More of a meta question, almost (if not all) of your writing has been when monsters have made their way to surface. Would descendtale follow this still or would stories with them follow a reader insert that fell underground with them?
I like the idea of it being open to either!
'Fell into the Underground' stories can be a lot of fun so I kind of like that this one has more built-in space for that, but in terms of getting the Descendtale monsters up to the surface...
The Frisk of this 'verse/timeline has no interest in or thoughts of going back to the Underground.
However, they have just found out that magic is real, and that they can do it. They live the rest of their life as a mage, doing real magic and showing others how to do it too.
Most people hearing about what they can do--and what people who learned from them can do--dismiss it easily enough. Sleight of hand, special effects, digital editing, people have been faking 'magic' about as long as the word's existed, this latest brand of it is just another fad, a hoax.
Still, it becomes something of a subculture, mixing in with similar trends like witchcraft and the occult in general.
Decades later, most people who get into that sort of magic can't do anything too impressive, but it's especially popular in Ebott, a place with lots of local legends about the mountain, monsters sealed away beneath it, people going missing around it--really spooky, mystical stuff...
It's the perfect place for a group of young aspiring mages to go to attempt the weird ritual they found in a creepy old book they found in the back of the occult section of the local library.
And well...young people with old magic books containing incantations they don't fully understand will do what young people with old magic books containing incantations they don't fully understand do and, between them all, the Barrier is broken.
Eventually, monsters start to trickle out and the rest is history...or rather, the present.
#anonymous#descendtale#headcanons#heavily inspired by spooky/horror tropes#so of course i have to integrate the 'teenagers accidentally do a real spell and shit goes down' trope#except the terrifying monsters they've unleashed upon humanity are mostly pretty chill

Patterns: Jason Todd x reader
aka: the one when Jason learns a thing or two about family archetypes
***
It was quiet.
Too quiet and he didn’t like it.
Honestly in the back of his head, Jason was half-expecting to see her curled up on the couch, crying her eyes out and binging on Haagen Dazs.
His stupid, completely immature part was almost demanding satisfaction of said view.
Instead there was nothing.
And that was something his mind and conscience couldn’t quite process.
He stepped inside their shared apartment purposefully shutting the door with unnecessary force to get her attention.
All her got was a look from above the book, a little frown, a bookmark put between the pages of whatever she was reading and a quizzical look.
And that fucking deafening silence ringing in his ears and drilling holes in his integrity.
“Y/N.”
“Hi.” She simply said.
“Hi? Seriously?”
“Isn’t that how people greet each other?”
“Y/N!”
“What?”
“Why aren’t you yelling at me?”
“Why?”
“W-why? What do you mean why? Because I’m being an asshole to you! And I’m doing it on purpose just to get a reaction out of you!”
“Uh-huh. I see…”
“Come on!” he was losing his cool. As ironic as it was he was about to unleash hellfire of insults and jerk behavior to see her getting mad, sad, angry… anything but this – this cool exterior and calm face. If she actually would cry – in the way he imagined before – great – then he’ll get a chance to apologize and hold her and tell her he loved her and make up.
This? God damn, weren’t women supposed to be emotional?
They fought last night for god’s sake! Where were those completely-irrational-I’m-hurt-like-hell-and-will-show-you-that-in-any-way-possible-making-you-burn-in-regret moments?!
Maybe someone replaced his Y/N with a cold, overly rational robot?
“Y/N-“ he started again, carefully taking a step towards the couch, almost as if the Red Hood himself was being scared. “Do you remember what happened?”
“WE had an argument.”
Ok, so she didn’t lose her memory either.
“Yes. And – and I said some mean things towards you and – “
“I know. I’ve been there.”
What game was she playing?!
“Aren’t you – well I don’t know – hurt?”
“Oh, I am.” She nodded with a soft smile, acting like a five year old who had just discovered a new flavor of ice cream. “Wait- do you want me to yell at you?”
“YES!”
“Um… okay-“ Y/N tilted her head and raised an eyebrow. “If that’s the problem then I can – “
“Why don’t you want to yell at me?!” Jason finally exclaimed “Why isn’t your blood boiling? Why aren’t you letting your pain out?! Why?” he grabbed her shoulders, and focused his eyes on her face.
God, her face.
A little pale, with enlarged irises and faint redness around the eyelids.
“Come on, princess, talk to me.” His voice became softer, more considerate.
“Because I don’t want to be like my parents.” She whispered with a heavy sigh, looking down only for a moment, only to raise her gaze back on him with a sad, vulnerable smile.
“Like your-“
“Like my mother and father Jason. They used to exchange words and rough adjectives faster than the speed of light, sparring with contempt like it was a freaking lightsaber. “
“Well I – “ suddenly, a few images from his own “childhood” flashed between his eyes.
“So I don’t want to be like my mother, if I can help it. God forbid me from it. Seriously I’d hate to repeat the pattern of misery, broken relationships and a pile of shit.”
“Oh. I – I mean – “ he was out of words. He should have known better. He should have known he was doing exactly the same thing, getting himself pumped into the circle of his own traumatic past with Wills. And Y/N didn’t deserve this.
At all.
So maybe it was his fault that she decided to just bury the hatchet, suffer on the inside, never showing it outside and –
Now.
Now came the guilt that was causing his stomach to twist.
“I’m sorry-“ the wetness on his cheeks was not planned but happened nonetheless.
“Hey- Oh no, Jason – don’t- come here-“ Y/N opened her arms and pulled him close, letting him keep the rest of dignity, both pretending he wasn’t shaking from the tears. “Hush. Hush, it’s okay-“
“It’s not-“
“Shut up, Todd. I said it’s okay.” One swift movement and a light chuckle was enough to prevent him from further arguing on the matter. Hell, he even let out a laugh himself.
“You’re fucking impossible.”
“Mhm. You know, Audrey Hepburn once said – “
“I know what she said about the impossible.” He muttered.
Of course he knew. He read a lot.
“So.”
“So?” he pulled back, wiping his nose with a kindly handed tissue
“I think we made some progress today.”
“You’re not my psychologist –“
“Ah! Careful! I may not be, but I’m smarter and more self-aware and therefore-“
“Y/N-“ he said warningly but now with a smirk.
“Come on, Jason. Let me have my moment of glory.”
“Only you would turn post-argument-silent-days into a silver lining”
“Bear with me.” She grinned, ruffling his hair. “What did we learn today, little bird?”
“That we are not destined to repeat our ancestors' mistakes?” Jason was proud of himself for drawing the conclusion and awaiting a praise or at least a little gold star sticker.
“Mh.” Y/N muttered, pouting.
“Wait, what-? I thought – Y/N!? Wasn’t that the lesson!?”
“Mh. Not quite.”
“B-but—But—“
“The lesson was to never let a girl suffer alone, but your uptake on thing might pass. I’d say it deserves a C –“
“A C?!”
“Better luck next time?” she teased with an innocent look.
“What if I apologize? Will I get an A then?”
“Depends on the kind of apology.”
“the kind that wouldn’t be allowed in school.”
“Thank god, we’re not students anymore then-“
As the night progressed, being anything but filled with noises coming from arguments, Jason and Y/N realized their relationship took a different turn. Because if they were going to err and lose their way in it, it was going to be on their own terms, learning and growing together.
Because they were not doomed to fall into the patterns of a generational-trauma.

Felassan's Role in Psychological Warfare
Some time ago, I wrote about Elgar’nan’s terrifying display of power - the act of erasing emotion from existence, burning it from the minds of every living being, and letting its spirits die out completely.
This is the scale of the enemy Solas and Felassan were up against. When your enemy can unmake feeling, extinguish spiritual presence, and reshape the metaphysical architecture of your people, what choices remain? What kind of war do you wage against opponents like these?
What Elgar’nan did was spiritual genocide - brute force on every level. From the war on the Titans, to the destruction of spirit communities, to the devastation he continues to unleash in Veilguard, Elgar’nan has ruled through annihilation. (I feel real sympathy for Mythal trying to placate this being.) And what’s more terrifying: he’s only one of the Evanuris.
This reframes Solas’s rebellion. It wasn’t just a fight against political oppression - it was a fight to also preserve the emotional and spiritual reality of the world.
In that context, it’s no surprise the rebellion turned to psychological warfare. And this is where Felassan emerges not merely as a soldier or lieutenant, but as an architect - just as good at it as Solas.
The Dread Wolf: A Weapon, Not a Hero
The Felassan codices confirm their psychological campaign was deliberate and coordinated. The Dread Wolf myth was used as a weapon to frighten the Evanuris, inspire hope, and manipulate belief.
“Yes, we have to keep playing up the Dread Wolf. The people need someone they believe is strong enough to protect them… Don’t worry. I promise to mock you viciously if you ever start believing those stories yourself.” - Felassan
This wasn’t about heroism - it was about mass mobilization under existential threat. These codices suggest Felassan played a far more integral and strategic role in the rebellion than often acknowledged. He wasn’t just Solas’ lieutenant; he was a partner in both ideology and execution.
This was myth as infrastructure. Felassan understood that when your enemies are divine, survival requires more than tactics. You need narrative power - a symbol strong enough to counter fear. The Dread Wolf, once hurled at Solas with contempt, became that symbol. And Felassan and Solas wielded it with precision.
It’s easy to see Felassan as a wry commentator or moral counterweight to Solas, espeically when taken in hindsight of his death. And yes, Felassan is those things - but the codices reveal he's just as much the strategist as Solas, someone who helped forge the emotional weaponry of the rebellion. He didn’t just believe in the cause - he helped shape how it would be remembered.
This is especially clear in two parts of that codex:
“Yes, we have to keep playing up the Dread Wolf.” “Don’t worry…”
It reads like a continuation of an ongoing conversation. The “Yes” implies Solas has raised a concern - maybe about the direction of the symbol, perhaps discomfort with what it’s making him become - who knows, but we have missed out on some initial conversation here because Felassan’s response is affirmation and reassurance. Yes, we have to do this Solas, it’s necessary for the rebellion. But don’t worry, I’ll pull you back if it starts to consume you. That casual “Don’t worry” does heavy emotional lifting. It acknowledges the toll already settling on Solas, and Felassan, aware of it, offers the only balm he can: I won't let it consume you.
In this way, the codex isn’t just a strategic log - it’s a record of emotional triage. As the war escalates, the emotional and ethical toll begins to shift. Felassan becomes not just a planner but a witness to a conflict spiraling beyond anyone’s control.
“The bad news is that Andruil and Ghilan’nain made a big show of putting down a protest… Andruil left a crater where the town stood, and Ghilan’nain is using the people taken prisoner as fodder for her experiments.”
What follows next in that codex is the line that piqued my curiosity:
“This isn’t your fault, but still, this is exactly what I was worried about.”
That line marks a quiet, painful evolution in Felassan’s thinking. The emotional core is regret.
He isn’t blaming Solas - he’s acknowledging that the symbol they created is now drawing divine wrath. Each act of rebellion is met with devastation so complete, even victory feels like loss. Yet “this isn’t your fault” stands out. He knows Solas is carrying the rebellion’s cost - perhaps already retreating inward, calcifying under the burden of the costs of war.
But “this is exactly what I was worried about,” when read alongside the other codices, suggests something deeper: guilt. Felassan sees Solas changing. The man he once teased to not take the myth too seriously is now becoming it. The line between mask and self is blurring. And Felassan, who once promised to pull him back, may no longer be able to. Part of that guilt, perhaps, comes from the knowledge that he encouraged it - that he helped craft the myth, pushed Solas to wear it, and now must watch as it consumes his friend.
In a war like this, no one remains untouched. The Evanuris long ago abandoned morality - experimenting on the living, erasing emotions, killing without hesitation. But the rebels, too, are marked by compromise: truths sacrificed, lies forged for survival. Felassan isn’t innocent. Neither is Solas.
Felassan helped build the myth. Solas bore it. Now, both are shaped by it in turn.
The tragedy is that when you wield psychological warfare, there's always the risk that the story you create to move others will begin to reshape you. That’s what Felassan feared. That’s what began to happen.
And when Mythal is murdered - well, we know what happens from there.
This is part of a larger series. The first being Solas and Psychological Warfare.

So, both Marvel and DC periodically do "fascist takeover of America" crossover events. The one I read the most of was the 2006-2010 mega-arc spanning Avengers Disassembled and Siege, where the high-profile superheroic fuckups of Avengers Disassembled, Secret War and House of M create the political climate necessary for Civil War, and the subsequent government consolidation of power over superheroes, the regulatory infrastructure created downstream of that, is then directly implicated in Norman Osborn's eventual soft takeover of the American Security State- at least until he overplays his hand and gets curbstomped in the usual status-quo reset manner. On balance I genuinely really liked this arc, which is at least partially down to nostalgia- but part of it is that I very broadly find the whole thing plausible, essentially a four-color and comparatively toothless implementation of the ideas Bendis and Millar were playing with in the Ultimate Marvel sandbox. It raises questions about Superheroic accountability that the really aggressive shooters for that idea can't really weasel out of- accountability to who? You think the fucking Bush Administration should get to sign off on what superheroes can and can't do? The freaks who got millions of people killed in the middle east with a fake-nuke fig-leaf over their hardon for the gun salesmen?
(I call this a toothless implementation because Ultimate Marvel had Bush personally, directly deploy Captain America and company in Iraq. Mainline Marvel gestured at this but, due to the number of authors involved, ended up being a lot more thematically confused in regards to whether they liked the government or not. I like Ultimate Marvel.)
Anyway. The thing about the "fascist takeover of America" plot is that even though it's typically gesturing at plausible real-life concerns- The Military Industrial complex run amok, the NSA with superpowered attack dogs, and so on- it always ends up doing so from within the superheroic idiom in a way that robs the real-life referents of their power. A slick demagogue takes over the government, but that demagogues a conventional supervillain and once you unmask him and punch him out everything is back to normal. The CIA has unleashed an army of killbots but once you destroy the secret killbot factory and arrest five or six people all is normal again in heaven and earth. There's always some inner circle, always some prime mover you can beat to a pulp about it. It's never painted as just the inevitable consequence of a significant chunk of the American populace being subsapient authoritarians who elect a bunch of criminal maniacs to enact an unmanaged suicide of the modern administrative state.
There's an extent to which doing something like this is always going to fall outside of the big-two mandate because going all in on what I'm about to talk about would put so much of a lie to the basic aspirational premise of the thing so as to make it unrecoverable. But a story I'd really like to see is a registration act situation where the superheroes are integrated under government power, it's cool, it's cool, and then over the course of a couple administrations, a couple economic downturns and maybe an adventurist overseas war it very pointedly becomes uncool. Some cornfed fascist slides into the oval office, and there is no genre-specific mitigating element. It's not because of his mind-control powers, it's not because he's a catspaw for a supervillain or an ancient conspiracy. It's just the the proven American propensity for electing evil morons- or possibly the proven American propensity for electing evil genteel politicians, norms-and-civility ghouls who drone strike exactly as many weddings as the evil morons, if not more. And now the political moment has beaten down the gates to the walled fairyland garden of the superheroic cops-and-robbers runaround, and superheroes find themselves being sicced on campus protests and whistleblowers and overseas targets, every other evil exercise of power associated with the cops and the military and the national guard, and there's no smoky backroom you can beat up to ensure a return to normalcy, because this is normal. This isn't what they signed up for. This is exactly what they signed up for.

"The massacres and repression of Alawites and Christians in Syria began immediately after the fall of Damascus and have continued for the past three and a half months.
On 7 December 2024, the day after the capital city fell to Idlib-based militants, Israel began bombing Syrian territory and deployed tanks into the country's south.
Yet the barrels of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its affiliated Salafi extremist groups – who had taken control of Damascus – were not pointed at Israel, but at Syria's Alawite population. What began as attacks on Alawite and Christian religious sites quickly turned into the systematic slaughter of Alawites.
A campaign of ethnic cleansing
HTS-affiliated militants, now integrated into Syria's security forces, raided Alawite towns and villages, humiliating residents, looting homes, arresting men, and executing them in the streets. Videos they filmed show them dragging detainees across the ground, forcing them to bark like dogs, and celebrating scenes of public degradation and death.
From the outset, it was clear that these Salafi extremist factions, driven by hatred and vengeance, intended to carry out ethnic cleansing. Their campaign was not spontaneous it was the result of 14 years of sectarian incitement.
The fall of Damascus was sudden, and the shock of it has triggered widespread fears of genocide against minorities. Over a decade ago, since the onset of the Syrian crisis in 2011, Alawites have been marked for extermination: tens of thousands of foreign militants, drawn by the call to “jihad” against the government of ousted president Bashar al-Assad – an Alawite – entered Syria chanting slogans such as, “Alawites to the grave, Christians to Beirut!”
Fatwas soon proliferated that decreed the blood, property, and women of Christians, Druze, and Alawites to be ‘halal.’ In the first major massacre in Jisr al-Shughur in 2011, 120 Syrian police officers were executed and thrown into the Orontes River (Nahr al-Asi).
Entire populations were displaced from areas such as Al-Mukharram Alfuqaney, with over 34,000 residents expelled and more than 300,000 families from Idlib resettled in their homes.
Around this time, the extremely sectarian Sheikh Adnan al-Arur speaking from Riyadh on the Al-Wisal TV channel, explicitly called for the extermination of Alawites, “O Alawites, by Allah, we will mince you and feed you to the dogs.” He urged, “Wage jihad, and Allah will reward you with the land and women of the Alawites.”
Similarly, Salafi cleric Yassin al-Ajlouni issued a fatwa declaring, “Take Alawite and Druze women – but it is forbidden to marry them. Use them as you wish, without marriage.” This incitement soon spread among Salafi clerics across the Arab world, leading to mass killings and other atrocities.
One of the most notorious occurred in Latakia in 2013, when 190 Alawites, including 57 women and 18 children, were killed overnight. Other massacres followed across Hama, Homs, Latakia, Tartous, and eastern Ghouta – each claiming the lives of at least 100 people, typically during clashes between the Syrian army and the Islamist extremist forces.
Today, however, there are no longer such clashes – only HTS and its affiliated groups turning their guns on defenceless Alawite civilians.
From isolated massacres to systematic purge
The recent attacks have escalated into full-scale genocide due to two key factors: a near-total media blackout, and the consistent false portrayal of the atrocities as isolated acts of revenge, unrelated to HTS. During the first month of what was widely described as “individual incidents,” Alawite sheikhs, judges, academics, and farmers were specifically targeted.
Despite claims that the violence was sporadic and reactionary, their documentation tells a different story – one of systematic attacks on religious sanctities, mass arrests, looting, forced displacement, and destruction of homes.
All were catalogued by the Syrian National Violations Documentation Center, which published photos and videos on Facebook before the page was removed by Meta in an apparent censorship effort. The group continues to share content via WhatsApp despite ongoing attempts to suppress its work.
Desecration, executions, and forced expulsions
A few illustrative examples among the many repeated violations across Alawite and Christian communities include the destruction of graves and shrines, desecration of churches, attacks on worshippers, the burning of the Christmas tree in Hama, and the torching of the tomb of Abu Abdallah al-Khasibi.
Between 8 and 25 December alone, the Salafi extremist groups attacked churches, raided Christian villages, fired on religious symbols, and killed shrine caretakers. The following short list of verified incidents illustrates just how systematic and frequent these attacks were:
19 December 2024: Shots were fired at the Greek Orthodox church in the city of Hama. Bishop Nicholas Baalbaki, the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Hama, said, “Armed groups of people came, pointed their guns at us, broke crosses, scanned the walls of the church and left.”
22 December 2024: In the Syrian village of Safsafa, properties of Alawites and Christians were raided, money was extorted, and their women were subjected to violence.
23 December 2024: Islamist extremist groups affiliated with HTS burn the Christmas Tree in Hama. Shots were fired at Christian youths who tried to prevent the burning of the tree.
24 December 2024: The mausoleum of the Alawites in the village of Barouha, near the city of Talkalakh in Homs, was attacked by Islamist extremist groups. His tomb was burned, his belongings stolen and destroyed.
25 December 2024: Militants set fire to the 700-year-old tomb of Abu Abdallah al-Khasibi, an important scholar of the Arab Alawite community, and five Alawite civilians who were caring for the shrine were massacred. Armed militants stepped on the dead bodies and posed for photographs.
5 January 2025: In Damascus's Christian quarter of Al-Kasa, a Salafi extremist militant on horseback carrying an ISIS flag paraded through the neighborhood in the Burj al-Rus square. In addition, an announcement was made in the Christian quarter to call for the hijab, and men and women were instructed not to walk together.
15 January 2025: The private Christian Al-Hawash University in Homs was raided, and Salafi Islamist beliefs were imposed on everyone at the institution.
15 January 2025: In Damascus's Christian Al-Qasda neighborhood, a carload of armed Islamist extremist militants from Ghouta, wearing masks, attempted to distribute leaflets enforcing the wearing of the niqab and calling for a ban on smoking. When Christian youths intervened, the militants fired into the air to intimidate the crowds, and a brawl ensued.
16 January 2025: The Greek Orthodox church in Hama was attacked again, and the door of the church was destroyed.
15 February 2025: Christian villages in Wadi al-Nasara (Valley of the Christians) were raided, and 12 Christian youths were kidnapped. Three were later released, and nine were held hostage – the reason being the ringing of church bells.
17 February 2025: In Homs's Zaydal village, Salafi extremist groups attacked the Christian cemetery, destroying crosses and some Christian religious symbols.
Alawite and Christian communities alike faced mass arrests, violent home invasions, forced evacuations, and large-scale looting. Villages like Kafr Nan, Cobbarin, Talbiseh, and Talkalakh were subjected to artillery shelling, property theft, and public executions.
On 11 January, Syrian opposition leader George Barshini declared HTS was conducting a systematic genocide, stating that thousands of Alawite men had been detained across 40 prisons, with long-term plans for their extermination.
Disappearances, morgues, and mass graves
On 2 January, in the village of Al-Ghawr, two HTS convoys arrived at dawn, opened fire indiscriminately, stormed the school, intimidated students, wounded many, and executed residents in the streets. Elderly Ahmad Mari Jardo was killed while fleeing, and four young men were gunned down trying to protect him. Corpses were left to rot, families were denied the right to bury their dead, and looting continued unchallenged.
On 5 January, 34,000 people were displaced from the Alawite area of Al-Mukharram Alfuqaneyin Homs. Across Homs, the Alawite population is rapidly being liquidated. Over 300,000 families, most of them foreigners, are brought in from Idlib and settled in the homes of Alawites.
A resident of Hama's Matnin village reported on 12 January that “All the houses in the western neighborhood (Alawite quarter) were robbed and burned, all their property was stolen, people were expelled from the village, they were threatened with death and execution if they returned to the village.”
On January 16, in the village of Cabborin, Homs, heavy weapon fire targeted residential homes starting at 8:00 AM and continued until 5:00 PM. Later, the extremist militants conducted random raids, searches, and arrests, detaining dozens of people – mostly civilians – who were rounded up and taken to the Orontes River (Nahr al-Asi).
Additionally, many villagers, including those over the age of 60, were beaten and tortured for over an hour. They were subjected to sectarian abuse, insults, and humiliation, while being effectively trapped under siege, unable to leave the area.
On 17 January, at least 300 people from Homs-Cobbarin, Talbiseh and the Kurdish village of Dasnieh were arrested and taken “to the bed of the Orontes River, where they executed all of them.”
On 24 January, Homs-based journalist Wahid Yazbek reported on numerous murders from hospital morgues:
“There are dozens of unidentified bodies in hospitals in Homs. At Al-Walid Hospital, 23 unidentified bodies were found. There are 102 bodies in the Grand Forensic Center in Al-Waer and the Karm al-Loz hospital. Most of them have their faces disfigured.”
Journalist Nidal Hamade observed:
“Homs hospitals are still receiving the bodies of dozens of people coming from the prisons of Homs and Hama, all of whom died under torture and were then shot with a mercy bullet in the head. The majority of the bodies belong to soldiers and officers who disappeared in the first days after the fall of the regime. They are now being liquidated.”
On 31 January, in Arza village in Hama, all Alawite men were executed by the Orontes riverbed. Similar executions occurred in Homs, with at least nine killed and many abducted. The massacre in Fahel, where 58 residents were killed and a young girl died of shock next to her father’s corpse, was the first acknowledged by the HTS governor of Homs. Other massacres had either been denied or blamed on rogue actors.
Following the collapse of Damascus, over 30,000 Syrian soldiers surrendered but have since vanished. Families held protests, demanding answers, while reports emerged of hundreds of unidentified bodies found in hospital morgues. Many showed signs of torture and execution. Journalists confirmed the corpses were mostly soldiers who disappeared in the early days of HTS’s takeover.
These stories represent only a select recounting of verified violent events carried out against Syrian minorities – especially Alawites and Christians – since the overthrow of Assad's government.
The fate of women
Between December 2024 and today, dozens of women have been targeted for kidnappings. Some were later found murdered and mutilated, including Professor Rasha al-Ali from Homs University. Videos show Alawite and Christian women being abducted.
One survivor reported 70 women taken from her village alone. Local media estimated over 100 professional women – including doctors, engineers, and teachers – were kidnapped in just two days. There are widespread fears that some of these women may have been trafficked to Idlib, where HTS has reigned for nearly a decade, and that a market for female slaves or organ trafficking may now exist, similar to practices under ISIS.
A large number of abducted men were also extrajudicially executed. Until 18 February alone, there were at least 53 documented cases of abductions and extrajudicial killings, though the actual number is certainly much higher.
‘Kill but do not take photos or videos’
HTS's internal orders discouraged the documentation of violations by their armed cadres. Senior Salafi extremist figures, including Huzayfa Azzam and HTS commander Abu Mahmoud al-Sus, instructed militants “kill, but do not take photos or videos.” The violence was framed as “cleansing the remnants of the old regime,” with strict instructions to leave no digital evidence.
Sus was the first person to enter the Syrian state TV studio after the fall of Damascus. At that time, while celebrating the revolution, he gave the message that “all the Syrian people are one.” In stark contrast to that message, however, on 13 January he publicly called for genocide, stating:
“We urge you, if you want to do anything, don't record it. Don't expose yourself and everyone else. Do whatever you want, but don't film it. Filming will only hurt the revolution and revolutionaries. Don't film, and if you film, don't publish. It won't benefit us. It will only give us a headache as we will have to cover it up. No need for it. Do whatever you want, but don't film. It's inconvenient, I give you the freedom to get rid of the [Assadist thugs], nobody will stop you.”
HTS commander Abu Mahmoud al-Sous tells militants to "do whatever they want" but not film it as it will only "hurt the revolution and the revolutionaries," leaving them with the burden of having to cover up their actions. There have been countless reports of militants… pic.twitter.com/0CRlmFoTWB— The Cradle (@TheCradleMedia) January 16, 2025
On 6 March, a group calling itself the “Coast Shield” announced armed resistance to the ongoing massacres. A day later, HTS launched a full-scale military campaign across Syria’s coastal region. Villages were bombarded, families killed, homes burned. Mosque loudspeakers in major cities called for the extermination of Alawites.
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), 6,316 people were killed between 8 December and 18 March. Local documentation suggests the real figure exceeds 30,000, with entire villages wiped out.
It was reported that on 7 and 8 March, in the village of Barmaya near Baniyas, 25 people were killed and 65 houses torched. The Tartous and Banyas countryside were shelled for days, and drone strikes targeted fleeing civilians. In the village of Barmada, homes were looted, then set ablaze. Mass graves were recorded in Jabla and Qardaha. Some bodies were dressed in military fatigues to disguise massacres as combat fatalities.
Deafening international silence
UN condemnation came only after a closed-door session requested by Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. In response, HTS ordered the disposal of bodies to obscure evidence.
Corpses were burned, thrown into the sea, or dumped in ravines. Some families reported that loved ones were buried without their knowledge. In the village of Snobar, survivor Raghda Ali published a list of over 130 victims, including many from the same family. “The people of my village, my sisters, my neighbors, my relatives are all gone.” She ended her list with the words, “And the list goes on.”
In Baniyas, corpses and homes were set ablaze. Bodies were thrown into valleys. On 11 March, Qardaha, the home village of the Assad family, was torched. One Islamist extremist militant filmed the flames, boasting that “at least 300 people” had perished.
In one heartbreaking case, 86-year-old Zarqa Sebahiyeh was forced to watch the corpses of her two sons and grandson decompose in the street for four days. She was denied a burial. Her looted house is now occupied by her family’s killers, who still live across from her.
When HTS's governor visited to offer condolences, he was accompanied by notorious warlord Hassan Soufan. As grieving mothers pleaded for justice, he replied with a smile, “It won’t happen again.”
As the bodies pile up and entire villages disappear, the so-called post-war Syria is revealing itself not as a moment of reconciliation, but as a new phase of organized sectarian retribution – enabled by silence, obscured by narrative, and unfolding with impunity."

🌉 TS1t2 Neighborhoods Conversion Project
🌁 This project is a recreation of The Sims 1 Neighborhood as complete as possible, with remade lots AND sims. The are already several neighborhoods done, and a first subhood including all remade playable families 👭
🏘️ What started as a « little addition » project turned out to be more... ambitious. After creating a MagicTown section in the Kalisa’s OldTown neighborhood, I thought I could also renovate the entire neighborhood, to make it look more like it was in The Sims 1.
🚎 TS1 Unleashed OldTown recreation🐕
🚕 TS1 Hot Date Downtown recreation 💕
🔮TS1 Makin' Magic MagicTown recreation 🎃
🌆 There is already several neighborhood download options, but each one requires to download the custom neighborhood decorations, the lot master-meshes required for the lots, as well as the installation of the lots with their custom content. Otherwise, the installed district and its lots will not display correctly. These downloads are intended for experienced simmers, who know how to use and organize their custom content. If you are new to the Sims 2 community and don’t find enough informations in my download posts check my related post
📸 A lot of the pictures may seem weird or cluttered, but it was important for me to show the actual game shot. Also, the terrains have roads that may seem mismatched, but this is to show that there are no overlays installed on the roads in the exported terrains, leaving you the choice of what you want to install. I have shaders but I don't use Gshade or ReShade. Besides showing the construction of the lots themselves, I also try to show the possible day/night decor settings possibility so you can imagine how to integrate it into your storytelling.
💡 In case anyone wants to suggest it, I'm already looking into adding a StudioTown section from the Superstar expansion to the map. And I'm studying the possibility of a vacation neighborhood base on the TS1 Holidays expansion. But work hasn't started yet, and perhaps there aren't enough conversions done in that direction at this point.

If you want me to tag you please tell me.
You tilted your head, considering the name carefully. The doll before you blinked its sharp amber eyes, a mischievous glint already visible in its eerily lifelike expression. Something about him seemed playful yet challenging a troublemaker waiting to be unleashed.
“ I’ll name you Ace ” you said finally, a small smirk tugging at your lips.
The doll smiled back, wide and crooked, as if approving of you choice.
From the beginning, Ace was different. Where other children or dolls, as you reminded you self in the early days might show tentative affection or shy obedience, Ace was bold and irreverent.
“ Why do I have to learn math? ” he whined one afternoon, slumping against the couch with exaggerated dramatics.
“ Because it’s important ” You replied, your voice firm but tinged with weariness.
“ Important for what? I’m not planning on becoming an accountant ” he shot back, grinning cheekily.
You pinched the bridge of your nose. “ You’re going to drive me insane, Ace. ”
“ That’s the goal ” he said, leaning closer with a sly smile.
Despite his antics, you couldn’t help but feel a grudging affection for the boy. Beneath his teasing exterior, Ace had a charm that was hard to ignore. He was quick witted and curious, always testing boundaries but never pushing too far at least, not at first.
But as Ace grew, so did his confidence. He loved pushing you buttons, watching you react with exasperation or an occasional smirk.
“ You love me. ” he’d declare smugly after one of their verbal sparring matches.
“ Don’t flatter yourself. ” your reply, rolling you eyes.
But deep down, you know he was right.
You relationship was a constant tug of war between irritation and affection. Ace’s teasing could be relentless, but it was always accompanied by a boyish grin that made it impossible for you to stay mad for long.
“ You're so annoying. ” you said one evening as he stood behind you while you cooked.
“ Annoying? I prefer ‘charming’ ” he quipped, snatching a piece of carrot from the cutting board.
“ You’re lucky I don’t chase you out of this kitchen. ”
“ You wouldn’t do that. ” he said confidently. “ You’d miss me too much. ”
You shot him a glare, but there was no malice behind it. Ace was infuriating, yes, but he had become an integral part of your life.
As Ace grew older, his teasing took on a sharper edge. He still smiled and laughed, but there was an intensity in his eyes that hadn’t been there before a possessiveness that made you uneasy.
One evening, as you sat on the couch watching a movie, Ace suddenly turned to you.
“ Why do you work so much? ” he asked, his tone unusually serious.
You blinked, caught off guard. “ Because I have to. That’s what adults do. ”
“ But you’re always tired. ” he said, his voice soft but insistent. “ You should spend more time with me instead! ”
You chuckled, ruffling his hair. “ You’re clingy, you know that? ”
His expression darkened slightly, but he quickly masked it with a grin. “ Only because you’re my favorite person. ”
It was an ordinary day, one filled with the usual back-and-forth banter between you and Ace. You was preparing dinner , humming softly to youself , while Ace lounged at the kitchen table , spinning a knife absentmindedly between his fingers a habit that always made you nervous.
“ Ace, put that down before you hurt yourself. ” you said without looking up.
“ I’m not a kid anymore, y/n.” he replied, his tone teasing but laced with something heavier.
“ You’ll always be a kid to me. ” you retorted, glancing at him with a smirk.
He grinned, but there was a flicker of something in his eyes something vulnerable, almost desperate.
“ Do you mean that? ” he asked quietly.
“ Mean what? ”
“ That I’ll always be your kid.. ”
His smile faltered, and for a moment, he looked like a child again uncertain and scared. But the moment passed quickly, and he leaned back in his chair, his usual cocky grin returning.
You paused, you hands stilling as you turned to face him fully. “ Of course, Ace. You’ll always be my little troublemaker. ”
“ Good... ” he said.
It happened so quickly that you barely had time to process it. One moment, you was teasing Ace about his messy handwriting as they sat together at the table. The next, he was holding the knife again, flipping it between his fingers like a dangerous game.
“ Ace, stop it. ” you said, you voice sharper than usual.
“ calm down, I’ve got this ” he replied, laughing.
But in his attempt to show off, the knife slipped from his hand, spinning through the air. You didn’t think you just reacted, lunging forward to catch it before it hit the ground.
You caught the blade, but not by the handle.
The sharp edge sliced through you palm, and you gasped in pain, dropping it immediately. Blood pooled in you hand, dripping onto the floor.
“ y/n! ” Ace’s voice was high-pitched with panic as he rushed to you side.
“ I’m fine.. ” you said through gritted teeth, though you face was pale.
“ No, you’re not! ” he said, his voice trembling. He grabbed a dish towel and pressed it against your hand, his movements frantic.
But in his panic, he didn’t notice the chair leg behind him. As he tried to steady you , he tripped , pulling you down with him.
Her head struck the corner of the table with a sickening crack.
“ y/n..? ” Ace’s voice was shaky as he knelt beside you. “ Hey, wake up. This isn’t funny! ”
You eyes fluttered open, but you gaze was unfocused. Blood trickled down the side of you face, staining you hair and pooling on the floor.
“ Ace.. ” you whispered, you voice weak.
“ I’m here. ” he said quickly, his hands shaking as he cradled you head. “ You’re gonna be okay. I’ll call for help. Justjust stay with me.. ”
You gave him a faint smile, you fingers brushing against his cheek. “ You’re such a troublemaker. ”
“ Stop talking like that! ” he shouted, his voice breaking. “ You’re gonna be fine! You have to be fine! ”
Your hand fell limp, and Ace’s breath hitched. “ No. No, no, no, no! ”
Tears streamed down his face as he clutched you close, rocking back and forth. “ I didn’t mean it! ” he sobbed. “ I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just wanted you to notice me. To love me. ”
You didn’t respond. you chest no longer rose and fell.
“ y/n… ” His voice cracked as he buried his face in you shoulder. “ I’m sorry. Please come back. Please… ”
Ace sat alone in the dimly lit kitchen, you blood still staining the floor. The knife lay where it had fallen, mocking him with its cold, unfeeling presence.
“ I didn’t mean it.. ” he whispered to himself, over and over, as if the words could undo what had happened.
But no matter how many times he said it, you wasn’t coming back.
He looked down at you hands, trembling and stained with you blood. “ You were the only one who cared.. ” he murmured, his voice hollow. “ The only one who put up with me. And I…I ruined it. ”
Ace never left the house after that day. He couldn’t bear to face the world without you, the person who had been his anchor, his guide, his everything.
The laughter , the teasing , the arguments they were all gone. And in their place was a crushing silence that Ace couldn’t escape.
“ You were right... ” he said one day, his voice echoing in the empty room. “ I am annoying. ”
He laughed bitterly, tears streaming down his face.
