Day 5 - A story you've read multiple times | Epic (looooong fics)

I mean, obviously!!!!!

What's sooooo great about this fic:

Great characterization. Each character is on point. From the playful young Sherlock, the rebellious young doctor Molly, down to adorable young Archie, even the young runaway bride Molly helped!

I love every pair in this fic. Yes, I can say that even for the rare pairing of Sally Donovan and Henry Knight. They are cute, I have to warn you.

It has every kind of spices: drama, cases, crimes, adventure, but also comedy!

It's lemony, but also sweet in the right amount. I would say this story makes a perfect lemonade on a hot summer day.

etc. etc. etc. (I can going on and on... so I need to stop).

This is the fic I'd read on a bad day, good day, sad day, tiring day, and every time I read this fic I would find myself going, "Ah, I really love them".

The Magical Molly

The show went well tonight, really well. 

Yes, I may have showed off a little more than I normally do, especially when I transformed the piano into a giant black cat but the audience loved it. Even the pianist, after he had calmed down.

I don’t normally enjoy drawing too much attention to myself, it’s safer just to play at being at an ordinary stage magician, like all the others. But why should talented women have to continue hiding in the shadows just because it unsettles the men folk? 

A little bit of harmless infamy might just do the movement some real good. Make the men in charge understand that we can be just as powerful as them, if given the opportunity.

I’ll just have to be careful not to unsettle them too much. I don’t wish to be burnt as a witch.

‘Those tricks are not real tricks, are they?’

I dropped the basket I was holding and whipped round. The accusatory voice echoed around the empty stage. It was a voice that demanded answers, being ever so slightly frustrated and impressed.

A gentleman stood before me. A true tall, dark and handsome type with intelligent eyes and a sharp questioning look.

‘I have attended almost every one of your shows,’ he went on. ‘Closely observed you and your routine and your props with the closest attention -’

I felt my face warm.

‘But not matter how much time I wasted in attempting to solve how you were doing it I could not figure it out. And after tonight’s demonstration with the piano...I finally accepted the simplest solution: you are a woman in possession of true magical ability. And trust me, it is not easy for me to make such an outlandish statement.’

‘Who are you?’

‘Sherlock Holmes, at your service.’

‘I do not require your service, sir. Or your insane accusations. Please leave.’

I hurried towards the wings, but he was following after me.

‘There are others who have noticed you. A dangerous man. Please listen!’

‘Joe! Joe, come here!’

I feel his hand close around my elbow, strong fingers pressing into my flesh.

‘Now that I have your - whoa!’

I didn’t intend to hurt him, of course. Or to risk Joe or the guys seeing. But I couldn’t help myself. It was self defense.

Sherlock Holmes had found himself floating off the boards, leaving his top hat discarded, up, up, towards the ceiling, before he was stuck to the faded comedy and tragedy masks.

He’d looked slightly panicked at first - I felt the same - but he quickly composed himself. Chuckled even. What a madman.

‘Ah, well, perhaps, you prefer to converse with a safe distance between us. I understand, of course. But, please trust me, Miss Hopper, you’re very life may depend upon it. I can hear footsteps approaching - perhaps the erstwhile Joe is fianlly about to make his entrance? Could I relocate to the ground now, or to a cafe to discuss the matter further?’

I lowered him carefully to the ground. He chuckled again, smoothed down his curly hair, and held out his hand.

‘I believe we can help one another,’ he said. ‘The man whom I shall tell you about, is the most dangerous man in the world. I can stop him, but I shall require your assistance, Miss Hooper, if you trust me.’

I pressed my hand into his. He had a strong grip. Someone help me, but I trusted him.

‘I am at your service, Mr Sherlock Holmes.’

You mentioned you would draw sensual art, and I was kind of hoping for a scene of them like, kissing while clothed (there's a scene where they make out against wall in the morgue) [...]

Behold, my second piece for @fandomtrumpshate for Anarfea’s TAB-themed fic! I haven’t heard back on if the final piece I sent them was okay, but if you see this, Anarfea, PLEASE know that you can still make changes to the piece, I just have to have both of my pieces posted before year-end as per the FTH rules :) I will update this post with the new piece if you have additional changes :) 

ANYWAY, so here’s my second and final piece for FTH [first is here!!], generously requested by Anarfea for their TAB-themed Trans!Hooper/Sherlock fic. The scene I doodled isn’t EXACTLY how I pictured it in my head when I read the chapter, but I do hope they inevitably are satisfied with the piece! Hooper was fun to draw, have never really tried before (which is odd because I liked Hooper). TAB-lock is a fun AU to draw in general I think, I just never do a good job on Sherlock, LOL. Anarfea seemed to like it, so I do hope I did the story some justice. I really REALLY like doing low-lighting pics, it’s a fun challenge for sure!!

If you’re open to other ships, please make sure to go give their fic a read; it’s not done yet, but I did enjoy the few chapters I did read to get this scene in my head :) And, as always, thank you SO much, Anarfea, for your generous bidding on my work for Fandom Trumps Hate! Fic Update!!!

What??? The notoriously writing-blocked MissMollyBloom has fic updates to share? 

Indeed I do.

I have just posted two new chapters to the fic A Most Unsuitable Pastime for a Lady.

If you’ve never read it (or forgotten it, as I first started working on it about 8 years ago...), this story is a Victorian Sherlolly with alternating timelines: one in which a young Sherlock Holmes meets a curious woman who dresses as a man to dissect corpses and investigate crime scenes (and, to flex for a second, this was started before we know about how Molly was to appear in TAB!!).

In the second timeline, John watches his friend act strangely during the investigation into what John assumes is a straightforward suicide of a man, Thomas Jones. However, his widow - Molly Jones - claims otherwise. And Sherlock seems to know more about this widow than he is letting on to John.

16. Did you learn anything while writing this fic, whether a niche industry you had to research, insight about your own writing/style or something else? So, there's a few things I can talk about with this one since it's been quite the journey so far:

Small little factoid: I discovered Emily's last name through a tumblr deep dive for scripts so I could put in an Easter egg (her surname is Merrimack.)

And this fic has really been more about re-learning how to write in my usual style again. I had been away so long, that I kinda lost my touch and struggled with it for so long. Because of that, I learned how to kinda pinpoint what exactly made up my style. It helped to reread my own fics, and fics/books of others that had influenced my style. While this one probably isn't my best written, it's pretty good for having not been in the game for awhile, so I'll take it as a win.

Through research, I came across this book called The Victorian Book of the Dead. I got it for funsies cause I'm obsessed with that era, as well as possessing morbid curiosity. And though I haven't found anything to incorporate into the fic from it yet, it's very interesting.

I learned a new Victorian phrase (below) that I'd like to try to work in just cause it's cute, but if not, it's no big deal

Lastly, I've just been having to relearn how to get a feel for Sherlolly again by developing them in this AU before attempting to write canon compliant again. Decidedly, starting off with an AU is probably more difficult, but then it'll make the latter easier, hopefully.
