Unbreakable Bond Headcanons

• when Tails’ fur has grown out quite a bit, sonic will tie up his long fur to give him lil pigtails

• Tails really likes Owl City, and will frequently play the albums on the speakers in his lab while he’s tinkering around on his projects. He finds the songs very relaxing to him….But when a banger or a really good part of a song comes on, he turns up the speaker volume and it becomes a dancing musical number in his lab. If sonic is there, it a dance off against his older brother…he gets no work done afterwards

• tails will randomly decide to fly up to the nearest tree, cling onto one of the branches and cry out to sonic for help, who will rush over and help bring him down safely. Tails will be like “thank you! 😊” and go back to his day. Meanwhile sonic stops and pauses, suddenly realising his baby brother was plenty capable of getting down himself in the first place

• Tails uses Scratch (it’s a fun, goofy lil coding program) to make silly little games for Cream or Charmy to play when he visits them. Sometimes he’ll teach his friends how to do a simple code on it.

• Often at times he will catch Sonic playing his scratch games. He’ll go into his brother’s room, and find the hedgehog sitting on his bed, face glued to the screen on his phone, his quills raised in deep concentration. Who knew his brother was so keen on trying to set the record for catching the most falling tacos?

• Sonic will look up to find his little brother leaning on the door frame. “Isn’t it a little too…I don’t know…childish, for you?” the fox teased, in which Sonic retorts in a backfiring of compliments and rambling on about what almost appears to be his newest addiction. Deep inside, Tails is overjoyed that his brother loves his work so much, despite its such simplicity.

• Sonic could look Tails dead in the eye, and still not catch a single word he said

Tails: …okay you copy that?

Sonic: …🙂 (imagine that small loading symbol over his head lol)

Tails: *sigh* so as I was saying…

• So in the Mario and Sonic Olympic Games (specifically the 2020 one) sonic does this victory emote in soccer when he scores a goal…I like to call it the Airplane..

Sonic heads outside about to go on another run, when he spots Tails running around doing the Airplane. Tails sees his brother and runs to meet him.

“Whatcha doin’ bud?” Sonic asks, ruffling his hand through the fur on the kit’s head

“I’m you!” He responds, explaining about his victory moves he did in the Olympics.

“You’re so cool..” Tails looks up at his older brother, his big baby blue eyes sparkling in admiration of his favourite person.

It took everything in Sonic’s being not to break down sobbing after those words.

Then Tails grabs Sonic’s hand, begging him to do the airplane with him.

Why go run anywhere else when you can run around in circles, being silly with your greatest admirer, supporter, fan…brother

Unbreakable Bond headcanon time:

This video gave me an idea of Sonic and Tails doing this when the kit was about 2, with the flash forwards being when he was 8, and them trying to recreate the poses while Sonic struggles to hold him for some since he's a bit heavy.

With Tails, of course, making it a but difficult due to his contagious laughter during all of this.

No one knows where Sonic lives.

Even in his so called world renowed hero status, there’s way too little that the general public knows about Sonic The Hedgehog, sure, they know what his favorite food is, they know the names of his friends, and they know when his birthday is, but they don’t know where is he from, how is he so fast, or what is his reason to fight.

They know about most of the times he has saved the world, but they don’t know why his shoes don’t get burned by his speed, they know he can turn into a god-like glowy golden being, but they don’t know how exactly the magical jewels that do that work, they know he’s unstoppable, but they don’t know why.

Most people don’t care that much about that kind of information, even if he’s a hero, that’s his own business, even heroes need privacy; but then there’s the curiosity, the enigma, the mystery, most of those questions will be left without a solid answer, but there’s a few that should have definitive one.

Where does someone who can run around the whole globe in a matter of hours live? There’s a lot of theories.

Sonic has enough fame to have several fan clubs all around the world, and between all those fan clubs there’s been a lingering interest in the enigma of where does sonic live, between all the other questions this one is the one that gets the most possible answers, considering factors like his speed, his well known crave for adventure, his love for nature, all of it could make the difference between the right answer and the wrong answer.

At certain point, the curiosity reaches to more general public apart from the fanatism prone, and when in opportunity to talk to him, a lot of people start asking him the same question: “where do you live?” the answers all equal and all different at the same time “right here in the same world as you” “it varies from time to time” “I don’t think you could visit me”

The vagueness, the confusing contradictions, the evasion of the subject; he’s doing this on purpose. They might not know a lot about the blue speedster, but now this sole data needs to be known.

They start asking Sonic’s acquaintances instead of the hedgehog himself, they know they’re not getting an answer out of him at this point, and if anyone could have one, his friends should know it. Turns out that they don’t know.

Most of his friends being more annoyed with the fact that not even they know where he lives than about the people sticking their noses to his friend’s business was a surprise to the masses, and underwhelming, backtracking, frustrating surprise.

There’s an anonymous user online who affirms that not even the hedgehog’s arch nemesis knows where Sonic lives. Reliable sources support the statement.

The waters of nonsense gossip calm down after some time, but the question still remains, left to be more of general curiosity than lingering mystery.

A random day in a random town, a news program happens to be live outside when the speedster passes by and stops to smell the flowers around the area, the reporters ask him for a small interview, he says they have till he finishes picking up enough flowers for a crown.

They ask the same question everyone has asked for quite some time, just a different word, “Sonic, where is your home?”

Apparently the accidental rephrasing change is what finally gets it, as the speedster just says “right now? should be at mystic ruins”

He runs off immediately, the reporters left speechless, the program still on air on TV’s and the web, and the world going wild.

They finally got a straight, solid, specific answer. “That can’t be true” “but it can” “it’s logical” “it’s not” “he must’ve been joking” “he sounded serious” and more and more discussions take place around that single interview, the fan clubs are theorizing again, the general public is now more curious, and the official news from all over the globe need to confirm this by themselves.

So they ask again.

A full week later, a different city in a different country, different news reporters don’t even bother to ask him for an interview, they just run to him the moment they see the blue blur pass by and ask him again “Sonic, where is your home?!” He yells his answer without stopping:

“Last time I checked was in Central City”.

“It’s a contradiction” “then he was joking before” “he might change where he lives weekly” “we need more proof” “that was way too specific again”.

A different continent, two days later, a group of kids manage to record him when he greets them from the other side of a mountain, they ask “Where is your home?!” He yells back “I’m not sure at the moment!”

The confusion only grows, now no one knows if he’s genuinely giving true answers or full ass lying, it would be logical for him to do either. The curiosity becomes a mystery again, and people are legitimately trying to track all the locations he has mentioned to find out what is this all about. Some people even try to track him down. They try.

A whole month later, there’s a celebration near sunset city, a commemoration of some sorts, there’s been a lot of battles in way too little time so people just try to think about the party rather than the motive for it. Sonic attends the celebration along some of his friends.

A local news channel manages to reach him at the chili dog stand where he is waiting for his food while talking to the two tailed fox everyone knows is his best friend. They don’t mean to interrupt, but these opportunities are limited.

They ask the same question, the same word change that they know works: “Sonic, where is your home?”

The blue blur hangs an arm around the kit’s shoulder in a half hug as he grins widely, he says loudly: “right now, it’s right here!”

This time his home was with him.

Headcanon that Sonic's version of any research, even if it's to check the meaning of a word or learning factual information about a topic, is asking Tails

Headcanon time:

Sonic will call Tails "Miles" only when

1) he's super upset with him (like kid going over 24h without sleep and he just needs the kid to listen and get some shut eye)

OR

2) he's super worried/terrified about his lil bro

Thinking about how Tails is technically being raised by Sonic.

Like, you have Tails, the child, he’s like 9 years old, 300 IQ, genius inventor who’s still learning and growing.

Then you have Sonic, the legal guardian, who’s like 16, fastest thing alive, free as a bird.

Sonic is very much a live your own way kind of person, and will support Tails on everything he does.

UNLESS THAT THING TAILS DOES IS UNHEALTHY OR DANGEROUS

Like, Tails is inventing, then something comes loose, and he goes “I can fix that in a few minutes! I just need to finish this first!” and suddenly Sonic is there telling him to do it now, because Tails would likely forget, and it could be bad news for him.

Skip out on a meal, or forget to eat something healthy at least once a day to keep the brain prower going? Sonic is there either reminding Tails and tailing him until he eats, or he infiltrates Tails’ kitchen to ensure he gets a warm nutritious meal instead of instant ramen. Sonic didn’t struggle to learn new recipes to keep a 4 year old healthy, just so the same kid can sabotage his health.

If Tails is injured and should be resting, you best believe Sonic is there taking care of him and making sure he doesn’t do anything stupid. Sonic wonders how this kid is alive. Sonic wonders what made Tails this way.

He realizes the answer is in the house. It’s him. He’s raising the kid, teaching him about life, and this kid is soaking up everything like a super absorbent sponge.

Tails has the greatest cheerleader ever. Sonic is his hero, his best friend, brother, mom, dad, and picket fence. He’s more of a parent to him than his bio parents ever was!

So what if every day is an adventure? Tails learned how to love and embrace opportunity!

Sonic showed him that as terrifying as the world is, you can use that to your advantage and make something of it. Change won’t happen if you sit around and wait for it!

Sonic is not the perfect role model by any means. He’s still a kid himself, with no business raising one. But he loves that kid with all he has, and wouldn’t change him for the world.

Can't stop thinking about Sonic getting sad because he misses all the cute little things Tails used to do when he was little that he's grown out of

imagine if, one day, sonic runs into one of tails’ parents

nothing really happens, there’s no epic showdown between the kid’s parent vs his new guardian. it’s just a normal conversation

let’s just say the parent is a journalist/reporter or something (i’m just gonna say it’s his mom)

him and tails are in spagonia for something. the kit is off talking with prof. pickle at the university and sonic is just walking around.

suddenly, a fox runs up to him, asking if she can interview him for some news site and of course he agrees. the cameras get set up and the interviewer begins speaking

“hello, this is ______ prower reporting to you from spagonia. im here with sonic the hedgehog!”

sonic stops listening until he gets asked questions. it has to be a coincidence, right? another fox with the surname prower? he realizes that this could be the kid’s mom. he doesn’t say anything about it, he just keeps it in mind

sometime in the middle of the interview, tails returns and sonic calls him over because who is the the hero of mobius without his partner? who is sonic the hedgehog with his little brother?

tails doesn’t recognize the reporter, but she recognizes him, sonic can tell

and so the hedgehog makes a big show of looping his arm around the kit and going on and on about how incredible he is (maybe he even adds in a little thing about being the kid’s legal guardian idk), leaving a very embarrassed tails and a very uncomfortable reporter

the two leave the interview early (sonic doesn’t want tails to hear the reporter’s name) and continue on with their day

(or if you want something more like sonic going mental at one or both of his parents, maybe something involving cps happens like they try to revoke his custody over tails after finding the parents or something. idk cps laws very well. just an idea)

Headcanon: Before Tails met Sonic, finding food was never a guarantee. He discovered pretty early that eating mint leaves would help curb his appetite when food was scarce.

Even now, after years of feeling safe while living with Sonic, he finds that mints are a huge comfort food for him.

With the New YEARS, I bring a Tails headcanon.

When Tails was very little, he used to always fall asleep whenever Sonic brushed his fur. It was comforting and calming to him, so how could he not? Overtime he didn't really need Sonic to do it for him though and eventually he stopped as per Tails's insistence. But sometime when the night was right, maybe after a big fight, or simply just because of the new year, to look back at how far he's come in such short time, he asked Sonic to brush his fur again. Just something small and simple he vaguely remembered enjoying.

And it's become something Tails wants to make into a personal New Years tradition, Sonic agreeing to it since he kind of missed these small moments too. Eitherway, not much has changed. It's still the same fox cub falling asleep on him over a small brush. Though then again, was it really ever just the brush that made Tails feel so at peace?

Gonna drop another headcanon for Wholesome Wednesday :))

We've got Classic Sonic & Tails here, right? Doing what looks like a fist bump from afar.

Ya know the headcanon that Tails used to be sensitive to touch because of all the bullying he endured before he met Sonic?

What if this was a little thing that Sonic came up with for them, so they could still show some degree of affection with each other while Tails was still uncomfortable with touch? A fist bump that didn't make physical contact? And even if/though they do touch in other scenes, they still do this little thing now and then as a little reminder of how far they've come. 💙💛

Older Tails after banging his knee on a bench: *starts cursing uncontrollably*

Sonic hearing the bang from the other side of the house: OOOUUUH- 👀 HEY LANGUAGE!!

He rushes in to check on his little brother but wasn’t aware of the random ahh chair in the road and ends up stubbing his toe on it

Sonic: *also starts cursing uncontrollably*

Though Tails is a pretty good cook himself and has tasted chef level meals made by both Amy and Vanilla, nothing could beat the taste of Sonic's chilidogs

Those are his favorite, the best ever in his opinion. No other recipes, world class restaurants, nothing could compare to those. He loves them.

How could he not? When he clearly remembers the amount of care and love Sonic used to place in making them, searching for the finest ingredients available even when they didn't have a home, handing him his possessions to look after while he'd be gone for the whole afternoon and return just before golden hour, proudly carrying the freshest sausages and tomatoes and chili and herbs and spices, soft buns he bought from who knows where while Tails knew for a fact Sonic didn't carry money. Did he run little errands for it? Traded his trinkets? Tails didn't know. But he knew his brother was gone for hours and he knew Sonic wasn't running around for the fun of it, his shoulders pulling with exhaustion but eyes shining with a glint of triumphant pride and hope.

He couldn't ever forget the times when they both washed the ripe produce in a nearby stream or spring, splashing at each other but taking care not to lose anything to the flowing water, couldn't forget when Sonic would set up the pot and a tantalizing aroma would spread in the air after a while. Tranquil silence broken by occasional stir of ladle and soothing bubbling of chili as it simmered, soft crackles and smell of carefully roasted sausages on a stick accompanying his growling tummy just before the crisp, steaming meat would be slid off the stick and onto the bread, a spoonful of chili spread over it. He couldn't forget the encouraging smile of his brother as he would hand him the first chilidog, nodding at it insistently, telling him to eat up. He couldn't forget the proud shine in his brother's eyes of a job well done, the smile that spoke volumes of care and endearment whenever Tails stole a glance while chewing on his meal.

It tasted delicious.

Perhaps he could learn to make them for Sonic too

Older adult-ish Sonic with toddler Tails who runs up to him and just gives him the autism(tm) stare.

Sonic is just "????? What's up kid??" Kinda confused but always willing to hear the kit out.

Tails, very forcefully states, "The North Empire X-15 holds the record for the fastest speed ever achieved by a manned, powered aircraft. It reached a top speed of Mach 6.72, or 4,520 miles per hour, OR 7,274 kilometers per hour during a flight in 1967." And very gleefully looks up at Sonic for validation.

It's a bit of a surprise, definitely not what Sonic expected to come out of the kids mouth, and he only partially understood what he said, but he very nonchalantly responds "eh, seems kinda slow to me. I could beat it, no sweat."

And little Tails is just.... In awe, and genuinely thinks Sonic is literally the coolest thing ever

I have a personal headcanon that Tails would be afraid of chickens.

Not like he wont go near them, its they will all gravitate and chase him. If any of you have chickens, youll know exactly what i mean when you have a bucket of feed, a basket of their eggs, or anything THEY want 😅

Now a couple isnt bad, but chickens tend to come in flocks. Large flocks and they will chase and flap at you.

So i like to imagine a young Tails going to a farmyard somewhere. Sonic is talking to the farmer and he suddenly hears yelling, turns around to see a giant flock of birds chasing his brother whom has the bucket of grain.
