Here are a few reasons why you should rent items from a party rental company for your next event.
Bounce houses, also known as jump houses, take a lot of time and effort to set up and take down, which you may save by hiring a rental firm. Especially when you use Party Right Rentals, the firm ensures that everything is in its proper location and that the inflatable is in good condition.
When you call a party rental company, you will have access to a larger selection of bounce house options that aren't only for birthday parties. Our bouncy house rental company offers both themed and generic bounce houses that are equally as exciting in terms of functioning and aesthetics! They are made to pique your creativity and take it to new heights! Your celebration will be perfect with Party Right Rentals! For a birthday party, anniversary, or any other celebration, setting up our Disney Princess Castle, Module House, and Princess Pink Crown on your lawn can rapidly alter the atmosphere.
Our Unicorn 5 in 1 Combo, which measures 30 x 15 x 15, and our 5 in 1 Combo Bouncer, which measures 20 x 19 x 16, for example, guarantee to provide a lively and beautiful feeling to the surroundings while preparing you for the next workday. If the summer heat is getting to you, let our Water Slides recharge your batteries and filter out all the fatigue. Lava Rush appears to be the best value for beating the sun, with dimensions of 22 x 11 x 35. Other inflatables, such the Shark Escape Slide and the Slip Slide, will add to the fun of your day. If you're looking for a big slide, check out Tropic Thunder Double Lane Slide, which is a mini-island in and of itself and could be perfect for large parties.
It is easy to notice how pleased people are when they engage a party rental company. Clients will remember the host as a fantastic party planner, and all of the children will have a great time that they will remember for a long time. In summary, everyone who takes part will have a good time. The irony is that life is simply too short at the end of the day. Trying to "do it all and be it all" is a recipe for disaster. So, if you are planning or hosting a party for the very first time, then feel free to get in touch with our party experts who will help you select the perfect rental that will suit your needs and requirements!

How to Train Your Wizard
Maybe I wrote a RED SHOES story involving a Viking. No it’s not those dragon riding Vikings.
xx
SourceURL:https://archiveofourown.org/works/25142545        How to Train Your Wizard - BleedingHeart911 - Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs (2019) [Archive of Our Own]
… The mermaids of the beach found the tourist humans too odd by a starfish-half. Giant umbrella over their fully clothed bodies; these landmaids were in the wrong climate. The strange landfolk separated from nature further by sitting in lounging chairs as if the boulders in the ocean weren’t cool enough.
“Gotta love that sun.” Snow White said under her sunhat. In one hand she fanned her soft chin, in the other her fingers laced in her boyfriend’s hand.
“Yes, and this fresh sea breeze.” Merlin said dozily, his eyelids closing under his sun-obstacles. He snapped his long fingers and a candle enchanted with bug-repellent burned green and smelled like a sunflower. They sighed in unison, their cares slipping away.
The cawing of seagulls became the yelps of scared mermaids. Snow and Merlin open a single eye each to see a wooden dragon raging towards the shoreline.
“Who would think building a giant dragon puppet easier than taking the beast as a pet?” Merlin asked as he dropped his lite beach-rob. He flipped through the spell-cards in his belt-satchel.
“Sweetie, that’s a Viking’s ship. You might want to pull out a big zapper.” Snow said as she closed their umbrella. Merlin had his magic, she had the strength to stab and whack. They sped-walked to the gentle waves, weapons in hand but allowing the strangers to arrive.
“Never fought a Viking before. Heard they’re like minotaur-pirates without dental plans.” Merlin said, watching the huge sails.
“That’s the stereotype. It’s not untrue but I’ve known some exceptions.” Snow said as the boat pushed into the sand.
Merlin smirked, he thought about asking if his princess had known a lot of disgusting pirates growing up in the sheltered ballrooms. He didn’t ask since the horned, hairy, man-like fiends jumped onto the beach, shaking the earth.
The hairy beasts groaned in warning, weapons in hand though they stood in wait. A huge, maybe seven-foot-tall, yellow-haired beast jumped off the side. His smell made Merlin’s stomach turn.
“I’m going to hit him with a soap-spell first.” Merlin said as he raised a spell-card.
Snow grabbed his hand, “Wait a minute. Brutechel?”
Under the unruly hair and horned-helmet Merlin saw bright blue eyes and the scruffy stubble of a young man’s sickly smile.
“Snow! You’re alright!” The Viking exclaimed, swinging his mallets over his head.
Snow laughed and ran into Brutechel’s hug. The Viking’s thick muscles had no problem raising Snow off her feet in a twirl. The sight disgusted Merlin; he felt a flicker of lightning trickle up his thin arms.
Brutechel placed Snow back on the sand and held her fair little hands in his hammy ham-hands.
“I wanted to come sooner- when I heard about your step-mother –“
“It’s fine, we’re fine. You had your reasons for not-“
“No, my chief hid your letters. He had- I had no idea… You must have thought I was the most selfish son of troll.” Brutechel said with regret.
“Never.” Snow’s big brown eyes looked up at the young man two-heads taller than she.
Brutechel sighed deeply with tears of joy. “Thank Odin you’re alright.”
“Yes, she is.” Merlin stated loudly, stepping to Snow’s side. He put an arm around her possessively and said, “Hi, I’m the hero who saved the White Castle, among others. Merlin, leader of the Fearless Seven, I’m sure you heard of us.”
“Thought you guys were a democracy.” Snow said, dropping her hands from Brutechel’s grip.
“When my quick thinking and skill can’t find an advantage, yes we can be.” Merlin amended.
“Oh, yeah I have heard the F Seven. Thought they died a year ago?” Brutechel said, eyeing the overly-groomed fishbone holding Snow.
“Sabbatical.” Snow shrugged slightly annoyed with Merlin’s bragging, “So yeah, Brutechel this is Merlin, Merlin this is my dear old…. Brutechel.”
Both boys heard her take a beat to avoid using ‘old/ ex boyfriend’.
“Uh-huh.” Brutechel said, folding his ox-like muscles across his chest.
“Yep.” Merlin said with a pop of his lips.
Snow groaned through a smile and pushed Merlin’s hand off her shoulder. “Bea, tell me you didn’t come all this way just for me and my problems.”
“I would’ve crossed any seas if I thought you were in danger.” Brutechel said gently.
Merlin tried to say something but Snow spoke over him with, “Then the least we can do is invite you to dinner.”
“I’d be honored, Snow Bunny.” Brutechel said, barely moving his eyes from Snow, “That alright with you, chum?”
“Of course, and allow me to cook for you, bud.” Merlin said with a very fake smile.
“I’ll bring something over, that fine with you, Murray?” Brutechel said unamused.
“Don’t go out of your way, Brutus, any allergies I should know about?” Merlin asked stepping closer.
“Nope, but I don’t eat meat or dairy, dude.” The Viking said, crouching over string-bean.
“You’re a Vegan Viking, lad?” Merlin asked, noticing a few teeth were metal and gold.
“You bet your pointy hat, pal.” Brutechel said, wondering when non-Viking men started wearing perfume.
Merlin held back a flicker of lightning in his palm, “We’ll keep that in mind, and don’t trouble yourself with dessert. I know a guy.”
“I know a guy, too.” Brutechel said, curling and uncurling his fist.
“Oh boy,” Snow said drily, she clapped her hands, “You guys, hey.”
They both stared at her, their postures aligned to pounce.
“How about we all agree to meet at the castle around sunset? That good for you, Brutechel?”
The smelly oaf softened, “Oh course, Bunny, I look forward to tonight.”
“Me too.” Snow said sweetly as she grabbed Merlin’s arm, “Let’s go get ready.”
“Of course, my darling.” Merlin said, looping his arm around Snow’s elbow. “Now don’t you pillage when we turn our backs.”
Snow pinched his arm and they waved to the Vikings to Brutechel’s horde. The couple noticed some had buckets of popcorn. The Vikings waived back in a friendly manner.
On Risky Rock, Arthur’s laugh dug so deep the side of his dwarf-green abbs began to ache.
“Pure barry,” Merlin’s oldest friend said while beating the table. “Snow use to date a Viking? One of those lugs would use you like a toothpick. This has to be killing you, Merlin!” “Shut up, Arthur.” Merlin said while pouting in his chair at their oval table.
“Poor Merlin, the cute cure to your curse came with some burly baggage.” Jack said, also still green, small and polishing his nails to a shine. Pino, Noki and Kio stated different similes for Jack’s alliteration.
“I really can’t see how a girl as lovely and demur as Snow would ever even think of going near one of those filthy vandals.” Merlin said, relieved he could complain far from his girlfriend’s ears.
“Ah, la vache, you would’ve said the same thing about your squat little self when she met you.” Jack countered. Arthur was still chortlings, rolling on the floor.
Merlin rolled his eyes, “I really doubt there’s anything hidden in that bear. But it is so like her to take a stray home and try to bathe it.”
“I’ve tried to do the same thing will all of you.” Jack stated, causing Hans’ brow to wrinkle in confusion. The ginger chef came out with meatless stroganoff in a glass dish with painted candies dancing around the sides.
“Here, Merlin, I replaced the beef with tofu.” Hans said. He liked trying an old dish with a new twist.
“Right, I’ll return it tomorrow.” Merlin said, he wondered if he poisoned the tofu would it hurt Hans’ feelings. After he closed the door his friends hovered at the oval table.
“We’re going to that dinner, right?” Hans asked in the huddle.
“Affirmative.” Pino said cheerfully.
“You got that right.” Said Niko.
“Let’s bring a boardgame.” Kio said.
In the White Castle the princess set the table. The incident of her step-mother, may she rest in peace, turning her entire court and staff into trees made rehiring very difficult. Princess Snow didn’t mind setting the table, it reminded her of childhood tea parties. The memories of the princess guests judging her when she ate a cookie or scone wasn’t so nice. Snow accepted the past, forgave the foolish, remembered how Princess Katherine got kicked by a unicorn for being too boney and looked forward to her future.
“Have you thought about hiring elves? I hear they’re inexpensive.” Merlin said as he folded the napkins into swans.
“I sent notice, and I offered to pay them above the average non-human rate. Did you know Elves can catch all the same diseases we can and still don’t get health insurance?” Snow said, lighting candles.
“Shame. But they should be grateful at least one saintly princess cares.” Merlin said, taking her hand and kissing the back of it.
“Aww. Oh, thanks for getting Hans’ dish.” Snow said, raising the lid to see the home-rolled pasta Hans made. He rolled two different colored pastas to look like a candy cane swirl.
“Gladly. Do something for me, darling?” Merlin asked with a handsome smile.
“What’s that?”
“Cancel on Brute-a-chelli and enjoy a private dinner with me?”
“Merlin.” Snow said in a balanced tone.
“Whhhhhy are you making me hang out with the man who’s obviously still in love with you? How do you think that makes me feel??” Merlin whined.
Snow put a hand to her hip and raised her fingers as she made these points; “Okay, One; he’s not still in love with me, two: he’s a great guy I think you’d like after you get to know him, three: because I want to remain friends with Brutechel he needs to see the wonderful man I’ve chosen.”
The doubt that any man would be evolved enough to see his former love happy with a new beau ran deep in Merlin. He carefully considered choosing his words so he could squash her hopes in the most respectful route.
Snow placed her hands on his chest. “How about this? You really try to be nice tonight and after I’ll show you the flexible Valkyrie dress in my closet.”
Merlin raised an eyebrow, “Bribe accepted.”
Brutechel brought a salad in what looked like a giant yak skull. Merlin didn’t like pesto but he generously complimented the inscriptions carved in the bone-bowl. Brutechel the Kittenish was an animal lover. He had a zoo of pets on his ship and more at home; all rescues. At age six he tamed a sabertooth tiger and dedicated the rest of his life to respecting and caring for beasts found during sailing by the family business. Officially the ‘family business’ was exclusive pottery and dishes from ‘recycled’ materials. The wizard found the doe-eyed Viking simple and boring. Merlin became less jealous the more Brutechel droned on about different feeding tests. To his joy he noticed Snow was only polite with the guest, she appreciated the kindness but was only just not asleep in her goblet.
“Oh look, the bottle’s getting low. Excuse me, I’ll grab a refill. Any preference?” Merlin merrily asked.
Brutechel took the last glup of his goblet. “More of this, please.”
“Yes, thank you.” Snow said, her porcelain cheeks a light pink.
Brutechel watched the skinny snob leave the room. He searched for his courage and gazed at the glorious queen before him.
“So how’s your cousin with the pegle-“
“Bunny, I love you!” Brutechel admitted, his eyes wide with seriousness.
A lump formed in Snow’s throat. “What?”
“I am crazy about you, so how about we leave and talk about the rest of our lives for the rest of our lives?” Brutechel said, leaned him large hands over to hold her.
Snow gently whacked them with her soup spoon. “Brutechel, no! How can you say that to me with my boyfriend around?”
“He’s not around now. And Bunny, come on, he can’t protect you from bears.” Brutechel said, surprised she wasn’t thanking him for the out from the malnourished lizard.
“Why do you always bring it back to bears?” Snow winced and raised her hands, “No, I am not engaging in this conversation again. I say no, Bea.”
“But he’s so…. Shrimpy!”
“He’s also kind and clever and cute in all the ways and I choose him.” Snow said, putting a hand over her heart.
Brutechel felt his heart drop. He looked over Snow’s shoulder to see the smug sorcerer dancing and meeting his eyes with a poking tongue.
“I’m not sorry, I love Merlin.” Snow continued, not aware in the slightest the Merlin was making insulting gestures of victory to the denied suitor.
“You sure about that?” Brutechel asked, growing agitated at the arrogant snake’s dance.
“Yes.” Snow said with resound certainty, “I love him with all my heart.”
Brutechel groaned, “I want you to be happy, Snow White. I should go.”
“I do want you to be happy too, Bea.” Snow said, she felt pity that such a kind soul hadn’t found his right person yet.
The Viking slung his bear-skin over his shoulder and said not to worry about returning the skull-bowl.
Slipping back to the pantry Merlin soundlessly stomped the floor in glee. He picked a random wine bottle, did a twirl, and swung his arms without shame. He had no idea the Dwarf Six were watching him under Jack’s invisibility cloak. He muffled their laughter and followed the goofy friend to the dinning hall entrance. Merlin exhaled his delight and put on a façade of indifference when he approached Snow.
“Here we are, darling. How’s your goblet, Brutty? Oh my goodness, where did he go?” Merlin asked in phony surprise.
“He said he had to turn in for an early sail.” Snow fibbed, her face a little slumped.
“I see. Oh, dear. I’m sorry you’re disappointed.” Merlin wasn’t completely fibbing.
“It's how it goes.” Snow said as he kissed the top of her head.
“It’s getting late, we can raincheck the skimpy outfit you promised me.” Merlin said, he was already happy with the night so he could extend the excitement.
“Really? Honestly yeah, I’m not feeling it right now.” Snow said, placing her napkin on her plate. “I’ll clean up if you get the pillows cleared off.”
“I’ll clean, you get the cuddle chamber ready.” Merlin said as he took Hans’ dishware to the kitchen. Placing the dish in soapy water Merlin caught his reflection in a shiny tea pot.
“Hello gorgeous,” Merlin said to himself, “The smelly beast is gone and now Snow can get Merlin’d happily.”
Lightly parting his hair Merlin noticed a figure on the slant of the teapot. Instinct had him swiftly crouch down and miss the blow of the sink-size mallet. Merlin jumped up to see Hans’ dishware was intact, good, and he slapped a spell-card on the assailant behind him. The man was four times thicker so there was plenty of target. Merlin slide to the side and clapped his hands for a blast of lightning.
Brutechel blew the smoke from the burnt spot on his pec. The blast stung like a bee.
“Okay, let’s talk about this.” Brutechel offered, he felt a bad sport to attack such a soft puncher.
“Oh lets.” Merlin raised more spells in his fingers, “You got dumped, I make Snow happier,”
The wizard said this as they walked around a kitchen island. “Brute, chum, you can leave with a smidgen of dignity and I can be alone with the woman I adore. Or I zap you until your thick skull is a soup bowl”
Brutechel scoffed as they circled the steak knife set.
“You have tricks up your sleeve where Snow lays out her heart. My Bunny doesn’t need that.” Brutechel said as he threw a ladle at the wizard’s head.
Merlin dodged the ladle and threw a lightning bolt at the Viking's face. The stubble wouldn’t kindle but the ungroomed eyebrows burned clean off. Brutechel grabbed the saucepan and swung it in his palm.
“From what I heard you haven’t a clue what she needs.” Merlin said, he held up his arms so her magic could block the blows. “And you are the worst listener!”
Braced for another punch Merlin felt winded when nothing met his sizzling force fields. He lowered his guard to see Brutechel kneeled on the floor, hands down at his side.
“Go ahead, demon-whisperer, take me out so my Bunny can live in peace.” Brutechel said sadly, offering his thick neck open to a strike.
“Oh get up. As much as I loathe hearing you call my love ‘Bunny’,” Merlin rolled his eyes and shook with revulsion, “it’s no sport to disfigure a martyr.”
Brutechel nodded at the reasoning. He stood up, a head taller than Merlin, and wiped his hands, “If I ever hear you hurt her, I will use your straw arms for oyster forks.”
“Sure. Want a meal for the road, er, sea?” Merlin offered, he pointed to the pantry of fresh vegetables.
“Oh come on!” An oh too familiar voice bellowed from the shadows. Merlin groaned with annoyance while the spooked Brutechel searched for the demon source. Arthur threw off the cloak and slapped Merlin’s thigh.
“Mate, if you don’t defend Snow-belle’s honor I will disown!” The cursed prince said.
“Demon!” Brutechel yelled, grabbing his mallet and aiming to smash the little green monster. The mini monster caught the mallet’s face and pulled it from the Viking’s hand.
“No, I wouldn’t do it right. You can go right ahead.” Merlin said flatly, the two lug-heads were already crashing and destroying the royal kitchen.
The rest of the group sat on the kitchen island, eating the leftovers. One of the triplets shook a dice inside a cup.
“Hey.” Jack nonchalantly said, signaling they would clean up before the sun rose.
“Hey yourself.” Merlin waved in a quiet thanks to his friends. He rolled his neck and walked to Snow’s bedroom.
A lit candle was left on her nightstand. Snow faced away from the glow as she slept. In the pajamas that matched hers Merlin slid between the sheets. He pulled her head under his chin and lightly ran his fingers over her skin.
“You took a while. I should’ve helped washed.” Snow yawned against his neck.
“You're fine, darling. You're perfect.” Merlin quietly told her, he snapped his finger and the flame sparked away.

Day 20 Prompt: trapdoor Characters: Bonnie Bennett, Klaus Mikaelson
As she stands at the edge of the field, she realizes something: Hope rarely smiles.
In a way, she had been warned of this when she was given the position.  The child’s aunt had chosen other words of course: she is sensitive, do not push her too far too fast but Bonnie can now read between the lines.  Hope is unhappy --- a state to be expected given her tragic history thus far.
She stands, hands clasped together as she watches Hope mime playing.  The girl runs (at a speed that astonishes Bonnie).  She picks flowers (Bonnie is often lulled to sleep by the smell of lavender).  But she does not give herself over fully to the task.
Bonnie’s heart breaks.
Finally, Hope lets go of the pretense altogether, trudging through the grass.  She looks at Bonnie expectantly (with eyes that seem far too old for someone that young).  “Do you think Father will come to supper tonight?”
Bonnie has no answer to that.  What little she understands of Hope far outweighs what she knows of the girl’s father.  Klaus Mikaelson seems to cling to the shadows of the house, only emerging when there is some need he has to fill.  He had given her a cursory glance when his sister had brought her to him.  At first, she had been angry at him --- who leaves such a fragile child to fend for themselves?  But now she is grateful for his sporadic appearances.
There is just something about him that gives her the chills.
“Maybe,” Bonnie answers, giving Hope a smile as she extends her hand.  “He’s been painting all day.  He has to eat sometime.”
Hope tries to smile back.  At least she takes Bonnie’s hand.
Klaus does not join them for supper that night.
Bonnie tries to soothe Hope’s disappointment by making grand stories --- princesses in vast castles.  Magic creatures there to serve their every whim.  Hope is seems lost in the process, laughing as Bonnie does voices and excitedly asking if there can be unicorns (of course, there is always room for unicorns).  Her good mood lasts until Klaus walks by her open door without even acknowledging his daughter.  Bonnie watches as her face falls and then tucks her in tightly soon after.
She decides she will say something.  She has been here three weeks now; she can no longer hold her tongue.
Bonnie finds Klaus in the library.   There is a plate of half eaten food beside him and he is simply staring out the window.  At first she thinks he does not even know she is there.  But he shifts his head slightly.  “How long are you going to stand there like a quiet mouse?”
She furrows her brows, feeling some shame that he has called her out.  Moving further into the room, she tries to speak with the fire she feels inside of her.  Yet this close to him, she finds her voice falters somehow.  “You might think to stop next time.  To bid Hope goodnight.”
He looks at her now, his eyes dark and unreadable in the dim light.  “Because you are new, I am going to assume that you have simply forgotten.  When my sister hired you, she warned you against speaking out as you just have.  If she did not, feel free to tell me. I will have to remedy that for the next time.”
Bonnie feels a true bolt of fear.  She cannot lose this position.  She needs the money, the stable roof over her head.  Most of all, she needs to do what it takes to make Hope smile again.  She presses her lips together in an effort to stop herself from simply biting back.  She can further her point somehow without losing everything.  “ --- Mr. Mikaelson…”
“I will forgive you this once.  Since you are new --- and it appears that my daughter has taken a liking to you.  You are, after all, the first one she has given flowers to,” Klaus says.  Then he waves his hand.  A dismissal.
As she slinks away, she wonders just how he knew of Hope’s gifts (or just how often he has been in her room; a thought that makes her shudder).
A few nights later, Hope has a nightmare.
Bonnie can hear the girl screaming from down the hall.  It takes her a minute to gather herself but then she is running as she can to the little girl’s room.  Hope flings herself in Bonnie’s arms and holds tight.
“I saw it,” she sobs, burying her face in the depths of Bonnie’s robe.  “I saw the door open.”
Bonnie is confused.  All she can do is run her hand through the length of Hope’s hair until the girl is calm enough to speak once more.  She soon learns that source of Hope’s dream is a familiar one: a locked door and the mystery that lies behind.  It does not surprise her that a child is afraid such things and she does her best to allay Hope’s fears.
“That is where your father paints,” she reminds Hope.  “He creates beautiful things there.  You needn’t be afraid.”
But still the nightmares comes.
She finds herself spending more time in Hope’s bed than her own for the better part of the week.  With Klaus unreachable and his sister back managing her own household, Bonnie is left rudderless in her attempts to help Hope work through the fear that plagues her.
Finally, in the early hours of one morning, Bonnie thinks she has a solution.
She is moving slowly back to her room, having just lulled Hope to sleep once more.  She feels drained, her bare feet dragging on the cold stone floor.  She turns her head and then realizes something.
The door is open.
Bonnie stops, tilting her head to the side.  She has never seen the door open before.  It is always closed, locked --- shutting Klaus away from the others in the house.  She falls absolutely still, listening for any sign of life from the room within.
She hears nothing.
Gathering up her courage, Bonnie lifts her candle and moves towards the door.  If she can see inside, she can describe it to Hope.  She can tell her just what lies behind the locked door.  Hope will see that the monsters she dreams of are not real.
With a final deep breath, she steps into the room.
Canvas cover most of the space.  Some are bare.  Some appear half finished.  And some are painted in such intricate detail that she feels compelled to step closer to take it all in.  She wishes that it was daytime so she could see it in perfect light but she makes do with what she has.  Despite her feelings for the artist, she thinks they beautiful.
The last one she steps towards is in the corner of the room.  It appears to be wet still, a rivulet of red paint sliding slowly down the length of the canvas. She becomes transfixed by it, watching it finally fall to the floor.  For a moment, she stands there trying to put together just what it is that he is creating.  Then against her better judgement, her hand moves forward to touch that bright red line.  She rubs her fingers together, frowning at the texture of the liquid.  Then she bows her head.  Breathes deeply.  The copper tang causes her to recoil immediately.
Blood.
Bonnie gasps, jumping back.  She knows now she needs to leave this room.  Before it is too late.
As she turns to run, the door slams shut.  She holds the candle out and there he is.  Klaus.  Standing between she and the only exit.  He looks pained.  As if he has just been set with a grim task he would rather give another.
“I really wish you hadn’t come through this door.”
And then he is on her.

Edinburgh's Attractions
The day in Edinburgh began a lot like how I spend most other days as a tourist in a new city - with a free walking tour! Our guide James gathered us together as a group of 30 or so at the Royal Mile (which isn't actually a mile but it a so-called "Scottish Mile" of around 200m more than a regular mile). Our first stop was at the city chambers for our first history lesson of the tour after some quick introductions. Of course we began with the history of the city of Edinburgh, built between three volcanoes with the Royal Mile actually lying on top of layers of volcanic rock. James told us about the grisly death of William Wallace involving being hung until he was almost dead then tied to four horses who tore him into quarters as they ran in different directions. Then we played a game of guessing how many storeys high the city chambers building was - of course it looks 4-5 storeys but because of Edinburgh's hilly disposition the correct answer was actually 11! We stopped at the Market Cross which is one of the oldest structures in Edinburgh, it's from 1885 and actually isn't even the original but rather one created slightly further up the Royal Mile to replace the wooden original. As history would have it thieves and criminals were nailed to the cross for 24 hours for their crime, but apparently if they wished to free themselves they could simply yank themselves off the cross but some flesh might remain on the cross... now there is a unicorn on top - the national animal of Scotland. Nearby we visited the Parliament building of Edinburgh which now serves as law courts since they built a new parliament building (and went over budget by £5 million...). In the small square outside there was a statue of Charles the 2nd on a horse, however the sculptor had accidentally sculpted the wrong person's head so he simply continued the statue and left the original head on top. But he was very annoyed that he'd been scolded for his mistake so he left a hole in the top of the head and also in the bottom of the horse Charles was riding so each time it rained the horse would appear to be peeing all over the square. We passed the John Knox Presbyterian church and James pointed out a small plaque on parking spot 23 which is the actual burial place of John Knox. We were all surprised to be standing on top of a grave and jumped back but he reassured us with a very Scottish "don werry!" On our way to the High Kerk we heard some bagpipes to make our tour properly Scottish, then were told the story of how one woman protested the changing of official religions in Scotland by throwing a chair in the church and supposedly it led to the civil war in the U.K. There is a commemorative statue inside - to the chair, and also an angel playing the bagpipes. On the footpath nearby we stopped at the stone heart which is where an old toll booth used to be. We were all invited to spit into the middle of the heart as apparently tradition would have it! A slight detour and we were in a hidden close (one of 36 down the length of the Royal Mile), here James told us the story of Deacon Brodie who was a problem gambler and also the head locksmith in Edinburgh. He went broke and started robbing the residents of the city blind for 20 years and somehow ended up as the head of task force assigned to catch the Edinburgh thief! Eventually he was discovered and fled to Amsterdam but was caught and taken back to be hung on gallows that he had designed himself. Next we saw a trip step alarm system preserved in a wall, one step was strategically lower than the rest so that a thief would always trip and fall causing the inhabitants of the house to be alerted to their presence. Around the corner James explained to us how in Edinburgh they built living quarters underground and this meant that the sewer systems couldn't be run through here. Instead, waste was thrown from the windows after yelling out to passersby to watch out. Apparently the term shit-faced originated because of this - being drunk and getting hit by someone's flying waste! We took a short break and then visited the Grassmarket where we saw the gallows that hung Half-Hung Maggie Dickson; she was hung until dead and headed to the cemetery when she suddenly sat bolt upright in her coffin. She lived a further 40 years and since she had been declared legally dead she didn't need to pay taxes, and her marriage was annulled so she could marry the man of her affair. Our last stop was the Greyfriar's kirkyard, as we walked through James told us that the soil is so soft that tombstones are always falling, cracking and breaking, but slightly more chilling is the fact that bones often find their way to the surface. On one tour a participant found an entire jawbone! Luckily there is a place in the church to return any accidentally discovered bones so they can be re-buried. From the cemetery we could see the backside of the cafe where JK Rowling wrote her first three Harry Potter books. She sat at the window table and looked out over the kirkyard and the castle and that was some of her inspiration for Hogwarts. Following the Harry Potter theme we saw another of Rowling's inspirations - the grave of William McGonagall, a failed poet famous only for being so terrible. Our final stop on the tour was perhaps Scotland's most visited tombstone. James told us the last tale of John Gray who was an old man hired as the night watchman of the Greyfriar's kirkyard to prevent grave robbers digging up bodies in the night. He was lonely so he adopted a little dog called Bobby. John died after two years but Bobby lived to be 15 years old and guarded John's grave all those years, when he died he was buried just outside the cemetery because dogs cannot be buried on sacred grounds but a large tombstone was put up in the cemetery in memoriam and now tourists visit to leave sticks and balls and dog treats. After the tour I wandered around a few shops and up to the castle for a look. Later I was booked in for The Scottish Whiskey Experience which I'd been really looking forward to. It began with a barrel ride to explain the whiskey making process and then we all sat in front of a huge 180 degree screen to show each region of Scotland with crisp flyover footage and describe the type of whiskey they produce there. Each of us on the tour had our own scratch n sniff card so we can smell an aroma from each region to choose a taster for ourselves. The next room was a classic tasting room where we each took a dram of our chosen region - of course I couldn't resist a peaty Islay! The final room on the tour was a cased collection of 3384 bottles of whiskey - the largest collection in the world including centuries-old bottles which had almost evaporated in their bottles. I had signed up for the extended tasting so I had a tray of four more drams to taste then I wanted to try a Campbelltown whiskey as I'd never tried one from that region before, and then I also wanted to try a Ben Nevis because the flavours sounded like a delicious combination for me. Of course it was a lot of whiskey in one go and I ended the evening drunkenly stuffing my face at Five Guys (my favourite burger place and I'll eat with no shame!) and sending Snapchats to my friends. All in all a fantastically informative and enjoyable day in the beautiful city of Edinburgh!

A guide to the best days out on the Norfolk Broads
A local’s guide to the best days out on the Norfolk Broads this half term
Late May and early June are a lovely time to visit the Norfolk Coast and Broads. Living in Winterton-on-sea we are well placed to make the most of the beautiful coast line, the Broads National Park and lovely sea side towns. Here are my tips on where to go this half term break.
Get onto the Norfolk Broads
These days there are more and more ways to experience the Broads National Park. Winterton–on-sea is the perfect place to reach some of the quieter parts of the Norfolk Broads. Why not try:
Taking a wildlife tour with Ross at Horsey. All my guests rave about this and dogs and children are well catered for.
Hiring an electric boat from Martham Ferry Boat Yard. Never go diesel, why would you want to breathe in diesel fumes and listen to an engine when you can be out on the water in near silence? Head to Horsey Mere first and then onto the Thurne Lion for lunch. This company also teach sailing on the Broads.
Going on a sunset or sun rise kayak or Stand Up Paddle board with Martin at Norfolk Outdoor Adventure our guests get a 10% discount.
youtube
Visit the seals at Horsey
There are still lots of seals at Horsey and if your legs can take it you can always follow our Winterton- on-sea walking guide and walk from Winterton to see the seals and stop off at the Nelson’s head in Horsey or the National Trust’s wind pump, for refreshment.  You can always drop a car off in Horsey first to avoid the return journey. Read my blog on the seals at Horsey for more info.
Spend the day on Winterton-on-sea beach
This amazing sandy beach never gets really busy. It offers huge dunes to jump off,

endless sand and the odd glimpse of seals. The Dunes café, right on the beach, is excellent and the pub and fish and chip shop offer great alternatives, if the café gets too busy. For children there is a modern play area in the village. If you come on a Saturday the church tower is open, which is definitely worth the climb on a clear day.  I often go
to the beach for the morning and after lunch go onto the play area before heading home.
Visit Happisburgh light house
You can go up the lighthouse on Sunday and bank holiday Monday. This 85 ft tall, iconic red and white stripped tower is the only independently run lighthouse in the UK and well worth a visit. There are 112 steps to the top.  Unfortunately, children under 1m won’t be permitted. There’s a children’s play area across the field from the
On a good day this lighthouse is well worth a climb
lighthouse too. You could also combine your visit to Happisburgh with a circular walk along the beach to Cart Gap and enjoy lunch at the Small Sticks café or at the Seaside Tea Rooms, which are just outside the car park in Happisburgh.
Days out with kids
If you have kids in toe then I always recommend BeWilderwood which is in the heart of the Norfolk Broads in Wroxham.  It is a cracking day out. My kids never get bored of this lovely tree top adventure. Book on-line for the cheapest ticket.  Wroxham Barns also has a ‘Unicorns and wizards festival on all week at their junior farm. Another option is the lovely gardens at Hoveton Hall that has a country fair and food festival on Sunday and bank holiday Monday, complete with dog show. The gardens are beautiful so I think they’d be well worth a visit.
Experience some Wildlife
The rare swallowtail butterfly - found on the Norfolk Broads
The Broads National Park is rich in wildlife but it’s good to get the experts to help guide you.  Hickling Broad has a range of activities on all week including a butterfly walk on Wednesday and boat trips. Book in advance if you want to take part. Dogs aren’t permitted. I also recommend visiting How Hill, with a picnic for a lovely family day out. How Hill offers great views of the Broads, Boat trips and a nature reserve. Check to see if the house gardens are open too. See my earlier blog for more details.
Visit Norwich
Head to the Norwich Lanes for Independent shops and stop for a coffee at Strangers. The impressive Norman castle has a Viking themed ‘Ledgend return events’ on all week (excluding Sunday). You can also take this brilliantly rated tour of the old ancient Norwich and hear all about England’s second biggest city in medieval times. Another great thing to do in Norwich is tubing at the Norfolk Snow Sport Centre in Trowse – book in advance and bring gloves but this is a fantastic activity for all the family (you have to be 6 or over). Their club house is great too.
Visit Great Yarmouth
The sandy beaches continue into Yarmouth and to Gorleston. Come here for donkey rides, amusements and the Pleasure Beach or Joyland. If it is wet then try the Marina Centre or the Jump warehouse. The Tide and Tide museum is worth a visit and has an exhibition on medieval medicine this half term – the next door café ‘the silver darlings’ is really good too. Top eating recommendations in Yarmouth include the beach hut café next to the newly opened Venetian waterways (my girls like scooting around them) or the Portuguese influenced Quayside plaza.

Creating a Comic Book - Dungeon Buddies - Part 3 of ?
We have a solid idea for page 1. We also have pieces and parts about the whole plot. Today I want to work on fleshing out the whole plot, which I'm thinking about as 10 issues of about 20 pages. The immediate scenes after our opening page are pretty obvious, but the overall story is still a little blurry in areas and I want to iron that out so that my first time through is decently smooth with, foreshadowing and such.
Tumblr media
Here's page 1. Then I'll start working through trying to piece this whole epic story together.
- - - - - - -
Page 1
Panel 1: Top third of page. A mountain ridge with two shadows walking along it, a soldier and a witch. Kind of dark and mysterious, ominous.
1. Narration: After the alliance won the war, the grand council sent a soldier and a witch to hide the Gauntlet of Kings in the X Mountains. Many had gone looking for it, none had returned.
Panel 2: Bottom two-thirds of page. Gauntlet floating above display mantel in the middle of the cave. Lut and Gaza on either side of the centerpiece with their backs to us facing the gauntlet. Parts of skeletons strewn around the floor of the cave. They have no weapons ready.
1. Lut: Ooooh!
2. Gaza: Aaaaah!
- - - - - - -
Right after that Lut is going to go for the gauntlet. As soon as he touches the gauntlet the skeletons are going to assemble themselves in whirlwinds of dust and attack. Lut and Gaza will narrowly escape. Somehow the gauntlet will probably save one of their lives. After they get out they will try to get the gauntlet off at some point, but it won't come off. They'll decide to seek help and advice in a town, or from someone at least. The person that they find might tell them the story of the soldier and the witch. No, I think that's too early. This person will probably tell them that there's only one person that can remove it. They'll also tell them that the gauntlet is worth a lot of money and that some people would chop off Lut's arm just to get it. That seems like a good ending for the first issue, the call to adventure.
The place they have to go is on the other side of a dark forest. This forest is full of a bunch of monsters. What kind of monsters should we have? Wingless dragons, chimeras, unicorns, blood-sucking bats, giant owls, large carnivorous plants, and such. The greatest monsters of all are the Cyclops and the goblins. Both races fought together with The Alliance during The War of the Dark Sword. (All names are subject to change whenever I want, for now.) But before that, and again now, they are basically considered animals themselves, primitives at best.
So, Lut and Gaza know that there is an Aership on top of the castle. They decide that the best thing to do is steal the Aership and fly over the dark forest to... I'm not sure yet. Wherever they're trying to get for this special person that can remove the gauntlet, supposedly.
The castle is occupied by the Grand Council and their servants. But, almost everyone is out of the way for some religious ceremony on a special day, maybe just a normal day of the week. I'll have to decide how I'm going to do the calendar later. During the ceremony they sneak into the castle and make their way to the staircase that would lead to the top of the king's tower where the Aership is. But, at the base of the stairs there is a Brute. A race of fierce, cold-blooded killers. They are the ones that fought for the king. (The Dark King, The Evil King, King Lucian, King Lucian the Light. That last one might have something. Then it could be the Light Sword and The War of the Light Sword. That might work.)
They decide to get past the Brute somehow. They notice that he doesn't have his spear for some reason, only his large shield. Maybe they tip something over out of the way and the Brute goes to investigate. Then they make a run for it. The Brute chases them up the stairs. Wait, I should probably have some more sneaking in there before that for Gaza, because sneaking is his thing. Maybe he had to sneak through a window to open a door for Lut. Alright, the Brute is chasing them up the stairs. They get to the Aership and cut the ropes. They start floating away trying to figure out how to get it going. But, the Brute runs and jumps and grabs onto the rope, or the hold, or something.
There's a problem here. I have to get the Brute to be friends with Lut and Gaza, and I don't see that happening right now. How can it happen? Maybe he sees the gauntlet and respects that. No. Somehow they have to talk for a little while. Could it be while he hangs onto the rope? Probably not. Maybe Gaza uses sleeping powder on him. Maybe. Maybe that's how they get past him. But then he's just left behind. Maybe they have to come back to him to get through a door or something. Dang, problems.
Maybe they need his strength for something and wake him up from the effects of the sleeping powder to talk to him. No. I think I need them to save something that the Brute values. How can I do that? I don't know. Maybe, maybe, maybe. What if they bait him into a side closet and Gaza puts him to sleep. Lut points out that a real Brute shield is worth a lot of money. This one has been used, but repaired pretty well. There is one new scratch across the front through the bright red paint. I'm thinking the shield is this big rectangle of red with fancy gold trim around the entire edge. Lut has some repair polish that he pulls out. He's fixing the shield and the Brute wakes up. He grabs both of them, they're at his mercy, and then he sees the fixed shield. He asks why they repaired it and Lut says that "It looks better this way.", or something like that. Then the Brute notices the gauntlet.
Okay, now we're onto something. Maybe we do a flashback and reveal this specific Brutes story while also revealing that the gauntlet belonged to King Lucian the Light. Yes! There needs to be a bit more here. Why would the Brute leave with them? We find out that the scratch is from a child of one of the Grand Council members. The kids come and stab at him for fun, and make fun of him because he's a Brute. The Council doesn't care because he's a Brute. So, Lut and Gaza say he should join them. In the flashback we find out how the Brute lost his spear in battle. The Grand Council wouldn't give him a spear again, and said he could only use a shield because he's only a protector now. Good stuff. Lut and Gaza tell him where they're going to get the gauntlet removed so they can sell it. They'll split the money so he can have a new spear made and restore his honor as a respected warrior. Perfect, sounds good.
Now I'm not sure where we are in length. I think getting the gauntlet and getting to the castle after finding advice in town is issue one. Then, getting into the castle and the whole thing with the Brute is issue two.
Now, all three go and steal the Aership. I'll think more about that Aership design later.
(A few interrupting thoughts. It could be the Light King and the Light Sword, but the Dark War, because the victors decide the name of the war from this side. But, King Lucian calls it the Light War. That's a good idea. Usually the different sides do have different names for wars. Also, the Brute is starting this thing thinking about getting his spear back. But, by the end I want him to take pride in being a protector and only having a shield. Also, I want to give him a specific name in the story because he's broken away from his Brutish past now. Brutes don't have names otherwise, they're just called Brutes. Also, Lut is focused on money at the beginning, but when it comes down to it at the end he'll decide to save the day as a hero should. Then, when he can, he'll focus back on treasure again.)
The first two are sounding good. I'll move fast and light now so I can think about these things more for the next article.
Lut, Gaza, and the Brute steal the Aership. They set off. Over the Dark Forest there is a problem. They crash into the forest. They are attacked by something, maybe Cyclops. I'll have to look up how I'm supposed to write that in the plural. Then the goblin girl saves them. Why would she? That doesn't quite work yet. I'll detail that out next time. Anyway, they get the girl on their side and she leads them through the forest. Probably a flashback in there of her parents fighting against King Lucian and her being a child, something like that. That's issue three.
On the other side of the forest they come into a... town. Should they find a town, a city, a small hut? Something. Gaza has to sneak into somewhere again. He does his weird take off his clothes thing. Lut is used to this and holds his clothes, but the others point out how weird it is. We go into Gaza's backstory and explain that as a child in a rich family he escaped a lot. His doting parents hired people to take care of him. They tried different things. One of those things was putting bells or something like that on his clothes, maybe tracking devices, maybe both. So, he had to take off his clothes to get away. He found that it was useful, so he keeps doing it. He's able to get whatever they needed to get. That's issue four.
Maybe it was that the people in town were afraid of the goblin and the Brute and arrested them. Then, they had to break them out. That might be a good idea.
Now, the evil exiled king has to start coming into play around here. They also need to meet the soldier and the witch. They also need to meet the person that might be able to get the gauntlet off.
What if, what if, what if. What if they see people watching them oddly? What if someone sees the gauntlet, they have some odd eye contact, and then they turn around and run off. Later, some assassins show up. Maybe.
What if they go to see the person to get the gauntlet off? It seems like he should be a dwarf. He tells them the story of the soldier and the witch. He also tips off some people from the Light King. Yes! While the dwarf is telling the story King Lucian hears that someone has the gauntlet. We can flash to that scene to first introduce the King. Then, he dispatches people to get the gauntlet by any means necessary.
In the end the dwarf tells them he can't help them, and the King's soldiers break in and try to kill them all. Maybe they aren't Brutes, they're a group of thugs with one Brute. Our team wins the fight and gets away. They hide to sleep. When they're getting ready to fall asleep they're discussing things. They decide to try to find the soldier and the witch. They also decide to give Brute a name, because he's special. That seems like a good issue five.
Alright people, I think that's all my brain can generate right now. That's a pretty solid first half of the series.
Meeting the witch and soldier could be issue six. They tell our team how to defeat King Lucian, and part of that is getting the gauntlet off.
They're going to need to get something else to try to take on the exiled king. They need something more. That'll be issue seven.
A first bout with the King could be issue eight. Maybe they lose. Maybe someone else had joined their team in one of the last two issues. Maybe it's the soldier, or the witch, or both. Maybe one or both of them die in that fight. Our heroes retreat and regroup.
In issue nine they gather more power again. Maybe some new ally or something. A Cyclops?
Issue ten is the final battle.
That sounds like a decent plan to me. Till next time.
(Maybe a winged dragon, which are supposed to be extinct, takes down the Aership. I like it. Just thought of it. Seems obvious now. Also, notice that I'm doing the character backgrounds in reverse order of importance. I didn't plan that, but I think it's a good idea. Maybe in jail the jailer is a Brute that Brute used to fight with. Maybe he is teased for not being Brutish, or maybe he's enticed to join again, or maybe both. Maybe Aerships used to be pulled by winged dragons, but when they were driven extinct people switched over to using wingless dragons inside of wooden wheels that drive the Aership. Maybe goblin girl wants to be a soldier like her parents because they died as heroes fighting against the evil king when she was a child and she's grown up hearing about their great exploits. Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts.)
Here's part one and two of this series:
