Udang is mentioned in an Ilokano saying, “Yánud ti danúm ti matmatúrog nga udáng,” (Roughly: “A sleeping lobster gets carried away by the current”).
The Giant Freshwater Prawn can grow up to 1 foot in length, and is a popular aquaculture product in many areas in the Philippines, and elsewhere where tropical rivers are found. It is known as Kising-kising in Pangasinan, Paje in Palawan and Zamboanga, Padao in Cotabato, Kalig in Leyte, Budsang in Bicol and ulang in most parts of the country including Bulacan, Laguna, Zambales and others (M Tayamen 2005).
