crowley's miracle sound changes

did you know crowley does a nonstandard miracle when he creates the storm for the lesbian vavavoom? listen at s2e3. 37:23 and again at 37:50. it's like a hiss and an ahh.

angelic miracle sound: s2e5, 37:05

demon miracle sound: s1e2, 38:46

demonic miracle sound, when crowley releases the coffee shop from the lightning, s2e1, 38:38

demon miracle sound, s2e2, during the jim hiding half miracle: s2e1, 41:46

Maggie's miracle sound: s2e5, 26:51

az's miracle sound is the same from season 1. crowley's miracle sound FUCKING CHANGES. it's consistent through s2, but it's not the same as s1.

it does sound like the end of an angelic miracle, the "ahhh" sound? but the hiss isn't anywhere else. there's sort of a hiss in the demonic miracle noise? if my ears are correct, then it's a mix of both demonic and angel, if not something else entirely. he has powers beyond just demonic. he does not appear to be surprised by this power, and there's no fanfare from either heaven or hell, so i would think it is something he's always had--or at least had for a while. possibly from adam's reality reboot, but i don't really think so. he does no miracles that aren't the face swap after the reboot in s1 to check though.

he also calls the lightning without any miracle sound, that i can hear. could be covered up by the lightning sounds though.

i don't think the characters can hear the miracle sounds, they're not in-universe noises. nobody reacts to them, at least that i can tell.

crowley isn't the same crowley as in s1. he's different.

although when he restarts time at the end of s1 with adam, you kind of hear this same noise? it's also the same noise in s1 when they swap back after the face swap. if the swapping mixed their miracles, why wasn't az affected too? could it be that mixing only affects demons, "blesses" or restores them in some way? and if so, why isn't crowley reacting to it? it has been four years, but still, something like that should get an onscreen explanation. do neither of them remember things being different, even if that's not an in universe sound? surely it would feel different?

crowley also has another different miracle sound in s2e2 when he drops the kids to the cellar, an electronic scale type noise. but the same new noise as in s2, is used when he makes the hole to drop the watchmen into in s2e3 at 26:27. same noise when crowley shrinks in the same episode after taking the laudenum. it is also the same sound for his miracle of making the stars in s2e1 at 1:32. so it's not just changed in the future, present day, it's also changed in the PAST. i don't know if we can say the new noise is his original angel noise since we hear it all through the past too.

The big sis was based off of redesigns of her that made her more chunky in the traditional Kirby style, the lil sibling was based on ones that played into her circus/performer theme, and the black leopard brother was entirely my own creation. I just wanted her to have an equally vavavoom male kitty. (I love silly cartoon cats).

9th Day: The Enigma of The Rossignols

I dreamed Aziraphale drew a nightingale in 1941. He framed it and hung it on the vavavoom!yellow bookshop wall, right between Magritte’s “The Son Of Man” and a drawing of a skeleton key.

When Crowley saw it, he said: “Ceci n’est pas un rossignol”.

so I know I’m not the only one to think of this, but season 2 seemed, in a lot of the ways, a lot of the time, to be sort of from Aziraphale’s perspective? No voiceover narration from God but we did get voiceover narration from a diary entry of his. The design choice to crank the saturation up to 11 was flattering for Crowley’s complexion and colors (the vavavoom yellow eyes! that violently candy-red hair! the dark colors of his wardrobe - so much rich contrast, and if there are any universal rules of beauty, which is generally in the eye of the beholder, it’s that contrast is aesthetically pleasing). And - with all love to Aziraphale and Michael Sheen - the colors and the lighting were not as flattering for him, with his lighter palette and less sharp contrast (bring back season 1 eyebrows! where are they keeping them??)

I don’t have the patience for too deep of a dive into meta and interpretation, and there are people with a far keener and better-trained eye than me who have already delved much more thoroughly into color and design analysis, and I’m happy to leave that to them. But it just made me think about how much I would enjoy a version of season 2 more from Crowley’s perspective. What would be different, what would stay the same?
