Here we see a paradise toad [Vandijkophrynus robinsoni], a species native to western South Africa and parts of Namibia. These toads are often found near permanent water sources, where they burrow into the nearby dry sediment to avoid the heat of the day. Images by Sebastian Wolf.

Family : Bufonidae Genus : Vandijkophrynus Species : Vandijkophrynus gariepensis Common Name : Karoo Toad Turning rocks in the Klein Karoo on Sanbona Wildlife Reserve rewarded us with this little gem. We were fortunate to find a very colourful specimen. They are quite abundent along seepages, under rocks, in renosterveld as well as succulent Karoo vegetation.
