Gotham’s Wedding of the Decade? An Intimate Peek into Dr. Quinzel and Jack Ryder's Exclusive Invite! 💍✨
Hello, my lovely readers of Alice’s Alley! 🎀
Alright, deep breaths! Where to even begin? As soon as I saw that luxe envelope (with its embossed seal, no less!) I knew it was something momentous. And lo and behold, inside was THE invite of the decade: Dr. Harleen Quinzel and Jack Ryder's wedding invitation! Eek! I can't even!
First off, the invite's sheer elegance and the fact that I, little ol' me, am on the guest list? 😍 Like, is this real life? Also, can we please talk about that QR code and the security level on this thing? Never have I felt more James Bond than when accessing the wedding details. The level of exclusivity? Off the charts!
Now, let's dive into the absolute splendor of the invite itself. That sumptuous black card with the delicate white details? The “J” & “H” emblem entwined? Every intricate detail has me gasping in awe. And, "Into the light from the shadows"? Profound. Moving. Iconic. I mean, swoon.
The location: Wayne Manor. Wayne. Manor. As in, THE Bruce Wayne might be in attendance? Oh-em-gee! How am I ever going to keep my cool? Mr. Tall, Dark, and Brooding in person? A photo op, perhaps? 📸
But now, ladies and gents, the real dilemma. What ever will I wear? The invite says: Strictly Black and White. Now, my heart is screaming Breakfast at Tiffany’s vibes. Audrey Hepburn chic, tiara, pearls, the works. But now I'm thinking, what if everyone goes down the Holly Golightly route? Must. Stand. Out. Or I could never show my face in Gotham again!
And oh, speaking of face, those bangs I impulsively cut? Perfect for an Audrey updo, right? But, but, what if they clash with the tiara? You see my dilemma. And the pearls... oh, decisions! Leave me your thoughts below, I'm in dire need of advice!
One tiny cloud on this sunny horizon though - my wallet is definitely going to feel a lot lighter. Oh, the price we pay for perfection. Between the new dress, shoes, and accessories, it's going to be a shopping spree to remember.
This isn’t just a wedding, dears. It’s an event. The crème de la crème of Gotham will be there, rubbing shoulders, sipping champagne. An evening of decadence, glamour, and hopefully some juicy gossip.
And of course, I’ll be spilling ALL the details right here after the grand affair! So, stick around, because you won’t want to miss the inside scoop, courtesy of yours truly!
Stay fabulous, my darlings, and keep those suggestions pouring in. Till the next gush session! 🍾🥂
In never-ending excitement and sparkles, Alice P. 🌸💄
P.S.: To all my new readers, welcome to our glam gang! You've stepped into a whirlwind of excitement! 😄 And remember, Breakfast at Tiffany’s look - yay or nay? Comment below! 💋💌

APPEARANCE
obvi the fc is julia fox, specifically in her ‘uncut gems’ era, and their style is a mix of cottagecore and light/romantic academia, with some vintage parisian and romantic italian influences. lots of linen, silk, satin, wool, cashmere, fur, just very soft textures and fabrics with a colour palette that includes neutrals and pastels, errs more on the modest side (so v different from ms fox herself lmao)

4 and 25 for whoever!
thank u lex!! 4. Who did they look up to as a child? Who do they look up to as an adult?
I already answered this one for craving and gent, so, i rolled randomly and got nissy!!  Nissy: As a child, definitely Leth. She was absolutely the coolest person Nissy had ever met in his life. She was smart, and fancy, and everyone liked her, and she was nice to him, and always encouraged him, and he wanted to grow up just like her!!! Like, in general, big sisters tend to be either menaces who know no bounds, or absolute goddesses who you could follow around like a puppy, and Leth was 100% the latter to nissy.
Now, I really don’t know. Our baby wildemount module caught him at a point in his life where he’s genuinely lost pretty much all sense of direction he has in life. He feels failed by the system and the authorities he was raised to revere, and he hasn’t yet found another cause that he can get behind. He still looks up to Leth a little bit, in the sense that he realizes he could still become her if he stuck to the paved roads a little bit more. But he’s also old enough to take off the rose-colored glasses and realize that she’s neither particularly happy nor perfect, and while he Loves her, she’s not his idol anymore.
Now, one fucking hilarious thought that I had is that he sort of looks up to Nakoria, because she’s usually on top she’s very confident and seems to make herself welcome anywhere, and he does vibe with that “no you Will take me, actually” thing that she has going on, even if she is like. an evil shithead. Nissy doesnt KNOW that.
25. What do their hands look and feel like? ok dyke,,,,,
I rolled and got ezra, which I will do, but i’m also going to do some of my women characters because lesbians deserve to hear about womens hands.
Ezra: i hesitate to even say this because someone’s gonna make this about his penis, but I think he has pretty big hands, short thick sausage fingers like me. They used to be very calloused on the palms, and in the 5 years he was working as a caretaker rather than a temple guard, they started to fade, and now they’re in that state where they’re fairly red and tender as he gets used to wielding again. I don’t think he has any interesting scars or markings on them.
Craving: its pretty hard to see what her fingers look like, because theyre like. Constantly covered in rings. She probably has a few marks from rings that she never takes off. She’s got short nails, because archery, but they’re Very well kept, and fairly slender fingers, though I think she’s got a bit of a gnarled pinky that broke and re-healed out of line. Apparently now she has a tattoo of her own signature down her left pointer finger, thanks Glasya. Other than that, she doesn’t have any tattoos (not that she doesn’t want them, but she doesn’t particularly trust people to draw on her with a needle for a very long time. piercings are one and done but this is too much time and contact), but she probably has some very faded, but still present, darker patches along the side of one of her hands from burn scars.
Gent: Being a sailor means he’s got rope-worked hands, fairly rough, also pretty tan / sun-spotted. He’s got a few small scars like, on his knuckles from fights that didn’t quite go his way and a mostly-faded slash on one of his palms from a very stupid incident involving smashing bottles while Super drunk on wine with some of the other sailors on the Wench. (Pro tip: Wine Swords is not as fun a game as it sounds to play!) They’re also very likely to be ink stained - he does a lot of writing both as a wizard doing spellwork and as the navigator doing charting and mapping things, and he’s rather prone to smudges and spills.

Tel Aviv 2019: Straight outta Romania to Eurovision with an edgy plea for a return of special someone
youtube
To be honest, I wasn’t that on board with Selecția Națională 2019, like, at all. I get that scandals happened and three songs withdrew from the comp. at various stages due to various reasons, but Romania is just Romania to me somehow. Well there were a few overall gems (some of them out of the finals too), but I just couldn’t be bothered to waste my Sunday evenings on a single broadcast of it. Plus, I was never that swayed by the two big fanwanks from here anyway, so I’m glad they flopped lol.
But maaaan did I have a bone to pick with the people reacting to it. Especially towards the Wiwi jurors. Look, there’s such a thing called as “song growing on you” and “performance elevating the song”, as well as the one that goes “getting over it”. Surely these aren’t make belief concepts of life, hmm? I’m not one of those people who prefer a song more or less thanks to its performance, but there are some good ones that occasionally change my opinion on a song, especially a ‘boring’ one! And thanks to those terrible people, some of Wiwibloggs videos were unfairly attacked with dislikes, and mind you, not only on the Romanian NF interviews that don’t have the current Romanian subject of choice, no - both first-reaction-after-qualifying-to-A-Dal-2019-final interviews (that were of these two) too. And it’s not even the first time a televote winner doesn’t win the NF so you should have SHUT. THE FUCK. UP. (- Penn Jilette) Clear? (:
(lol this is all directed to the people from like three months ago, obviously now that the writeup is late the drama has cooled down A LOT, especially in the light of Ukraine’s events and the actual dust of this Euroseason where everyone made amends with everything, but I can’t help but keep what I thought of this initially because I just wanted to write something for Romania as I didn’t have anything else to say until I remembered the drama so)
So here’s that one controversial subject that unexpectedly slayed the poor man’s “Fuego” and that one homophobic teen by hitting it hard by an extremely unbalanced jury vote (and 24 points to it coming from that core Wiwibloggs duo, no less) and her on-stage couch possessing - the half-local half-Canadian little to no known artiste, Ester Peony, who conquered all in her homeland “On a Sunday”, as her songtitle says (haha bad puns whoop.) Is it any more mesmerizing over the two fanwank fanflops, or is it, just like Wiwi said at first, ‘boring’? Hmm...
It starts of bluesy, with the Western-movie-sounding-pop guitar twangs accompanying the sound, and Ester begins reminiscing her love that left her on a Sunday of September, later followed by snap percussion. And deep inside she wants that person to come back “to [her], to [her], to [he-eeee-eeee-er], eh, eh, eh, eh”. She begs and pleads for the return for her loved one, as I believe the absence deeply upsets her (smoke from the ashtray, everything’s so cold an gray, loving is a hard price to pay) and eats her up from the inside to a degree. I never had someone to leave me like that on a whatever the day was, but I feel for Ester’s song’s protagoniste.
Here are some interesting things I find in this song: its progressive intensity; the decision of putting a 3rd verse up in the place of the bridge; right after some additional “eh eh eh eh” after the chorus (bridges are usually of completely different vocal line ways); cool voice of the singer’s; the strings; the beat... and the fact that it’s described as “electro-pop”. Pop I might get, in fact it sometimes reminds me of those older Billboard chart topper songs from mid-00s por so, or that it could have been one of those kind of songs. You needed just to give it to a popstar relevant of the time and voilà - a hit! Electro... not quite sure on this one. Maybe the bass that occurs in the 2nd and 3rd verses indicates something on it but that’s all.
And man do I hate to say this but the song's attitude is something that makes me wanna scream sometimes. It occasionally happens when I stop feeling so happy clappy for a song a few listens later because I just don't feel like caring about it anymore and that it starts making me feel some sort of a soulache because I trusted it in the first place. Kinda like "Funny Girl", Latvia 2018: I actually didn't mind it at first but its desperation got on my nerves a whole lot that I got completely irritated. "On a Sunday" has enough elements that I like to keep the irritation feeling at bay, but I doubt that even they will not make me want to smash a chair everytime I hear that chorus again... you think you can suppress your smugness overtime, song? Think again about it later
Oh and there's a supposed revamp, I doubt I would be able to feel any better about that song that way, as long as my mind just automatically recognizes Ester's singing as "whining" for some reason. It probably will make me feel less worse if I see a stage show similar to the absurd mess one from the NF where shit happens and Ester's just chilling on a chair. Game of Loans? Student loans? It was random but I definitely appreciated the scarlet madness all surrounding it. I hope to maybe see something similar in Tel Aviv - edgy imagery, why not. Bring on the candles and the ravens.
To summarize, I don’t think it’s a bad song at all. It’s daring, it’s badass, it's kickass, it comes right at you, grabs you in and you adapt to it however you can be able to. However...
Approval factor: I still have mixed feelings about passing it off as something approvable, but objectively I would like to do so. Good for you to try something different, Romania.
Follow-up factor: Anything at least half-decent is a fine follow-up after The Humans’s mediocrisms (I’m helping the dictionary to have more words, one construction at a time!). I liked the Humans more though and Ester... sort of? But in general context, Ester’s a fantastic successor.
Qualification factor: Somehow this did not sound like a definite Eurovision qualifier to me, so at one point I thought it would be just missing out... but it’s a complete effing borderline of a song. At one point it sounds good enough for a filler qualifier, at another it’s just not qualifying somehow. We’ll see how she rehearses it up in two days, though.
NATIONAL FINAL BONUS
I think there’s nothing more I can say about Selecția Națională (refered to as SN from this point onwards) than I already said in the intro, so let’s get to the moments, shall we? ;)
• So what else do I have to say about the fanwank-esses that hasn’t been said? Well, on one hand you have an Amazon-jungle-tribal version of “Fuego”, “Army of Love”, performed by Bella Santiago (who had one of my favourite SN entries last year lmao), who went all out with body paint and wild choreo and a rap bridge in Tagalog (one of Bella’s native languages) to make it all sound slightly different than “Fuego”, but still, that pre-chorus just feels like a pitched-down “Fuego” from a B minor to a G flat minor, with the same acoustics and the beat, and the drop is some limp-ass Amazon flutery magic. On the other hand you have a 16 year old Laura Bretan with an poperatic ode to her “Dear Father” which was praised for her insanely good vocal skills (I forgot what’s that called... an alto? soprano? mezzo-soprano? sorry I know a lot about music but not a lot about those ranges) more than the song itself... there’s a big problem about Laura though as people found out that she does not believe and/or condone a marriage between same-sex people. For Eurofans that’s a major red flag as as of lately Eurovision is very LGBTQ+ friendly and having had Laura next to people like Bilal or Mahmood would have probably been concerning if she knew of them having had boyfriends... Like I said, neither of those are special. Imo people loved Bella’s song because of the “Fuego” vibe and people loved Laura’s song because of her voice combined with her age. I said what I said. (Oh and there was a missed opportunity for Il Volo and Laura to reunite this year in Eurovision had they only been chosen in their NFs.)
• Screw these gals, now here come on the real faves of mine - another rock band, obviously, and that’s Trooper. No but for real, could at least ANY country have sent a rock song this year? It could have even been San Marino for all I cared but this year is so MoR without a rock entry... Trooper’s “Destin” sounds like something coming out from an epic fable about legendary heroes fighting for their glory of the nation by slaying goblins with wearing medieval costumes (with a sleeveless top and metal armor for the chest), bearing their long hair and looking strong and hunky. Lai-lai-la-la-la-lai!
youtube
• Now what were the other competing entries I liked? There were quite a few like the folk bop titled “D A I N A” and sung by Letiția Moisescu and Sensibil Balkan, then Teodora Dinu’s captivating pop tune “Skyscraper” and a really catchy non-qualifier entry by a band Steam, named “The Way It Goes”... no really Romania, why’d you let that flop... and why did you also let 2 Gents flop... and moreso importantly WHY DID YOU LET THE FOUR FLOP??? That’s like the best football-anthem-esque song I’ve heard in a while... such a shame it didn’t appear on the national selection’s final. Oh well. Poor those 4 young souls.
youtube
• Now what were those 3 (actually 4) withdrawals? First one was concerning the first ever Romanian representative Dan Bittman and his own problems so he couldn’t return to a NF and be one of the potential returning artists to Eurovision. Then there was this Australian-Romanian chick named Xonia who withdrew for seemingly no reason, all last minute. There was one more withdrawal from a semi-regular SN participant Xandra too, as well citing unknown reasons. And then there’s Mihai (or as he likes calling himself nowadays, M I H A I) who once again wanted to return to Eurovision (no wonder his Eurovision 2006 song was called “Tornero” lol) with an entry, and this one is called “Baya”. And then he went on an epic quest of flopping - firstly by withdrawing his song last minute from SN claiming that it’s corrupted, then considering to return as a wildcard, then thinking on to latching on to Eurofest in Belarus, but gotten sick last minute and therefore perma-cancelled his NFs journey this year entirely by not appearing on the Eurofest auditions. <3 Not to mention he’s a bit of a creep by subjecting people to his nude pictures with just him in his underwear. dude you’re almost 40, stop doing that to the kids. you’re not even a “daddy”. just look how alien you look on your song’s thumbnail:
youtube
• Netta continues her guest appearances on various NFs, such as in UK and in Spain (in spirit, as it was just the Triunfitos singing “Toy” at the beginning of the ESC OT Gala). This one even had her singing her newest song “Bassa Sababa” alongside “Toy”. Oh and there also was one of the Festivali i Këngës 56 alums coming by, Inis Neziri, to perform something for Romania after having won a music competition in Romania, and here’s her performance. But did she even have anything interesting in her backdrop as this?
Tumblr media
We know you did Netta sweetie but do you honestly need to reminds us? I did not see Eleni doing shit like this and I don’t want you to do the same. Well if anything I am glad Netta only gracefully performed “Toy” on EYD 2019 (which I missed in my “National Final bonus” section for the UK’s review (as well as them reminiscing Eurovision’s best moments) but frankly I don’t think you cared anymore about it when you learned I was gonna write so many long-ass paragraphs, so yeah)...
• So what was the exact thing again that made everyone such bitter Betties? Well, everyone foresaw Bella and Laura battling it out in this NF, having succesfully qualified together. They even did well in the televote. But then the jury vote happened, and it included the God-forbidden Wiwibloggs duo voting separately and usualy picking all the similar favourites based on performances. They were very pleased with Ester Peony’s on-stage chair prop and her dramatic mess so they gave her their 12s. INDIVIDUALLY. And that’s one of things that pushed Ester higher for the win, despite only having 3 points from the televote lol. But the worst part about it is their opinions: they have praised “Dear Father” so much for mostly the same reasons others praised it so much as well, and were stunned. A what they thought of Ester’s song? That it’s boring. And their mindset switched when voting on this NF, with 12ing Ester and only giving a few feeble points to Laura. That’s where the backlash ensued - not when Emmelie de Forest (yep she was in the jury too) did not give any points to Bella Santiago’s song - just for that notion alone. Maybe it was because of a REASON. Laura’s song in the end is just an uninteresting pop ballad with some additional vocal exercising (too flawless that you even tire from flawlessness), Ester at least brought something to liven up her song, and maybe Wiwis changed their opinion accordingly by not being enthused by Laura anymore! And what’s the problem with that, eh eh eh?.. oh right, y’all accusing Wiwibloggs having rated Laura down because she’s a homophobe. Real friggen’ obviously because of that, you guys. NOT. Grow a brain a bit, will ya. (and even a contestant named Linda Teodosiu was pissed about Wiwibloggs not giving her enough points lmao... her song was a typical ”rent a NF songwriter” spiel so she has no effin’ reason to be mad her ‘originality’ wasn’t awarded lol.)
Tumblr media
Worth noting that one of the other reasons people were mad that the juryvote points overpowered the televote big time (like 7 juror votes against 1 set of televotes - inequal) and therefore did not even listen to what they had to say (again, Ester had 3 freaking televote points lol). It’s a thing y’all should get used to - juries overrating an act one way or the other, against the televote’s will. It’s a given nowadays, remember. I know y'all Romanians wanted to scream "ESTER IS NOT OUR WINNER WE HAVEN'T DECIDED HER WE WANT BELLA/LAURA!!!" but that's the truth with the juries.
And thankfully, that is, what I think, all you need to remember from the SN headache this year. Fortunately it’s much smaller than the last year’s headache that, aside from 60 songs in total for 5 semis (!!!), also had a very strictly eliminative system that had 3 qualifiers each from a semi decided by juries ONLY (geez not even A Dal does that!), only to soften things up by having everyone fall down on televote’s hands only during the final. And then the final had the drama on its own. But if I reminisced it all on here, we’d be taking more than just all day, so it’s best that I stop this here and now, for all of ya who are already tired of all this waffle.
Good luck to Ester! and may all of your fans see you performing on a Saturday :)

Vivid, Living Colour’s Game-Changing Debut Album, Turns 30...
Tumblr media
Everyone has those bands and artist that have reached out through a pair of stereo speakers and stabbed them through the heart. Killing off their former selves. Thereby minting a broader-minded, further-reaching rendition -- a brand new you.
And that’s my relationship to the band serving as the subject of this anniversary classic album review.
The date doesn’t really matter...
But the event proved such a momentous occasion, the details are indelibly embossed onto my psyche.
It was a Friday night, decades ago. April 21, 1989, to be exact. My 14-year-old-self, a freshman in high school, and an acquaintance, a fellow 14-year-old on the path to becoming my first definitive “best friend,” and I attended our first legit rock show.
A Life-Changing Event...
And even at the risk of sounding grossly cliched, the experience changed my life. Forever. And very much for the better.
The architects of this transformation? The gurus taking center stage at the Michigan Theater, the 1,700 seat venue nestled in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan?
Four black gents hailing from the mean streets of NYC, collectively known as... Living Colour. An outfit that, thanks to witnessing this show, became my first Stated Favorite Band.
The band was riding hit on the wave of success generated by their chart-topping debut album, Vivid, which was released on this date -- May 3, 1989 -- some 30 years ago.
Vivid would go on to reach #6 on the Billboard album chart, selling over 3 million records internationally. While the band’s bona fide hit single and best known tune, Cult of Personality, would ultimately peak at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Band’s Sound...
Tough to pin down -- a synthesis of metal, thrash, punk, hardcore, and, wait for, hair metal, underpinned by a foundation of Funk, R&B, and hip-hop roots -- was instrumental in kicking off the Funk Metal revolution. Fueled by bands like Faith No More, Primus, Ice-T’s Body Count, and Suicidal Tenancies’ alter-ego, Infectious Grooves, Living Colour was at the forefront of this burgeoning sound, a shift that was likely the first nail in hair metal’s coffin, the blow struck as the Sunset Strip set was beginning to collapse under the weight of far too many cubic tons of Aquanet hairspray.
And this revolution was launched on the back of LC’s stunning debut, Vivid.
Vivid | Track-By-Track
Cult of Personality
The lead-off track, the hit single, Cult of Personality, was borne from an impromptu jam session that resulted in the tune’s titanic riff, which hA come to be known as vintage Vernon Reid. The guitarist’s “sound,” an amalgam of Reid’s formal jazz training (he was once a member of Decoding Society, helmed by esoteric jazz-fusioner Ronald Shannon Jackson’s ) and avant garde tone worships occupies a unique space on the musical spectrum. It lands somewhere between fleet-fingered technical brilliance and Greg Ginn (guitarist of Black Flag fame) inflected baseless and un-grounded noise histrionics.
As a writer for the UK music mag, Rock Candy, once noted...
“Just when you think Reid’s noise noodling is going to collapse under its own weight, he slams it back into the riff, returning order to the aural chaos.”
And this describes Cult’s tongue-twisting riff and stunning guitar acrobatics to perfection.
Meanwhile, the song’s indictment of celebrity culture, and it’s viral infection of world-leadership circles, turning politics into another more of entertainment-based "reality" competition, is as poignant today, amid the “Trump Era,” as ever before.
I Want to Know
The follow-up track, I Want to Know trends closer to glam metal territory, while at the same time, pushing vocalist Corey Glover’s soaring R&B soaked voice to the forefront.
Middle Man
Middle Man, up third, is based on a suicide note, penned by Glover. As a younger, depressed version of himself, Glover struggles to find his place in the apathetic world surrounding him. The song also features a monstrous riff from the incomparable Reid. Along with the rhythmic talents of jazz-school drummer, Will Calhoun, whose pounding beat gives the tune an unshakable foundation.
Desperate People
Next up is the thrilling Desperate People, sneakily one of the album best (and most underrated) tracks. Now, to my ear, the tune rings of Led Zeppelin's the Ocean. And this brings forward a once prominent comparison, which had many a critic dubbing Living Colour “ the black Led Zeppelin.” Apt or not, the parallel between Reid and Page’s incessant riffing, Glover and Plant’s powerhouse vocals, and Calhoun and Bonham’s rhythmic prowess are impossible to deny, particularly on this resounding track.
Open Letter to a Landlord
At the records midway point, Open Letter to a Landlord, digs deep into the blues-inflected soul, reeking of Curtis Mayfield-toned ‘70s R&B. And yet again, the song’s sentiment, chronicling wealthy, “profit above all else” driven slumlords, is as relevant today as it was upon the album’s 1988 release.
Funny Vibe
Funny Vibe gives the band an opportunity to flex their considerable chops on speedy, funk-fueled workout.
Memories Can’t Wait
Memories Can’t Wait, a Talking Heads cover, sees Reid indulging his avant garde tastes, while paying tribute to one of New York’s most influential “experimental bands.” And in the process, the band manages to turn in a totally rockin’ redefinition that towers above the original.
Broken Hearts
The Mick Jagger produced Broken Hearts is classic blues ballad, telling the timeless tale of love lost, replete with Harmonica breakdown, blown by Jagger himself.
Glamour Boys
Glamour Boys dives back into glam drenched metal, deriding a world overrun by dreaded “posers,” to the backdrop of an infectiously funky beat.
What’s Your Favorite Colour? (Theme Song)
Reid takes his guitar genius off the leash on the mostly instrumental What’s Your Favorite Colour. The band stretches out here too, rocking hard in an undeniably funky space. Meanwhile Glover does his best James Brown, channeling the R&B kingpins 10-story swagger.
Which Way to America
On the heavy rockin’ closing, Which Way to America, the band laments our long and still divided country. Additionally, Glover steps onto hip-hop turf, issue some able rap vocals on the powerful poignant tune.
And 30 Years Later...
What’s most striking about Vivid in 2018? If it was released today, it would burst forth from your speakers as fresh, current, powerful, and poignant as it did 30 years ago.
Reid’s distinctive riffs have never been matched, let alone surpassed. The band’s sound is present tense in every sense of the phrase. And the album’s production is utterly timeless.
Vivid's most familiar element, however, are its sentiments. How much of the album’s commentary is completely relevant today? In short, 100%.
Sadly, Vivid is living proof that each step our society takes forward is followed by two steps back.
The Good News...
Vivid RAWKS harder than ever. So hard, in fact, it’s guaranteed to stretch a full-faced grin across even the most enormous mug. I’m talkin’ ear-to-ear, friends!
Thus, if you haven’t heard the record in a while, or God forbid, have never heard it, I strongly encourage you to give Vivid a spin. You’ll most definitely be glad you did!

Should you play it correctly, your ceremony depart is going to be among the very heavily photographed minutes of your wedding  forget that the rose petals and birdseed.  Liven up your departure by passing out little bags of colorful confetti, paper planes, miniature beach balls, or perhaps lavender buds for every person to throw your way.  Better: Stage your miniature parade by passing out parasols and noisemakers to your visitors to escort you to your getaway car.
Unusual Wedding Songs
Sure a string quartet is fine, but you are going to blow guests off with a jazz trio or a Spanish guitar player.  For the party going through the cocktail hour, then start looking into hiring a mariachi band, a bluegrass group, or maybe a barbershop quartet for a few seriously unforgettable melodies.
A Wedding Dress Change
All eyes will be on you, so it will be a massive shocker when you move out of a timeless wedding gown for the ceremony into a briefer, flirtier dress in the reception.  When it is a cocktail dress you purchased (but could not find an excuse to wear) or a sparkly, white dress that is just too brief for your aisle, have fun with it!  If you honestly can not envision changing from your wedding gown, make different adjustments: Let down your hair, change your sneakers, or add several new pieces of jewelry.
Cocktails Served Differently
Catch guests' attention when they arrive in the cocktail hour with beverages and hors d'oeuvres displayed on vibrant trays even put across the shelves of a makeshift bookcase-turned-bar.  Or, possess a fleet of waiters standing in the entry, beverage holes in hand, prepared to greet guests at the door.  The message will be clear: It is time to par-tay.
Extra Signage

2017 Year in Review: Music Edition
by Alex B. Cruz
2017 has been nothing short of a mess but at least we were blessed with some great new music to push us through it. Below is a list of my favorite albums and some standout tracks for the year.
Melodrama by Lorde
youtube
Melodrama takes you on a ride that stays true to its title from start to end. Its melodies and long strides have a synchronizing effect that transports you into vivid dreams when listened to in full.
Notable tracks: “Green Light”, “Homemade Dynamite”, “The Louvre”, and “Supercut”
Ctrl by SZA
Tumblr media
SZA’s sound is sultry and that is made clear with the tracklist in Ctrl. The lyrics consistently flirt with boundaries while revealing an honest storyline that SZA delivers with pointed, raw vocals.
Notable tracks: “Love Galore”, “The Weekend”, “Prom”, and “Go Gina”
More Life by Drake
Tumblr media
Drake consistently produces highly relatable material inclusive of personal grievances fused with playful samples. He delivered this once again with the release of More Life although the project seemed a bit less cohesive than some of his previous work.
Notable tracks: “Passionfruit”, “Gyalchester”, “Portland”, and “Fake Love”
El Dorado by Shakira
Tumblr media
El Dorado is a continuation of Shakira’s success following her departure from latin pop/rock and transition into the pop/reggaeton genre. It’s a fun, catchy album with at least a handful of potential singles bound to do well commercially.
Notable tracks: “Me Enamoré”, “Chantaje”, “Perro Fiel”, and “La Bicicleta”
A Deeper Understanding by The War on Drugs
youtube
The latest release from The War on Drugs is a full-on psychedelic trip with touches Americana. It’s a refreshing outlook with clear rock influences that still manages to create an original sound.
Notable tracks: “Up All Night”, “Pain”, “Strangest Thing”, and “Thinking of a Place”
DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar
Tumblr media
The highly anticipated and critically successful DAMN. keeps elements of classic rap tones while centering its lyrics into timely conversations. It’s raw storytelling and Kendrick delivers his rhymes with a sharp ease.
Notable tracks: “Humble”, “DNA”, “Love”, and “Element”
Lust for Life by Lana del Rey
Tumblr media
Lust for Life is Lana’s most authentic revival of vintage sound. That is largely due to its elevated maturity and concise message that is most notable in her deeply melancholic ballads.
Notable tracks: “Love”, “13 Beaches”, “White Mustang”, and “Tomorrow Never Came”
Harry Styles by Harry Styles
Tumblr media
The debut solo album released by Harry Styles was a complete departure from his previous work and that’s a good thing. It’s a blend of soft rock and indie pop and while it may lack a bit in cohesiveness, it contains some truly great moments that are worth the listen.
Notable tracks: “Meet Me in the Hallway”, “Sign of the Times”, “Kiwi”, and “Ever Since New York”
Tell Me You Love Me by Demi Lovato
youtube
Demi’s strong vocal range truly shines in each track of TMYLM. The album showcases her strengths equally in climatic moments and stripped down harmonies that touch both pop and R&B angles.
Notable tracks: “Tell Me You Love Me”, “Sexy Dirty Love”, “You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore”, and “Cry Baby”
War & Leisure by Miguel
Tumblr media
Miguel stays true to R&B in War & Leisure while introducing new wave funk into his most upbeat tracks. Besides the obviously enjoyable “Sky Walker”, the album contains plenty of notable upbeat tracks with undeniable charm.
Notable tracks: “Criminal”, “Pineapple Skies”, “Banana Clip”, and “Caramelo Duro”
NO ONE EVER REALLY DIES by N.E.R.D.
Tumblr media
N.E.R.D.’s latest release is an enlivened celebration of hip hop with an impressive production. The album contains many notable features including Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and Andre 3000.
Notable tracks: “Lemon”, “1000″, “Lighting Fire Magic Prayer”, and “Kites”
Pop 2 by Charli XCX
Tumblr media
Although not a studio album, Pop 2 is an exciting preview of Charli XCX’s next release set for 2018. The full-length mixtape is a dance/pop synth trip on steroids with tracks that could singularly or collectively find their way into the nightclub scene.
Notable tracks: “Backseat”, “Femmebot”, “Delicious”, and “Unlock It”
Favorite Singles:
“Bodak Yellow” by Cardi B
The year’s obvious breakout artist is Cardi B who took over the Hot 100 chart with “Bodak Yellow”. She’s proving to be more than a one-hit wonder with the success of tracks like “Bartier Cardi” and collaborations like “Um Yea” and “MotorSport” that have only built on the anticipation of her debut studio album.
“1-800-237-8255” by Logic
The standout from this list is an anthem showcasing the importance of mental health and the need to create a space in society for an open conversation on suicide. The collaboration with Alessia Cara and Khaled delivers a beautiful message of hope and support for those battling depression.
“Sorry Not Sorry” by Demi Lovato
The lead single off Tell Me You Love Me is a quintessential peek into the engaging themes from the album. It shows off her powerhouse vocals and is a celebration of self love with lighthearted flair.
“It’s a Vibe” by 2 Chainz
The second single from Pretty Girls Like Trap Music brings a softer sound  into the mix of a largely fast-paced hip-hop album. Ty Dolla Sign, Trey Songz and Jhené Aiko make appearances on the track, providing a balanced dynamic of hip-hop, trap, and R&B that fits well into the playlist.
“Despacito” (Remix) by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber
An obvious choice for song of the year for its commercial success but at its core, Despacito is truly a masterfully engineered song. It did exactly what it was meant to do as a crossover hit using the Latin pop appeal of Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee’s leverage as a reggaeton icon, and Justin Bieber’s mainstay as an American pop artist.
