A U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet, operating from the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group underway in the North Atlantic Ocean, intercepts two U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) B-1B Lancers as they enter the Canadian Air Defense Identification Zone, and again as they enter the Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Region, May 29, 2020. The intercepts were part of a U.S. Northern Command-led, large-scale homeland defense exercise. U.S. Northern Command's top priority is homeland defense, and leading complex multi-combatant command operations across multiple domains demonstrates USNORTHCOM’S readiness to defend the homeland regardless of COVID-19. The high-end homeland defense exercises are being executed by the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group. (U.S. Navy photo by Lt. Neil Armstrong)

Navy Deploys Destroyer USS Sampson to NORTHCOM Sam LaGrone – June 3, 2025 11:13 PM USS Sampson (DDG-102) conducts a routine port call onboard Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Port Hueneme on Nov. 15, 2024. US Navy Photo A West Coast destroyer departed on Tuesday as the latest ship to deploy in support of operations in U.S. Northern Command, reads a statement from U.S. Fleet Forces. USS Sampson (DDG-102) left from San Diego to relieve the Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship USS Charleston (LCS-18), “continuing the Navy’s role in maritime operations that support national security priorities,” reads the statement. “The deployment is part of the Department of Defense’s support to national objectives along the U.S. southern border, following Presidential directives and ongoing interagency efforts to improve border security and homeland defense.” Sampson, like Charleston, has a Coast Guard law enforcement detachment during its deployment. Embarked LEDETs have been a centerpiece of Navy support for the overall anti-trafficking effort in U.S. Southern Command for decades as part of Campaign Martillo. “As a surface combatant assigned to Destroyer Squadron 9, Sampson brings robust multi-mission capabilities to the task of defending U.S. sovereignty and supporting homeland defense operations in coordination with USNORTHCOM,” reads a statement. Destroyers from both coasts have been dispatched to the border to support anti-trafficking and immigration operations. Last week in the Caribbean Sea, USS Gravely (DDG-107) and LEDET 401 seized $13.5 million in cocaine, USNI News reported. CLARIFYING THE MILITARY’S ROLE IN PROTECTING THE TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF THE UNITED STATES
Jack: On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order titled "Clarifying the Military’s Role in Protecting the Territorial Integrity of the United States." This order directs the Secretary of Defense to revise the Unified Command Plan, assigning U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) the mission to "seal the borders" and maintain the nation's sovereignty by repelling forms of invasion, including unlawful mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling, and other criminal activities. The order emphasizes the President's constitutional duty to protect the nation's borders and addresses the ongoing national emergency at the southern border. whitehouse.gov Imani Jefferson: This executive order is deeply troubling as it militarizes immigration enforcement and frames migration as an invasion, which is both legally and morally questionable. Deploying the military to handle issues traditionally managed by civilian agencies like Customs and Border Protection risks violating the Posse Comitatus Act, which restricts the use of federal troops in domestic law enforcement. Moreover, treating migrants, many of whom are asylum seekers fleeing violence and persecution, as invaders undermines international humanitarian principles and could lead to significant human rights violations. Preston Bancroft: While the concerns about militarization are understandable, the executive order addresses pressing national security threats that have overwhelmed civilian agencies. The surge in illegal crossings, drug trafficking, and human smuggling necessitates a robust response to protect American citizens. Assigning USNORTHCOM the mission to secure the borders ensures a coordinated and effective approach, utilizing the military's resources and expertise to support and reinforce existing border security measures. This action underscores the administration's commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the nation's sovereignty. Imani Jefferson: However, this approach sets a dangerous precedent by normalizing military involvement in domestic affairs, which could erode civil liberties and lead to the excessive use of force. It also diverts military resources from their primary defense missions. A more effective solution would involve comprehensive immigration reform, increased support for border communities, and addressing the root causes of migration through foreign policy initiatives. We must balance security concerns with our democratic values and commitment to human rights. Preston Bancroft: The executive order provides a clear directive to address an urgent crisis at our borders. By empowering the military to assist in securing the nation's territorial integrity, it ensures that all available resources are utilized to protect the American people. This decisive action aims to restore order and safety, demonstrating the administration's resolve to confront challenges that threaten national security.

Pentagon Calls Russia About Trump Emergency Declaration—Biden Then Asks “Can We Be Friends?”
By: Sorcha Faal,
An informative new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today says based on the protocols outlined in the 2017 agreement made between the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the United States Department of Defense (DoD) for “enhanced communications to avoid unintended incidents”, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley initiated an urgent phone conversation with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov early this morning to explain the sudden mass movement of American combat forces being directed by the United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM)—a mass movement of these combat forces coming at the same time the official US State Department website announced that both President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence had resigned from office—that was quickly followed by a bizarre amount of Marine One helicopter activity being detected over the Vice President's Residence at the Naval Observatory.
A conversation wherein General Milley assured General Gerasimov that both President Trump and Vice President Pence were still in office, and that the official notice saying otherwise was put out by an unnamed “disgruntled staffer”—then saw General Milley explaining that the sudden movement of NORTHOCOM military forces is for domestic reasons, not foreign, and were lawfully initiated by an emergency declaration signed by President Trump to last from 11 January to 24 January—a mass troop movement General Milley said was further supported by a just issued FBI bulletin warning: “Armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols from 16 January through at least 20 January, and at the U.S. Capitol from 17 January through 20 January”.
Explanations made by General Milley that were then examined for accuracy and truthfulness by the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), whose analysts conclude no such “armed protests” are being planned anywhere in America, and note that conservative pro-Trump social media sites throughout the US are posting thousands of messages like: “WARNING: DO NOT ATTEND Armed Protests at State Capitols Before Inauguration! – POSSIBLE SINISTER PLOT HATCHED BY RADICAL LEFT TO TAKE AWAY GUN RIGHTS!”—facts leading SVR analysts to conclude this “armed protests” warning is a leftist media-Deep State-socialist Democrat Party generated charade designed to ignite anti-Trump fear and hysteria—evidence of which can be seen in how these malign forces are spreading leftist media articles like “Justice Dept. Pursues at Least 150 Suspects in Capitol Riot” on the front pages of newspapers throughout America, that stands opposed to them saying nothing about the over 10,000 leftist terrorists arrested in the US by early June-2020 alone—up to 95% of whom were linked to the radical Marxist Black Lives Movement and caused up to $2-billion in damage as they rampaged, burnt and looted numerous American cities—and at no point in time while these leftist terrorists reigned, did USNORTHCOM activate its military forces to protect either American lives or property.
Troubling events causing Security Council Members to more closely examine other possible causes for these sudden mass troop movements—with them specially noting US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warning lawmakers about the Chinese Communist Party yesterday saying: “This fight is inside the gates today…Containing where they are today, leave them in our institutions of higher learning…It leaves them in our high schools; it leaves them in our PTA groups…It leaves them inside our city councils and our state legislatures all across America…This is a deep effort that has been going on for 50 years…Republicans and Democrats alike refuse to deal with it, and we started to and did”—a warning quickly followed by the release of a new report showing that entities linked to the Communist Chinese military gave nearly $90-million to American universities—and itself was preceded by the shocking grave news that the University of Alabama is now under a US federal criminal investigation for its ties to the Wuhan-China lab where the coronavirus was created.
Events that explain why President Trump destroyed the “One China Policy” this past week, and is now sending Ambassador Kelly Craft to Taiwan for the first visit by an American official there since 1968—actions that yesterday caused Communist China to warn that President Trump “is heading down a dangerous path”—but in reality is a “dangerous path” now belonging to socialist leader Joe Biden, and is why Professor Srikanth Kondapalli at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University has just issued his warning stating: “There is a serious “danger of escalation” if the incoming Joe Biden administration in the US doesn't roll back the outgoing Trump administration's weekend decision to remove the self-imposed restrictions on ties between Taiwan and Washington”.
A “danger of escalation” fully known about by socialist leader Biden, who astonishingly yesterday did a “Can we be friends?” turnabout on Russia—with his first issuing an invitation to Russia to attend his inauguration, then him announcing that he had appointed William Burns to be his CIA Director—the same William Burns who was the American ambassador to Russia between 2005 and 2008 during the President George W. Bush administration—and the exact same William Burns who masterminded the great friendship between President Bush and President Putin to end the Cold War—thus leading one to wonder how soon it will be before socialist leader Biden is dancing to Russian folk songs like President Putin and President Bush used to do. U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman returns from deployment
The U.S. Navy has announced that the Nimitz-class carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) returned home June 16, marking the end of their deployment after operating in the U.S. 2nd, 5th and 6th Fleets.
Following a return from deployment in March after operating in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet, Truman remained underway in the Western Atlantic during their sustainment phase of the OFRP cycle as a certified and ready carrier force ready for tasking. As the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the globe, the Truman continued to conduct operations underway, minimizing the potential spread of the virus aboard the ships, in order to maintain maritime stability and security and ensure access, deter aggression, and defend U.S., allied and partner interests.
Truman sailed over 56,000 nautical miles, deploying dynamically to support dual-carrier operations, air defense exercises, anti-submarine warfare exercises, and interoperability with joint services and with allies and partners. The ship also completed multiple strait and choke point transits, to include the Strait of Gibraltar, the Suez Canal and the Bab-el Mandeb Strait, while operating under three Combatant Commanders – U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM), U.S. European Command (EUCOM), and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
Truman demonstrated the Navy’s continuing regional commitment to EUCOM and CENTCOM areas of responsibility by hosting 80 embarked guests, including political and military leaders from eight ally and partner nations. These embarks directly supported U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet theater security objectives and greatly enhanced U.S. relationships and partnerships with multiple NATO ally and partner nations and GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) members.
“I’m so very proud of all our Sailors!” said Capt. Kavon Hakimzadeh, commanding officer of Truman. “Their resilience, perseverance, and utter dedication to mission has been nothing short of exemplary. It has been my greatest honor to serve as Truman’s commanding officer this deployment!”
Throughout the deployment, Truman performed numerous training exercises to develop tactical competencies. From carrier strike force operations as the flagship of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG), to exercises with partner navies and forces, the ship developed key skillsets to maintain readiness and interoperability. While conducting stability operations in the CENTCOM area of responsibility, the strike group was called upon during an international crisis to assert American commitment to the region and act as a primary de-escalatory catalyst.
“The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group has been the ready force for the nation these past months,” said Rear Adm. Ryan Scholl, commander, Carrier Strike Group 8. “Truman operated closely with our allies and partners, supporting our forward commanders in U.S 5th and 6th Fleets and executing missions supporting homeland defense in U.S. 2nd Fleet. All the strike group units performed above and beyond what was asked of them and did so with amazing dedication. It is an honor and a privilege to serve with them as their commander!”
In the Western Atlantic, the HSTCSG conducted a week of naval air integration exercises with Marine Corps elements assigned to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2nd MAW). The purpose of the high-end training was to improve Navy and Marine Corps integration, communication, power projection in the form of strikes, and enhance readiness of air defense assets.
Truman concluded their operations underway by participating in a U.S. Northern Command-led exercise Vigilant Osprey, a major service-integrated homeland defense exercise aimed to strengthen operational partnerships alongside forces from Canada, Denmark, and the U.S. Air Force. The joint, multi-domain operations with Allies in the Atlantic Ocean, demonstrated North American Aerospace Defense Command’s (NORAD) ability to defend Canada and the U.S. and U.S. Northern Command’s (USNORTHCOM) ability to defend the homeland. The training operation included U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM) directed aircraft simulating attempts to penetrate U.S. airspace, U.S. Space Command (SPACECOM) directed capabilities, and USNORTHCOM using the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Truman and her accompanying carrier strike group to exercise combined, high-end, multi-domain tactics, techniques and procedures.
The HSTCSG proved the U.S. Navy can be a predictable strategic partner, displaying commitment to deterring aggression while facing emerging threats around the globe.
Truman has spent at least one day underway for 32 of the last 36 months, in direct support of global security around the world. Truman is home ported at Naval Station Norfolk.
Truman’s return marks the final homecoming for the strike group. HSTCSG consists of the flagship USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) with embarked staffs of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 8, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 28; embarked squadrons of CVW 1; guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60); and DESRON 28 guided-missile destroyers USS Lassen (DDG 82), USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98), and USS Farragut (DDG 99).
Squadrons of CVW-1 include Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 11 “Red Rippers;” VFA-81 “Sunliners;” VFA-136 “Knighthawks;” VFA-211 “Fighting Checkmates;” Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 137 “Rooks;” Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 126 “Seahawks;” Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 72 “Proud Warriors;” Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 11 “Dragon Slayers;” and a detachment from Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 40 “Rawhides.”

Fifty-one years ago, the Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado began serving as the control center for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
The facility was meant to serve as a form of defense against Soviet Union bombers during the Cold War.
Today, Cheyenne Mountain serves as the a command center for NORAD and the U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), according to NORAD’s website.
Community members will get the inside scoop about the center on November 4.
Col. Jeff Caton, a retired member of the United States Air Force (USAF), will give a presentation on the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center (CMOC) at 1 p.m.
The Cold War Museum is hosting the event, which will take place at the Old Bust Head Brewing Company in Warrenton.
From 1994 to 1996, Caton oversaw the Space Operations Center’s Delta Crew and acted as standardization chief for the operations of the command center.
Even though the Cold War had ended when he began working at CMOC, tensions between the United States and Soviet Union helped develop many of the procedures he used.
After the presentation, attendees will be able to tour the Cold War Museum.
Tickets, which are available for purchase on eventbrite, are $25.
They cover the presentation, a $7 coupon for a drink, and a $10 contribution to the museum.
Any tickets available at the door will cost $35.
Individuals unable to attend the presentation can purchase a ticket and watch it online after the event.
