For just $30.00 special uzbek tajik silk handmade embroidery suzani loose fitting dress tunic UZBEK VINTAGE EMBROIDERED SUZANI DRESS We are happy to represent absolutely beautiful and lovely antique handmade embroidered silk suzani dress. Condition - vintage item, however, the item is preserved in very good condition. The term «suzani» («needle», «sewing by a needle») origins from Tadjik language «suzan» - "needle". Suzani, suzane, is the decoratively embroidered panel either on a white or color cotton fabric or silk, widespread among the people of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and used as an element of interior decoration. Suzani was a part of bride's obligatory dowry. Traditionally the embroidery started at a birth of the daughter and continued till the bride's dowry had not been completely collected. However, household use of such embroideries had also the ritual character connected with ancient beliefs in national consciousness: embroideries as a whole, and their separate patterns in people's representation had magic character, served for a young pair as a talisman against the evil spirits that could harm. The key Suzani designs are nests, flowers, images of birds, ancient magic symbols.
