10 Best Local WordPress Development Environments
Do you want to drastically lower the possibility of your WordPress website crashing while still being able to make changes to it quickly and simply? Then, a local WordPress development environment will come in helpful.
It is safe to make changes in a local WordPress development environment without interfering with your website. You may safely update websites, test themes and plugins, and provide good performance at a reasonable cost in your environment. Because you can use these products without an internet connection, they are also very convenient.
1) Local By Flywheel
Flywheel's Local is user-friendly even for those without any prior development experience. It was formerly limited to macOS users, but it is now available for Windows as well.
With this tool, choosing between Nginx and Apache servers simplifies the process of creating a new website. Because Local offers the ability to generate live links for your local websites, you can work together with colleagues or clients as well.
2) WampServer
Next up is WAMPServer, a well-liked and remarkably versatile Windows web development environment. Windows, Apache, MySQL, and PHP are the acronyms for WAMP. With PHP, Apache, and a MySQL database, you may use it to develop any kind of web application.
You don't need to use a remote web server to administer, create, test, and construct websites with this tool.
3) XAMPP
Cross-platform, Apache, MariaDB, PHP, and Perl are the acronyms for XAMP. This Apache distribution comes with PHP, Perl, and MariaDB and works with Windows, Linux, and OS X.
With almost everything needed for a local WordPress development environment, XAMP is an incredibly potent tool. Like the best local environments, XAMPP lets you continue working on your website even when you are not connected to the internet.
Because your site is offline and you can work away from prying eyes of clients or hackers, it also offers superior protection.
4) MAMP
MAMP is limited to Windows and macOS, unlike XAMP. On the other hand, it gives you access to extra programs like phpMyAdmin, Perl, Python, etc. This implies that while building local websites and apps, you have a lot of possibilities.
Compared to other tools on this list, it provides less control over each environment's components, but because it has fewer options, it is one of the easiest to use.
You can also choose to use MAMP Pro, the tool's commercial version, if you truly want all the capabilities and options, like a built-in editor, the ability to set up Nginx servers, and a mobile testing tool.
5) Vagrant
If you like to run virtual computers on your computer and use them as environments for your projects, Vagrant is a fantastic tool. You may quickly create up different Multi-VM machines and launch them all with a single command using a single configuration file.
Additionally, Vagrant stores configuration settings in a text file, placing them under source control. Therefore, you may use Vagrant to reload the virtual machine and undo any modifications made to your website in case something goes wrong.
6) Laragon
Despite being more recent than some of the environments on our list, Laragon boasts blazingly quick performance and effortless installation. On Windows devices, Laragon offers what may be the simplest installation for MySQL, PHP, Perl, and Apache web servers.
Furthermore, PHP extensions can be activated with a single click, in contrast to earlier tools. Laragon lets you share your work with clients or colleagues and is free to download and use.
7) Laravel Valet
For Mac minimalists, Valet by Laravel offers a distinctive local WordPress development environment. When you turn on your Mac, it sets up Nginx to run in the background. Valet then proxies all requests to websites that are installed on your machine via DnsMasq.
As a result, while consuming a remarkably small amount of RAM, the programming environment becomes even faster than Laragon. Valet is quicker, simpler to use, and ideal for systems with less RAM than XAMPP or Vagrant, even
if it lacks some of their features and power.
8) Instant WP
An excellent local WordPress website powering option is Instant WP. Despite lacking the robustness of some of the more capable environments, this tool's ability to run from a USB drive and on both Windows and macOS is one of its strongest features.
Therefore, if you need to work on a WordPress project locally on several PCs or wish to share a copy of your project without hosting it on a web server, Instant WP is a practical option.
9) DevKinsta
For Windows, Ubuntu, and macOS, DevKinsta is a free local WordPress development environment.
DevKinsta allows you to launch as many websites as necessary by mimicking the one-click WordPress site creation process locally. It also allows users to switch between PHP versions for testing and supports the most recent versions of PHP.
DevKinsta uses Docker to quickly and securely create a local WordPress environment that enhances security, performs well, and makes upgrades and bug fixes simpler.
10) Duplicator
You can replicate a WordPress website to your local computer or another hosting account with Duplicator, a free, wildly popular, and highly rated WordPress plugin.

Apple HyperCard (1987) with Computer Chronicles clip featuring the creator, Bill Atkinson from Apple
Wikipedia -
HyperCard is a software application and development kit for Apple Macintosh and Apple IIGS computers. It is among the first successful hypermedia systems predating the World Wide Web. HyperCard combines a flat-file database with a graphical, flexible, user-modifiable interface.

HyperCard combines a flat-file database with a graphical, flexible, user-modifiable interface. HyperCard includes a built-in programming language called HyperTalk for manipulating data and the user interface.
This combination of features – a database with simple form layout, flexible support for graphics, and ease of programming – suits HyperCard for many different projects such as rapid application development of applications and databases, interactive applications with no database requirements, command and control systems, and many examples in the demoscene.
HyperCard was originally released in 1987 for $49.95 and was then included for free with all new Macs sold. It was withdrawn from sale in March 2004, having received its final update in 1998 upon the return of Steve Jobs to Apple. HyperCard runs in the Classic Environment, but was not ported to Mac OS X.
HyperCard influenced the development of the Web in late 1990 through its influence on Robert Cailliau, who assisted in developing Tim Berners-Lee’s first Web browser. Javascript was inspired by HyperTalk.

my hackintosh journey
formatting usb's to a gpt partition without gibmacOS's python script (only on windows with the bat cmd launcher script) was a pain for about a day or two and I wasn't aware it existed until I found it and it's still broken write to usb command is unavailable because the download server is off so writing the OS dmg images required transmac and that's if you can even find a proper installer. I also realized I was copying the ventura mac installer incorrectly to the drive then figured I should just boot efi's in a seperate usb drive to solve partitioning or read/write issues. My config.plist file had many things inaccurate and proper tree manager and ocat auxilary tools don't come with manuals. After finding a proper coffee-lake efi without any model identifiers, I used OCAT to generate an SMBIOS of iMac 19,1 and proper tree to edit some values like securebootmodel to disabled and enablewriteunprotector to true then rebuilt it, saved and pasted some prebuilt ACPI SSDTs then rebuilt the config file again. This is all after the original high sierra install which needed a proper clover EFI so I had used the one I found from AIO Clover Boot method's img file off an abandoned blog. Once I had High Sierra running I used a script from tonymacx86 to install web drivers for the OS but it broke for some reason after many reboots of the ventura installer. So I had to then update the OS and then installed the original web driver from nvidia. After that installation, you are required to use opencore's legacy patcher to build the new OS usb or off the app store with the dd to usb terminal command but opencore's method is easier. My take is... If you want to be able to run mac OS X on a PC just buy one. KVM's on Qemu with linux using Sosumi are outdated, they don't support usb passthrough correctly if you don't have the USB Kext installed for your mobo or Qemu updated and set up with virt-manager which is some other nonsense of it's own. The whole thing is a mess all over the internet without any proper guide to complete it all in 2023. That's even after you figure you can run the legacy patcher's root patch for GPUs - says it runs on ventura but I didn't test it and without metal app support.. and you still need to know the secret boot arguments for your GPU if it's not AMD based and you'll likely get some Invalid X symbol at the second boot for not disabling system integrity protection while rooting or not copying over the EFI bc I don't even know how to safe boot to a hackintosh for turning off SIP if it doesn't boot in the first place. I will stay on Windows 10 and keep my High Sierra installation though because old software is kinda neat, less broken, and faster than whatever is out in the wild. Manjaro Linux running gnome on the other hand, or Fedora are really good for running servers without needing windows license keys and it's probably why sysadmins like linux so much tho the other software on it mostly sucks and so without maiOSX running on edge and all the web apps it's toast and the safari developer thingy on iOS doesn't work on high sierra unless you update iTunes probably which is a security update of 2gb that will break the GPU again.. it's just awful how de-constructing updates and things are on all those mac OSes are. ventura looked neat though but, too grey for me. not dark enough.

Linuxizing the Office: An Interview with The Mad Botter

If you follow us on Twitter, you’ve probably seen software development company The Mad Botter dangling a System76 machine before your very eyes. Thanks to the company’s recent conversion to Linux, that’s not the only System76 machine you’ll find there! This week, we sat down with Michael Dominick, The Mad Botter’s Founder and CEO, to discuss his team’s switch to System76.
What kind of work goes on at The Mad Botter?
Michael: We’re a software development company. We mostly code on Python, along with some Ruby and Rust, coding IDEs, and using a whole lot of LibreOffice. One of our products is a radar display that runs on Linux and Windows. We actually use a Thelio as a flight simulator to test our software.
Our new product is an automation tool called Rabbot. It involves us having to very quickly spin up a bunch of Ubuntu servers for customers who need them. Having the .deb instances on our computers has made that process a hundred times easier, because we can deploy test units to our machines with the same docker container that works exactly the same as it does on our cloud instances.
Why is it called Rabbot? And what’s with The Mad Botter?
I went a little crazy with the Lewis Carroll references. I have a degree in literature, so I’m very familiar with Carroll’s work. When I moved from New Jersey down to Florida, the name of the company conflicted with a very large football team in Florida, and they did not like that. I had to rejigger everything. We already had a product called Alice at the time, so we decided to build around that.
How long have you been in business?
The Mad Botter has been around for 3 years, and the company before it in New Jersey was around for an additional 3 years. I’ve been running development businesses for around 11 years.
How did you hear about System76?
When I was hosting Coder Radio with Chris Fisher, he would always tease me for being an Apple guy. You know—hipster coffee, the whole thing. He told me, “If you really want a controlled experience to try Linux, take a look at these guys in Denver.” So I did. It wasn’t a huge investment to try on a laptop, and I ended up loving it, so I got the Ratel tower. That was the beginning of a long road to Linux purity.
What System76 machines do you have around the office?
I was the first one to adopt a System76 computer at the company. Now, to make life easy, we only buy System76 computers. Currently we have an older Galago Pro, a Thelio, and 3 Lemur Pros. There’s a couple of Darter Pros running around, too. All of our machines are running Pop!_OS 20.04.
Moving forward, we’re standardizing down to the Lemur Pro and the Oryx Pro. People who have to run VMs are getting the Oryx Pro because you can spec it up a little more. Everybody else is using the Lemur Pro, which is a great all-around computer. The Thelio is a special case because we have to run our flight simulation software on it.

What prompted you to bring your company fully onto Linux?
Honestly, it was macOS Catalina. We were having too many problems with people updating OS X and breaking Homebrew packages, to the point where we had to reinstall our custom toolchain every time we updated. The last guy on Mac updated to Catalina recently, and he had to struggle with Excel libraries because Apple moves things between OS versions. It just wasn’t worth it. I’ve been talking about it for about a year with my CTO.
All of our back-end service runs Ubuntu. Most of the client-side work we’re doing is for IOT devices, and that’s all Linux. We ended up basically having an expensive machine so that we could emulate Linux on anything. It didn’t make a lot of sense to keep using Mac, so we switched.
How was the transition from macOS to Linux?
Actually super easy! Once we wrote a few setup scripts and packages we needed for different jobs in our pipeline, we were up and running. We already had a bunch of scripting and automations for the servers we had, and they’re all on Ubuntu, so it’s not a big jump in terms of the command line.
How did you find the overall experience on Pop!_OS 20.04?
I found it pretty intuitive. Learning the keyboard shortcuts took about a week. I really don’t have any issues. I like the tiling, I use that every day. It definitely makes it easier to multitask on a laptop screen.
Have you tried other distros?
We had a brief stint with Fedora, but because all of our back end was on Debian or Ubuntu, it made sense to stick with that Debian world. We also tried Linux Mint briefly. But honestly the ease of being able to buy a system pre-installed with Pop!_OS that you guys support—where I can just go to your GitHub and see if there’s an issue—is an attractive option.
Have you had any experiences with our support team?
I have a bad habit of spilling tea and other beverages in my laptops... A few times you guys were able to walk me through my issue. I think the most recent one was with Thelio. There was an issue with the graphics card where only one of the DisplayPorts actually worked, so they walked me through trying different things and we were eventually able to figure out why that was happening.

BEST PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES FOR WEB DEVELOPMENT
The most ideal approach to arrive at new customers and keep rehash clients is to fabricate your site and keep up it consistently. Correspondence should consistently be open, and clients ought to get reactions to their inquiries in a convenient way. Furthermore, products and services should have detailed descriptions, be updated often, and revised as needed. It is vital to track sales and generate leads and make changes along the way. With that, it is basic to ace the top programming languages for web development to see organizations proceed to develop and flourish. The best programming languages to learn (and keep on relearning) include: 1) JAVASCRIPT JavaScript allows for more complex and creative features on a website and mostly caters to front-end web development. This is in tune with the client’s side, in terms of what they see from their computer or mobile device. Examples include interactive displays, graphic designs, and varying modes of multimedia. It is multi-paradigm and event-based, meaning codes are executed when a user hovers over or clicks on an icon. Major companies that use JavaScript include Netflix, Groupon, Uber, and eBay. This example reinforces how JavaScript is an ideal programming language for people who are directly and regularly interacting with a particular website. As a result, the user experience is fast, with code running from each browser directly without any interruptions. 2) HTML / CSS Hypertext markup language (HTML) / Cascading style sheets (CSS) can go hand-in-hand, but also be independent of one another. HTML is the basic backbone and the markup language of a webpage, which has the actual content written out. Examples include texts, links, and other information. CSS is what makes a website stick out by adding color, layouts, and designs. It makes HTML language have a style and flair of its own. The two can be used when making a presentation, and are great for blogs, personal websites, and social media sites. Hence, website developers can present varying styles to different users, all while enhancing search engine optimization with greater accessibility. 3) PYTHON Python is another language that is easy to understand and is very user-friendly. It is object-oriented and supports several programming paradigms. It is mostly used for back-end web development, which encompasses the hidden aspects of a website, such as the scripts and data applications. It was designed to allow additional interfaces for current applications. Examples of famous companies that use Python includes Instagram, Spotify, and Firefox. Moreover, it is perfect to use in the academic field, such as when studying image processing and data science. Due to its enhanced process control functions, it is quick in terms of speed and productivity. 4) PHP Personal home pages, or hypertext preprocessor (PHP) is a general-purpose, extendible, scripting language used for web development. The coding is executed on the server and sent to the client without them knowing of any running scripts. It runs on many platforms, such as Mac OS X and Windows, which is highly compatible with almost every server and is implemented for static and dynamic websites. It is open-source and free to use and can modify and encrypt data, control user-access, send and receive cookies, and alter server files. Companies that use PHP include WordPress, Facebook, and Wikipedia. Another advantage is it has a high-performance level, with low maintenance costs. 5) JAVA Java is often a good first language to grasp, and it has been around for quite some time. Nonetheless, it remains one of the most influential and important languages to learn when it comes to web development, as it runs on over three billion devices on a global scale. It is both class-based and object-oriented, and can run on any platform (e.g., iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, etc.). Hence, it is a general-purpose programming language that is multi-paradigm. Some well-known giant tech companies that use Java include Google, Twitter, and Amazon, as well as an extensive number of other applications. Java is multi-threaded and can perform multiple tasks at once. Overall, it is a straightforward programming language with hardly any complicated features, and simple to debug. 6) C++ C++ is a high-performance language that is object-oriented. As a result, they are often used with applications that can direct critical issues and have a secure software infrastructure. C++ is also the programming language chosen for video games and commercial products such as Adobe Photoshop. It is also used for web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome and can render open-source projects and develop databases. Furthermore, C++ excels at creating operating systems such as Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office. By and large, it has multiple sets of uses and is compatible with many platforms. 7) C C is general-purpose and one of the oldest yet commonly used languages in web development. It is the basis of other programming languages, such as C++ and JavaScript. It is a middle-level programming language that is versatile since it can be used for scripting for drivers and kernels and software applications. It can simplify complex programs into functions and move data across. It has many built-in features and is often used for video games, 3D graphics, and enterprise applications. Companies that use C programming include Adobe, Microsoft, and Google. When building any website, it is important to create solid content with engaging features. The software and database need to be reliable, and the interface also needs to pique a user’s interest. Thus, it is essential to understand a variety of programming languages to boost your web development and create a compelling webpage. Conversing Mp4 To Wav With The Same File Title In Python
Have to convert recordsdata with out downloading software program? WAV (WAVE) information are audio recordsdata playable by the use of multimedia playback software program program reminiscent of House home windows Media Player and totally different software accessible on your working system. These recordsdata comprise any sounds resembling sound effects, music or spoken words. WAV information are giant in dimension and with the appearance of MP3 and MP4 WAV data have gotten a lot much less customary and fewer frequent. They had been created and developed by IBM and mp4 to wav converter download free Microsoft but unlike MP3 and MP4 the WAV file format would not use a sort of lossy compression so file sizes are subsequently a lot greater and now a lot less effectively-appreciated. In the Open Media dialog, click on on the Add button and browse in your music file. Then click on Open. Notice that this command uses sed to parse output from ffprobe for every file, it assumes a three-letter audio codec name (e.g. mp3, ogg, aac) and will break with something completely different. Step 1 Import MP4 or WAV information to MP4 to WAV converter. The MP3 you add doesn't get re-encoded by this website, and mp4 to wav converter download free extra steps are taken so the audio high quality is nearly as good as it may be on YouTube. Stellar is compatible with 7 of the most popular audio file codecs—MP3, MP4, WMA, WAV, AAC, OGG, and FLAC. Not as broad as the one for the highest converters, however good enough to transform most of the in style audio files. The program can also be capable of extracting audio data from video files. And simply because the identify implies, it does a stellar job converting video file formats to different codecs. An audio converter is a software program used to transform one type of audio file (like an MP3, WMA, WAV and many others) to another. For instance, when you have an audio file whose format isn't supported by any of your pc packages , then you definitely won't have the ability to play the file without converting it to a format that your laptop helps. This is the place audio converter software comes in handy. Don't anticipate to transform MP4 to WAV with VLC as a result of VLC does not support WAV in its conversion. So, one of many few decisions is to resort to some powerful third-celebration video converter. Most video converters require the consumer to upload their recordsdata and select an acceptable output setting earlier than choosing a save location within their laptop's directory. The perfect items of software, nonetheless, also pave the way with intuitive features, constant updates, and a large toolbox of choices. Another huge plus point to Sound Converter versus different apps of this sort is that it has full help multithreaded conversion. This sounds technical and aloof however it means the app is able to convert large numbers of files rapidly, utilising all available processor cores. To retrieve information about video files, this system makes use of the library ( ). Open the Audio tab, click the WAV preset group, and choose the preset. For WAV-to-MP4 conversion, open the Video tab, click the MP4 group, and select the preset that is greatest for you. Audials Tunebite Platinum is appropriate with 40 import formats and can convert to eleven output codecs. It is not as fast as Swap, but its streaming content recorder is probably the most impressive. OKAY, now, let's check the steps of constructing MP4 to WAV conversion in your pc. Whole Audio Converter is a straightforward-to-use device conversion tool with assist for a bunch of codecs and www.audio-transcoder.com ability to rip audio CDs. Word: When putting in the Freemake Audio Converter, be sure to uncheck what you do not need as the Freemake installer will attempt to put in different packages not related to the converter. "Freemake Video Converter has been my go to converter for fairly a while but unfortunately it now watermarks the entire transformed video as well as including splash screens before and after." So says pipso-facto's post and it is spot on. Only examine this if the hyperlink factors to a video portal and never directly to an audio or video file. Be aware: YouTube is just not supported. The program name was changed from Pazera MP4 to MP3 to Pazera Free MP4 to MP3 Converter.

Something awesome update #02 - Deadlock
Somehow I spent the last three days working on how to bypass the notification below when I plug the ducky into my Mac, instead of working on file exfiltration code itself.
The Youtube video I found follows the below method:
Press down the reset button, hold and plug in the rubber ducky to get it into the dfu programming mode (i.e. boot loader mode)
Flash the firmware
Upload osx.hex, a version of ducky firmware that happens to configure the rubber ducky in such a way that VID and PID are changed into ones of Apple, leading the system to believe it’s an Apple Keyboard
So I downloaded Macport then configured DFU programmer in an attempt to enter the Arduino into boot loader mode to flash the firmware. But the command to flash the firmware requires the chip number of Arduino Leonardo and somehow the “board information” section in the IDE doesn’t contain this information. So I did some research to figure out how to acquire the chip number, and it turns out that Atmega32u4 doesn’t have an official serial number assigned to it, which is an issue reflected by other users as well.
After half a day of research I realised that Arduino Leonardo uses a totally different way to flash the firmware than the microprocessor employed by the rubber ducky in the video. I’m cooked. What’s worse is that there’s no DFU mode on Leonardo as it uses Caterina as its boot loader, and to get my ducky into boot loader mode I only have to open Arduino Leonardo’s serial port at 1200 baud and close it, which gives me 8 seconds to upload the flash the hex file onto the device.
I did another day of research and found two ways to achieve the last step:
Flash it using python code provided by https://stackoverflow.com/questions/45646127/how-to-upload-a-hex-file-into-an-arduino-leonardo-using-avrdude-from-the-command.
Download Avrdude and flash it with command avrdude -C ../etc/avrdude.conf -v -p atmega32u4 -c avr109 -P port -b 57600 -D -U flash:w:filename.hex:i *given by https://www.reddit.com/r/arduino/comments/5kzqad/help_cannot_figure_out_how_to_flash_a_hex_file/*
Arduino Builder would’ve been a good choice but the tool does not have an OS X version :(
But then I realised that the ducky firmware (i.e. osx.hex file) is probably incompatible with Arduino hardware as it was designed by hak5 for its own ducky device...
So I did a whole half day of research on how to change VID/PID on Arduino Leonardo and finally ended up with a solution inspired by https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=360330.0.
It took me a while to find boards.txt as somehow the pathways given by my research are only for Linux and Windows...After hours of meaningless searching, this line captured my attention in preference.txt stored in /Library/arduino15: last.ide.1.8.9.hardwarepath=/Applications/Arduino.app/Contents/Java/hardware(Yes I came across a Youtube video revealing the path two days later...mixed feelings indeed)
So I jumped into the hardware file and my guts led me to figure out boards.txt eventually. Edited VID/PID as followed:
Restarted the IDE showed me the correct board name but VID/PID remained the same in the board info section. So I did a whole night of research, jumping back and forth in the directory. I tried adding USB_MODEL_PID in the descriptor.h file in usb-serial and usb-dfu, which obviously broke something so I reverted changes. Then I doubted if I should change the #defined AVR_LEONARDO to properly change board configuration, so I spent another hour trying to find the file defining board configuration, which turned out to be in the usb-serial folder and only contained LEDs.h, which had nothing to do with defining Leonardo configuration.
Then I noticed the quotation mark that wraps around the company name is different from the ones used in other sections:
So I changed it, affected nothing.
Out of desperation I compiled the file exfiltration code again and did another testing, and miraculously it changed from default 2341:8036 to the allegedly Apple VID/PID I assigned to it:
That marked the breakthrough of the deadlock I’ve been working on for the past few days...A surprisingly simple solution derived from needless trial-and-error efforts :(

How to Extract Data from Apple App Store?

We all are familiar with the Apple App store. Here, we will brief some information about it. The Apple App store is an online store where you can purchase and download software applications and mobile apps for Apple computers and devices. Initially, this app, known as an online app store for mobile devices, is generated by Apple’s iOS mobile Operating store, including iPad, iPhone, and iPad touch. But it has gained its expansion to Mac App Store for applications purchasing like Mac OS X personal computers.
The Apple App Store is a ground-breaking medium for downloading native iOS applications easily. You can easily purchase and download directly to the device. Moreover, it is also accessible via Apple’s iTunes software and then transferred to the iOS device. However, more than 500,000 apps are available on the Apple App Store. These apps majorly share the app store market.
It is a well-known platform exclusively meant for Apple users. In today’s era, everyone is inclined towards gadgets usage and highly depends on their functionalities to perform essential day-to-day services. To satisfy the need of millions of people across the globe, the app store possesses apps loaded with several functions. These apps are known to possess high-security features.
Web scrapers extract data from reviews and app details in the app store. This article will discuss simple steps to extract data from Apple App Store.
Why Scraping App Store
The app store contains various categories like TV, movies and streaming, lifestyle, travel and food, books and magazines, social networking, and lots more. These apps also possess information related to ratings, reviews, downloads number, etc. Customer sentiments and feedback is essential to enhance the app’s functioning. Manually reading thousands of feedback is a tedious task. Hence, by automating the 0065traction process, you can easily extract any information in real-time.
Benefits of Scraping App Store
Understanding customers’ requirements are the highest priority. Scraping reviews and analyzing them gives a better understanding of customers’ negative and positive feelings.
Scraping enables tracking what’s trending. It, however, analyzes trends and new updates. Based on that, it picks the trending keywords that might help boost the app’s reach.
It helps investigate the app’s popularity. By extracting information about trending and popular apps, developers can enhance the betterment of their apps.
Scraping and analyzing data boosts the rate of success of specific marketing strategies.
Tools and Steps Involved in Apple App Store Data Extraction
Here we are using Scrapy, a web-scraping Python tool that will accomplish the task perfectly.
Name of the app
Size in MB
Category
Compatibility
Languages
App Ratings (0-5)
Age Ratings
Price
Total Ratings
Data Cleaning and Pre-processing
After we scraped the raw data, we used multiple tools in Python to ensure that our data were cleaned and formatted. The primary tool for cleaning is the Panda library. Next, we encapsulated all pre-processing code in a function for more elegant data analysis.
Data Analysis
The first thing we analyzed was the app size (MB) distribution. Our objective was to understand the app size density installed in the App Store and their ranges. We observed that most applications are between 50 and 100 MB. The below image illustrates this:
The above image depicts that the gaming category has the highest rating category on the app store.
Lastly, we looked into the most-rated new apps and found that Twitter and Reddit lead the top 10.
Scrape App Store Reviews using Python
Using the Python package installer, first, install the app_store_scraper
For the demo, here we are using the random app. Let’s take an example of the Slack app.
Now convert the data into JSON format to make it more readable and structured. Use the following code to do this:
This final step converts the data frame into a comma-separated value format.
Save this Slack-app-review csv file into your folder, and you are ready to go.
Conclusion:
Thus, the ever-changing digital world generates a plethora of data daily. Millions and millions of apps hosts on the App Store, which has extensive market reach. Companies, however, require ratings and reviews data to modify and maintain their apps. With web scraping, you can easily understand users’ sentiment and by utilizing these understandings, companies can enhance their app functionalities. It also benefits companies to release new app updates and improve their marketing strategies.

How to choose the most suitable programming language for your custom software development?

There are a mystifying number of custom software development languages available, all with their own strengths and weaknesses. Whether you are needing a web application or the newest mobile application that sweeps the world by storm, possibilities are endless.
The IEEE Spectrum association has painstakingly made a list of the most used languages, using its own surveys, data from Google, and GitHub. In that list of the different languages analyzed, Python appears as the most popular, followed by JavaScript, PHP, and Ruby.
In practice, the use of one language or another varies greatly depending on the needs and also on the preferences of the developer themselves. Despite this, the IEEE survey points out a trend in which open source languages are preferred by developers as they allow them to study, modify and improve their design.
When selecting which language to work is best suited for the development of the application, it is important to know the differences, similarities, their advantages and disadvantages, and which is particularly suited to achieve your goals. Ideally, you would also familiarize yourself with the increasingly widespread framework concept, which refers to the set of good practices, modules, and libraries of each language to address specific projects and needs.
Ruby. It is one of the programming languages that has experienced the greatest growth in recent years. Created by Yukihiro “Matz” Matsumoto, Ruby is an open source, object-oriented programming language that enables both web and desktop programming. For the programming of websites or web apps, its well-known framework “Rails” is used.
ASP.NET. It is a language created by Microsoft and requires a Windows server for its use. It is mainly used to develop dynamic websites, web applications or XML web services.
PHP. It is a widely used, flexible and powerful open source server language, well suited for web development. It has been used to create millions of websites in the world, including some as well known as Wikipedia or Facebook. This popularity means that there are several frameworks that can be used when tackling a web project or a WebApp, such as Codeigniter, Symfony, CakePHP, Laravel or Zend.
Python. Also open source, object-oriented that allows the creation of dynamic and complex websites that are easy to update and have a short loading time. Currently, it is used on popular websites such as Pinterest, Instagram or Dropbox. Although there are multiple frameworks, the most widely used and well-known is Django, its web framework.
JavaScript. It is one of the languages, if not “the language”, most used and popular to execute on the client side. Thanks to its multitude of frameworks, really impressive developments can be made. The best known are jQuery, Backbone.js, Ember.js, Knockout.js or Angular.js. To run server-side, its Node.js framework is used.
Objective-C. This programming language is object-oriented and is especially used to create applications for Mac OS X and iOS. It is a layer above C, so it is possible to compile any program written in C with an Objective-C compiler.
Swift. Created by Apple, so its application is exclusive to the development of applications on Mac OS X and iOS. One of its biggest advantages is that you can use any library programmed in Objective-C and call C functions, which allows developers to exchange part of the code according to their preference.
Dart. If Swift is the language for OS and iOS, Dart is the open source language created by Google for Android, its objective is not to replace Javascript, but to propose a more modern alternative. Moreover, it could be said that Google has elaborated the structure of Dart thinking that developers who know JavaScript feel comfortable with this new environment.
As evident by the brief summary of this list, there are far more options available than we could cover. Determining the right fit for your next project is no easy task. That’s why so many have chosen to work with Software Development experts, like CodingIT, to help them make the right decision for their needs. A full accounting of the pros and cons of each language are required to ensure you are starting from the right place, every time.
It is always advisable to compare different knowledge sources and do your own research to help ensure your next project is set up for success. There are many developer communities that often include forum threads ranking each language’s ability to accomplish certain tasks, numerous polls on the most popular options, and lengthy debate regarding the pros and cons.
Best of luck on your software journey and know that we are here to answer any questions you may have!

Credit to the formatting based on the ones I've seen floating around on Reddit There are a few and I cant find origin and images from the wiki. Clicking on each cell in the table toggles between the colour's. You can change the existing colours in code or even add new ones to cycle between. Currently I haven't added the ability to export as an image so for now you have to use a form of screen capture. Also on a screen with a resolution smaller than x you will have to stitch your screenshots together, I have scrollbars. Also if any of the information is outdated please let me know or even just PR a fix so I can update. There wasn't really one detailed reliable source that's up to date that I could find. Homebrew will install a couple of packages required by Python and then Python itself. Now that you’ve got Homebrew installing Python is simple: brew install python See or type brew help or man brew for more info on Homebrew. Normal executables go in /usr/local/bin/ and Python scripts installed by Homebrew go in /usr/local/share/python/. bash_profile) file: export PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/share/python:$PATH To add Homebrew installed executables and Python scripts to your path you’ll want to add the following line to your. Homebrew installs things to /usr/local/ so you don’t need sudo permissions. To install it simply launch a terminal and enter ruby -e "$(curl -fsSkL /mxcl/homebrew/go)"

Homebrew is an excellent package manager for Mac OS X that can install a large number of packages. (You’ll need a free Apple ID.) (See also. If you prefer another editor it’s possible to get only the libraries and compilers that you need with the Command Line Tools for Xcode. However, I use hardly any of its features and unless you’re an iOS or Mac developer you probably won’t either.

I use the Xcode editor because I like its syntax highlighting, code completion, and organizer. On Lion you can install Xcode from the App Store, on Snow Leopard you’ll have to get an older Xcode from. You will need Apple’s developer tools in order to compile Python and the other installs. Update: If doing all the stuff below doesn’t seem like your cup of tea, it’s also possible to install Python, NumPy, SciPy, and matplotlib using double-click binary installers (resulting in a much less flexible installation), see this post to learn how. On Snow Leopard you won’t install Xcode via the App Store, you’ll have to download it from Apple.Īfter I’d helped my friend I found this blog post describing a procedure pretty much the same as below. These instructions are for Lion but should work on Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion without much trouble. See the “Install Python” page for the most recent instructions.Ī bit ago a friend and I both had fresh Mac OS X Lion installs so I helped him set up his computers with a scientific Python setup and did mine at the same time. Update: These instructions are over a year old, though they may still work for you.

You can work around the bug in Xcode 3.2.x by using the -k-no_order_inits command line parameter when compiling a dynamic library. There is however an issue when compiling dynamic libraries with FPC under Mac OS X 10.6 due to a bug in the Xcode 3.2.x linker. Xcode 3.2.x - 4.2 compatibility (Mac OS X 10.6)įPC 3.0.4 is qualified for use with Mac OS X 10.4 till macOS 10.14. Afterwards, FPC will install and function correctly. To install them manually, open Xcode, go to Preferences, select "Downloads" and install the "Command Line Tools". Xcode 4.3 and later however no longer install the command line tools by default, which are required by FPC. Xcode 4.3 - 5.x compatibility (Mac OS X 10.7/OS X 10.8)įPC 3.0.4 is qualified for use with Mac OS X 10.4 till macOS 10.14. To install them manually, open "/Applications/Utilities/Terminal", execute "xcode-select -install" and choose "Install". Xcode 5 and later however no longer install the command line tools by default, which are required by FPC. Xcode 5+ compatibility (OS X 10.9 for OS X 10.8, see below)įPC 3.0.4 is qualified for use with Mac OS X 10.4 till macOS 10.14.

See also the section below on how to install the command line tools. If you already installed FPC under a previous Mac OS X/OS X/macOS version, you will have to reinstall FPC 3.0.4a under macOS 10.14 to get a configuration file that enables the compiler to find the necessary files). Xcode 10 installs some command line file in different locations compared to previous releases. These workarounds are required because we do not pay Apple 79 euro per year, which would prove you can trust us.įPC 3.0.4 is qualified for use with Mac OS X 10.4 till macOS 10.14. If this does not work, you may first have to go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General, and "Allow apps downloaded from: Mac App Store and Identified developers". If you get the message that the FPC installer was created by an unknown developer and cannot be opened, right-click on the installation package and choose "Open" in the contextual menu.
