LeBron James faces scrutiny for entering USC arena while national anthem plays, sitting down as song plays
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James faced criticism on Tuesday for how he entered the Galen Center to watch his son, Bronny, play in his first collegiate game following his cardiac arrest of the summer. Orange County Register reporter Luca Evans posted the video on X of James walking into the arena with his younger son Bryce and two of his Sierra Canyon High School teammates. The video showed…

NBA legend LeBron James’ 19-year-old son does this five months after suffering a cardiac arrest
Tumblr media
On Sunday, less than five months after experiencing cardiac arrest, Bronny James, the 19-year-old son of NBA star LeBron James, made his NCAA basketball debut.
On Sunday, less than five months after going into cardiac arrest during practice, Bronny James, the 19-year-old son of NBA superstar LeBron James, made his NCAA basketball debut. After coming off the bench in the first half of the University of Southern California’s 84-79 overtime loss against Long Beach State, Bronny James watched the play on his cellphone while his well-known father watched from courtside.
With three rebounds, two assists, two thefts, a block, and two minutes of play, James scored four points. He resumed training with his USC colleagues immediately after receiving medical clearance to resume basketball workouts in November.
Due to his father’s scrutiny, James was a highly sought-after high school talent who decided to play at USC in May. However, after a workout in July, he passed out and spent three days in the hospital. In August, his family disclosed that he had undergone treatment for a congenital cardiac abnormality.
In the post-game interview, Bronny James expressed his gratitude for everything but declined to answer any questions from the media. Thanking his family, his coaches, and the Mayo Clinic personnel for their assistance “during this difficult period in my life,” he expressed gratitude.
The Galen Center in downtown Los Angeles was crowded as LeBron James entered the courtside seats with his daughter Zhuri and son Bryce, a high school basketball player for Sierra Canyon.
After entering the game with 12:58 left in the first half, Bronny James was met with a standing ovation. Though he didn’t score in the first half, he made a big impression with a chase-down block that resembled his well-known father’s style. Once more getting supporters, including his father, up and cheering, he scored his first basket in the second half.
LeBron James stated on Thursday that his son’s comeback to the court meant “everything and more.”
“I can’t wait to see him run out with his teammates,” James added. “Whenever that case may be, it will be a significant event for our family once he logs into the game.
“It’s a big milestone for our family, for sure, and it’s another step for him on his journey in his basketball career.”
The scene was captured on X, formerly Twitter, by Dwyane Wade, who collaborated with LeBron James to win two NBA titles in Miami. “Watching Bronny walk out on that court gave me chills,” Wade wrote on Twitter. “Welcome back to the game you love, Bronny”
Another shout-out came from Phoenix Suns player Kevin Durant, who said, “Welcome back Bronny.”

How Long Beach State prepared for Bronny James' debut and won
Sunday, December 10, 2023 8:14PM
Tumblr media
Long Beach State tried to stay cool.
The Beach were about to play the biggest college basketball game of the weekend, thanks to Bronny James, who was set to make his Division I debut for USC five months after suffering cardiac arrest during a workout in July.
The lines outside Galen Center -- where the school announced a sellout on Friday once the freshman star's debut was announced -- snaked down the street. Tickets on the secondary market had sold for hundreds -- and in some cases, thousands -- of dollars. LeBron James, Bronny's dad, was rumored to be attending. Still, the Beach believed they had settled down by the time tipoff approached.
As the national anthem echoed through the speakers in the arena, however, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar entered the building, and the entire roster turned their heads.
"LeBron is about 6-foot-9, 240 pounds. … Of course we all noticed him," LBSU junior Jadon Jones, who finished with 18 points and eight rebounds after LBSU upset USC 84-79, told ESPN. "The crowd erupted as soon as his face was on the jumbotron. We saw Rich Paul there."
When Bronny entered Sunday's game early in the first half, the crowd cheered. The USC fans rose to their feet whenever he touched the ball. And they roared after his chase-down block on Jones. He followed the play with an assist to Vincent Iwuchukwu, his USC teammate who had also suffered cardiac arrest in 2022 during a team workout.
And just like that, the Trojans fed off the energy and entered halftime with a double-digit lead.
Facing Bronny & Co. in that building was going to be more difficult than Long Beach State had imagined.
"We just didn't fight early in the game," said longtime LBSU head coach Dan Monson.
Nearly 72 hours earlier, Monson forgot he was in a room full of Gen Z kids. He told his players that they weren't "the Washington Generals."
He was, of course, referring to the old nemesis of the Harlem Globetrotters, the flashy assembly known for its trick shots and dribbling maneuvers in the 1960s and 1970s. The Generals rarely won when the two teams played. Monson's point was that Long Beach State had a chance against the Trojans.
There was just one problem.
"None of them knew what I was talking about," Monson said.
But he also reminded them that Sunday's game could be memorable.
"There are a lot of games that come and go and you're not going to remember them," he said he told his team. "This is one of those games, for good or bad, you're going to remember the rest of your life because of the circumstances. You have to play with emotion, but you can't be emotional."
When he tried to revive the Washington Generals metaphor again at halftime, his team finally seemed to get it, and returned for the second half with renewed energy. Then Bronny made his first shot: a 3-pointer from the wing with 13:10 to go in the game.
All the talk about staying focused and poised seemed to disappear with the crowd on fire.
As the Beach looked around the arena and heard the noise, they realized they had entered an environment unlike anything they had seen in the past.
"I had to call a timeout," Monson said. "I had to settle that down a little bit. When he hit that 3-pointer, the crowd was at a decibel level few arenas will get to this year."
As play continued, though, he also noticed a strange change come over his team's opponent.
In the first half, the Bronny hype had driven the Trojans and fueled an emotional charge. In the second half, however, they began to show signs of fatigue. Maybe the pregame pageantry had been a lot for USC, too, he wondered.
Just like that, the game started swinging in LBSU's favor, and regulation ended with USC -- a 13.5-point favorite entering the game -- heading to overtime with the Beach, a stunning reversal.
"Our first thing was just to stay calm," Jones said about his team's comeback.
The Beach understood the crowd would be large and the atmosphere would reflect the moment. At the same time, they weren't really worried about Bronny, who finished the game with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and 1 block in 17 minutes off the bench. The Beach figured it would take time for him to adjust in his first college game. Veteran Boogie Ellis and freshman Isaiah Collier, the projected No. 1 pick in ESPN's latest NBA mock draft, were the bigger threats.
"To be honest, Bronny wasn't our biggest priority in the scout," Jones said. "He's a good young player. But he's still a freshman in his first game."
Ellis and Collier tried to carry their team through overtime, but the game ended with Long Beach State pulling off the upset and winning its first game at USC since 1987.
Monson didn't focus on the result as he went through the handshake line. The game, he said, was a celebration of Bronny's recovery more than anything else.
"I told Bronny after the game, 'Congratulations,'" he said. "What he's been through is way bigger than this game. To see him back out there and his proud dad there and his mom, that's way more important than anything else."
Once they finished celebrating the victory, the Beach showered, got dressed and hopped onto their team bus for the 40-minute ride back to campus, thinking about the way they had played spoiler on Bronny's big night, and how they could use the win to fuel success the rest of the season.
"They got ahead of us quickly," Jones said. "But we were able to calm the storm."

To lease or not to Lease (pt.1)
Hello readers!! This weeks blog post will talk about my personal experience my experience in dorm life at UofSC Columbia. Because I value personal experiences, and believe that the best way to learn more about certain topics is through communicating with others; so I will be communicating with you all!
This particular blog post will go over my experience living at Patterson Hall, which is one of the freshman-based dorms near the center of the UofSC campus!
Room selection: Because I elected to be a part of Galen Health fellows (a health centered Living Learning Community in Patterson Hall); I was guaranteed a room no matter if it said there were no rooms available to people who weren't apart of Galen. However, since my room selection time and date was later than my roommate, she chose the room after we both looked over the floorplans. At the time you could not see what the room itself looked like but you could look at the floor plan of the time and they had models of what typical dorms looked like. One thing I did not like about this process was that the site tended to crash a lot and if you thought your room selection processed its very possible it didn't since they were having issues with he website. There was also another issue where people who weren't a part of living learning communities were unable to get housing due to rooms and beds running out (the university had to add bunk beds to some rooms, and you paid a reduced price, but you were sharing a space that only one person was meant to have). To make a long story short me and my roommate were able to get one of the corner rooms (unfortunately we couldn't see what it looked like inside since they didn't have any models of it online nor did they have the specifications either), after battling with the website.
Moving in: Both me and my roommate had issues selecting move in times because the website was messing up again, but after doing so the process itself wasn't too bad. Move in day itself is a bit hectic but there are a lot of guides, and the RAs were very helpful. They give you a cart composed of a flat wheel trolly and a big cardboard box to move all your stuff in (it is a bit dysfunctional but you're able to make it work). I would advise taking pictures of the room and inspecting it before moving all your stuff in, so you don't get charged for things previous students did. I would also advise deep cleaning and disinfecting before actually moving your stuff into the room.
Room checks: One con about living on campus is you are subject to room checks (even if you are in an apartment). Thankfully for me my RA did not force us to be present for room checks but some RA's / Dorms or school do, so keep that in mind as well.
Parking: Because USC Columbia is downtown, parking is very limited and is more expensive than other schools in the state of South Carolina. I paid $800 last year ($400 per semester) for a garage parking pass. Many students including myself do not like the parking situations on campus. There are usually not parking spaces available in front of most of the dorms (which makes things totally inaccessible for people who need accommodations), if you buy the $110 parking pass you are not guaranteed a spot at the lot you'd prefer and because those lots are very spread out you may have to walk 20-30 minutes to get to your destination (this can be very unsafe especially at night). Another issue is USC does not have enough parking passes for every student so once they run out that is it.
This will be it for this blog post since my experience is a long one and I do want to give all the details (without making the posts super long)! With that being said stay tuned for another post with a continuation of my on campus experience (will be posted later this week) and why I decided not to continue living on campus (this story will more likely be posted next week).
Until then, you've been rick rolled.

JuJu Watkins is the future for USC
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (News4usonline) - JuJu Watkins is not only the best freshman player in college basketball, but she is also one of the best college players in the country. Watkins is No. 2 in the nation only behind Caitlin Clark in most points per game. She is an offensive machine that can take over a game at any moment and has the USC Trojans ranked No. 7 in women’s college basketball. Making the AP All-American First Team solidifies just how a player Watkins is.
Tumblr media
USC Trojans women's basketball star JuJu Watkins has had a phenomenal freshman season. Photo credit: Ser Baffo/News4usonline Watkins came into the season ranked as the No. 1 player in the 2023 high school class, according to ESPN and she has showed why she was ranked as the best. She has shown her offensive skills while helping the Trojans win 26 games (26-5 overall) and putting them as the second seed for the Pac-12 tournament. Watkins has arguably become the best offensive player that USC women’s basketball has ever had. That is saying a lot with names like Cheryl Miller and Lisa Leslie, who are also former Trojans. Watkins broke several astonishing records, including the most points ever by a USC freshman (810 and counting), the most points scored at Galen Center (42), and the one that put the world on notice: USC’s single-game scoring record with 51 points at Stanford. “I’m still shaking it was a great game I’m just glad we got the dub,” said Watkins after her 51-point performance. Watkins excitement about winning the game was more than the emotions she showed after the record she had broken. That makes her a player that any coach would want on their team. Reportedly, Watkins had a bad game before USC played Stanford. According to reports, Watkins worked hours after the game on her shot. She was working so late on her shot that security called coach Lindsay Gottlieb to ask if they should kick her out. Her determination to help her team win is visible when she plays. “Her demeanor from the second that game ended against Washington ‘til now is what sets her apart to me more than these numbers. I mean, all week I said this kid is different. She’s special the way she takes coaching, the way she’s a teammate, the way she holds herself accountable, the way she raises her level," Gottlieb remarked. "But I think that what is so special about her is everything like inside and obviously it came out today in a way that if you love basketball, I don’t know how you’re not blown away,” Gottlieb added. said about Watkins after her record-breaking night in Stanford. Watkins is definitely one of the best scorers, but what makes her even scarier is that she has room for improvement. With this only being her freshman year, she has more years to make herself one of the best college players ever. Even though she is averaging 27 points per game, her shooting percentage from the field is 40 percent. She is averaging more turnovers than assists. Adding more assists could help her game and her team become better. On nights when her shot is not going down her ability to take it to the rim is amazing. She can either score, get fouled and open things for her team. Watkins is a great free-throw shooter, so getting fouled works great for her and also helps her shoot the ball better. Watkins has a great team around her with McKenzie Forbes, Rayah Marshall, and sharp-shooting Kayla Padilla. She can get her assists numbers much higher especially with all teams looking to stop her by double-teaming or putting extra pressure on her.
Tumblr media
USC women's basketball star JuJu Watkins is averaging 27 points per game in her freshman season. Photo credit: Ser Baffo/News4usonline Watkins wears her emotions on her sleeves. When she makes any little mistake, she works even harder to fix it and players like that are hard to find. She is averaging more points her freshman year than Clark did her freshman year. If she can continue to grow, Watkins can truly be special. If she plays the way she has done in her freshman year, the conversation just might circle around Watkins breaking Clark's all-time scoring mark. Watkins would rather have championships just like when she scored 51 points. Watkins was more happy that her team picked up the win more than the points she scored. Watkins and the Trojans are a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Women's Tournament bracket. With that No. 1 seed, USC has secured home dates for the first two rounds of play at Galen Center. Watkins and the Trojans play No. 16. Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the first round. Should USC get past Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the first game, the Trojans would advance to the second round. There is no doubt that Gottlieb and the Trojans are hoping that Watkins lead the way. Read the full article
