7. Hold the Wheel Shaft with Pipe Insulation
The wheels spin on the axle, so the axel itself can be stationary on the rolling bag. In order to easily tighten the axle and the rest of the parts, I bought pipe insulation that can easily be cut to the right size. Then I put it on top of the aluminum U channel and fixed everything with pipe clamps. The insulation provides shock absorption for the bag as it’s being wheeled around.
Step 8. Here’s the Finished Product!
Planning for Version Two
This was a working solution for preventing anger when pulling my ThinkTank Logistics Manager 30 and all the equipment it holds over gravel, rocks, nature, and more. Perhaps it’s not the most polished design, but it works and makes my job as a freelance photographer significantly easier.
The reason I made such a minimal solution is that it is going to be possible to remove it and use the bag with the regular wheels as well.
The next version will probably be a bit nicer and involve a light frame on the inside and four blocks in each corner. Two of them should have some form of bracket for the wheel axle but can be used without the big wheels as well.
Ideas for Think Tank
Think Tank: when you have made such a good bag, why fall short on the wheels? Or rather, why not make it more modular with different wheel choices?
If you had included a lightweight frame inside with some prepared attachment points, many more things would be possible.
The Cost of This Project
I bought the wheels and axle as part of a used stroller that cost me
As I said on Blocket, I bought the wheels and wheel axle from a pram, costing 150 Swedish Krona (~$17). I had already purchased other wheels from a store for about the same amount of money. The aluminum U channel, plastic edges, and pipe insulation might cost 20-30 kr (just a few dollars). I already have the screws and nuts.
So, the total cost of my project was about 300 kr (~$35). The assembly itself took just an hour.

Installing an EFI System Is Now a One-Day Affair
Electronic fuel injection, for the majority of its existence, was a complicated and unapproachable technology. It took miles of wires, pounds of sensors, and a prodigious level of tuning tact to make it function. Carburetors, on the other hand, took one fuel line and they worked—well. After a one-day swap into a Chevrolet C10 project truck, it’s easy to admit EFI isn’t the monster it once was. Holley’s Sniper EFI system is inline with a good ol’ carb in terms of simplicity and ease of installation, but far superior from a driveability standpoint. Installing one requires only the addition of an O2 sensor, a coolant temperature sensor, and some basic wiring (battery +/-, ignition hot, and tach signal). Anyone who’s installed an ignition box is more than up to the task. The system uses a few basic questions, inputted via a handheld controller to create a base fuel map capable of starting and running the engine. From there, it self-learns the engine’s wants and needs, trimming and adding fuel wherever necessary. Here are a few tips and tricks gathered from a hands-on installation, along with some must-know tuning advice straight form Holley.
Fuel-System Requirements
A stock mechanical pump is incompatible with EFI, so a high-pressure electric unit will be required. To keep costs down, we used a Summit Racing external pump (PN SUM-G3138). It works great, but is extremely loud. A better—albeit more expensive—solution is an in-tank pump, which runs cooler and quieter. The Sniper has an internal fuel-pressure regulator and connections for -6 AN fittings on the inlet and outlet. It’s important that a fuel-injection-compatible fuel line be used. Failure to do so can cause pressure fluctuations in the lines, which make tuning impossible, or worse yet, catastrophic failure or fire.
Sensors and Wiring
If you can’t weld, a clamp-on connector is provided to mount the O2 sensor. Be careful to mount it at 10- or 2-o’clock position around the exhaust pipe’s circumference to prevent moisture buildup, which will kill the sensor. One of the most critical inputs the Sniper needs to run is a tach signal. Fuel-injection maps utilize KPA (load) as the Y-axis and rpm as the X-axis. A bad tach signal renders the fuel map useless, and the engine will run terribly. If running an HEI distributor, there can be an issue with a noisy signal coming out of the distributor’s tach connection, and the rpm readout on the handheld will jump around. This application used an HEI with no problems, but if a stable rpm signal is missing, an ignition box renders an easy fix. Holley also offers a dual-sync distributor that will allow the Sniper to control ignition timing as well as fuel.
Tuning For Individual Applications
Things like vehicle weight, gearing, and thousands of other minute factors have an effect on tuning, and while the Sniper’s ability to self-learn is truly impressive, it can need some user input in a few areas. “We’ve made a system that will bolt on to just about anything, and with a few simple questions [cylinder count, engine size, and cam type], build a map that will make it run—and better than the carb,” Layman says. “The tables capture about 80 percent, but you will always have the 20 percent that are unique combinations with special tuning needs, and that’s why we include the advance tuning options.”
In this application, those tuning needs came in the form of hot starting and acceleration enrichment, both of which were smoothed out via finessing on the handheld controller.
Inside the Sniper software, there are two ways to tune the engine: basic and advanced. “Everything in the basic area is controlled by a slider bar, which means when you shift it up, you globally shift the whole table up or down,” Layman says. “But if you go into the advance tuning area, you can manipulate the shape of the curves.” The advanced area allows users to delve deeper into the tune and make more significant changes. It’s not for novices, as changes can significantly alter the way the car runs. But, says Layman, “The beauty of the handheld is you can save your tune at any time, or start from scratch and create another base map with the wizard.”
With the Sniper installed, the C10 cold-started better than ever. But once the coolant temperature rose, it became difficult to re-fire. Layman recommends a few ways to improve hot start: prime shot and intake air control (IAC) hold position. “If you find you need to put your foot on the peddle and give the engine a little bit of extra air for it to fire, that’s an indication of too much cranking fuel or too little airflow. You can open the IAC up in the advance idle settings by adjusting IAC park position to let more air in or reduce the amount of fuel prime.” Both functions are tunable by temperature in the advance tuning section. Increasing the IAC hold position solved the problem.
The other issue was a stumble on initial acceleration. Much like the pump shot of a carburetor, the Sniper has an acceleration enrichment feature that provides fuel on throttle tip-in. In the basic tuning portion of the software, this can be increased or decreased by a slider bar, whereas the advanced tuning section allows it to be precisely dialed in based on either manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor or throttle position sensor (TPS) change.
In this instance, the basic tuning section sufficed and throttle tip-in became crisp. The old workhorse is back on the road, running better than ever and drinking substantially less fuel in the process. The next step is to download Holley’s free tuning software and see how much more performance can be coaxed from the engine.
This old C10 has been a reliable shop truck for years and has never been off the road longer than a weekend in its 47-year existence. EFI will make it even more reliable than it already is.
The Sniper was paired with a fresh dual-plane intake from Summit Racing.
The Sniper fits in place of a carb and needs only a few simple electrical and fuel connections to run.
We utilized an external fuel pump from Summit Racing to keep costs as low as possible. An in-tank pump is a better, quieter option if it’s in your budget.
This clamp-on O2 sensor mount eliminates the need to weld—simply drill and clamp.
A block-off plate will be necessary if moving from a mechanical to an electric pump.
This handheld is the interface through which the sniper is controlled. It offers both basic and advanced tuning capabilities and can act as a standalone gauge pod. Holley also offers free, downloadable software that further expands the Sniper’s tuning abilities.
How It’s Made
Sniper ECUs are designed through the combined efforts of Holley’s Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Manitoba, Canada, operations. Additional ECU manufacturing is being added to MSD’s El Paso, Texas, facility to keep up with demand. Sniper throttle-bodies are machined at Holley’s headquarters in Bowling Green.

Deep well pump assembly requirements
If the well is slightly deflected, the pump seat should be deflected accordingly (do not simply correct the level of the pump seat); the gap between the pump seat and the foundation should be Wedge fill.
Second, the long axis of deep well pump should still meet the following requirements: 1. When the drive shaft is connected to each other, the two shaft end faces should be fit, the depth of the two shafts into the coupling should be equal; The motor and the pump seat should be tightly fitted, during which no pad, such as the motor shaft and the motor hollow shaft is different from the axis of the pump and the base should be adjusted between the oblique horn.
Third, the diving deep well pump should meet the following requirements: 1. Pump and motor assembly, the motor should be filled with water to the submersible motor filled with clean water; 2.
