What Happens In VegasâŠDoesnât Always Stay There Masterlist
Some days you just couldnât believe how lucky you were to be married to Jacob. Sure, things had got off on a rocky start, but now, here you were eight months into both your marriage and your pregnancy and your life was pure bliss. Though had someone asked your husband that, he may have not agreed with you at the moment.
âBabe, you need to put that washer on before you screw in that nut.â
âI know, prinsessa,â he huffed back, however, he still put the screw into the crib without the washer on it.
âJacob, the washer?â He blew out a frustrated breath, taking the bolt back out to put the washer on as you told him not even a minute ago. âIf youâd just let me help.â Heâd insisted that he was going to be the one to put your daughterâs crib together. At the rate he was going though, you shouldâve started a couple months ago.
âYouâre eight months pregnant, (Y/N). There is no way that Iâm letting you do manual labor. What if you hurt yourself or worse our little honeydew in there?â
âYou know weâre really going to have to come up with a name for her. We canât call her the name of fruits, the rest of her life. Besides what happens when she gets bigger than a watermelon?â
Jacob chuckled as he tightened the nut, then moved on to the next one. âWhat about Beatrice?â
âReminds me too much of that movie, Divergent. Her parents werenât great in that were they?â It was a rhetorical question, so you just kept going. âWhat about Olivia?â
âBoring. Everyone names their little girl Olivia anymore.â He had a point, there was a reason that the name had been on the popular girls' list for a number of years. âElsa is really popular in Sweden.â
âAnd have everyone sing âLet it Goâ every time they say her name.â
âFair point.â He went back to putting that crib together. âKnulla!â Jacob cursed dropping the f-bomb in his native tongue.â
 âWhat? Are you hurt?â
âNo, but I canât get that damn song out of my head.â You couldnât help but burst into a fit of laughter.
âSo, Anna is out then as well.â
âOh my god, no we are not naming her that either.â One side of the crib was completely put together and he leaned it up against the wall, moving onto the next. This time putting the washers on the screws before starting. âWe can just name her fruit salad, that way it covers all the names weâve called her.â
âAbsolutely not. Weâre not going to be one of those couples that name their child after obscure things, like Coco or Cardboard.â
A bark of laughter was your answer from Jacob. âWell, hopefully, once we see her, it will just come to us. You know sometimes when you look at someone the name just fits.â
âI hope so, or our child may end up being Fruit Salad Markstrom. It doesnât have a very nice ring to it.â
 âNo, no it doesnât.â
While Jacob continued to work on the crib, you got up and wandered into the office. Pulling out the folder you wanted, you headed back to your husband. âSpeaking of names.â He turned giving you his full attention. âI was wondering how youâd feel if I legally changed mine.â Inside the folder, there were numerous documents, driverâs license, passports, bills, all of which had to be changed. You just wanted Jacobâs ok before making it official. The moment you decided to stay married to Jacob, you werenât one hundred percent sure you wanted to ever change your name. Now, you saw no reason to keep your old one. You wanted the world to know that you were his and that he in turn was yours.
âIâd be thrilled if you changed it to Markstrom, but are you sure prinsessa?â He abandoned the crib and moved to set on the sofa with you. âI know you how much your independence means.â
He had taken your hands in his, and you felt him idly playing with your wedding rings. âIt was, or is, but youâve proven I can still have that while being your wife, and thatâs not going to change no matter what my last name is. But more importantly, I want us to be a family; you, me, and fruit salad. Iâm proud of who you are Jacob and proud of this family. I want to be an official part of it.â
âYouâve always been an official part of it. Thereâs no family without you, prinsessa. But nothing would make me happier than you officially being Mrs. Markstrom.â His lips found yours. The kiss sweet as you melted into him.
âWell, then I guess I need to get this started. At least it will give me something to do while you finish that crib over there.â
His lips started to trail down your neck and collarbone. âI think we need a little break. Donât you?â He took the folder and placed it back on the coffee table, then gently laid you down on the couch. It was several hours before Jacob finished the crib. He even went so far as to get inside and prove to you that if it was strong enough to hold him, it would surely hold your baby.
 ***
As the last couple of weeks of your pregnancy went by, you still hadnât come up with a name for your baby girl. What did make itself know was your daughter inside you. Your back ached and it felt like she was using your ribs for kickboxing practices at all hours of the day. You were so ready to have her out of you and in your arms instead of pressing on your bladder. The day she was due came and went though. According to the doctor she was in perfect position for you to deliver, yet she didnât seem to want to make her arrival.
Two days later, you were on the phone with Lena telling her how miserable you felt. âI just canât seem to get comfortable,â you whined.
âOh darling, I know exactly how you feel. Jacob was almost two weeks late. I tried every trick anyone would tell me to induce labor, but I swear only one thing worked.â
Fourteen days seemed like an eternity. You waited for Jacobâs mom to say more, but couldnât keep silent long. âOh please tell me. I already made Jacob take me for a ride on the roughest road he could find. All that did was make me have to pee.â
Lena giggled, but if she had only seen you begging Jacob to pull off of the road so that you could relieve yourself, she wouldâve laughed even harder. âOh, you poor thing. I remember it all too well.â Her laughter died down, and she spoke in a softer tone. âNow, I hope you donât mind me asking this but have you and JacobâŠâ she trailed off, leaving you guessing as to what she meant. âYou knowâŠare you stillâŠintimate?â
âOh!â The question made you pause for even though youâd grown very close to Lena; it wasnât like you were telling her of your sex life with her son. âWellâŠnot for the last week or so. Jacob was worried about meâŠâ It dawned on you then what she meant, as Jacob was afraid that youâd go into labor. Now, thatâs exactly what you wanted to happen.
âAh, so you see what Iâm getting at.â You most certainly did. âKeep in mind I had trouble convincing Anders that it was a good idea, but it most definitely worked.â
 âLena, youâre an angel.â
âIâm not sure Iâd call myself that.â You both chuckled. âNow, Iâm going to let you go and hope that the next phone call I get, is you telling me that my granddaughter is here.â
 âI sure hope so.â
âLove you, darling. Tell my son, I love him as well.â
âLove you too and same to Anders.â You hung up, right as Jacob walked into the house after his workout. Normally, he wouldâve headed back to Sweden by now, but with the baby being due, the two of you were staying in Vancouver. So, he was sticking to his normal routine.
âIâm back, prinsessa,â He announced as if you hadnât heard the garage door open. âHowâs my baby doing?â
âWell, if you mean your daughter, sheâs still not ready to make her grand appearance yet.â You sighed rubbing your belly. âIf you mean me, Iâm extremely pregnant and uncomfortable.â
Jacob dropped a kiss to your lips before sitting down beside you on the couch. âMy poor prinsessa, apparently youâve made it so nice in there our little watermelon doesnât want to leave.â
âWell, speaking of thatâŠâ Jacobâs eyes lifted up in query. âI was thinking maybe we could speed the process up a bit.â You let your fingers trail down his chest until they rested at his waistband. His raised eyebrows told you that he knew your intent, and you lifted yours in return along with a little smirk.
Jacob stilled your hand though. âPrinsessa, I donât think that we should. What if I hurt you or the baby?â
âYouâre not going to hurt either of us. I promise.â
âBut what if you go into labor?â
âThatâs the point, Jacob. I want to go into labor.â You could now see why Lena mentioned she had trouble convincing Anders. The look of concern on his face had you questioning whether or not you were going to be able to pull this off. Letâs face it, you knew that being nine months pregnant, wasnât any manâs ideal temptation, though you had to admit that Jacob hadnât seemed to mind your rounded belly. In fact, he always told you how sexy you looked, and up and until about two weeks ago, he couldnât seem to keep his hands off of you. Maybe if you used some of your feminine wiles, you could somehow tempt him, though at the moment you felt anything but sexy.
You were somehow able to finagle your wrist free that Jacob had captured, though his grip was never that tight. This time instead of going to his waistband, you went straight for what you wanted. His cock. To say that you were surprised to find him semi-erect, was an understatement. Apparently, your husband did still find you sexy. âPlease baby.â You stroked up the length of him, your touch causing him to get harder. âYou knowâŠonce I have our little blueberry, there wonât be any of this for a while. Like six whole weeks.â
Jacob groaned. Heâd done the research and knew that your body needed time to heal. He wasnât a cad, that couldnât wait the six weeks that you needed, though he knew that time would prove difficult, for he couldnât seem to keep his hands off of you. When your thumb brushed back and forth over the tip of his cock, he was done for. He growled in frustration with himself, for wanting you so bad, before capturing your mouth. The kiss was rougher than he intended at first and he had to remind himself to be gentler with you, even though you craved his manhandling. âYou win, prinsessa,â he finally managed to breathe out once he tore his lips from yours. âBut swear to me, that if you feel even the slightest hint of pain, youâll tell me.â
âI swear,â was your hurried answer before he could change his mind. Jacob got up off the couch, then grabbed your hands to help you up. âWe can just stay here.â
âIâm not fucking my very pregnant wife on the sofa. Weâre going upstairs.â
âYes, sir.â You stated in mock salute. Jacob shook his head, covering up his laughter as he led you up the stairs. It was definitely not the intimate little chase that the two of you had done so many times when youâd first moved in. Your body just didnât move as fast these last couple of weeks, as your back was always aching, just as it was now. Youâd just made it up the first few stairs when you felt this weird twinge. You told yourself it was nothing, but it stopped you for a moment and had Jacob looking back to make sure everything was ok. It passed quickly and so you went to take the next step. Thatâs when you felt it. It was sort of just an intense amount of pressure and then before you knew what was happening there was fluid leaking out of you uncontrollably. âJacob,â you exclaimed and he quickly turned again. âI think my water just broke.â His eyes went from your face to the floor then back to your face again.
âOh my god.â Jacobâs face went white, for even though you both knew this moment was coming, it was still a bit shocking now that it was finally here. âWhereâs your bag? We should call the doctor? Iâll go get the car.â
âSlow down,â you coaxed, brushing your hand against his cheek. âLetâs see how far apart the contractions are before we start rushing. Besides, I need to clean this and myself up.â
 âBut prinsessaâŠâ
âIâm fine, Jacob. Really. That was only my first contraction.â At least you thought it was your first. Your back had been hurting off and on all day, but youâd just chalked it up to carrying the baby. âLetâs just wait and see when the next one comes.â Heading back to the kitchen, you grabbed some paper towels to clean up the small mess on the floor. Jacob took them out of your hands before you could even attempt to stoop down.
âI still think we should call the doctor.â
âFine. If itâll make you feel better.â It couldnât hurt to keep her informed. âOuch.â
 âWas that another one?â
âYes,â you answered rubbing your overgrown belly.
âThat was less than five minutes, prinsessa.â He was already dialing the phone, as you headed upstairs to change. You werenât sure how fast your labor would progress but you wanted to be prepared should you need to leave for the hospital right away. By the time you got out of your soiled clothes, another contraction hit. It definitely came on quicker than the last and lasted longer than the other one as well. You changed clothes as quickly as possible.
Jacob came running up the stairs right as you were throwing on your shirt. âAre you having another one already?â You tried to mask the pain but nodded as the last twinges of it subsided. âThe doctor said we should head in, with your water breaking, and the look on your face tells me we shouldâve left a couple minutes ago.â Jacob ran into the closet and grabbed the bag of stuff you had packed as well as the diaper bag. âWhat are you doing, prinsessa? You should be downstairs by now.â
âI just need a hair tie.â
âBabe, you have at least six packed in this bag. Can you not use one of them?â
You were already in the bathroom digging for the one you wanted. âNot the same, this one is my favoâŠugh.â The rest of the word was lost as yet another contraction hit.
âThatâs it weâre leaving right now.â Jacob grabbed several hair ties and threw them in his pockets before taking your hand and leading you out of the bathroom and down the stairs. âWe are not having our daughter in this house.â He scolded, taking the stairs as quickly as possible.
You were in the car and out of the driveway before the next contraction hit. It freaked Jacob out, even more than before and you felt the car speed up. He had to be going well over the speed limit, but you were not going to complain as it felt like your labor was going at the same pace as the car. As you hit a red light, you saw Jacobâs knee starting to bounce as his anxiety raised waiting for it to turn green. You reached over and threaded your fingers through his. âWe got this, hun.â
He squeezed your fingers back, right as the light turned green. âI should be reassuring you.â You chuckled lightly as the car continued on.
It was exactly 11:24 when you entered the hospital. Jacob made his way to the registration desk, letting them know you were here. From there, things became a whirlwind. You were taken to a private room and hooked up to all kinds of monitors. Approximately thirty minutes later, they were telling you that you were in full active labor. Duh, you couldâve told them that, as your contractions seemed to be coming at a rapid-fire pace.
âArenât first-time births supposed to take longer?â You inquired of the nurse that was checking the fetal monitor.
âOn average, yes, but everyone is different. Trust me most women would kill to be progressing this fast.â
It wasnât lost on you that just a couple hours ago you were begging for your daughter to be out of you, but now that the time had come you had to admit you were having second thoughts. âI donât know if Iâm ready.â It was a thought that had been echoing in your head the moment you hit the doorway to the hospital.
âOh, youâre definitely ready.â The nurse commented even though you hadnât been talking to her. âIâll be back with the doctor in a few minutes. If you need anything just ring the bell.â
âWhat about the epidural?â She must have not heard you as she headed out the door. You turned to Jacob, who hadnât left your side. âI donât think I can do this Jacob.â
âSure you can, prinsessa.â His hand soothingly caressed your cheek, brushing back some stray hairs at the same time. âEverything will be fine.â
âBut what if I suck at this whole parenting thingâŠ.â Another contraction hit, and it felt like there was a vice grip on your uterus.
âJust breathe.â Jacob mimicked what youâd both learned in child birthing class and you found yourself breathing with him through the pain. Once, you finally had it under control, Jacob continued. âYouâre going to be the best mom ever prinsessa. Our little girl is going to be lucky to have you.â
You smiled weakly, hoping that he was right. âWell, at least sheâll have the most amazing dad.â Jacob leaned down and kissed your lips sweetly, right before the nurse came back in.
âOk, looks like youâve got another one coming (Y/N).â She informed you as she checked the monitor. Youâd barely caught your breath from the last one, but you prepared yourself for the next as the doctor came into the room with few other nurses.
âSo, they tell me this little girl is ready to make her appearance.â She advised as she got in position to deliver the baby. You nodded through gritted teeth as the contraction hit. You squeezed Jacob's hand, no doubt cutting off the circulation, but he never said a word. âDefinitely ten centimeters.â The doctor proclaimed, peeking her head back up. âAre we ready mom and dad?â
Jacob smiled at you and suddenly you felt a confidence that only moments ago you didnât possess. âSo, ready,â you answered.
âOk dad, if you want to get behind mom as we talked about.â Jacob slid in behind you as you scooted all the way to the edge of the bed. His arms hooking under you to support your body as you were in a squatting position. It was all quite different from the way movies portrayed giving birth, but the doctor had told you that gravity was your friend during this moment and you were all for what would make things go smoothly. Once you were both in position, the doctor took her place. âOk, here comes another one. I want you to push this time (Y/N). Can you do that for me?â
âYes,â you somehow managed to mumble out through the ball of nerves that was going through your body. You bared down when the contraction hit, letting Jacob support most of you.
âThatâs good.â The doctor told you.
âYouâre doing great, prinsessa.â Jacob encouraged you, dropping a kiss to your temple as you rested for a minute.
âOk, this time I need you to push for a count of ten, ok?â You grunted your response, then pushed again as the doctor counted you through the contraction. âGreat. I can see the head. Just relax a second and then this next one Iâm going to need you to really push, (Y/N). Just one big one and then your little girl is going to be in your arms.â You could feel Jacob smiling against you, as you relaxed against him. âOk, here we go.â
âPush, prinsessa. You can do this.â It seemed as though Jacob no sooner said the words than you felt an intense amount of pressure and a mild burning sensation, but then it was over. In that split second you knew youâd delivered your daughter and you held your breath waiting to hear her cries. While it was probably mere seconds, it felt like a lifetime before you heard her lungs cry out. It was honestly the best music youâd ever heard in your life.
The doctor wrapped her in the towel she used to basically catch your daughter in and then laid her up on your chest. âHereâs your baby girl. Weâll give you a minute with her, while we get ready to cut the cord. Dad, you still up for it.â
Jacob had been gazing down at his beautiful daughter and had a hard time answering her, but finally managed to mumble out a yes. âSheâs so beautiful, prinsessa.â She really was, even though she was still tinted a little blue. Your birthing classes had made you aware that this would happen, and that she would âpink upâ within a few minutes. âShe really is our little blueberry,â Jacob added, his hand caressing her little back while you held her to your skin.
âSheâs perfect.â Tears streamed down your face, happy but also somewhat sad, that youâd not wanted this sooner in life. The happiness you were experiencing at that moment was so much more than any job could ever give.
âOk, Dad your up.â The doctor informed Jacob, who reached around to cut the umbilical cord. His hands were shaking with both excitement and nerves. It took all of two seconds to do and then your daughter was officially her own little person, no longer needing that connection to you. It was both sad and thrilling at the same time, for you truly did enjoy being pregnant with her, well up until these last couple of days. âWeâre going to take her for a few minutes, get her cleaned up, and check her height and weight.â
âGo with her, please.â You told Jacob, not wanting to leave your daughter alone, even if it was only across the room. His long legs made it easy to scoot out from behind you and trail behind the nurse that had your baby girl.
âOk, (Y/N), letâs see if we can get the placenta out while they're taking care of your cute little blueberry over there.â It took about fifteen minutes to push the afterbirth out. Which was too long in your opinion as you wanted to see your daughter again. As soon it is was over, you glanced over to where Jacob was holding your little girl. She looked so tiny in his large frame, but what you couldnât get past was the look of awe and utter elation on Jacobâs face. It had been a long road to get to this moment, but all you needed to do was look at your husband and your daughter and know that it had been worth it.
âWeâve got a healthy little girl, prinsessa. They said she weighs six pounds and two ounces.â
âThough I think she may end up being tall like her dad here.â The doctor chimed in. âShe just a little over twenty-two inches long.â You couldnât see her legs as she was cuddled up in a blanket on Jacobâs chest. âSince you both seem to be doing well, weâll let you three get in some bonding time. Feel free to ring for the nurse if you need anything.â
You scooted over on the bed, as the last of your nurse left closing the door behind him. Jacob gently sat down on the spot youâd made then handed over your newborn daughter. âSheâs so perfect, (Y/N).â
You nuzzled your cheek next to hers and you had to admit that Jacob was right. She was absolutely the most perfect thing on this planet. âI canât believe we did this,â you whispered gazing down at your little girl.
âYou did this, prinsessa.â Jacobâs arm slipped easily around you to hold you both.
âIâm pretty sure I couldnât have done any of it without you.â Your lips found his easily, the kiss sweet and tender, matching the moment. âI love you.â
âI love you too and our little blueberry.â His large hand cradled her head as his thumb gently caressed her cheek. âSpeaking of which, we need to give her a name.â
âTrue, we canât call her our little blueberry forever.â
âActually, I was thinking we could.â You turned your nose up at him, not wanting your daughterâs name to be Blueberry Markstrom. âHear me out. I was looking at names the other day and found one, Morelia.â You turned the name over a few times in your head, seeing if you liked it or not. âIt means little blueberry in Polish.â
âMorelia,â you said out loud this time, testing it on your tongue. âMorelia Markstrom, I like it, but I have one small adjustment.â Jacob looked down at you in question. âI want her middle name to be Andrea after both you and your dad.â
 â(Y/N)âŠâ Â
Tears started to well in Jacobâs eyes and you knew that yours had them as well. âBack when we didnât know what we were having, and I thought she,â you looked down at the sleeping little girl laying on your chest. âI thought she might be a boy and I wanted to name him Anders after seeing you with your dad. Anders doesnât quite sound right for a girl, but what do you think of Morelia Andrea Markstrom.â
âMorelia Andrea,â Jacob breathed out, a note of awe in his voice. âItâs kind of a mouthful, but I love it.â
You laughed at your husband for he was right. âSheâs going to hate us.â
âProbably at some point.â Jacob chuckled. âBut then donât all kids hate their parents.â
âWell, Morelia Andrea Markstrom, welcome to the family.â You kissed the top of your baby girlâs head. âNow, take off your shirt,â you ordered Jacob.
âExcuse me, you just had a baby. I know you were all about sex a few hours ago, but itâs off the table for a while.â
You rolled your eyes at your husband. âNot for that. So that you and Morelia can have some skin-to-skin contact. The first few hours are crucial.â
âWhich is why you have her,â Jacob insisted.
âI had her for the last nine months. I think you can have the first hour. Besides, Iâm right here.â Jacob took his shirt off then while you unwrapped Morelia from her blanket. She whimpered when you passed her to her father, but then snuggled down on his bare chest. You took the blanket and covered her back up so that she wouldnât catch a chill.
âI know Iâve said it before, prinsessa but sheâs perfect.â The arm that wasnât cradling his little girl wrapped around you and he curled you next to both himself and the baby. âThank you, (Y/N).â You wanted to question him further but he went on. âI know youâre going to tell me it took both of us, but thank you for bringing our little girl into the world.â He kissed her little head. âBut most of all, thank you for being my wife and the love of my life.â The tears were flowing freely now and you turned your head so that your lips could connect with Jacobâs. The kiss was passionate and sweet at the same time, bespeaking the love you both shared.
âI love you,â you whispered, too choked up for words.
 ****
It was four weeks later that you were on a plane headed to Sweden. You were nervous that Morelia wouldnât do well on the flight, but she seemed to have the same easy-going temperament as her father. She was the happiest and most content baby. She also happened to be spoiled rotten by both her father and her mother, and once she got to Sweden by her grandparents as well. It was rare that she wasnât being held, even when she was sleeping. You only hoped that once you returned to Canada, and her father was back training, that she would still be just as easy to care for as she was now.
Summer in Sweden was simply amazing. There were long hikes with Morelia strapped to you or Jacob, which she simply loved. Days where he would drag you both to the golf course with him, solely because he didnât want to be away from either of you longer than necessary. Time was also spent out on the water, Jacob teaching you how to fish. Which honestly was futile for you enjoyed having your husbandâs arms wrapped around you more than you did waiting for a fish to bite. However, the best time had to be those spent with his family. Jacobâs place wasnât far from his parents and you spent as much time as possible with them. Soaking up every family moment that you could, as Anderâs health seemed to be failing.
As your trip neared its end, Jacob finally broached a subject that had been weighing on his mind for months. âPrinsessa, can we talk?â
You had just put the baby down for the night and were joining Jacob around the fire that he had going in the backyard. âOf course.â
He had a serious look on his face, which concerned you somewhat, but that thought vanished as he pulled you down on his lap and kissed your lips. âDo you remember back a few months ago when I asked you to marry me again?â How could you forget? The memory was etched in your brain and not because the two of you had fought before the moment, but because he had given you a choice then. A choice you didnât think you had, once you found out that you were married and then pregnant with his child.
âYes, I donât think Iâll ever forget. It was some of the sweetest things youâve ever said to me.â
There was a glow on his cheeks and you couldnât tell if it was from the firelight or a blush. âOh, well, every word I said was true.â You knew this but you werenât exactly sure why he was bringing this up now. âEspecially the part where I want to marry you again.â
 âI want that too.â
The two of you were grinning like fools at each other. âGood,â Jacob finally breathed out. âI was thinking we could do it when we go back.â That was literally only a few weeks away. âOn our one-year anniversary. I want to do it with all our family and friends around; with you in a beautiful white dress and our daughter up there with us.â
âJacob, thatâs literally just a couple weeks away. How are we supposed to pull something like that off?â
âIt doesnât have to be fancy, prinsessa. Iâm just afraidâŠâ He trailed off and you knew what he feared without him voicing his concerns. That his father wouldnât be there.
You stopped him before he could say more. Hands on his face, looking directly into his eyes, you told me, âOf course, Iâll marry you then. Weâll figure it out. Are you sure you just donât want to do it here? We could have a simple ceremony right here in the backyard.â
âIâve thought about that, but what about your family. I know we have time, not as much as Iâd like but we can do this.â You nodded your agreement, then kissed his lips once again.
âOf course, we can. I can pull my resources together and we do something in our backyard at home or there has to be a venue in Vancouver we can rent out. It doesnât have to be elaborate.â
âI was thinking about that as well.â It seemed as though heâd been doing a lot of thinking without you on the subject. âI want to go back to Vegas.â This took you a bit by surprise. It was honestly the last place you wouldâve thought of. âHear me out. We can do something at one of the fancier hotels, and you can wear a beautiful long white dress and I know youâre going to tell me that I can do that anywhere, but Vegas is where I first fell in love with you. It brought us together. Itâs where Morelia was conceived. I just think it would be this full circle thing, only this time weâll both be sober, and weâll have more than just a couple of pictures to remember it by.â
The excitement on his face told you that you had no other choice but to agree, though the picture he painted did seem perfect. âAlright! Letâs get remarried in Vegas.â
âThis is going to be perfect, prinsessa.â
The week and a half you had left in Sweden was chaotic, to say the least, as you tried to book a venue and invite all your friends and family to your Vegas wedding. Thankfully, Lena and Anders helped with Morelia. They were soaking up every second they could with their granddaughter, making your life much easier. Finding a dress, however, was proving to be a challenge. You were still working on shedding the last few pounds of baby weight that youâd tacked on, and were unsure of what your dress size was. Plus, letâs face buying a wedding dress wasnât really meant to be done online. You knew that it would need to be altered when you got, so you made sure you had a seamstress ready to go once you were back in Vancouver, and after scouring thousands of websites you finally found the perfect one. It had a detachable skirt which would allow you more freedom as the night of festivities went on. By the time you were back in Vancouver you pretty much had things under control. It surprised you how much time and effort Jacob had put into helping, wanting to make it perfect, not only for your friends and family but for the two of you as well.
As the big day drew near, you flew out to Las Vegas to have a little fun but also make sure plans were running smoothly. It seemed everyone had that idea, as many of your friends and family came a few days early as well. It was all so reminiscent of a year ago, only this time you had your daughter in tow and there was a lot less drinking going on, at least by you and Jacob. Everyone else on the other hand, well, they were enjoying themselves immensely.
The night before the ceremony everyone insisted that you and Jacob spend the night apart, though, for the life of you, you couldnât see why. Youâd been married for a year and if the trials of that year hadnât broken you apart, you figured some lousy tradition wouldnât as well. However, you both relented to your familyâs wishes and stayed in separate suites; Morelia staying with Jacobâs parents for the next couple of nights.
You were just getting into bed when you heard a knock at the door, so you padded across the floor and peered through the peephole, only to see what look like several dozen white roses staring back at you. To your shock, those same flowers were attached to your husband. âWhat are you doing here?â
âBringing you these,â he declared stepping inside and handing over the delicate blooms. He planted a kiss on your lips that made your head spin.
 âTheyâre beautiful but totally unnecessary.â
âI beg to differ, as Iâm using them as an excuse to sneak into your room for the night.â All you could do was laugh at him as he placed the do not disturb sign on the door handle then firmly shut the door.
You set the flowers down on the table, as Jacob followed you inside the room. It was the one that youâd been sharing for the last several nights. He thought it would be easier for him to just move his one suitcase, instead of the three that you ended up packing. âYou know youâre not supposed to see the bride before the wedding. Itâs bad luck and all. Besides Iâm pretty sure our families would throw a fit if they knew you were here.â
âPft. Seeing as weâre already married, Iâm going to take my chances.â His hands were on the silk of the nightgown youâd chosen to wear to bed, sliding up and down your hips. âIs this new?â You nodded. âMmm, hope you weren't planning on saving it until tomorrow?â
âNo, I have something else for our âwedding night.ââ
His brows knitted in question. âThen who was this for?â
âYou. I knew youâd be in my room tonight.â Jacob gave a bark of laughter as your hands slid up and around his neck. âOr Iâd be in yours.â You went up on your toes to kiss him. It was heated and filled with passion, just like it was every time your lips touched his.
âSo how long was I going to have to wait until you headed to my room?â Jacob asked as he maneuvered you both towards the bed.
âNot long, though I knew youâd give in first.â
âOh? So sure of yourself, wife.â His hands were skating over your ass now, raising the nightdress with each caress.
 âYouâre here arenât you?â
âTrue and I donât plan on leaving until the morning.â
You bunched the fabric of his shirt up until Jacob released you to rip it off. âHopefully, before our parents know.â
âMmm,â he hummed as his lips ghosted down your neck. He slid the thin straps easily off of both shoulders. âThis is gorgeous, but I think I like whatâs underneath better.â The gown fell effortlessly to the floor and you stood there naked in front of your husband. âMmm, yes this is so much better.â He kicked the garment away, then turned his full attention to you.
âYou know that cost a lot of money.â
He simply shrugged. âIâll buy you hundreds more, though Iâd prefer if you just went like this all day long.â
âOh, Iâm sure that will go over well the next charity event.â
âYou talk too much, prinsessa.â Just when you went to chided him, he continued. âDonât get me wrong I love that, but just not right now.â
You slid your hands up his long torso. âThen maybe you should make meâŠâ anything else you wouldâve said was lost as his lips pressed hard and demanding against yours. He eased you down onto the mattress, never breaking the kiss, which was making you dizzy with want.  His body loomed on top of yours, a delicious feeling that you would crave until the end of time. Jacobâs hands wandered all over you. His long fingers tweaking your breasts and nipples before stealing down to find you dripping with need.
Jacob felt as if you were made for him and he would never get over the awe that struck him each time he touched your body. You were his prinsessa, more like a goddess that was made specifically for him and he worshipped every part of you. He slid his fingers between your folds, to find your wet and it took his breath away. He toyed with you for a few minutes, savoring the feel of your body squirming under his ministrations.
âJacob,â you panted out with desire. He knew what you wanted and he craved it as well. He wanted to see your shatter, to see your fall apart within his arms. Knew you were close by the way your body trembled and the way your hips bucked into his hand. You were so close. With just the press of his thumb against your clit, you were there, a loud moaning falling from your lips as your mouth tore away from his. He watched that blissful state wash over you. Treasured the look in your eyes and the smile that graced your face as you came down from the high that he had brought you. He would never tire of it, not today, not tomorrow, and not in a million years.
You didnât even register the fact that Jacob had discarded the rest of his clothing until you felt him widening your legs to accommodate him. Once you did, you moved into a position that you knew would bring you both pleasure. His piercing blue eyes never left yours, as he took himself in hand and started to enter you. You may have not remembered much from that first time together, but you knew that feeling of him inside was one youâd never tire of. Only when he was buried deep inside your body, did his lips come back down on yours. From there the two of you moved together, setting a pace that would bring you both pleasure. It wasnât hurried, for there was no rush. You knew that the two of you would be together forever, and it had nothing to do with the vows that would be exchanged tomorrow or those said a year ago. You werenât sure how long you made love like that. It couldâve been hours or it couldâve been minutes. All you knew was that when you both finally did cum, it was like your souls were being joined together. Almost as if it were more sacred than the words you would speak tomorrow.
Jacob snuck out of your suite in the early morning as the sun just began to rise. Most of the day was spent getting ready for the ceremony that would take place later on in the day in gardens at the Bellagio. Hair and makeup people came to your suite to get you ready, but you insisted that you be the one to get Morelia in her little dress. She looked like a little princess and you had a feeling youâd be relinquishing that title of prinsessa to your daughter, which was perfectly fine. There were so many pictures snapped of the two of you getting ready, that you felt bad Jacob wasnât in any of them. Lena must have read your mind. âWould you like me to take her to Jacob for a few?â
âWould you? I can't bear it that heâs not seeing her right now.â
She took the little bundle from your arms, then kissed you on the cheek. âYou look beautiful, my dear. Iâll see you downstairs. Now letâs go see daddy.â She said to Morelia as the two of them left. It only took you a few minutes to slip into your dress, but then there were more pictures taken. Your first wedding all you had were barely five photos to really remember the occasion, today there would be well over five hundred it seemed.
As the last one was snapped before the photographer headed down to the gardens, butterflies started to flutter in your stomach. Which was really silly considering that you were already married. But you werenât really nervous about marrying Jacob, youâd do that a hundred times over. It was simply that last time it had been a folly really. A joke between two drunk people that turned out to be the greatest thing of your life. Today youâd make that commitment again, solidifying your relationship in front of all of those you loved. It was something you never thought you wanted to do or get to do, yet here you were.
âItâs time, (Y/N),â Kennedy said handing over your bridal bouquet. âI canât believe weâre both married women.â
âMe either, Kenny.â You swiped at an errant tear that threatened to ruin your makeup. When Kennedy started to head to the door you stopped her. âKenny,â she turned back to look at you. âIâm sorry for being the biggest jerk about you getting married a year ago. I canât take it back nor would I want to because then we wouldnât be here today. I just want you to know that if I wouldâve known then what I know now, I wouldâve supported you and Ryan in any way that I could. So while Iâm so sorry for being an ass, one year ago. Iâm so very glad that things ended up the way they did.â
It was Kennedyâs turn to wipe the tears from her eyes. âI am too, (Y/N). I wouldnât change a damn thing.â She enveloped you in the biggest hug, both of you shedding a few more tears. âI love you, but letâs get you remarried.â
 âI love you too.â
There were a few stares from hotels guests as you made your way down to the gardens. You even heard one little girl ask her mother if you were a real princess. You certainly felt like one and in Jacobâs eyes, you always would be. You took his breath away as you made your way down the staircase, then finally through the garden path that led you directly to him.
âYou look breathtakingly beautiful, Mrs. Markstrom.â He whispered as he grabbed your free hand and brought it to his lips.
âYou look quite dashing yourself, Mr. Markstrom.â You couldnât stop gazing into his eyes, it was like only the two of you existed at that moment in time. That was until you heard the gurgle of your daughter. You looked over at her to see her smile as her Farfar held her just a short distance away. Both you and Jacob smiled as Anders turned Morelia so that she could see you both. âI feel like Iâm dreaming,â you admitted to him as the moment just seemed magical.
âDefinitely a dream come true, prinsessa.â
The officiant coughed discreetly, then whispered, âIf you two are ready?â
You both turned back to him then. âSorry,â you said in unison.
âNot a problem.â He told you with a smile plastered on his face. âWelcome everyone,â he started. âThere is nothing more romantic than to stand in front of your family and friends and declare the love you have for each other, and today we get the privilege of witnessing (Y/N) and Jacob do just that.â The officiant went on, most of it was a blur until it was time for you to say your vows. They were something that you were never going to forget.
âJacob,â you started as he now took both your hands in his and gave them a little squeeze. âItâs hard to believe itâs only been a year since I first met you and repeated some mundane words that would make us man and wife. Today is so much more than that. Today I pledge my love for the man that I met that day. The same man that has stood by my side this entire year, through all the good times,â as you said the words you both looked over at your daughter. âAnd through the bad, and promise to remain by your side through all the rest, until the end of time. I didnât believe in love or marriage before I met you, but now I canât see how I could spend another day without you in it. You are my life, my love, and my soul. I promise not only to love you but cherish each and every moment that we have on this earth together.â
Jacob teared up a bit during your words, just as you had to push past yours to say them, though you had a feeling you wouldnât be able to keep them at bay when Jacob spoke his vows to you. He cleared his throat, then began. â(Y/N),â again there was that squeeze to your hands. âWho wouldâve thought that a year ago a few drinks by the pool would lead to one of the best decisions of my life? I canât say what was going through my head at that moment, but I do know marrying you that day was the greatest day of my life.â He looked over at Morelia and you followed his gaze. âWell until a few months ago. Youâve given me things that I didnât even know I wanted; a baby, a family of my own, and most of all love. Youâve made me happier this past year than Iâve ever been my whole life. I mean that prinsessa. Iâm the luckiest man in the world because you are by my side and I promise to never take that for granted. Today, I promise to love you more than I have these past three hundred and sixty-five days, for you are my future, my life, and my love, and I want nothing more than to show you this for the rest of our lives. I love you, prinsessa.â
You gazed at your husband through glistening tears as they streamed down your face. Never in your life had you felt so treasured by one human being than right now. The only logical thing to do was to go up on your toes and kiss him. It wasnât long, but you tried to pour all the love you had for him into it. âYou two are a little early on that,â the officiant teased while the crowd of onlookers just chuckled.
âSorry,â you both muttered once you separated.
âNow that you have both declared your intent, letâs make this official.â He continued on with the ceremony. â(Y/N) will you continue to have Jacob as your husband and continue to live in marriage? Do you reaffirm your love for him, cherish and honor him, care for him in both sickness and health, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, and forsaking all others' promise to be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?â
It was honestly the easiest answer of your life. âI do.â
âJacob, will you continue to have (Y/N) as your wife and continue to live in marriage? Do you reaffirm your love for her, cherish and honor her, care for her in both sickness and health, for richer or poorer, for better or worse, and forsaking all others' promise to be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?â
âI do,â Jacob said loud and clear with a huge grin on his face.
âThen by the power vested in me by the great state of Nevada, I pronounce you both once again husband and wife.â The two of you waited with bated breath for him to say that you could finally kiss, even though you already had. âWell go ahead and kiss your wife again,â the officiant chuckled. Jacobâs lips locked with yours as cheers from your family and friends erupted. The loud noise startled Morelia, who started to cry. Anders quickly handed her off to you, and both you and Jacob lulled your daughter back to sleep. From there it was tons more pictures and a night of celebration.
This wedding was everything your first wasnât. You got to have your first dance, and cut the cake, as well as feed it to each other. In the end, you knew that for as long as you lived, you would never forget your second wedding day.
It was seven weeks later that you got another reminder as to why you wouldnât forget it. âIâm late,â you told Jacob as soon as he walked through the door from a short road trip.
âDid I forget you had an appointment? Traffic was a bit bad, but I didnât think I was too late getting back here from the airport.â
âNot that kind of late. Iâm late, late.â Jacobâs eyes widened as realization dawned on him. Your periods had been off a bit but that was normal after having a baby, and while you planned on having an IUD put in after Morelia, youâd completely forgot about it once you got back from Sweden. It wasnât that big of a deal as Jacob had been using condoms most every time, except that once.
âHowâŠor when?â he asked still a bit stunned by the news.
âIâm pretty sure it was the night before our wedding or the night of? I just realized it when I went to make an appointment to have the IUD put in.â
 âHave you taken a test?â
âNo, I thought Iâd wait for you.â You werenât sure how he was going to react as another baby wasnât quite in the plans that you two had worked out. Youâd both agreed that you wanted to enjoy Morelia and take in all her firsts before having another. Once she was two, youâd planned to give it another go, but apparently, someone higher up had other plans for you. âI have an appointment in an hour at the doctorâs office. Figured there was no point in peeing on a stick as I need to go there one way or another. If itâs negative, theyâll put the IUD in, and well if notâŠâ
âAnd what if itâs not, prinsessa?â
You shrugged. Youâd already made the decision that you werenât going back to work. It had been a long talk with Jacob as he knew you had dreams for your career, but your dreams had changed. You no longer saw yourself wining and dining big names clients all to get them to fall in love with an ad campaign. The only thing you wanted to love was your husband and your baby, well children maybe. âTwo under two is going to be a challenge,â you finally told him. âBut I think weâre up for it. That is I am if you are?â
âOf course,â he said sweeping you up in his embrace. âI want to have dozens of babies with you.â You gave him that look. âOk, not dozensâŠmaybe half?â All you could do was shake your head at this man. You loved him so much how could you not want to give him more children.
âWell, we should probably get ready to head to the doctorâs office.â
Forty-five minutes later you were sitting on the exam table waiting for the results of your blood and urine tests, as Jacob held your five-month-old. When the door opened, he jumped up to be at your side. âMr. and Mrs. Markstrom we have your results.â The doctor announced. âLooks like youâll be welcoming another little bundle in nine months.â Jacob smiled and you did as well before kissing him. âI was thinking we could do a quick ultrasound to get a date for your new arrival.â
By your calculations, the new baby would be arriving close if not on Moreliaâs birthday. âIt should be close to June nineteenth,â you told the doctor.
âSo, you two were planning this?â she asked.
âNo,â you both said in unison causing her to laugh.
âI think thereâs something in the water in Las Vegas,â Jacob joked, but in all seriousness, there seemed to be something about that place for you two.
The doctor started the internal sonogram, something you didnât have to prepare Jacob for this time, as he was used to your appointments after Morelia. It took her a few moments and then you saw a little blob on the screen. âThere we go, right thereâs your little one.â
âWe have another blueberry again,â Jacob announced before leaning down to kiss you, Morelia trying to grab at your necklace at the same time. âEasy little one. See that,â he told her. âThatâs your little brother or sister in there.â
âOh,â the doctor exclaimed and both of you turned to her. Youâd only known for a solid three minutes that you having a baby and already you loved him or her just as much as Morelia. If something was wrong you didnât know what you were going to do. âHold on one second.â Jacob grabbed your hand instinctively with his free one. Both of you silently saying a prayer as you waited for the doctor. âYes, yes it is.â The doctor explained more to herself than to either of you. âIt looks like this one here, " she said looking at Morelia. "Is getting a two for deal.â Not quite understanding her meaning you gave her a curious look. âOh sorry, I shouldâve said that better, but youâre having twins.â
âOh my god!â Jacob exclaimed, eyes round as silver dollars. It was the same look that you had. He looked down at you, almost expecting you to run. âWe can do this.â He reassured you but you didn't need him to, for you already knew that together you could tackle anything.
âOh I know,â you told him, for you were truly happy about both the babies. You couldn't wait to be Marskstrom party of five. âBut we are never going to Vegas again.â You both erupted into laughter before finally letting your lips connect once again. It seemed as though some things were never meant to stay in Vegas and that was just fine with you.Â

What Happens In Vegas...Doesnât Always Stay There - Jacob Markstrom - Part 8
Word Count: 7,252
POV: Reader
Warning: Language, Angst, Pregnancy stuff
Notes:Â Well I somehow managed to get this done, with all the craziness I have going on. Not really sure how I did it. I wonât be writing for the next week or so, so the final chapter wonât be out for a couple weeks. Unless I get some free time, but I donât anticipate that happening. Anywho, when last we left this story, Jacob was getting ready to sign his divorce papers and the papers that will relinquish his rights to his daughter. Will he sign them or not? Time to find out. As always feedback is welcome. Happy Reading!
What Happens In VegasâŠDoesnât Always Stay There Masterlist
Once you got to the hotel, you did exactly as Kennedy had said. You took a long hot shower, then wrapped the white fluffy bathrobe, the hotel had provided around you and crawled into the king-size bed. Exhaustion set in after a night of being awake worrying about where Jacob was. So as soon as your head hit the pillows you were out.
It was a restless sleep. Something that tended to happen lately when Jacob wasnât in bed with you. Though today it was two-fold, his absence being one and your dreams being the other. They were haunting. There was one where your baby was crying and you were wandering down a long hall until you reached the nursery. Once you finally got there your child was standing in the crib, you went to reach for them, only to hear them sob the word âDadaâ over and over again. You woke that time, a hand cradling your bump and tears in your eyes. Thankfully, after a few tosses and turns in bed, you were able to fall back asleep. This time your child was older, a young boy between the ages of five and seven, wearing hockey gear; his face a mirror image of a young Jacob. He skated up to the bench where you stood alone. âMomma, how come I donât have a dad like all the other kids?â You looked out on the ice, there stood about ten other children, all with their fathers who for some reason all looked like Jacob. Your son gazed up at you waiting for you to answer, but you had no words.
At least that dream didnât wake you, you had simply rolled over and slept on. The last one though, you could see vividly even when you woke. There you stood, helping your eighteen-year-old son tie his tie. You brushed the unseen specs off his shoulders fussing over him just a few minutes more before you were transformed into an arena. Then out of nowhere, you heard the NHL commissioner say, âAnd with the first overall selection in the NHL draft the Vancouver Canucks chooseâŠâ you waited with bated breath until you heard the words âJacob Markstromâs son.â Your teenage boy looked at you with wide eyes full of hurt. âWhy didnât you tell me he was my father?â You shuddered at the hatred now visible on your sonâs face. âHe didnât want you,â was your answer back. âThatâs not true,â your son muttered back. âHe always wanted me, but you kept me from him.â It was then out of nowhere that Jacob appeared, hugging his child as he said, âIâve always wanted you. I always wanted our family. It was your mother that didnât. She kept me from you.â Your face was full of shock at Jacobâs accusations. âItâs not true,â you said reaching out to touch your son, but he kept moving further and further away with his father. âHe didnât believe you were his.â Jacob looked directly at you. âYou know thatâs not true (Y/N). I was hurt. Youâre the one that forced me.â Jacob turned your son away from you and the two of them faded away. âDonât go,â you yelled. âPlease donât go. I never wanted you to sign the papers.â You woke to the sound of Jacob saying, âitâs too late.â
âIt canât be too late,â you said to the empty room as you sat up in bed. Your breathing was harsh as if youâd been running instead of sleeping. The dreams had taken a toll on you, and you could feel your heart beating fast as you tried to make sense of what was real and what wasnât. Everyone always said that your dreams were your subconscious, and if that were true yours were obviously trying to tell you that you didnât want your unborn son to grow up without his father. Somewhere, deep down, you knew that Jacob didnât mean the words heâd spoken when he asked if the baby was his, though it still hurt that he thought you were capable of such malice. But forcing Jacob from his childâs life wasnât right either, and you knew that. The problem was, you couldnât see how to let Jacob in the babyâs life without wanting him in yours. For despite his misgivings, you still loved him.
You stared up at the ceiling, trying to come up with a solution to your problem when the baby decided it was time to eat. So, instead of coming up with answers, you were ordering room service. You knew that you couldnât hide out in the hotel forever. Eventually, you were going to have to head home and at least get some clean clothes. You looked at your phone and noticed that Jacob had tried to call you several times. There was a missed call from Kennedy as well. You ignored them all and looked at your calendar. Jacob would be coming home from practice shortly, which meant youâd missed any opportunity to head back to the house and sneak a few things out. If you went now, you would have to face him and thatâs something that you werenât prepared to do just yet. Youâd simply have to wait until tomorrow when he was at morning skate, hopefully, then youâd have a little more clarity than you did now.
 ***
Jacobâs hand hovered over the papers, shaking as he went to sign his name to the document that would forever remove him from his daughterâs life. Flashes of what his life could be like with not only her but you in it clouded his mind. He knew this is what you wanted, but still, he was having a hard time coming to grips with it. The pen finally hit the paper, the blue ink starting to form the letter J. As soon as he saw the letter, he instantly wanted to throw up. He closed his eyes in an effort, to stave off the nausea threatening to roll out and continue on with the task. His mind went blank and he couldnât even remember the next letter of his own damn name, or maybe he didnât want to remember it. Eyes shooting up, it was as if a moment of clarity struck him. He threw the pen against the wall, flinging the offensive tool as far away from him as possible.
He didnât want this. Didnât want it at all.
Jacob never gave up on anything he wanted in his life, and he was not about to start now. If he had this kind of thinking in the past he wouldâve never made it to the NHL and never turning pro wouldâve meant never meeting you, and you and his daughter were the best things to happen to him. He wasnât about to throw it all away.
He stood up, grabbed the laptop off his desk, and threw it against the wall. It felt good to throw something, and so he did it again; the cute little plant (Y/N) had bought for his desk shattering into pieces. When that was done, he took books and threw them as well. He was looking for something else when his eyes rested back on the documents. They stared back at him, almost mockingly. He seized them off the table as if they were a living breathing object that he was ready to strangle the life out of. His hands easily tore them in two, and then into four and then into the tiniest little pieces so that they could never be put back together again.
Why they had kept the damn things, he didnât know. Once (Y/N) had found the unsigned divorce papers and they decided to remain married, they shouldâve torn the damn things up then. Instead, both he and (Y/N) had let them live, as if they needed a way out of this. Well not anymore. Marriage wasnât easy, his parents had told him that several times. He now knew that it was worth fighting for when you loved someone, and oh how he loved you, and his unborn daughter. He wasnât going to let either of you go, no matter how hard he had to fight to win you back.
An alert on his phone brought Jacob out of his musing. Someone was at the side door, and he took off not even checking to see who it was, in hopes that it was (Y/N) returning. âWow, I figured youâd look like shit after last night but you actually look worse than that.â To Jacobâs great disappointment, it was Bo at the door instead of his wife, though he was probably spot-on in his comment about Jacobâs appearance. He felt worse then when you step into a pile of dog shit; in fact, he felt like the aforementioned stepped-in dog shit.
âI thought you were (Y/N).â Jacob moved aside to let his friend in.
âGuess she was pissed when you didnât come home last night. You shouldâve just come straight home and talked about those pictures.â
âYeah, well thatâs not entirely why sheâs pissed.â Bo eyed Jacob curiously, waiting for an explanation. âYou were right that she was upset about staying out, but only because I never called or text her and she stayed up all night worrying.â
âI explicitly told you to text her or I was taking you home.â
âI know but I didnât hit send or something. Iâm not sure.â Jacob drew his hand down his face, disgusted with himself and his behavior. âBut that wasnât the worst of it. We argued and wellâŠI said something I shouldnât have.â
âLook Iâm sure itâs not as bad as you think, and as soon as (Y/N) calms down sheâll be back.â
Jacob prayed to God you would be back, but he had a feeling it was falling on deaf ears. âNo, I donât think she will.â
âFuck man, what did you say?â
The two men had wandered into the living room and Jacob sat heavily on the couch. His head immediately dropping to his hands which were perched on his knees. He closed his eyes, not wanting to repeat the words but knowing he needed help if he wanted to get (Y/N) back. âI accused her of scamming me.â Jacob shook his head as it rested in his hands. âAnd then I said I didnât even know if she was carrying my child.â
Bo emitted a low whistle, before muttering the word, âfuck.â
Jacob looked up at his friend, eyes rimmed red from drinking all night, but also from shedding tears earlier. They threatened once again to bubble to the surface. âShe pulled out the parental rights form, she gave me when she first told me about the baby. Told me I had twenty-four hours to sign it, along with the divorce papers.â
âOr what? WaitâŠdid you say divorce papers?â The look on Boâs face could only be described as flabbergasted. His eyes were blinking rapidly as he tried to absorb all that Jacob had said.
âFuck,â Jacob cursed, not realizing that heâd let slip that you were married, though if (Y/N) had her way you wouldnât be. âSo, uh, yeah, we got married in Vegas. We planned on getting a divorce. I even had my lawyer draw the damn thing up and (Y/N) even signed it. Then she found out she was pregnant, and wellâŠnow I donât want to sign them. I love her, man, but I fucked up really bad, and I think sheâs gone for good.â A single tear trickled down Jacobâs cheek and he swiped it away, but not before Bo saw it, and how bad his friend was hurting.
âItâs not too late. Iâm sure sheâs still in Vancouver. We just have to figure out where and then come up with a plan for you to win her back.â Bo patted Jacobâs back in an effort of support. âThough one question. Do we know anything about the guy she was with?â
âYeah, she slapped that in my face right as she walked out the door. Itâs a friend of hers, he wanted her help in proposing to his girlfriend.â
âI knew there had to be an explanation,â Bo stated as if he were proud of himself for not jumping to the same conclusions that Jacob had. âSo, letâs think. When did she leave?â
Jacob had lost all concept of time, to be honest. He knew that he walked back into the house close to seven. It was nowâŠhe looked around the room searching for a clock since he didnât have his watch on. He picked up his phone instead, noting the time was now almost two oâclock in the afternoon. âFuck, sheâs been gone at least five hours.â Jacob jumped off the couch ready to go search for her. What if she wrecked her car and was on the side of the road laying helpless? She wasnât used to driving in wintry conditions like this.
âOk letâs not jump to conclusions,â Bo told him, trying to sound reassuring. âSheâs not with Holly, because I just left there.â
âNormally, Iâd say sheâd run to Sarah, as the two became pretty close, but with Guddy getting traded, theyâre both in Pittsburgh now.â
âWhat about Kendra?â It was a thought, as you were also close with Chris Tanevâs girlfriend.
Jacob quickly dialed Chrisâs number. âHey man, I was wondering if (Y/N) was by chance out with Kendra?â He cut to the chase not having any time to make small talk.
âUm, Kendraâs been here all day.â
âHas she talked to her at all?â
âIs something wrong, Marky?â Chris asked, sensing the urgency in Jacobâs voice.
âWe had a fight and she left.â He left out all the details, not wanting to get into it at the moment. âI just need to find her.â
âHold on a sec.â Jacob could hear Chris shuffle around and then there was some mumbling. âSorry man, she hasnât spoken to her today. She did say she would give her a call if you want.â
âCould she? I mean donât say that I asked her to call. I just need to know sheâs ok.â
Chris could hear the worry in Jacobâs voice and he sympathized with him. He knew dating a professional athlete wasnât easy. Hell, he and Kendra had had their fair share of problems. âHold on, sheâs calling now.â Jacob paced the living room, praying that you would pick up the phone. âIt went to voicemail, man, but she said to call. Donât worry she kept it vague, asking if she wanted to go to dinner.â
âThanks, man. Let me know if she calls back.â
âWill do, but Marky, if you need us to do anything else, let us know.â Jacob knew his hockey family would do anything they could for each other and this was no exception. Even when they didnât know what the problem was.
 âThanks. Iâll keep you posted.â
âNo luck?â Bo inquired once you hung up the phone.
âNo. She could literally be anywhere.â Jacob felt like throwing something again, though he refrained with Bo there.
âYou said she stayed up all night, right?â When Jacob nodded Bo continued. âIâd guess that she didnât go far then. As pissed as she is at you, (Y/N) isnât going to put your babyâs life in jeopardy. My guess is sheâs probably at a hotel somewhere.â
Bo had a point; you would never do anything that would harm your daughter. âSo do I just start calling every hotel?â
 âYeah, I suppose we do.â
âThereâs got to be a couple hundred,â Jacob said pulling up trip advisor. âI donât even know where to start.â
Bo looked as puzzled as Jacob felt. âWait. You told me that when (Y/N) first came here to tell you about the baby, you asked her to stay here with you instead. Where was she staying that time?â
It was a long shot, but one Jacob was definitely willing to take. âThe Fairmont, I think.â He was already pulling up the hotel, looking for the number to call.
After listening to an automated teleprompt, which took too long in Jacobâs opinion, someone finally answered. âFairmont Pacific Rim how can I help you?â
âUmâŠyeah I was wondering if you had a guest staying there by the name of (Y/FullN)?â
âYou canât just ask if sheâs staying there,â Bo hissed, then grabbed the phone from Jacob. Who obviously wasnât thinking straight at the moment. âI mean, I was wondering if you could connect me to her room.â
There was a pause at the other end, and Jacob could hear a bit of typing as it was on speaker. âHold one minute and Iâll connect you with her room.â
It looked like the long shot paid off. âWhat do I say?â Jacob asked as the phone call was being transferred, but Bo hung up the phone as soon as (Y/N) answered. âWhat the fuck?â
âListen, the minute she hears your voice sheâs going to hang up.â Jacob hadnât thought of that. âAnd then sheâll probably leave the hotel completely and youâll be back at square one.â Again, Bo was making sense. Jacob didnât know what he wouldâve done without him there. âYou need to go there, find out what room sheâs in, and apologize your ass off.â That part Jacob knew. He just wasnât sure it would be enough. âTaking flowers might help.â
 âFlowers?â
âYeah, right. You definitely need something better than that.â Jacob might have an idea where that was concerned. Now his only problem was trying to find out which of the three hundred and seventy-seven rooms you were in. âWant me to come with you?â
âThanks for the offer but Iâve got to do this on my own.â
Bo got up and headed to the door. âGood luck man. You know where to find me if you need me.â Jacob wondered if he said that last part because he knew Jacob had no chance of winning you back.
âThanks. Iâm going to need all the luck I can get.â
 ***
âI know Kenny,â you told your best friend after she told you for the millionth time that you could come and live with her and her new husband. It was an option, but not one you wanted to take. âI donât know what Iâm going to do at the moment, but thank you for the offer.â Ever since you had woken up, your dreams had haunted you. You hated the idea of your child growing up without a father. It wasnât fair to Jacob or the baby. Youâd only had that document drawn up, in the beginning, to give Jacob a way out, seeing as youâd had yours but opted to keep the baby instead of aborting it. It had only seemed fair at the time since youâd made the decision to have your little one. Now, you hated that option still existed in legal form.
âAre you sure you donât want me to fly out there?â Kennedy asked, breaking your thoughts.
âYes, Iâm sure. I have to face him at some point. I canât hide here forever.â Though that was your original intent. The longer you thought about it, the smaller that option became. You couldnât deal with Jacob through lawyers your entire life. You were going to have to see him and you might as well do it now, so you could figure out how to live the rest of your life. If Jacob changed his mind and signed the papers, then youâd definitely take Kennedy up on her offer. But on the slim chance that he hadnât, you needed to find out how the two of you could co-exist together. Whether that meant you stayed in Vancouver or went back to LA, you werenât sure at the moment.
âWell, just say the word and Iâll be there.â
âI will. Listen, I need to change and build up the courage to take my ass back to his house. Iâll call you once Iâm back at the hotel and tell you what weâve decided.â
âOk (Y/N). Remember be strong and I love you.â
You started to cry again at her words; damn pregnancy hormones. âLove you too, Ken.â With that, you hung up the phone. You looked down at your plate from room service, there sat the remainder of your burger, though the fries were all gone. There were only like ten on the plate. Who sends only ten fries to a pregnant woman? Ok, maybe it was twelve. You called down to room service to order a side of just fries and then headed to the bathroom to splash some water on your face. The robe you were wearing, slipped partially open revealing your baby bump, and you took a moment to caress the little life growing inside you. âI wonât let you down little one.â
You no sooner got the words out and there was a knock at the door. It had to be room service, but damn that was fast. You thought youâd at least have time to change into your clothes. Pulling the robe tighter across your body, you headed to the door, not even bothering to check the peephole. âThat was fastâŠâ Anything else you were going to say died on your lips as you stared at Jacob. Part of you wanted to just collapse in his arms, while the other wanted to shut the door in his face. It wasnât that you didnât want to talk to him. Hell, you were planning on heading over there. You just wanted it to be on your terms.
Jacob must have sensed your distress. âPlease (Y/N).â He begged, hand bracing against the door so you wouldnât shut him out. âI just want to talk.â There was no point in fighting it, so you opened the door wider to let him in.
Jacob didnât say anything right away, just sort of took in the room. He noted that youâd at least eaten something already and smiled at that fact. At least you were taking care of the baby. He knew you would though.
When he didnât say anything, you found yourself asking, âHow did you know I was here?â
âOh, well it was Boâs idea.â You grimaced not liking the fact that his friends and teammates were involved in your problems. âWe called the hotel and asked to speak to you.â Oh, so that was the call earlier that no one was there, you thought. âDonât worry the hotel didnât give out your room number. I overheard you call down for room service. I took a shot that this one was yours when I heard fries with extra ketchup.â Well, it had been your go-to the last couple of weeks. âYou look good,â Jacob commented, trying to fill the void, but also speaking the truth. To him, you had this glow about you, even though he knew that youâd been crying at some point. It took everything in him, not to reach out and just touch you as well as his daughter that was growing inside you.
âConsidering you saw me like seven hours ago, I canât see where Iâve changed that much.â The comment was flippant when you shouldâve just accepted the compliment and moved on.
âTrue.â Jacob shoved one of his hands in his pockets in an effort to keep them from reaching for you. It had been five whole days since heâd seen or touched you and he hated that he couldnât do it now. Words eluded him at the moment, so Jacob just decided to make things simple. âIâm sorry.â
You huffed at his feeble attempt at an apology, just shaking your head. Were you really just suppose to forgive him after a simple âIâm sorry?â It didnât work like that. âItâs not that easy, Jacob.â
âDamnit, (Y/N). I know itâs not.â Jacob ran a hand through his hair. âI shouldâve never accused you of that.â He couldnât bring himself to say the word scamming to you again. âI know you would never. Itâs just I saw those pictures and my mind got the best of me.â
 âPictures?â
âOf you and that guy, the stripper.â Jacob didnât know his name, nor did he care to know it.
 âNate?â
âYeah, Nate. If you had just told me the two of you met up; I wouldnât have jumped to conclusions.â
âSo, this is my fault now?â You asked throwing your hands up in the air, as you were exasperated with him. You really wanted this to work out. You loved Jacob. But man, when he said things like this, you really started to question if the two of you were meant to be together.
âNo, Iâm not saying that at all.â Jacob quickly blurted that out, seeing how the conversation was heading in a direction that wouldnât get you two anywhere. âFuck, I just wish I wouldnât have even seen the pictures.â
âWhat pictures Jacob? I donât understand. I mean yes, Nate called me while I was at my doctorâs appointment and said he was in town. He asked if we could meet up for coffee. So, I went because heâs a friend. I didnât say anything to you, because it was just lunch, nothing more. Itâs something that Iâve done with Sarah or Holly and never told you either.â
Jacob was frustrated. Had he only known this earlier he would never have said you were scamming him with your baby. âOne of the younger guys got sent pictures of you and this Nate guy out. They didnât know what to do so they showed them to Bo who sent them to me.â
âMay I see them?â You held out your hand waiting. Jacob looked them up then handed over the phone.
âI think Bo said it was a girlfriend or wanna be girlfriend sent them, though I donât know which player. They didnât want to be named, which I get.â
You looked at them. The first, a completely innocent shot of you and Nate. The next was a bit more intimate, with Nate touching your bump. The next was the ring and you groaned. It did look almost as if Nate was asking you to marry him. Then when the damn thing wouldnât come off your finger your anonymous photographer snapped a pic of you and Nate heading into the hotel. Hell, if you wouldâve seen these, you probably wouldâve jumped to conclusions as well. You handed the phone back to Jacob. âI wish I knew who had it out for me.â You commented off-handedly, for why else would someone take these. Closing your eyes for a second you decided to say the only thing that you could. âIâm sorry, I didnât mention the lunch to you. Maybe if I wouldâve things would be different.â You could tell he wanted to say something but you continued. âThough that doesnât excuse what you said to me. This is obviously something thatâs been bothering you or you wouldnât have said it.â
â(Y/N), I regretted saying that the moment those words left my mouth.â
âI know, but it doesnât change the fact that you said them.â
âSo, tell me how I can fix this?â You could see the hurt and sincerity in his eyes.
âI donât know if you can.â The answer was as honest as you could be, for you didnât know if he could make things better. The look of disappointment on Jacobâs face was evident, and you felt it as keenly as if it were your own. If only you could go back in time and change things, but you couldnât. Still, you needed to find a way to co-exist for your babyâs sake.
You were just about to tell Jacob this when he spoke first. âIâm not going to give up (Y/N), not on the babyâŠâ You were glad to hear that as you really did want him to be part of his childâs life. âOr on us.â
âYou canât say things like that.â At least that last part he couldnât, because if he kept saying things like that you werenât sure if you were going to be able to hold to your resolve.
âWhy not, (Y/N)?â Jacob gave in to temptation then and reached for your hand. When you didnât pull away, he took that as a good sign. â(Y/N), everything with you has felt right from the moment that I met you. I know I fucked up. I fucked up bad. But Iâm willing to do whatever I have to do to make it better, even if that means I have to wait forever for you to forgive me.â
You werenât even sure if it was about forgiveness anymore. It was more that he didnât trust you and without trust what did you have? âIâm not going to sign the papers, (Y/N).â It was only when Jacob said that, did you notice the envelope in his hand. âNot the ones for our divorce or the ones relinquishing my parental rights. I know this baby is mine.â
The hand that he had been holding finally let go of you, and he used it to open the envelope. âYou can go to your lawyer if you want, but I will do this every time that he sends me these damn documents.â He flipped the envelope upside down and little shards of paper tumbled to the ground. He let the envelope fall with it. âWe shouldâve never kept them. We shouldâve torn these up the minute that we decided to stay together. I donât know why we didnât, other than it gave us both an out.â You were finding it hard to breathe as you tried to hold back the floodgates at the tears threatening to fall. âI donât want an out, (Y/N). I want you. I want you and our little girl. I want us to be a family, and not because of some drunken night in VegasâŠâ He took both your hands then. His piercing blue eyes burning into yours. âBut because I love you.â His voice was small but steady, sure in his words but afraid of your rejection. It was then that the tears began to fall, one right after the other. âI love you, prinsessa, more than anything in this whole world.â The smile on his face faltered just momentarily as he looked at your bump. âWell, I guess there is someone I love just as much; little blueberry mango banana here.â
He loved you. Thatâs all you could think about. He loved you and you loved him. Was there really anything else that matter? Was your love for each other enough to get through this? You werenât sure, but you hoped to god it would be. You wanted to tell him you loved him too, but when you went to say that, something else struck you. âDid you say, girl?â
Jacob blinked several times. âYeah, yes I did. Weâre having a little girl, (Y/N).â The tears really started to fall then. You werenât exactly sure why. Youâd hoped for a boy. Even your dreams earlier had all been about Jacobâs son, but a little girl. Suddenly, visions of Jacob with his daughter swam before you. Him painting her nails and playing dress-up. Father-daughter dances where he would dress up in his finest suits to take his little girl out and twirl her around the floor. But the one that took your breath away was him walking her down the aisle. They all seemed so real, so perfect.
âWeâre having a girl?â you asked one more time, just to be sure you heard him right. Jacob simply nodded his head and smiled from ear to ear.
Jacob couldnât tell if you were happy that you were having a girl or upset that he had opened the letter without you, but after everything that had happened, he felt that the need to explain. Your hands were still folded in his, so he led you over to the sofa in the suite to sit down. âI donât know how long I was sitting at the desk staring at those papers before I decided to sign them. I didn't want to do it, prinsessa, but I knew it was what you wanted." You choked on a sob at his omission. "I had the pen in my hand ready to go, but that envelope was staring back at me. I had to know what we were having before I signed my child away. Because believe me (Y/N), I know this is my child.â He placed a hand on your bare bump as he has so many times, only this time it felt like more of a possession. âI had to know if there would be this little boy or girl running around out in the world that was a part of me.â He shook his head, before he told you the next part. âThe minute I opened that envelope, I knew I couldnât sign the paper. It didnât matter if it was a girl or a boy. I canât give up my child. I want to be there to see her take her first steps and hear her say her first word.â You could see the tears forming in Jacobâs eyes as he spoke and it broke your heart. âI want to be in her life, (Y/N).â He took a deep breath. âNo, thatâs not right. I NEED to be in her life.â
âOh Jacob,â you breathed out, as your hand went to his cheek. Your thumb brushing away the errant tear that had fallen. Jacobâs breath caught at your soft and gentle touch and you felt him hold it, waiting for you to say more. âI want that too.â It was a simple answer and you knew you needed to say more, but just those few words had him breathing regularly again. âI was getting ready to come to the house to tell you that. I know now that I could never keep you from our child.â The relief that he felt was indescribable for he couldnât imagine a world without you or the baby in it. âI only had that drawn up to give you a way out, but you were right. We shouldâve never kept it. Iâm glad you tore it up.â
âAre you, prinsessa?â All you could do was nod yes. âAnd the divorce papers are you happy that I shredded them as well?â He was back to holding his breath again; you could feel it as your hand still rested on his cheek.
âIâŠâ you went to say more but there was a knock at the door. You both turned, caught by surprise at the interruption. Then it hit you. âMy fries.â You werenât even hungry anymore. As you made a move to get up, Jacob stilled you. His tall frame moving to the door easily. He signed for the room service charge and took the tray, while you composed yourself. There were things that you needed to say to him and you didnât need to be a blubbering mess to do it. You swiped furiously at the tears that had been streaming down your face, hoping they would disappear.
Jacob set the tray down on the table, taking his seat in the process. When he went to lift the lid, it was your turn to stop him. âThey can wait. Iâm not that hungry anymore.â
 âYou should eat, prinsessa.â
âI will, but I need to say this first.â You were fidgeting with the ties on your robe, wanting to take Jacobâs hands in yours but needing some distance at the same time. âIâm still upset that you would think even for a second that I would come up with some elaborate scheme to take your money.â He went to say something but you held up your hand. âI thought we knew each other better than that. I thought we trusted each other more.â It was written all over his face, that he did trust you; you could see that, but there would still be a lot of ground to make up. âBut I understand where you may have gotten the wrong message with those pictures. It certainly didnât help that you stayed out drinking all night instead of talking to me about it either.â
âIâm truly sorry about that.â Jacob blurted before shutting his mouth so that you could continue.
âWe need to communicate better, and not just for our sake but for the babyâs as well.â Jacob nodded his agreement, remaining silent yet believing your relationship was more than likely over after you made that statement, for everyone knew a good basis for co-parenting always started with communication. âBut in order to do that, thereâs something that I have to tell you. Itâs something that I shouldâve told you a while ago, but I donât knowâŠI guess I was scared. What Iâm trying to say isâŠâ You took Jacobâs hands in yours this time, needing to touch him when you finally said the words. âI love you, Jacob. I have for quite some time.â
Jacobâs heart just about leaped out of his chest at your admission. He was so afraid you were going to tell him that you hated him or never wanted to see him again, that when you finally said those words, he thought he hadnât heard you right. âYou love me?â
âYes, I love you.â God, it felt good to say it out loud. Almost as if a weight had been lifted off your shoulders. Youâd kept it so long from him when you shouldâve been telling him every day. Maybe this whole mess couldâve been avoided if you had, for he wouldâve had more trust in your love then. But you couldnât dwell on the past you could only move forward in the present.
Jacob sat there with the most stupidly happy grin on his face. âI love you too.â
He went to pull you in for a kiss, but you held him at bay, confusion now marring his face. âWe still have a lot to work through. This canât happen again.â
 âI know and it wonât.â
âJacob, I need you, to be honest with me, and I promise I wonât be mad at whatever your answer is.â He nodded yet remained baffled by what you were saying. âIf you have any doubts at all about this baby being yours, I need to know now. We can have a paternity test doneâŠâ
âNo, prinsessa, we donât need to have any tests done. I know this baby is mine.â You were relieved to hear him say the words, though you were completely prepared to have a paternity test done to put away any doubts he may have. âI was an idiot when I said that and my only defense is that I was blind with jealousy.â
âYou have no one or nothing to be jealous of. I love you and only you.â This time there was no pushing him away as he bent his head to touch your lips. It was soft and tender, just a caress of his lips against yours. His one hand stole up to your neck, applying just a small amount of pressure as he deepened the kiss; his tongue sweeping in to mingle with yours. You felt like you could get lost in Jacob so easily as you felt your body melt into his. Youâd waited so long to tell him you loved him and though this wasnât how you expected it to happen, everything just seemed right.
Jacob was first to pull back as things started to get more heated between you, and you had to admit it confused you. He must have sensed this and dropped another sweet kiss to your lips. âThereâs one more thing, prinsessa.â The hand at your neck traveled quickly down to his pants pocket and you couldnât possibly imagine what he was searching for. He kept his fist closed when he finally pulled it out, piquing your curiosity further. âI never asked you properly, and I canât think of a better time than now to do this.â He slunk down off the couch and onto one knee and suddenly you felt giddy with excitement. âOurs is definitely not a storybook romance, prinsessa. But I do think I fell in love with you the moment I saw you. I donât remember much of our wedding together and I know neither do you, but what I do know is Iâm forever grateful to that Elvis impersonator that married us. When I came back to Canada part of me thought I wouldnât get to see you again, but then we started texting and talking and I just fell more in love with you.â Your hands were shaking and Jacob took them into his one large one. âThe day you came and told me about our little blueberry was the best day of my life because this little girl brought us back together. I know Iâve been stupid, but if youâll let me, Iâll make it up to you every day for the rest of our lives.â Jacob opened his hand though for some reason you couldnât stop staring into his beautiful blue eyes. âI know weâre already married, but I want to do it again, my love. I want our family and friends there to see how much we love one another. But most of all I want to give you a choice, that you didnât have.â He paused swallowing hard as he tried to choke past the tears and fears that were hovering inside him. âWhat Iâm asking (Y/N) is if youâll be my wife?â
You didnât think that you could love him more, but him giving you the option right now just made that love grow by tenfold. âYes, Jacob, yes Iâll marry you.â A smile broke across both your faces before you added. âAgain.â The two of you laughed as he took the ring and slid it onto your left hand. Before you even glanced at the diamond, you kissed your husband. Your hands cupping his face as you molded your mouth to his. This time it was you who broke the two of you apart. âLetâs go home.â
âDonât you want your fries first, prinsessa?â
âOh, I forgot all about them.â It was only when you went to remove the cover that you finally looked at the engagement ring on your finger. âJacob, this is the ring from Las Vegas. How did youâŠ? I thought you took it back?â
âI couldnât. I thought about it, but somehow, I just couldnât bring myself to do it. I told myself that I could pawn it later or something, but I really just wanted to remember that night with you. I think deep down, I never wanted to let you go.â
âOh, Jacob,â you said on a breathy sigh. The gesture had to be the most romantic one anyone had ever done for you. âDo you still have the wedding bands as well?â
âI do.â He reached into his pocket and pulled out the other rings.
âI think Iâd like us to wear these as well.â
âBut then everyone will know we were already married.â
âGood. Itâs about time the whole world knows Iâm in love with you.â
Jacob's smile grew brighter with each word you spoke. âAnd Iâm in love with you prinsessa, always have been.â

What Happens In VegasâŠDoesnât Always Stay There Masterlist
February fourteenth, you hated that date for as long as you could remember. When you were younger, of course, you handed out little Valentine cards with candy to all your friends and your entire class, the teachers making sure that every child got the same number of cards so no oneâs feelings would be hurt. Then when you moved on to high school it was a different story. The student council sponsored a carnation sale, where for a minimal cost you could send out a flower to your valentine or friends. It became a competition to see who could get more flowers, something you were never into, for you hated seeing a few girls and guys only get a couple versus others getting piles of flowers. You didnât hate it enough to protest the event, for you still sent out carnations to your friends and some of the guys you liked or possibly were dating at the time, but you still felt awful when at the end of the day you had dozens of flowers and someone in the class they were distributed out in, only had a couple. You found yourself quickly ripping off the tag and giving one or two to someone else, claiming they got mixed up. As you got older, you saw the whole Hallmark moment of it all. Where guys felt like they had to get you the perfect gift or dinner reservation when all you really wanted was a nice night of cuddling on the couch. The more you thought about it, the overrated holiday really didnât appeal to you. Why did someone need a special day to tell you they loved you. If they really loved you, wouldnât they tell you every day? You were telling Jacob these exact words the night before he left for a short road trip which would have him gone over the holiday.
Jacob was stressing about what to get you when you dropped the bomb about not really caring for Valentineâs Day. It was kind of a relief. The last time he had a girlfriend and a road trip that fell on the holiday, he was chewed out for not doing something more special than sending a bouquet of roses. He wasnât sure what his ex had wanted, other than a diamond engagement ring, which he was not willing to buy right then, but it certainly wasnât the flowers. Strange how things had almost come full circle, in that now the only thing he wanted to give you for Valentineâs day, was the ring he had put on your finger way back in September. When you had given it back to him the next morning, he just couldnât bring himself to return it to the jewelers. It wasnât like he needed the money, though returning it wouldâve been the smart decision. There was just something about waking up that morning and seeing it on your finger. Almost as if he knew then, that he even though one drunken night had brought you together; the two of you were meant to last a lifetime.
He'd taken the ring back to Vancouver and stowed it away, only recently putting it in the envelope with your divorce papers. He hadnât wanted you to find it and surely there was no reason to go through those same papers now that there wouldnât be a divorce. The only problem now was when to give it back to you. The two of you hadnât yet made your marriage official to anyone, not even your parents. It was only a matter of time before that happened and when it did Jacob wanted you to wear that ring again. He was toying with the idea of giving it to you as your âbigâ Valentineâs Day gift once he got home but until then, he had a box of Venus Et Fleurâs delivered on the special day.
âJacob, these are too much,â you told him over facetime. âYou didnât have to get me anything at all.â
âI know I didnât, but I wanted to.â
âTheyâre very beautiful, thank you.â You blew him a kiss over the phone. âIt makes the homemade card I gave you look pathetic.â
âAre you kidding? I loved it. I plan on cashing in on these coupons in here as well.â Youâd given him fun little romantic notes that he could use anytime as a fun gift assuming that the two of you wouldnât be going all out for the holiday. âLike this one here.â He held up the voucher that said good for one free make-out session anytime. âWish I could cash that one in right now.â
âWell, if you were here, Iâd tell you to keep the coupon for a rainy day and make out with you anyhow.â
âMmm, you donât play fair wife.â He suggestively wiggled his eyebrows making you laugh. âI should change the subject before I have to leave to watch films or Iâll end up being late.â The comment just made you giggle more, for phone sex was nothing new with your libido in high gear from the baby. âWhat time is your appointment again?â
âThree oâclock.â Your ultrasound had gotten moved to a week later due to a scheduling conflict at the doctorâs office, and now Jacob wouldnât be able to be there. At the twenty-one-week mark, you were now going to be able to find out the babyâs sex. âDonât worry, I wonât even ask if banana is a boy or a girl.â
âIâm not worried youâll ask. Iâm more afraid if itâs a boy youâll just be able to see bananaâs banana. You know like father like son.â He smirked while you busted out laughing. Oh, Jacob was well-endowed thatâs for sure, but his ego didnât need to know that.
âIâll avert my eyes in that direction.â
âGood, I have to get going but Iâll call you after the game to see how you made out. Happy Valentineâs Day, (Y/N).â
âHappy Valentineâs Day, Jacob.â You left shortly after the call making sure you were at the doctorâs office with plenty of time to spare. As luck would have it, the baby did co-operate and the doctor was able to tell the sex but she sealed it in an envelope for you and Jacob to open at a later time or give it to someone for your gender reveal party if you decided to do one. She told you that the baby looked healthy and that your pregnancy was progressing well, which you knew would put Jacob at ease.
You were just getting ready to leave the office when you got a text message from your friend Nate. He was in town with Thunder from Down Under doing a few shows and was hoping you could meet up as he needed your help. Since you didnât have plans and were already out, you headed over to the cafĂ© close to the hotel he was staying at. The outfit you were wearing didnât hide your pregnancy well and since you hadnât announced it on social media, you were pretty sure Nate was going to be surprised when he saw you.
âWell, look at you. Who knocked you?â His thick Australian accent, made you chuckle or maybe it was the bluntness of his words, though you knew he meant them in a teasing manner.
âOh, youâll never believe it.â He gave you a hug, then held out a chair for you to sit down.
âTell me it wasnât Eddie or Iâll have to beat the bloody piss out of âem.â
âRelax, it wasnât Eddie, though it did happen in Vegas.â You proceeded to give him the quick version of what had gone on with you and Jacob, though you left out the getting married part. ââŠand thatâs how I ended up here in Vancouver.â
A low whistle left Nateâs lips at the end of your story. âWell, makes my news a little anticlimactic.â
You grabbed his hand. âOh my god, Iâm so sorry. Here I am going on and on, and you were the one who needed advice.â
Nate took his free hand and covered yours, giving you an easy smile that always seemed to grace his face. âItâs fine, (Y/N). Believe me, I needed an explanation when you walked in with this little bubs.â His hand then went to rub your belly where the baby was.
âWell, Iâm all ears now, so tell me whatâs going on?â
âI decided to ask Piper to marry me.â
You immediately got up and embraced him. âThatâs wonderful. Iâm so happy for you two.â The hug was a little longer than you intended, but then you were excited for one of your friends. What a complete change that was considering only five months ago you were the one belittling the sanctity of marriage to your best friend, Kennedy. Now that you were married to Jacob, it was a different story. âWell, I donât see how you need my help.â
âOh, well when I saw you were in Vancouver, I knew you were the perfect person to ask about how I should propose. Itâs practically your job setting up these commercial-like proposals.â He wasnât wrong, youâd done a few commercials for big name jewelers doing just this thing. âBut first let me show you the ring.â He pulled it out of his pocket, the diamond glistening in the light.
âOh Nate, itâs beautiful.â
âDo me a favor and try it on. I need to see how itâs going to look. It was my grandmotherâs and all I can picture it, is on Nanaâs hand.â You slipped it on and had to admit it looked even better on your finger than it did in the box.
âGorgeous,â you told him, dancing your fingers in front of him.
âIt does look good, I have to admit. Hope sheâll like.â
âSheâll love it, Nate.â You glanced at the ring one last time, remembering the one you wore briefly from Jacob. Part of you wondered now that two of you had decided to stay married if youâd get a ring like that again. It seemed silly since you really wouldnât be engaged. You shook yourself out of your musings, then went to slip the ring off, only it wouldnât come. âOh god, itâs stuck.â A panicked looked crossed your face. âItâs this damn pregnancy weight, somedays I just swell up like a balloon.â You tried again.
âRelax, I know a trick, just need some dental floss. Thereâs some in my room.â He threw down a few dollars for a tip and the two of you headed off to the hotel. Where you were able to get the ring off in no time. The problem was, you didnât realize someone was watching the whole exchange.
***
When Jacob spoke to you that night, you never mentioned the meeting with Nate, as it seemed inconsequential, especially when all the two of you could talk about was the sex of the baby. Two days later, Jacob was on the plane back from San Jose thinking about how only five months ago the two of you had talked about hooking up during this road trip. Now he was on his way home to you. Things had definitely changed for the better in his mind, and he couldnât wait to get home. Heâd made the decision that he was going to give you back the engagement ring, then he could tell the world that you were truly his. Well, he had to say those three little words to you first, but he had it all planned out, doing it while he was down on one knee this time proposing to you properly.
Jacob was lost in thoughts, as the plane soared above the clouds. So much so that he didnât notice Bo sit down next to him. âMarky, we need to talk.â
There was a serious look on Boâs face, which Jacob attributed to the loss the team had just endured. âI know that last one Pavs got in is on me manâŠâ Jacob said taking full responsibility for letting the game-winning goal in.
âNo, itâs not, but thatâs not what I want to talk about.â Jacob looked at him curiously urging him to continue. âLook one of the younger guys got this yesterday, but they were too afraid to bring it up to you.â Bo pulled out his phone, pulling up pictures that apparently one of Jacobâs teammates had sent him. âItâs not pretty, but I think you need to remember this might not be the whole story.â Jacob took the phone from him and stared at the screen. He blinked a few times when he saw you sitting at a table, some random man holding your hand.
âWhat is this?â The next one showed you embracing the man, and then he was caressing your bump. The longer Jacob looked the more his blood boiled. He flipped through the last couple of pictures of what looked to be a proposal and then you and this mystery man heading into a hotel. Jacob wanted to throw up and heâd never been airsick a day in his life. He swiped to the right, going through the pictures once again.
âLook thereâs got to be an explanation for this. Maybe itâs some sort of ad campaign (Y/N)âs working on.â
Jacob just nodded his head, his eyes locked on the screen. That had to be it. There was no way that you would do something like this. You were carrying his child for godâs sake. He zoomed in then, making the manâs face bigger. It was a face he recognized, though he wasnât sure why, and then it hit him. It was that guy, the stripper from Australia. The one he knew youâd slept with. He remembered your friend Jade letting it slip that day in the pool. But why were you meeting him and why did it look like you were accepting a marriage proposal from him? âI need a drink.â
âGood thing we just landed.â Jacob didnât even register the plane landing. âIâll text Holly and tell her weâre going out for a drink. Look, no one knows about this but the guy who showed me and weâll keep it like that until we figure everything out.â Bo patted Jacob on the back, then took his phone out the Markyâs hand.
âSend me those.â Jacobâs voice didnât even sound like his as the words came out so monotone and dispassionate. He felt numb. âCan you have Holly let (Y/N) know? I canât even message her right now.â
Bo frowned, not liking that Jacob was disconnecting from you but not voicing his displeasure either. He knew that Jacob needed time to absorb what he just saw. âYeah, Iâll have her text her.â
One shot turned into the two, and then two turned into more. Each shot brought a little more clarity though. There had to be an explanation for why you were with the Australian meathead. Bo was right, it was probably an ad campaign you were working on, though why you were working on it with that guy was beyond Jacob. He knew that even though you hadnât said the words, that you loved him. He could see it in your eyes when you looked at him and feel it in your touch. Just because neither of you had said the words out loud didnât mean that you didnât love one another.
It was just too bad this knowledge didnât stop Jacob from drinking. Bo couldnât abandon his friend but wasnât able to stop him from getting sloppy drunk. He eventually hauled him out of the bar, but Jacob plead with him to not be taken home to (Y/N) like this. Bo agreed as long as Jacob text you, however, Jacobâs fingers didnât want to work and though he typed out an incoherent message; he forgot to hit send.
You paced the house after waking up at two in the morning and not finding Jacob lying next to you. This wasnât like him, or maybe it was; after all, you had met when the two of you were both heavily drinking. This just wasnât the Jacob you knew now. Your Jacob texted or called even when he was running late from the rink; he didnât stay out all night doing godâs knows what or who. As much as you didnât want to think about it, your mind went there. What if Jacob was with someone else? Your body was changing rapidly, and maybe he just wasnât into you like he had been at first. He could be with some skinny little toothpick right now, instead of you who was pregnant with his child. You tried to shake those thoughts, as well as the ones that had him lying helpless in a hospital because of an accident or something, as minutes turned into hours. You dozed here and there on the sofa, never fully falling asleep as worry set in.
Jacob turned the knob of the front door as quietly as he could, hoping he wouldnât wake you. He already knew that you were going to be pissed after staying out all night; not that he still wasnât upset after seeing those photos. Being as stealthy as he could, he made his way through the house, only to stop short when he saw you wide awake in the living room. âWell, Iâm glad to see youâre alive. I suppose I can finally go to sleep now that youâre home.â
You heard Jacob whisper a soft âfuckâ under his breath. âIâm sorry, (Y/N). I shouldâve called.â
âYeah, you shouldâve.â
âI only planned on going out for a drink but then it turned into a few more and wellâŠâ Jacob felt like an ass for making you worry. He may not know what happened with you and the Australian stripper, but the last thing he wanted to do was have you concerned for his well-being. He knew that he shouldnât be putting overdue stress on you or the baby.
âIâve been on the receiving end of your drinking,â you rubbed your rounded belly, knowing heâd get your meaning.
âIt wasnât like that. I swear!â He made a move closer to you, as you got off the couch to head back to the spare bedroom. There was no way you were going to sleep in your shared bed right now. You needed some time and space. âI just needed a breather from everything. Like this is all a bit much.â
âYou donât think I need one as well?â Youâd love to go out to the bar and have a few drinks, but that wasnât even an option. He raked his hand through his hair, as he tried to take yet another step closer. He reeked of alcohol. âIâm stuck in the house, in a place where I barely know anyone and to top it all off, Iâm pregnant.â You were shouting now, but you really didnât care. âYou donât think Iâd like to step away from it all for a minute?â
âYou go out with the girls to games and brunch. Itâs not like itâs all bad.â Jacob protested even though thatâs not what he meant by everything being too much, but he could clearly see that this was bothering you.
You closed your eyes and counted to three before opening them back up. âYes, yes, I do and Iâm grateful for that, but itâs not the same as having my friends around or just picking up going out for the night, and forgetting that you have any obligations.â He couldâve at least called, thatâs all you wanted.
He threw his hands up in the air. âI said Iâm sorry. I donât know what else to say.â
âNothing Jacob, you donât need to say anything at all.â You walked around the couch in order to head up to the bedroom. âItâs fine that I didnât know where you were or what you were doing all night or who you were with.â
âIs that what this is about? You think I was off fucking someone else?â
âI donât know what to think anymore.â You turned then to see that he was right behind you, barely even an inch separating the space between you, so you took a step back.
âThatâs great (Y/N). I see weâve developed a real amount of trust here.â Jacob went to say more but you cut him off.
âWell maybe if you wouldâve fucking called or text, my brain wouldnât go into overdrive.â You blew out a breath trying to remain calm, for it wasnât good for the baby to have you getting all worked up.
âYouâre right. I shouldâve called and Iâm sorry I didnât.â
Thatâs really all you wanted to hear. Well, that and maybe the fact that he wasnât screwing around on you while you were five and half months pregnant. âThank you,â you whispered quietly, then added. âItâs just hard to trust you when youâre gone for so many days and then you leave like that when you are home.â
âItâs hard for you to trust me?â There was an indignant tone to his voice and you could tell instantly you didnât like where this was headed. âWhat about me trusting you? Yes, Iâm gone sometimes several days for work and youâre here or supposed to be here, but then I see a picture of you with that fucking stripper.â
âWho Nate?â
âYeah, Nate, Mr. Thunder from Down Under.â Jacob started to pace around the living room, throwing his hand wildly in the air. âYouâre out with him and you never say a word to me. I know you two had a thing.â
âThat was years ago.â
âWas it? Or are you two just scamming me?â His face was flaming red, kind of like when he stops six or seven shots all in thirty seconds, but he wasnât the only one upset at the moment. The thought had crossed Jacobâs mind when he remembered Jade saying youâd been to the strip show the night before. What if youâd been with that guy, this Nate character, before hooking up with him? What if you were just passing this baby off to get his money?
âScamming you? What the fuck does that mean?â
âIt means I donât even know if thatâs my baby.â The words were out of Jacobâs mouth before he even realized heâd said them.
You gasped. It was loud and you could feel this pounding in your ears as your blood pressure rose. Tears pooled in your eyes, as they threatened to run over, but you held them at bay. Another deep breath was all you could take, feeling the baby kick you in the ribs, like Jacob had just kicked you in the gut with his words. You calmly walked out of the living room and into the office. Jacob hot on your heels. âI didnât mean that.â He blurted out. âWhat are you doing?â
Going over to his desk, you opened the drawer that held the file you wanted. You grabbed the envelopes out of it. âSign them.â He looked at you and then at the papers; your divorce papers he never filed and the document youâd had drawn up relieving him of his rights and duties as father of your child. A third envelope sat there, that simply read Baby Markstrom on it. Inside it contained the sex of the baby growing inside you. Jacobâs child, not Nateâs or anyone elseâs for that matter.
âI didnâtâŠâ
âSign them.â You all but spat the two words out at him. When he didnât make a move, you picked up a pen and shoved it at his chest. âI said, sign the fucking papers.â
Jacob swore in Swedish, at least you assumed he swore because you didnât know many words in his native tongue yet. âIâm not signing them, (Y/N).â
âFine, donât.â You slammed the pen back down on the desk, then walked out of the room.
âWhere are you going?â
âAnywhere but here.â You grabbed your purse and phone then headed towards the door, turning back around to leave him with these final words. âFor your information, Nate was here working, and no I did not go see him strip. I did have lunch with him, where he asked me to help him with ideas to propose to his girlfriend. Her nameâs Piper by the way in case you donât believe me. Sheâs all over Nateâs Instagram.â A stricken look crossed Jacob's face and you could tell immediately that he regretted saying what he did to you, though that mattered little now. âYou have twenty-four hours to change your mind about the papers.â
âIâm not going to change it.â He went to reach for you but this time you were quicker than he was.
âThen youâll be hearing from my lawyer.â With that, you slammed the door to the house.
***
Once you got in the car, you started to drive with no destination in mind. Snow was falling, just like the tears running down your face, and you found yourself being thankful for Jacob making you get the SUV when you moved here instead of the sportscar you were driving in LA; though how you could be grateful for that man at the moment you didnât know. Right now, you hated him. You hated the words he said, and you hated the thoughts he had about you and the baby. Most of all you hated that you didnât hate him at all.
You turned onto another street, still driving aimlessly. You had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. You were truly all alone in this city. All of your friends were Jacobâs and while heâd said that they were now your family, the truth was they were his; you were still the outsider. Using hands-free calling you dialed up the one person you knew you could always count on. â(Y/N)?â
âKennedy,â you choked out somehow through tears.
âWhatâs wrong? Why are you crying?â
âItâs over KennyâŠitâs over.â You sniffled trying to stave off the tears but they kept on flowing.
âWait, (Y/N), are you driving?â Kennedyâs mom voice totally took over. âI need you to pull over as soon as itâs safe. You shouldnât be driving my nephew or niece around when youâre like this.â Kennedy was right, of course. The roads were slick and it just kept snowing harder and harder. You took the next exit and pulled into the nearest parking lot. â(Y/N) are you still there.â
She knew you were; she could hear you sobbing, but still, you answered. âYeah.â
âTake a breath and tell me what happened.â You did just as she suggested. When you didnât answer, Kennedy started making assumptions. âDid he cheat on you? Because I swear hockey player or not, Iâll have Ryan beat the shit out of him.â
âNoâŠâ you took another deep breath trying to compose yourself. âItâs worse.â
âWorse than cheating? The fucker, Iâll throat punch him myself.â God love Kennedy for not having a clue as to what happened but coming to your defense. The thought of her trying to hit Jacob made you chuckle, considering she was just a petite thing and Jacob was all of six foot six without shoes. She must have heard the change in your voice, for she continued to prompt you. âCan you tell me what happened?â
âHe thinksâŠhe thinks Iâm scamming him, Kenny.â
âHuh?â
Another deep inhale. âHe thinks Iâm trying to pass someone elseâs baby off as his.â
âHe what?!?!â she screamed into the phone. âWhy in the hellâŠâ
âI donât know, Kenny. I just donât know.â A fresh set of tears started rolling down your face. âHe was out drinking all night and just came home.â
âItâs seven oâclock in the morning!â
âI know, trust me I was pissed. He never called or texted. Nothing. Just walked in through the door, then we argued. Thatâs when he said he thought I was scamming him and that he didnât even know if the baby was his.â
âWell, who the fuck does he think it is? Youâre not the virgin Mary.â
A dry laugh escaped your lips. âFar from it. For some reason, he thinks itâs Nateâs.â
âNate as in stripper guy, whoâs been dating someone thatâs not you for the lastâŠI donât know, two years or so.â
âExactly!â
âThatâs just ludicrous.â
The more Kennedy agreed with you, the more indignant you became. âIt just hurts that he would think that Iâm that type of person. Itâs like he doesnât know me at all.â
âWell, obviously he doesnât or he wouldnât be making such an asinine statement. What did you say to him?â
âNothing. I walked into the office, pulled out the divorce papers and the parental release statement, and told him to sign them.â
âWait back up a minute. I thought you were divorced.â
Shit! You forgot that not even your best friend knew that you were still married. âSoâŠuhâŠyeahâŠJacob never signed the divorce papers. I only found them a few weeks ago, but thatâs beside the point. We kind of decided to stay married, but nowâŠâ you started to sob again. âNow, I donât know what to do.â
âOkâŠitâs ok (Y/N),â Kennedy said in a soothing voice trying to get you to calm back down. âWe canât solve anything when youâre this upset.â
It was true. There was no way you were going to get through this if you burst into tears every five minutes. âIâŠI donât want to do this alone.â
âYouâre not doing anything alone, (Y/N). Iâm right here with you.â
âOh Kenny, I didnât want this at allâŠâ You cried a bit harder now but were still able to get the words out this time. âNot the marriage, not the baby, not any of it.â Of course, Kennedy knew all this for youâd said it numerous times. âBut now itâs all I want. I love him, Kennedy. I fucking love him and heâŠâ You were back to sobbing as youâd finally admitted those three little words that had been threatening to spill out for weeks now.
âOh, (Y/N).â You heard Kennedy sniffle and took some comfort in knowing that you werenât crying alone this time. âI know you love him, babe, and I know this sucks. Weâre going to figure this out.â God, you hoped she was right because right now you felt like your life was over. âFirst thing youâre going to do is calm down, again.â You kept trying to take deeper breaths but the baby wasnât letting you for some reason or maybe it was your broken heart, for at the moment there were two inside you that were breaking; both yours and the babyâs. âCome on, (Y/N) you can do this.â When you continued to cry, Kennedy decided to take a different tactic. â(Y/FullN), youâre going to stop this right now. Itâs not good for you or that child youâre carrying. I know your hurting, but youâre not doing anyone any good carrying on like this.â
That made you stop for a second. You knew your blood pressure was up from the exchange with Jacob and now it was probably even higher from all the crying youâd been doing. This wasnât good for the baby and if there was anything that was more important than you or Jacob, it was your child. Slowly, you felt yourself calming down.
âThatâs it, just keep taking deep breaths.â
âJesus, Kenny you sounded like my mom right there.â
âWell, I had to get through to you somehow.â You supposed when faced with her options you wouldâve done the same thing. âNow, knowing you, you havenât slept all night. So what youâre going to do, is go to a hotel, take a hot shower, crawl in bed, and sleep. I mean it (Y/N). Both you and the baby need that as well.â
Your stomach chose that moment to growl. âAnd maybe get some food.â
âThat too. Once youâve rested, give me a call and weâll go from there.â
âOk,â you mumbled back through the phone. It wasnât much of a plan, but at least it was something.
â(Y/N), youâre going to be ok. You know that right?â
âYeah.â It was a weak answer but it was all you could muster at the moment.
âAnd you know, you can always come back home. Ryan and I will help you every step of the way. We have two spare rooms that have yours and my niece or nephews name on it. Just say the word.â
Her offer was the sweetest thing youâd ever heard, though you had no intention of taking her up on it. âYou may regret saying that.â
âNever. Call me when you get to the hotel.â
âI will.â
âAnd (Y/N),â she said right before you went to hang up. âHeâs a fool if he lets you go.â
âI know, Kenny. Thanks.â
âAnytime. Love your guts.â It was something you always told each other as kids and still said to this day. It was the first thing that made you smile, in over ten hours.
âLove your guts more.â
âWell, technically I love yours more because youâre carrying my nephew or niece.â Only Kennedy could turn it around like that. âCall me when you get to the room.â With that, she hung up and you headed to the hotel, to just as Kennedy ordered.

Jacob sat down heavily in his chair at the desk. It was a seat he didnât often use, even less once you had overtaken the office. The room smelled just like you. Of your sweet perfume, that was solely you and not some expensive department store bottle fragrance. He closed his eyes just for a second and imagined you both working in this room. A small little figure sitting on the floor between your desk playing with their toys. But when he opened his eyes neither you nor the baby was there. He was alone, and it hurt.
Taking the envelope that held your divorce papers, in his hand, he lifted the flap and let the rings fall to the desk. There it was. The sparkling engagement ring heâd wanted to give back so many times over the last few weeks. The same one he planned slipping back on your finger last night when he got home. That was until Bo showed him those pictures. Now it sat on top of the band that he wore for only a brief moment in time, but wanted to wear for the rest of his life.
He shouldâve known better. You would never scam anyone, that wasnât the kind of person you were, and he knew that. He really did, but that little bit of jealousy had taken root in him and just grew more and more, like an infection left untreated. He just wasnât sure now if there was a way to heal it. Youâd been mad when you found the unsigned divorce papers, but not like today. Today, you were irate, and rightly so. Jacob had fucked up big time and he couldnât see a way out.
He looked at the other envelope, the one that contained his parental rights. The document was iron-clad tight. He had his lawyer look at it, even though he never planned on signing it. If he ever put pen to paper, his lawyer assured him that he would have no legal claim to your child. He wouldnât have to pay you child support and his name would never even appear on the birth certificate. The thought made him sick, for he knew the baby you were carrying was his. There had never been a shadow of a doubt in his mind until those pictures surfaced and even then, he knew deep down your little banana was his.
God, heâd made a mess of things; had from the start really. He might have been inebriated when the two of you got married, but he clearly remembered that he was the one that suggested it. And he was the one that shouldâve been responsible enough to put a condom on, but he hadnât. Heâd put you both in this situation, and he needed to be the one to get you out of it. Which meant he needed to sign the papers in front of him, even if every fiber of his being didnât want him to. He owed you that at least that. It would kill him, but maybe you could find some happiness, just you and his baby. Fuck, it hurt though.
Jacob closed his eyes and took a deep breath, in order to prepare him for what he was about to do. When he opened them, the envelope marked âBaby Markstromâ stared back at him. If he was going to give his baby up, he had to know what kind of void would be missing for the rest of his life. Would it be a little boy, one that he could teach how to skate and stop pucks just like he did? Or would it be a sweet little girl, with a smile like her momâs, one that would wrap around his heart, if he saw it, and never let go?
His hands shook as he tore at the flap. Slowly, he unfolded the paper, scared of what its contents said. The top had both your names on it, you marked as the mother and Jacob listed as the father. His breath caught a little at just seeing both of your names listed on an official document like this. The date that the sonogram was done on was next as well as who had performed it. About midway, it read, âBased on sonogram imaging performed on the date above, I certify to the best of my knowledge that baby Markstrom is aâŠ.â Jacobâs eyes focused in on the writing as he saw the word girl written in pink.
A girl.
He was having a baby girl. She would be all pink ribbons and pigtails, and she would look like her mom, with her cherry bowed lips. She would be all hearts and rainbows and carry a little teddy bear wherever she went. He had no doubt she would grow up to break boysâ hearts, but who would protect hers. Would you eventually find some man that would not only love her but Jacobâs daughter as well? Would that man glare at every teenage boy that dared to come knocking on the door to take her out? Would he be the one to walk her down the aisle when the time came and not Jacob?
A lump formed in Jacobâs throat and he found it hard to swallow. A myriad of images passed through his head. All of them of his unborn daughter living a life without him. She was happy in each one, but would she be happier if Jacob was there? He didnât know the answer to that question, but he knew that her mother would be, and it crushed him. He didnât want to do it, but he still found himself picking up the pen and getting ready to sign the papers that would no longer make him a husband or a father. His entire body was shaking as he moved the pen and started to sign his name.

What Happens In Vegas...Doesnât Always Stay There - Jacob Markstrom - Part 4
Word Count: 4,277
POV: Reader
Warning: Language, Smut, NSFW, Pregnancy stuff
Notes: Well hereâs part 4. When last we saw these two, our reader told Jacob she was pregnant. Now they have some decisions to make. Letâs see what happens. As always feedback is welcome. Happy Reading!
What Happens In VegasâŠDoesnât Always Stay There Masterlist
Jacob finally ended up carrying you to bed, after the game. He hated that it might possibly wake you, but didn't think that sleeping on the couch would be good for you or the baby. He wanted you to get as much rest as possible while showing you that moving here and letting him help you was really the best option for all three of you. Thankfully, you were still in a sleep fog as he lifted you off the sofa, really only conscious enough to wrap your arms around his neck.
The earthy scent of sandalwood and something else filled your nostrils. Something that you knew, subconsciously, was only Jacob. As he carried you up the stairs, this feeling of serenity and tranquility took over you. The past few days you had felt like you were stranded on a deserted island with no one to help and nowhere to go. Now, being here with Jacob, you just felt cared for, and dare you say it, loved. That last part you didn't want to think about, there were too many emotions as it was. Just because Jacob was feeling responsible for the baby, didn't mean that he loved you. The whole idea was ridiculous. You barely knew one another. A small part of you said that that didn't mean that love wasn't off the table, but you squashed that thought down, as Jacob laid you on the mattress.
You blinked rapidly, clearing the haze that had crept over you in sleep, to see Jacob staring down at you. The look in his eyes was undeniable. That feeling was something you recognized and felt yourself. Lust. You remembered that look as you saw it several times in Vegas, and you'd be lying if you said you didn't have that same feeling yourself. You'd had it since the moment the plane landed in LA and every time after that when you spoke to him on the phone. Now, it burned low, all the way down in your core, as you felt yourself yearning for him once again.
Jacob's eyes were glued on you, watching as you cleared the sleep from your eyes. Since the moment he'd laid eyes on you that day at the pool, he'd wanted you. It was only heightened now that you were in his home, lying on one of his beds. His brain told him it was wrong, but other parts of his body screamed that it was so right. When your hands didn't release their hold around his neck, he took that as a good sign and slowly brought his face closer to yours.
There was a mere inch separating the two of you when you finally whispered out. "I want you, Jacob."
"Are you sure?" He asked and you'd never been more sure of anything in your life. You knew this could get messy, but somehow at that moment, you didn't care. You had a little over seven months to figure it all out, surely that would be enough time. Right now, all you wanted to do was give in to the desires that burned deep within you.
A simple nod was all he needed before his mouth was hot on yours, his tongue plunging deep inside you, filling you with a passion that was all-consuming. You met him every step of the way, as your mouth fused with his. Eager hands lifted the hem of your shirt until you were sitting up so that Jacob could toss the garment somewhere in the room. Yours did the same to him, divesting him of every stitch of clothing but his boxers. His mouth left yours only so that it could travel down your skin, kissing your neck, your collarbone, and your breasts. It was only when he reached your stomach, as he was peeling off your panties that he stopped; the air growing heavy as you could see a frown forming. "Is this, ok?" Jacob asked you the simple question yet spoke to your tummy and you knew he was asking about the baby without saying the actual words.
You grabbed his chin between your thumb and index finger. "Hey, look at me." When he did you continued. "It's fine. The doctor said everything looks perfectly normal." That answer seemed to put him more at ease, yet his movements were still hesitant, as he finally slid your panties off. His fingers delved between your folds finding you wet and wanting, and making you pant with need. As good as what he was doing felt, you knew he needed reassurance. Pushing his boxer briefs down, you freed his cock; gliding your hand up and down his length before positioning him at your entrance.
Jacob watched your face intently as he entered you, afraid that he might be causing pain. You knew all he'd see there was pleasure, as he filled your pussy. He held himself still, once he was buried deep within you. It was only when you moved your hips, did he finally let go and start thrusting into you. Wrapping your legs around him, you allowed him to go even deeper yet. Jacob groaned as you moaned out when he hit that spot inside you perfectly. Though you'd only been together a few times it was as if he knew all the tricks that turned your body on. Never in your life had you been with anyone who you'd felt so in sync with, until him. It didn't take long for your orgasm to hit, as your pussy quivered around his cock. Jacob followed you with a few shortened thrusts and a low guttural moan. His lips locked with yours as the last spasms of climax left you both.
He pulled out of you, then rolled onto his back, gasping for air just as you were. "You, ok?" Concern laced his voice, and somehow you found the strength to roll onto your side so you could look at him.
"I'm more than ok." He smiled at you, a dazzling one that even in the dim light of the night, lit up the room.
 "And blueberry?"
It took you a minute to realize he was referring to the baby. "Is that what we're calling it now?"
He shrugged into the mattress before allowing his hands to skate down your sides to your midsection. "Seems like a fitting name for now."
"Ok, blueberry it is." It was a peculiar name, you'd give him that, but at least no one would really know what you were talking about until you decided to make the pregnancy more public. "Yes, blueberry is fine as well." He seemed more reassured, so you dropped your head down to rest on his chest. "You know we're going to have to talk about this thing between us more. It could get complicated if we keep ending up in bed."
Jacob just hummed, before adding, "Tomorrow. Let's just sleep now." He was right. There would be plenty of time to discuss it in the daylight, with your clothes on. Until then, you let your eyes drift shut and sleep take you.
There was something about being in Jacob's arms that made you feel safe and secure. That even though you didn't know what the future held, for it was not the one that you had planned, everything would be fine, because he was by your side. When you woke early the next morning before the sun was even out, you laid perfectly still, a bit nauseous having gone without food for longer than the baby wanted, or so you assumed. You tried to move without waking Jacob, for he looked so peaceful in sleep, but when a wave of nausea hit, you took off running for the ensuite.
Jacob was out of bed before he even knew what was happening. He felt you fly out of his arms, only to see you take off for the bathroom. By the time he walked in, your head was halfway in the toilet dry heaving. He felt like a helpless asshole, standing there not knowing what to do. He thought back to the times when he was sick as a child and how his mother would take care of him. So, he found himself kneeling beside you, pulling back your hair while he idly stroked your back. Your body heaved a few more times before you finally stopped, yet still, he continued to rub his large hand up and down your bare skin. "What can I do?"
"Crackers," you were able to mutter back, and he was gone in a flash, as you stayed on the bathroom floor recovering. You caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror; naked, shivering, with your hair a mess. It was quite a sight and you were pretty sure that Jacob would want nothing to do with you after this. How was it that the one man you could finally see yourself being with, was seeing you at your utter worst?
When Jacob walked back into the bathroom, his gut twisted in pain. You looked so small and frail, and all he could think of was that his carelessness had done this to you. He wanted nothing more than to collect you in his arms and protect you, even though he knew that this was something he couldn't shelter you from; it was just a part of life. Still, his heart did that funny little lurch, the one that told him that what he was feeling was way more than even he wanted to admit for you. "Here ya go. I'll stop at the store today, so we can have them in every room for you." It was a small gesture, but he would do anything to prove to you that he was in this for the long haul.
"Thank you." The mumble coming out garbled as you bit down on a saltine. You thought for sure you'd completely turned him off when he left the room, but seconds later he was back with the duvet from the bed sitting down and wrapping you both up in it. The sight the two of you made could only be described as comical, as Jacob grabbed a cracker to munch on with you. You burst out laughing, and he joined you.
 "Feeling better?"
 "A little."
"So, is this an every morning occurrence? Not that it matters," he said right away. "I'm just trying to be prepared."
You shrugged a shoulder at him. "It's happened a few times, but I've noticed if I eat these," you held up the cracker in reference. "It helps immensely."
He nodded, making a mental note to have them in all the nightstands and end tables for you. "SoâŠabout last nightâŠ" You knew this was coming but weren't sure you were ready for it this soon. Sure, he had mentioned that he wanted you to move in but after your bout with morning sickness, you knew it was more for the baby's sake than anything between the two of you. Seeing you like this couldn't have been a turn-on. You steeled yourself for what was to come next. "I really want to try and make this work, and not just the parenting thing." You weren't quite sure you were following him. He must have seen the confusion on your face. "Sure, I want to be there for blueberry." You smirked at the use of the baby's nickname. "And I always will be. It's just...you and me. I want to give us a shot as well. I know we don't know each other well, but we can work on that these next several months." His hand absentmindedly went to the back of his neck, and you kind of thought that was a telling sign for him when he was trying to come up with the right words. "I want us to be a couple. Maybe that's naĂŻve to think that, especially since I know it's not what you wanted for your life right now, but I'd like to give it a try."
A tear slid down your cheek at his words, and you could see him already starting to build up a wall at thoughts of your rejections. "I'd like that too." You told him quickly before the stone building could be erected. "There's something between us Jacob, and if I'm being honest, it's more than just this little blueberry inside me." He was smiling again and you couldn't help but return it. That was the thing about Jacob, he seemed to always be in a great mood and it was infectious. "We certainly have chemistry."
 "Yes, we do."
Even though you were both on the bathroom floor, naked, eating saltines, there was a smolder in his eyes that told you he wanted you even then. It definitely did things to you. You shook yourself to clear where your mind was headed. "But I think there's even more. Those weeks after Vegas, when we just talked on the phone. Some nights I just didn't want them to end."
"Me either," he admitted. "So, then we're giving this a try?"
 "Yeah, I think we are."
There was still this little part of him that was unsure of something, you could see it there; so you raised a brow in query. "Does that mean when you come to the game tonight, I can introduce you as my girlfriend?"
Ah, so that was the problem. "Yes, I'd like that."
Jacob smiled; he definitely liked the idea of telling people the two of you were dating. Not only was it something he wanted the last couple of weeks, but it would make it much easier when you finally decided to tell people about the baby and being married. There was that nagging feeling in the back of his mind again. He should probably tell you right now that he hadn't yet signed the divorce papers, but somehow, he couldn't. It could wait he told himself. If things worked out between the two of you, and he was hoping they would, he'd eventually propose and then you could renew your vows and laugh about the whole incident. That was his plan and he was going to stick with it.
"I really want to kiss you right now," Jacob told you, but you could see the hesitance on his face and you didn't blame him one bit.
"Maybe after I've brushed my teeth."
 "Deal," he chuckled. "Feeling better?"
 "Much."
"Good, because my ass is cold on his damn tile." He wasn't wrong, yours was as well. He got up in one fluid motion then, helped you stand as well, wrapping the comforter around himself and then him around you. It was quite cozy, if not a bit awkward, as the two of you both brushed your teeth. He kissed you soundly, before the two of you headed back to bed, only this time with sleep on your mind.
A couple hours later, Jacob was up getting ready for practice as you cooked you both breakfast. He headed off to morning skate, saying he'd see you in a few hours, which allowed you some time for work. You made a quick trip to the set of the movie you were working on the ad campaign for, talking with producers about the things your firm had in mind while snapping a few shots of filming. By the time you got back to Jacob's place, he was already home.
He informed you that he talked to his teammate Erik Gudbranson and that his fiancé Sarah would pick you up and take you to the game. He'd given Erik your number so Sarah could call you. Which of course she did, asking if you wanted to grab dinner before the game. Since you had no plans and hated eating out alone, you said yes.
Sarah was an absolute doll. She treated you as if you'd known you her entire life. Through your conversations with her, you learned that she was a dentist, and it was refreshing to know that if you decided to move here you could still pursue your career while supporting Jacob. Sarah gave you all the ins and outs of the hockey world. Telling you how the guys napped every day, which at first you found ridiculous but once she explained about how much energy they were exerting you understood. While also informing you about trades and how one minute you can be playing somewhere and the next day you're up and moving. That was something you didn't want to explore, yet at the same time needed to consider when thinking about the baby. If Jacob got traded at some point, you could be moving to DC or Florida, and even if you weren't together you'd need to figure out how he could see his child. It was a bit overwhelming but at the same time, she made you feel like part of the hockey world.
When you finally got to Rogers Arena, you were feeling more inundated with hockey life. Sarah introduced you to all the wives and girlfriends, some more welcoming than others. You got along particularly well with Bo Horvat's fiancé, Holly, and Chris Tanev's girlfriend, Kendra. They made you feel at home and not an outsider at all. As Holly explained, now that you were with Jacob, you were family. You felt partially bad, considering they didn't know the full extent as to why you and Jacob were together, but there would be time to tell them everything at some point.
The game was a nail-biter and you could see the intensity Jacob had as he stopped each shot. You'd been to a couple of hockey games before, but hadn't paid a great deal of attention, now you couldn't tear your eyes off the ice or at least the home team's goalie. When Jacob let one slip in during the third period, you could see the frustration on his face. It was almost as if he was itching for a fight with the other team, which somehow you found extremely attractive. Thankfully, he was the better goaltender in the end not allowing the puck behind him as the game went into overtime. The Canucks got the W and you found yourself cheering along with the rest of the girls as the team celebrated on the ice.
Sarah had mentioned at dinner, that after the game you could meet up with Jacob downstairs in the locker room, so you followed her along with the others into the recesses of the arena. It took a bit, but soon the guys were coming out one by one.
"He'll be out in a minute (Y/N). I'm Erik by the way, the better half of this one."
"I reserve the right to make that call and so far, you have a lot to live up to." You playfully told Sarah's fiancé, which garnered you more favor amongst Jacob's team members. "I'm (Y/N)," you added holding out your hand for him to shake. "Though you already knew that."
"I did. Jacob talks about youâŠa lot."
"What do I do?" Jacob sauntered out of the dressing room heading straight for the three of you.
"Oh, I was telling her all your bad habits, like how you fartâŠ."
"ERIK!" Sarah chided, swatting at his chest. "We want (Y/N) to stick around, not scare her away. She hasn't decided if she's moving here or not."
The smile on Jacob's face from the win earlier, fell. He hated the thought of you not staying in Vancouver with him and not just because you were having his baby. He pushed the thought from his mind, as he wrapped an arm around your waist, hauling you close so he could drop a kiss to your forehead. "You could help a guy out you know." He finally told Erik.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm sure (Y/N) knows what she's getting into."
"Come on, we're leaving before you get Jacob into more trouble." Sarah came over to you then, pulling you from Jacob and giving you a hug. "When you're in town again, which I hope is soon, we'll have you over for dinner. I promise to make Erik be on his best behavior. Oh, and if you need someone to vote on you moving here or just talk about things, you have my number." She gave you a little wink then the two headed out of the building.
When it was just you and Jacob, he finally asked you what he was dying to know since the moment he stepped off the ice. "Did you enjoy the game?"
"It was great." Then you added because you knew he was fishing for it without actually asking himself. "You were amazing. You must have blocked a couple hundred shots. I don't know how you do it."
"Not nearly that many," he chuckled, his arms encircling your waist.
You let yours loop around his neck. "It seemed like that many." He just shook his head lightly. "Well, I still think you deserve a reward." You went up on your toes so you could kiss him.
Just as it was turning heated, a voice had you breaking apart. "Get a room, Marky!"
"Shut up DZ." You recognized him, from Vegas as the guy Jade was into, Michael Del Zotto. You were pretty sure Jade still had an interest in him, but she never admitted if the two of them had hooked up or not.
"Good to see you again, (Y/N). Hope you'll be a more permanent fixture around here."
 "We'll see," you answered non-committally.
"Let's head home," Jacob told you, taking your hand as you made your way out of the arena. "Maybe I can think of a way to convince you to stay."
He definitely made a good argument once you were finally home, but sex with Jacob wasn't really an issue. The chemistry between the two of you was something you weren't worried about. It was all the stuff that happened out of the sheets, that you were worried about.
While Jacob practiced in the morning, you worked again, so that when he got back you could head off to the OB/GYN. It was a bit awkward going to a doctor that you weren't familiar with, but then going to the gynecologist was never a fun experience. You supposed you were going to have to get used to it with how many appointments you'd have in the near future. The nurse showed you into the room and had you strip from the waist down. "Do you want me to wait outside?" Jacob offered.
"Why? It's not like you haven't seen me naked before."
His eyebrows picked up and you could see where his mind was going, but then he looked around and suddenly that look was gone. It made you laugh. It wasn't long before the doctor was coming in, thankfully a woman, which made it a bit more comfortable. "So, mom and dad are we ready for this?" You both nodded and she took the probe out, slipping a condom on it before inserting it inside you. You saw Jacob's eyes get round as saucer. You should've warned him that this would be a transvaginal ultrasound and not like the ones they show on tv. You grabbed his hand reassuringly to let him know you were fine. It took a second, but then a picture popped up on the screen. It literally looked like a blob. "Ah, there we go. See right there," she pointed out and you glued your eyes to where she pointed. "That's the baby."
A few more seconds and you could hear this swooshing noise. "And that's its little heartbeat." For some reason you felt tears in your eyes, for it was the most amazing sound you'd ever heard. "It's nice and strong. That's what we like to hear." She did a few measurements checking things out here and there. All the while, you couldn't tear your eyes from the screen. It was only when you felt wetness on your hand that you turned to see Jacob crying as well.
You looked up at him and just smiled. "I didn't think I would be this emotional over Blueberry." It was Jacob's admission but you felt the same way, and you had to swallow hard past all the emotions. You didn't want a baby, at least not at this moment in your life, but right now you wouldn't change a thing. You were in love with the tiny little blueberry on the screen and you felt like you could fall in love with its father as well.
"Blueberry huh?" The doctor said breaking the moment. "Well, I'll print off some pictures of blueberry here for you, but everything looks great. I saw where you're already taking the prenatal vitamins and everything. You'll need to schedule another appointment either here or in LA at the twelve-week mark so the baby can be checked again. If you're doing it in LA you'll want to call and get orders for blood work and urine tests. If you decide to stay here, I'll go write them up now. Just let me know when you come out."
She got up to leave then, but you stopped her. "Doctor," you gave Jacob's hand a squeeze. "Could you get them ready for me for when we leave and set me up with another appointment here?" She nodded then left the room.
Jacob stood there dumbstruck. "Does this mean?"
"Yeah, yeah it does." You sat up from the table to better look at him. "Looks like you've got yourself a roommate, Mr. Markstrom." Â

Happy Reading!
What Happens In Vegas...Doesnât Always Stay There Masterlist
"Fuck," you yelled, once you realized that you were now Mrs. Markstrom. This couldn't be happening. Your brain couldn't be remembering things right.
"Vad? Vada r fel?" Jacob mumbled in a haze of sleep, lifting his head to check on you. You had no idea that he was asking you what was wrong, as he automatically defaulted to Swedish in his drowsy state. "Are you ok?"
"No, no I'm not." Your voice was panicked and you were starting to break out in a cold sweat. "We're married!"
His head flopped back down on the pillow. "Oh, that."
Wait he knew and wasn't saying anything. "That," you said with a note of distress in your voice. "What do you mean 'oh, that?'"
He turned his head so that he faced you, as you straightened your body so you could rest against the headboard; fighting the urge to get up and pace the room. "It was a joke. We just took a couple pictures with some Elvis."
A joke? Ok, that kind of seemed like drunk you, after all everyone said you were a fun drunk. You sagged back against the mattress, breathing a sigh of relief. "So that's all it was, a joke?"
"Mmmhmm." Well, that made you feel a bit better. "From what I remember it was. Things are a bit hazy." Jacob saying that, did not. He got up then, rolling onto his side and propping his head up. "I vaguely recall saying we were just going to snap some pictures and show your friend how silly it was to rush into things. I'm sure that's all we did." He had to be right, that part of the night still eluded you, though you do remember wandering into the chapel. "Though we can still pretend we're on our honeymoon if you want."
His free hand, the one his head wasn't propped up on, slid under the duvet and across your midsection. His fingers wandering down to your core. His eyebrows wiggled suggestively, a silent plea for you to let him keep going. Now that you were a bit more relieved at knowing your marriage to him was some elaborate rouse, you were a bit more inclined for that second round with him, so you smiled giving him the green light to continue.
Jacob didn't need to be told twice, as you felt his fingers widening your legs to give him access to your pussy. His fingertips lightly brushed against you and you sucked in a breath. "Fan du ar vat." You had to admit that Swedish wasn't the most seductive language, but when it rolled off his tongue it turned you into jelly. He recognized that you didn't know what he was saying and translated for you. "Fuck, you're wet." You were, there was no denying that, as this man just did things to you by simply giving you a look.
He wasted no time sliding a finger inside you while his thumb brushed against your clit. You couldn't help the moan that escaped your lips as he made your body tingle with delight. "So sensitive, prinsessa. I love that." His mouth kissed the outside of your thigh as he still laid on his side, his fingers torturing you. "I may not remember all of last night," Jacob admitted. "But I remember hearing you moan." As if on cue, you groaned out when his finger hit your most delicate spot. "So pretty." He removed his fingers and you whined at the loss of contact. "Ride me, prinsessa." He rolled onto his back, giving your thigh a squeeze.
There was no denying your needs right then. You wanted him inside you, so you straddled him. Knees on either side of his hips, you positioned his cock right at your entrance. You savored the feel of him sliding inside you as you sunk down on him slowly, fully engulfing his dick inside you. Jacob's hands slid up and down your sides caressing your body. After your tumble with him last night, you knew your hair had to be a disaster, so you ran your fingers through your locks, hoping to at least make yourself a bit more presentable as you rode him.
Unbeknownst to you, the picture you painted Jacob was nothing short of pornography; arms raised above your head, tits bouncing, as you slowly moved your hips against him. While his memory of last night was a bit hazy, being buried inside you wasnât. He clearly recalled needing to get ahold of himself before he spent in you too soon. Now was no different, as he gripped your hips hard then wildly bucked up into you.
His movements thrilled you and had you bracing yourself against the headboard as he fucked you. He had told you to ride him but wasnât willing to give over the reigns completely, but that was ok with you. He slowed his thrusts, giving you back just a bit of control, yet his hands lingered at your waist ready to take it back at any minute. You ran your hands up your side, then cupped your breasts, gently pulling on the nipples. âMy god, youâre beautiful,â Jacob panted out as you looked down at him through hooded lashes.
The sound of your bodies slapping together filled the room. Jacobâs fingertips dug into your ass cheeks as you picked up your pace, riding him earnestly now. His hips met you every time you ground down on him. At one point Jacob couldnât take it anymore and he moved his one hand so he could toy with your clit. âOh fuck,â you breathed out when he rubbed the little nub. âJacobâŠIâm gonnaâŠâ The rest was a garbled mess as you came hard grinding down on his rock-hard cock inside you.
âYes, prinsessa.â Jacob watched you fall apart loving every emotion that played across your face. It pushed him over the edge and with a few more thrusts he spilled his cum deep inside your cunt.
Your body was spent as you sagged forward on top of Jacob. You were both breathing hard, chest heaving in an effort to draw in more air. After a few seconds, you felt his lips on you; kissing your forehead, your nose, and then finally your lips. The kiss was sweet and loving, perfect after the sweaty and exhausting sex that had just happened. âMin vackra prinsessa,â he whispered, tucking your hair behind your ear as it had cascaded around the two of you obscuring his view of your face. âToo bad our marriage is a joke, for I could get used to that.â
âWe donât have to be married for you to enjoy that again.â You pecked his lips then lifted off of him and rolled onto your side of the bed. âCome see me in LA anytime.â
âYou realize Iâll be there at least four times with my schedule, and San Jose isnât too far from you.â His body was turned towards you so that you could see the seriousness in his face.
âWell, I expect to be seeing my fake husband when heâs in town.â You gave him a little wink before adding, âAnd I think the trip to San Jose would be totally worth it.â He got up then and walked to the bathroom. You heard the water running and it wasnât more than a minute or two before he was back at the bed.
âHere.â He brought you a glass of water and a couple aspirin. It was exactly what you needed.
 âThank you.â
âSleep, itâs still early, then weâll shower later.â He dropped a kiss to your lips while tucking the covers up around then crawling into bed with you. He tucked you into his side and you swiftly drifted back to sleep.
It was a couple hours later that Jacob woke up before you. His mind troubled with thoughts. It wasnât a bad dream so much as a nagging feeling eating away at him. He carefully removed himself from the bed careful not to disturb you as you continued to sleep on peacefully. Covering himself with a pair of boxer briefs, he grabbed a bottle of water then sat down on the sofa in the suite. On the table lay the pictures from your fake wedding. He picked them up, laughing to himself at the photo on top. It was a dramatic shot of him asking you to marry him, and you acting shocked. He vaguely remembered doing that but the rest was all a blur. He leafed through the other shots. One of a fake Elvis, which seemed to be typical Vegas style, another of you kissing him after the proposal, still more of you being married by Elvis. They would all make for a cute memory of his time with you. Hell, part of him wished that he was married to you. He wouldnât mind being buried balls deep in you every night.
Jacob finally got to the last photo, or what he thought was the last picture; only it was some sort of document. He flipped it so that he could read it better. âFuck,â he whispered softly as he read the words so nicely scripted across the paper. It seemed to be a marriage license, signed not only by both of you but the Elvis impersonator as well, whose name wasnât Elvis and seemed to be a legitimately licensed marriage officiant.
He needed to find out if this was real, so grabbing the hotel phone off the end table, he called the chapel. âHello Mr. Markstrom, how can I help you?â An overly cheerful woman answered the phone.
âUm, yeah, so I was wonderingâŠI was there last night withâŠâ He had to look down at the license to remember your last night. âMs. (Y/LN) and I have our license in my hand. I was just wondering how valid this is?â
âOh, I can assure you Mr. Markstrom that it is one hundred percent authentic and has been filed electronically with the courthouse. You and Ms. (Y/LN) are indeed married. We make sure to dot all the Iâs and cross all the Tâs before we let you leave.â
Jacob covered the phone then muttered, âFuck.â
âIs there anything else you need?â
 âNo, umâŠIâm good. Thank you.â
âNo problem and congratulations again to you and the new Mrs. Markstrom.â
Jacob hung up the phone and swore furiously in Swedish. You stirred, hearing something but not really registering what was going on, as you blinked your eyes several times clearing the sleep from them. The bed was empty next to you, and you found yourself sitting up looking for Jacob. He wasnât in the bathroom, so you got up and padded out to where the seating area was. Sure enough there he was sitting with his head in his hand. âHead hurt that bad?â He groaned in reply. âCome back to bed and Iâll make it feel better.â
He lifted his head up and turned to you then, a serious look in his eyes. âYouâre not going to like this, prinsessa.â Well, if he was calling you princess again, it couldnât be all bad. You raised an eyebrow in query. âApparently, weâre married.â
âRight, you told me it was a joke.â You sat down on the couch beside him, noticing the scattered photos on the table. âSee, like I would ever get married by some Elvis doppelganger.â
âIt wasnât a joke.â He handed over what looked like a marriage license, a very authentic one at that. Leave it to Vegas to be thorough even in practical joking. âThereâs a seal on it and everything.â He was right there, but that would mean that this was real.
âOh, noâŠ.no, no, noâŠ.no. This isnât real. You saidâŠâ
âI know what I thought, but I wasnât one hundred percent sure. So I called.â There was a look of dread on his face. "The paperwork has already been filed at the courthouse. Yay for technology."
You knew he was trying to find a bit of humor in this mess, but frankly, you didn't find it funny at all. "Now what?"
"I was just trying to come up with that when you came in."
It hit you then, the solution to your problem. Maybe if you hadn't drunk enough alcohol to float a small ship last night it would've come to you sooner. "We'll just get an annulment."
"Is that possible, after last night and well this morning?"
"Hmm, I hadn't thought about that. Well, divorce it is." It wasn't ideal and you can't imagine having to explain it down the line, years from now, when you finally found someone you wanted to be tied down to, but it was the answer to your problem.
Jacob seemed to mull it over a bit, and it struck you that he might be religious and that this might not be an option after all. "I'll make a phone call," he finally told you and you breathed out a sigh of relief. It took the two of you several minutes to locate your phones but eventually, you found them. While Jacob called his lawyer, you checked your messages. There were several texts from the girls saying they were heading to breakfast, so you shot one off yourself. There was no way you were meeting them yet, so you cried off stating that you were still hungover from the day before. You were really going to need to patch things up with Kennedy after all this trip was about her. Hopefully, you could share a laugh with her about this whole mess.
A curse word muttered, or at least you thought it was, one in Swedish, brought you back to the situation at hand, and you looked at Jacob expectantly. "Apparently, it's not as easy as we think." He blew out a very frustrated sigh. "It's still doable, but it's going to take a lot longer than I expected."
 "How long?"
"A couple months after the papers are signed and filed, possibly more."
"What!?! You've got to be kidding me." That didn't make any sense at all. Shouldn't you be able to get a quickie divorce in a week when both parties were in agreement?
"Well, my citizenship is one factor, but apparently it just takes that kind of time."
"We got married in like, what...seconds. I don't understand." You started scrolling through your contacts looking for Aaron's number, then hit it and started to walk away.
 "Who are you calling?"
"A friend, who's also an attorney." Aaron worked for the same firm as you, only in the legal department. Surely he'd dealt with a celebrity or two that had this same problem.
You gave Aaron the condensed version of what happened, hoping that he'd come through and be your savior. "I hate to say it (Y/N), this Jacob's attorney is right. It's going to take you that long, if not longer." A growl of frustration was all you gave as an answer. "Cheer up babe, it could be worse."
 "Really? How so?"
"Well, you could've picked some homeless guy off the street. At least this one sounds decent, and it's not like you have to move to Canada or Sweden while you wait this out. Just go on about your business."
"I know, you're right. Thanks for your help, Aaron. I'll see you in a day or two." With that, you hung up the phone and headed back to Jacob.
"Looks like you didn't fare any better."
You sat heavily down on the couch. "No, not at all. Looks like we better start filing so we can get this done sooner than later." The look in Jacob's eye had you questioning things. You had thought you both were on the same page. Sure last night and this morning were fun, but what did you really know about each other. He couldn't really be thinking about staying married. When you couldn't take it any longer, you blurted out, "what?"
He shook his head. "Nothing." When you gave him that look that said you didn't believe him he finally fessed up. "You're wearing my shirt."
"Oh, sorry. I realized when I was on the phone I didn't have anything on. Hope you don't mind."
Jacob actually didn't mind at all, in fact, he kind of liked you in it, which was a new feeling. "No, not at all. Though I'll admit I like you without anything on as well."
It was hard to stop your eyes from rolling at his words especially at a time like this, but somehow you managed to. "While I appreciate the compliment, we should probably figure out what we're going to do." It was then that you looked at him, in only his boxers. His washboard abs calling out to your fingertips to just run over them, not to mention the strain of his cock against those briefs. You bit your lip just thinking about the things that you wanted to do to him and have him do to you. "And once that's done, then we can celebrate our divorce."
"I like the way you think." He scooted you closer on the couch so that your legs were draped over his. "I was thinking that while you were on the phone, that I can just have my lawyer handle things. He said he could have everything drawn up in a couple days since we don't have to split up a house or any belongs."
"That's fine. You can email me them and I'll just sign and send them back."
"He did mention one thing, though I'm loathed to bring it up." His hand was traveling up and down your shins making it hard to think, but you were intent upon getting this divorce started.
"Just tell me, after all, we are married, and married people shouldn't have secrets right?" I mean it was a bad joke, you'll admit that, but then if you couldn't laugh about this shamble of a mess you may start to cry.
"He wanted to make sure that you weren't after, well...you know."
Your eyebrows drew together as you tried to figure out his meaning, and then it hit you. "Oh my god! No, I'm not after any money. I would never and it's not like I don't have my own. I mean it's probably not anything close to what you make, but I do bring in quite a bit. Oh my god, I'm rambling. But no, no, I don't want a cent from you."
"I told him I thought that was the case, but he wanted me to be sure."
"Ok as long as you didn't think that."
Jacob was quick to tell you he didn't. "No, not at all. If I'm being honest, I think getting married was my idea, if I remember right."
"I wish I could remember more, though these pictures do bring back a few memories. I can't remember how we got these rings though. What is this cubic zirconia?"
"Umm, nope." His cheeks started to turn a delightful shade of red. "My credit card tells me it's a diamond."
"Oh Jacob," you exclaimed, taking off the ring. "This has to be a fortune. It's at least three carats." Quickly, you put the ring in his hand as if it was going to burn you. This fake marriage had caused enough damage that he didn't need to be on the hook for a ring that you'd never wear again.
"You know I can afford it right?"
"Of course, I know that. You just shouldn't have to pay for my mistake."
"It wasn't just your mistake." It was sweet of him to try and shoulder the blame, but if you wouldn't have had that tiff with Kennedy, then you wouldn't have gotten drunk ass stupid and married him. "We both did this, but there's no point in arguing about it. In a few short months, this marriage will be over."
 "True."
"Let me give him a quick call and get things started." You went to move but Jacob stilled you with his arm. The conversation was brief, his hand was inching further up your thighs during the entire call, sending delightful tingles all over your body. As soon as he hung up, that same hand reached your core. "So now that that's settled. What about that celebration? You know while we're still married and all."
You'd already said you weren't making it to brunch with everyone, so there was really no reason, not to indulge in what you wanted. Scooting up a little further onto his lap, you grabbed the back of his neck and drew his lips down to yours. One kiss melted into another and another until neither of you could take it any longer and Jacob took you there on the sofa. After that, it was round 4 in the shower.
You and Jacob exchanged numbers so that you could keep in touch while the divorce papers were being worked on by his lawyer. Since both of you were still in Vegas another night, you agreed to meet up a little later. Jacob claiming that it was safer to be with his 'wife' than out looking for another one.
It was an hour after leaving Jacob before you were knocking on Kennedyâs door, there to apologize for everything you said to her the day before. She opened the door, and without so much as a hello, grabbed your arm and hauled you inside. âYou have to tell me everything that happened?â How the hell did she know what had happened with Jacob. She was your best friend and all, but the last time you checked she was not a psychic. âI called Ryan and he told me those guys were from the Canucks, which happen to be his favorite hockey team in the world.â Somehow you really werenât shocked to find that out. Considering Ryan was from Seattle and an avid sports fan. âWhen Jade told me, you were hooking up with one of them, I died. I need to know everything.â
Oh, you werenât sure if she was ready to hear everything. âCan I first apologize for being an absolute asshole to you yesterday?â
âYou can, but thereâs no need. I know your feelings about marriage and how you think weâre rushing into it. I get that you were just looking out for me and only want me to be happy, and you know Iâll be happy with Ryan. I wasnât really mad at you, per se. It was more about smoothing things over with Gretchen. You know how she can be.â You did know how Gretchen was, which was why you felt even worse for saying what you did, when you did. â(Y/N), youâre the closest thing Iâll ever have to a sister, and nothing you say is ever going to change that.â
You enveloped her in a massive hug. There were times that you felt as if you and Kennedy were twins separated at birth and it was nice to know she felt that way too. âI really am sorry.â
âItâs already forgiven. Now, tell me everything that happened, or more importantly; can you get any of their autographs so I can take them back to Ryan?â
âOh, Iâm pretty sure I can get us seats to any game if he wants to go?â
Kennedy's face was filled with a mixture of shock and joy. âReally?â
âYeah, Iâm pretty sure they have a family suite or something for wives to sit in.â
This time you watched as that same shocked look turned into confusion. âIâm not following you?â
âWellâŠI kind of sort ofâŠâ Kennedy might be your best friend, who knew you better than yourself, but you still didnât know how to tell her this. It was always easiest to just rip the bandaid off, you supposed. âThat isâŠI got married last night.â
 âYOU WHAT?â
âLittle louder, Kenny I donât think they heard you at the Bellagio.â
âIâm sorry but you cannot just drop that bomb on me and expect me not to shout at you like you lost your damn mind.â Ok, she had a point. You had in fact lost your mind and your memory. Damn alcohol. âYou need to tell me everything right now.â
It took you a half hour to tell Kennedy all the details of what had happened with Jacob. She was stunned, to say the least. In the end, the only thing she wanted to know was if you were now her matron of honor instead of maid. Leave it to Kennedy to make you laugh at a time like this. She agreed to keep your marriage a secret from the other girls and you hoped that she didnât blurt it out like she did your little sexcapade with Superman, though she insisted that all of you meet up with Jacob and some of his teammates that night.
Like you, Jacob had only told one other person about what happened that night, his friend and teammate Chris; to everyone else, it just seemed as though you two were very interested in one another. At the end of the night, you were fumbling back into his suite, divesting him of every garment he had on, while he did the same to you. The next morning, you said your goodbyes but decided to keep in touch. Jacob promised you there would be tickets with your name on them anytime you wanted them in Vancouver and that heâd definitely see you when he was in LA. It was something you were definitely looking forward to. Despite the whole marriage debacle, or maybe because of it, you had to say that your trip to Las Vegas was one you were definitely going to remember for a lifetime.
Twenty-four hours later, when you were back in your own place, still trying to rehydrate from the past seventy-two hours, is when you received a phone call from Jacob. He called to make sure that you got back to Los Angeles and that everything was fine. It was actually kind of sweet. It was about sixteen hours after that, that you found yourself calling him after his first practice. One conversation rolled into the next and so on until you were talking at least twice a day. He talked about hockey and his life in Sweden as well as Vancouver, while you told him about LA and your job there. Family and friends were a topic that came up often, almost to a point that you felt as if his teammates were your friends as well. Sure, there were the occasional nights where phone sex ended up taking place, though you had to admit it was much better than some of the dates youâd gone on in the past. If one was on the outside looking in, they probably wouldnât understand why you were actually going through with the divorce. That thought didnât stop you from signing the documents and sending them back to Jacob though.
As the season started, Jacob still made time to talk to you every day. He even started to wonder if the circumstances had been different and the two of you had met in Vancouver or LA, would you be an actual couple at this point. He had to admit that your conversations were the highlight of his day. You were smart and funny with a wit about you that he enjoyed, and well to say that you were attractive was a complete understatement in his book. If Jacob was being honest with himself, you were his ideal woman.
Which is why when the divorce papers came in, almost a month after he met you, he simply threw them on his desk and vowed to take them to his attorney soon. Unfortunately, he forgot he had an extended road trip coming up, which made him forget about them completely. They only crossed his mind once while he was gone when youâd asked him if he got them. He tried to make a mental note to remember them when he got home, but not only did they slip his mind, but they also got buried in a mountain of mail on his desk.
The following week when he got home was a bit crazy. He missed a night in calling you when a game went into overtime. When he tried to the next day you didnât answer. Jacob tried not to give it too much thought or take it personally, though his mind told him differently. He knew that you had a big ad campaign coming up and that work had started to consume your life. He just hoped it wasnât with some hot male stripper or movie star.
When you didnât answer the phone the following three days, Jacob started to believe that what the two of you had or were starting to have, never really existed. He had resigned himself that heâd probably never see or hear from you again. Oh, how he was wrong. Â

What Happens In Vegas...Doesnât Always Stay There - Jacob Markstrom - Part 6
Word Count: 5,065
POV: Reader
Warning: Language, Talk of Smut, Pregnancy stuff
Notes: Sorry I meant to post Wednesday. Canât you believe itâs taken me this long to do it. Itâs been a hell of a week. So I apologize for not getting this out sooner. Last chapter these two were going great through the holidays. Then (Y/N) found the unsigned divorce papers. So here we go, how is (Y/N) going to react? As always feedback is welcome. Happy Reading!
Disclaimer:Â This fic takes place during the 2018-2019 season and during that season Jacobâs dad was still with him, so I will be mentioning him in this and the last chapter, along with his cancer. If that bothers you, please skip this and the previous chapter. I just felt it needed to be written into the story.
What Happens In VegasâŠDoesnât Always Stay There Masterlist
As Jacob pulled into the driveway, he was thankful to be home after the long ten-day road trip. He had missed you more than he thought possible. He knew it had to do with not being able to ring in the New Year with you. There was nothing he wanted more than to be kissing you at the stroke of midnight, but instead, he settled for seeing your face on his phone and you blowing him a kiss as the clock struck twelve.
The holidays had really made him see how much his feelings for you had grown. To put it plainly, he was in love with you. There was no denying it anymore, not even to himself. There had always been a connection between the two of you from the moment you met, but now, after these last couple of months with you, that bond had blossomed into full-blown love on his part. Mornings were better because he was waking up with you in his arms. Afternoon more fun as he got to see you laugh and smile throughout the day. And nights, well the nights could only be described as magical. You made Jacobâs life better and he knew it.
Which is why it had been so hard for him to keep those three little words from slipping out of his mouth recently. There was a moment at Christmas when heâd almost said it. Those eight letters almost came tumbling out, but heâd held them back too afraid that you werenât ready for his declaration. Now, after ten long days without you, he was no longer afraid. He was going to do it tonight, possibly after dinner; he wasnât quite sure. All he knew was that he could no longer hold them back.
He dropped his bag by the door, the house eerily silent. Normally, when he came in there would be music playing as you worked. Jacob had even caught you listening to Johnny Cash when you were alone. A feat he never thought heâd accomplish when he told you he was his favorite singer, though today there were no sounds of âRing Of Fireâ playing from anywhere in the house. âPrinsessa,â he called out, waiting to hear your voice. When you didnât answer, he tried again. âPrinsessa, Iâm home.â Still nothing.
Jacob started to search the house, starting with the bedroom. He assumed youâd fallen asleep, after reading in one of his books that pregnancy tended to tired women out more. When you werenât there, he checked the bathroom. Still no sign. He checked all the upstairs rooms before heading back down to check the office. Why he hadnât thought to go there first he wasnât sure, but it seemed a safe bet as he still hadnât convinced you to stop working. He knew your work was important to you, so he never pushed the issue, but he wanted you to know that you had options. As he opened the door to the office he wasnât prepared to see you sitting at his desk tears silently streaming down your face as you held on to some document. â(Y/N)?â he questioned but then stopped as he was walking towards you, realizing what the piece of paper was that you held in your hands. âKnulla,â a sick feeling rolled through his stomach as the word fuck passed from his lips.
Whether it was Jacob saying your name or to word fuck, you couldnât be sure. Either way, it brought you out of the haze that youâd been in since finding your unsigned divorce papers on his desk. âYou didnât sign these.â It wasnât a question, just a simple statement as you already knew the answer.
 âI can explain.â
âCan you? Because I thought we agreed that we were getting a divorce. I sent these back to you months ago.â You werenât sure why you were crying but you felt the tears streaming down your face, as you shook the papers out in front of you. âYou lied to me.â
Guilt was written all across Jacobâs face. âIt wasnât like that. I meant to sign them, I truly did. But the day they came in, I had a road trip and I just threw them on the desk. I was going to sign them when I came back, I swear.â
âSo, what youâre telling me is you forgot?â Your voice raised an octave and you didnât even realize it until you saw him wince. âFor the last five months, youâve forgotten to sign our divorce papers.â
âNo.â The one word slipped out so easily from his mouth and your eyes practically fell out of your head as you looked at him. âI was going to sign them the day you came, but then you told me about blueberry and wellâŠâ
âAnd well what Jacob? You just figured that because Iâm pregnant it wouldnât matter? As if my life hasnât been flipped upside down from that one night, YOU decide that we should just stay married.â Anger was coursing through your veins, that he would make all these decisions without even speaking to you. This was exactly why you didnât want to be married in the first place. You didnât need some man to tell you what to do and make all the decisions in your life.
Throwing the papers back on the desk, you got up and brushed past Jacob, heading upstairs. âWhere are you going?â Jacob yelled after you.
âTo pack.â You didnât turn around to see the stunned look on Jacobâs face or the hurt that followed after that. You just continued up the staircase, not stopping until you were in the bedroom.
âJesus, (Y/N),â His voice now raised at the same level yours was as he followed you. âThatâs what you do, isnât it? You run.â
âWhat the fuck does that mean?â
âIt means you donât stay and face your problems.â
You spun on your heel, turning to look him in the face before entering the closet. âYou,â you screeched pointing your finger at him. âKnow nothing about me.â
âI know the day we met, you fought with Kennedy, your best friend, and instead of taking the time and making up with her; you decided to get sloppy drunk and forget about your problems because it was easier to run away.â
You were shaking now you were so angry with him. âThatâs not what happened and you know it.â
âIt is what happened. I was there. Remember?â
âHow can I forget, apparently Iâm still married to you.â
Jacob threw his hands up in the air completely exasperated. âYes, (Y/N), yes weâre still married. Iâm sorry you find that so fucking horrible. Forgive me for thinking that maybe, just maybe, we could make what was a drunken mistake work for the sake of our child.â You were both breathing harshly right now. Your chest rising and falling with each intake of breath, as you tried to calm your nerves and let his words sink in.
âI never wanted this.â The words were spoken in a quieter voice, one you didnât really recognize as yours.
âNeither did I,â Jacob admitted. âYet here we are.â His eyes went straight to the growing baby inside you and you cringed.
You walked into the closet, grabbed one of your suitcases, and threw it on the bed. Inside were the forms you brought Jacob that first time you flew up to Vancouver. âYou can still walk away.â Pulling out the envelope you handed it to him.
âI told you before Iâm not signing that.â
âWell, I wish I could,â you sobbed out the words as tears rolled down your face.
âIs that what you want (Y/N)? Do you just want to walk away from our baby?â There was both hurt and anger in Jacobâs voice. No, he hadnât wanted this any more than you did, but now that he was faced with the challenge of being both husband and father, he had to admit he liked the idea. The fact that you didnât crushed him. âIf thatâs what you want, Iâll make it happen. You can be the one signing the papers and Iâll take full responsibility for OUR child. All you have to do is have it.â
You flinched as if his words slapped you across your face. âThatâs not what I want.â
âWhat do you want (Y/N)? Because Iâm trying here, I really am.â Jacob took one tentative step towards you, almost afraid that you would run; lowering his voice as if he was speaking to a scared child and maybe you were. âI know I shouldâve told you that I didnât sign the divorce papers. I admit I made a mistake.â His hand reached out to brush away the tears that were falling. âI just thought that we could be a real family, just you, me, and blueberry. Thatâs all I want.â
In reality thatâs all, you wanted too. Over the last couple of months, your feelings for Jacob had all but consumed you. You knew you loved him but were just too afraid to admit it; scared that he was only staying with you because of the baby. âI want that too,â you quietly admitted.
Jacob took both hands and cupped your face, forcing you to look him in the eyes. âIs it, (Y/N)?â
You stared directly back into the blue fathomless depths of his eyes. âYes.â
âYouâre sure?â Jacob was scared of your answer. He thought he was coming home to tell you that he was in love with you. Now, he was afraid that youâd turn tail and run if he said the words. He needed to get the two of you back on track before he started making declarations of love.
âI am. Iâm sorry. I didnât mean that I donât want our baby, because I do. I really do.â Jacob crushed you to his chest as you began to sob. You were on this roller coaster of emotions and werenât sure how to get off of it.
Jacob dropped kisses to your head as he held you while you cried. When you finally calmed, he pulled you back from his embrace, wiping your eyes with the pads of his thumbs. âLetâs sit and talk for a minute.â He guided you over to the edge of the bed, moving the suitcase off so you both could sit. âIf you really want us to be a family (Y/N), why were you so upset about the divorce papers?â You took a deep breath, trying to figure out the answer, but Jacob spoke again. âI can still sign them. You know that right?â
You nodded in agreement, but really you werenât sure if you wanted him to anymore. Hell, you werenât sure of anything at this point, but you needed to try and make some sense of what just happened. âI donât know whatâs wrong with me Jacob. I wish I could explain it to you.â
âWell, when I let a goal past, I start looking at it from the start of the play. So, letâs just start at the beginning and work from there.â
âI just wanted to clean your desk up, thinking that I would be helping you out.â A hollow laugh escaped you. âThatâs not true. The mess has been bugging me for weeks now.â He chuckled with you but otherwise didnât respond. âI didnât recognize the envelope at first just threw it in a pile, but then when I was sorting, I knew exactly what it was.â You could remember wondering why heâd kept the envelope you sent it in. âWhen I saw you didnât sign themâŠI donât know I was hurt that you lied but I was angry.â At the time it was like fifty different emotions overtook your body. âI just kept thinking that nothing was going as I planned. You know?â
Jacob nodded but remained silent as you continued to collect your thoughts. âIâve had my life planned out since I was like seventeen. Go to college, get my degree, and land my dream job before I was thirty. By then I figured Iâd have found Mister right and by thirty-two weâd be getting married then have a kid the following year. Iâm not even thirty and I havenât landed my dream job. I mean sure my job is great and my friends will tell you itâs glamorous but I still wanted more from it.â Just saying the words out loud now made everything make sense. âIt just felt like all my dreams were slipping away. I guess I wasnât really mad at you. I was moreâŠmad at myself, for letting that happen. Does that make sense?â
âIt does.â Jacob could remember when he was with the Panthers and he thought he was going to be the starting goalie, only to have them sign someone else. He ended up back in the AHL. Before he was traded here, to Vancouver, he felt like his NHL dreams were crushed. âBut you can still chase your dreams, prinsessa.â
âCan I? Weâre living here, not LA, and Iâm pregnant. Not that I donât want blueberry, because I do.â You felt a need to stress that after your words and actions earlier. âI just canât see how it can happen.â
Running his fingers through his hair, Jacob blew out a breath, knowing that his dreams were preventing you from yours. âIâm sorry, prinsessa.â
âItâs not your fault. I meanâŠwellâŠyou know what I mean.â
âYeah, I do.â Jacob took your hands in his then. âI know Iâm asking a lot for you and blueberry to be here so that I can live out my dream. All I can say is that it wonât be forever, prinsessa. I probably only have a few years left anyhow, maybe five, six, or seven if Iâm really lucky. After that, I promise weâll go wherever you want so you can live out your dreams. Iâll follow you anywhere.â
You sniffled trying to hold back more tears that threatened to flow. âYouâd do that, for me?â
âOf course. I only wish I could give you your dreams now.â Maybe it was his words or the look in his eyes, but suddenly your career didnât seem all that important anymore. It was almost as if a new dream was forming, and this one seemed to be rooted in your heart and not your head.
Somehow you managed to mouth out a âthank you,â before you got too caught up in the emotions that were swirling around inside you. Jacob's arms came around you drawing you close as he kissed your forehead, and you melted into him. Even though this wasnât how you saw your life going, right now there was no place else youâd rather be, though there was still one thing you needed to take care of. Pulling out of the embrace, you looked up at Jacob. âI donât want you to sign the divorce papers.â
He gazed at you curiously. Questioning whether or not you were actually serious. âYou donât?â
âWell, not unless you want to. I kind of like the idea of us trying to be a family, as unconventional as it seems.â
 âI do too, prinsessa.â
Jacobâs palm cradled your stomach where the baby was, and you placed your hand over the top of his. âJust you, me, and blueberry.â
âWell, technically itâs a mango now.â That made you smile. You knew he was reading anything he could get his hands on about becoming a father and you loved him for that.
âMango, huh? Is that why my pants arenât fitting anymore?â Your bump had really started to show the last couple of weeks, though bulky sweaters hid it from others' view.
âYou look beautiful, prinsessa.â He bent his head to kiss you, but right as he did you felt it. You had been feeling these little flutters the last week or so while Jacob was gone, not knowing if it was the baby kicking or not. But this, this was definitely a kick. âOh my god, was thatâŠâ
 âYou felt that too?â
âYeah, yeah I did.â You both were quiet for a moment wondering if the baby would kick again. It took but a moment, and then you felt it once more. âI think mango likes its new name.â As soon Jacob said the name, there was another kick.
âI think youâre right.â It was incredible to share this moment with him, and it occurred to you then that you couldnât wait to share all these little moments together.
Jacobâs hand continued to rest on your belly as the baby continued to kick a few more times. âSo, then weâre really doing this then?â He asked. âMarriage and all?â
âYeah, we really are, though Iâm not sure Iâm ready to change my name just yet.â
âThatâs ok, prinsessa you donât have to.â
âIâm sure Iâll want to someday,â you told him, which you honestly thought may happen sooner rather than later. âBut I am ready to be your wife if that makes any sense.â He arched an eyebrow at you and you realized how that sounded. âThatâs not what I meant,â you laughed at his insinuation at you both getting naked and putting the bed to good use.
âI know,â he teased back. âI think weâve already got that part of our marriage down pretty well, though Iâm always up for more practice.â It was your turn to flick your gaze towards his cock, which only made Jacob laugh harder. âLater, prinsessa.â He rose from the bed grabbing your hands to help you up as well. âFor now, how about you put on something fancy and we go out for dinner?â
âAre you asking me out on a date, husband?â
âI believe I am, wife. What do you say?â
âI say yes, as long as itâs a place that I can get some french fries.â He gave you a look as if to say McDonaldâs really wasnât what he had in mind. âDonât look at me. Itâs mango that wants them.â
 âWell, then fries it is.â
Despite your craving for fast food, Jacob took you to one of the nicest restaurants in town. Where you were pretty sure he called ahead and told the chef to make you french fries. Your little date night was exactly what the two of you needed.
Over the next couple of days, you rushed around the house making sure everything was perfect for when Jacobâs parents arrived. They were coming a few days before the father son trip, which would leave you alone with Jacobâs mom for about four days. You had to admit you were a bit worried. Though youâd spoken to her several times on the phone and through facetime, you were still leery that she wouldnât like you. Their flight arrived shortly after Jacobâs morning practice, so he left right from the rink to pick them up, while you paced the house waiting for them. You jumped off the couch the moment you heard the garage door open.
Jacob and his parents were laughing when they entered the house. âThere she is,â his mom said moving towards you.
âHi, Lena. Itâs so nice to finally meet you.â
You went to outstretch your hand, but Jacobâs mom went directly in for a hug. âPlease, weâre practically family dear.â Actually, you were family but no one knew that besides you and Jacob. After a long embrace, she held you out taking in your appearance and your baby bump. âHon ar vacker, Jacob. Du borde gifta dig med henne direkt.â You looked at Jacob for help, for while heâd started teaching you some Swedish you could barely say hello.
âMamma,â He said in a tone that was somewhat chiding and you didnât know if he was reprimanding her for speaking her native language or for what sheâd actually said. âShe said that you were beautiful.â Jacob interpreted for you, though left out the part where his mom had said he should marry you right away.
âYes, Iâm sorry.â Lena apologized, while Jacobâs dad hugged you. âYouâre just glowing, though I have no doubt thatâs just you and not my grandbaby in there.â
Heat rose to your cheeks at both her compliment and the mention of the baby. You were almost twenty weeks and under normal circumstances, this shouldnât be the first time you were meeting the father of your childâs parents. âCome sit down,â you ushered everyone into the living room. âHow was your flight? Can I get you something to drink? I have some snacks made up? Or did you want to go out for lunch?â You were probably overdoing it a bit but you really wanted them to like you.
Jacob came up behind you then. His hands going to your shoulders, to rub out some of the tension he knew you were feeling. âRelax, prinsessa,â he whispered in your ear before kissing your temple. âThey love you already.â
âNothing right now,â Jacobâs dad told you.
âYes, just come sit down and chat.â Lena patted the seat beside her on the sofa for you to take. âHow are you feeling?â
âPretty good actually. The morning sickness is pretty much gone and actually wasnât all that bad, thanks to your son.â This had them both giving you a questioning look. âHe had saltine crackers everywhere in this place for me. Youâll probably find some somewhere, Iâm sure.â Just then the topic of conversation made its presence known to you with a little kick. Your hand going immediately to your belly.
âMay I?â Lena asked, to which you simply nodded and placed her hand where the baby was kicking. âOh,â she remarked when she felt it. âI remember Jacob doing the same thing to me when I was pregnant with him, and always at the worst time.â
That little conversation led to Lena and Anders giving you more and more information about Jacob as a child. You loved every second of it, though you could tell some stories made Jacob uncomfortable. However, those were usually the best. Later that night, you all went out for dinner, where the stories continued. You were surprised that Jacob kept your marriage a secret from his parents, but didnât question it, as you werenât completely ready to answer questions about how it all went down. Surprisingly, his parents didnât ask either. The next evening you all sat in the family suite at the arena to cheer Jacob on, before he and Anders left for the father son trip.
You werenât sure why you were worried about spending time alone with Lena, for she made you feel so at ease. Youâd taken off work formally, even though you were working from home, so that the two of you could have some time together. There were shopping trips during the day, where the focus was on the baby. Buying cute little outfits and getting her opinion on what crib she thought would look best in the babyâs room. During the evenings, she taught you how to make some of Jacobâs favorite Swedish dishes. You felt somewhat bad that he was missing out on his momâs home cooking but she made enough to stock your freezer for when he was home.
On the last night that it was just the two of you, you sat down and watched the game. It was the first intermission and the announcers were discussing the father son trip. Lena reached over and grabbed your hand. âThereâs something I want to talk to you about my dear.â She sounded serious and that concerned you. Nodding, with a simple ok, you let her continue. âMy son is going to need you over the next few days Iâm sure.â You didnât understand what she meant by that, but thankfully she went on to explain. âYou see Anders has been diagnosed with cancer. Heâs going to tell Jacob tonight after the game.â
âOh, Lena, Iâm so sorry.â You quickly hugged her as you saw tears forming in her eyes; yours doing the same.
The two of you stayed like that for a bit, before she pulled back. âThank you, sweetheart. I have no doubt my husband will beat this, but I wanted you to be prepared for Jacobâs reaction.â
âThank you for confiding in me. Iâll be here for Jacob in any way that I can.â
âI know you will. I can tell already how much you love my boy, and it warms my heart to know this.â A pang of guilt hit you deep in the gut for not telling Lena the truth about your marriage, but there was one thing that you could assure her of.
âI do love your son very much, though I havenât had the courage to tell him.â
âWell, you shouldnât be afraid. Itâs written all over his face how much he loves you. Iâve never seen him happier and itâs not just the baby my dear.â
You certainly hoped she was right and while it gave you a little flicker of hope to think that he might love you back; you still werenât ready to profess your love. âThatâs so good to hear. This is just all soâŠwell, sudden and new.â
Lena patted your hand. âI know it is dear, but you two seem to be handling everything well. I know it meant the world to him that you moved here, and now with everything going on with Anders Iâm glad Jacob will have you to lean on.â
 âIâll be here for him.â
The two of you talked some more than headed off to bed. When morning came you putzed around the house, cooking up some of Jacobâs favorites for when the boys would arrive home. Youâd thought heâd need some comfort food after hearing the news about his father. It was later in the afternoon when they arrived home. Jacob kissing you as soon as he walked in the door and holding you tight. You expected there to be some talk about his fatherâs condition but no one mentioned a word all evening.
It wasnât until you were alone getting ready for bed that you broached the subject. âAre you ok?â You asked, pulling back the comforter before crawling under the sheets. It was a vague question, but you knew he would understand what you meant.
âSo, my mother told you then?â
âShe did. Do you want to talk about it?â
He got under the covers with you, laying flat on his back staring up at the ceiling. You rolled onto your side to better gauge his reaction. âYes and no.â He blew out a breath and you could see him struggling to hold back the tears. You waited, placing your hand on his chest and just giving him time. âHe looks so good right now.â You hummed your agreement, remaining silent. âHeâs going to start treatment as soon as they go back. He says heâll beat it.â
When Jacob didnât say anything for a moment, you decided to take the cue and talk. âIâm sure he will. All we can do is give him our love and support and let him know weâll be with him every step of the way.â There was a sniffle and you saw him swipe at his right eye. It tore at your heart to see him in pain like this. âI made a phone call to the doctor today.â
His head turned quickly and you feared heâd get whiplash. âIs something wrong with the baby?â
âNo, no. Everything is fine.â You certainly hadnât meant to scare him, but you saw him visibly relax once he knew everything was ok. âI called to see how soon weâd be able to fly after the babyâs born.â There was still a concerned look on Jacobâs face as if he couldnât figure out why you would want to fly somewhere after giving birth. âShe said as long as everything is good and mango is full term, we could leave about four weeks after he or she is born.â
Jacob rolled onto his side, facing you now as he still wasnât following where the conversation was leading. âWhere do you plan on going?â
âI thought we could go to Sweden for the summer, maybe be with your mom and dad for as long as you can with training.â
His eyes started to water as he fully comprehended what you were saying. âBut what about your job and your family seeing the baby?â
âMy family can fly up after mango is born, and stay for a week, maybe help me pack. As for work,â you shrugged, it would either be there or it wouldnât when you got back, but Jacob didnât need to know that. Some things were more important, you were coming to realize. âI have maternity and vacation that should be enough until we head back.â
âYouâd really do this for me, (Y/N)?â
âI would, but Jacob, Iâm doing this for us. Our family needs us in Sweden, so thatâs where weâll be.â
Jacob was overwhelmed with emotions. He couldnât believe what you were saying and willing to do for him. It was all too much, and he just let the tears freely flow. He scooted over, wrapping his arms around you. âThank you, prinsessa. IâŠIâŠ,â He wanted to tell you right at that moment that he loved you so much, but somehow it just didnât feel like the right time, so instead he found himself saying, âI canât tell you how much it means to me.â He held you as tightly as possible, letting his emotions take over him, as he sobbed in your arms.
You hugged Jacob back tighter in your arms while he cried, reassuring him that everything would be alright. At that moment there was so much that you wanted to say to him, that youâd be there for him, that you were in this together, and most of all that you loved him. Instead, you simply held him until his breathing evened out and you felt him relax, falling fast asleep. There would be other times for you to say those three little words that seemed to be bubbling to the surface. Tonight was just about being there for Jacob and you planned on being there not only now but forever if he let you.

Notes: Well Iâm finally at home for a night and I definitely owe you guys a story. So since I had the next part of this one ready, I dediced to post it. Letâs see what happens now, though I think some of you have an idea. As always feedback is welcome. Happy Reading!
What Happens In VegasâŠDoesnât Always Stay There Masterlist
It had been almost seven weeks since Jacob met you. For six of those, heâd talked to you every day, sometimes two and three times. It was just these last few days that you wouldnât answer his calls or texts. Jacob was confused, to put it mildly. He wracked his brain trying to recall the last couple of conversations that youâd had, wondering if heâd said or did something to anger you, but nothing came to mind. In Jacobâs mind, he thought the two of you were actually starting something. Sure, it had been one of the most peculiar beginnings to a relationship ever, but the last several weeks' things had been nice, better than nice actually. He thought the two of you might have a chance at a real relationship. Of course, the distance between you played a part, but he thought the two of you could work that out; apparently, he was wrong.
Jacob knew the moment he stepped poolside, that you were something special. The longer he talked to you the more he knew heâd been right. If he was being honest, it was probably one of the reasons he suggested marrying you, even though that marriage would be over soon. Just like lightning striking in the middle of a storm, it hit Jacob then why you were pissed. Heâd forgotten to sign the divorce papers. Heâd had them for well over two weeks now. Rushing into the office, he started rifling through all the crap on his desk looking for the manila envelope that youâd mailed it to him in. He was just in the process of opening it when the front doorbell rang, so back on the desk it went, as he headed to the door to answer it.
Jacob was shocked to see you standing there. â(Y/N), what are you doing here?â He didnât mean for that to come out the way it did. It took him a moment to recover before taking you in. There were dark circles under your eyes that made it look like you hadnât slept in days, not to mention how puffy they looked as if youâd been crying. Jacob wanted nothing more than to take you in his arms and make whatever seemed to be causing you this much pain go away.
âHey,â you mumbled out weakly. âCan I come in?â
âOf course.â He stepped aside, letting you into his home. It was your typical bachelor pad. Walls stark and devoid of any real character that you knew Jacob possessed. He led you over to the couch in the living room, an enormous piece of furniture designed for his large frame. It almost seemed to swallow you whole. â(Y/N) is everything ok?â There was concern in his eyes and you knew he was probably questioning your presence there after youâd been radio silent the last few days.
âNo.â The one-word answer was hard to push out without tears falling down your eyes. You could see how Jacobâs fingers itched to touch you and honestly thatâs all you wanted right now, for him to just take you in his arms and somehow have all the answers, but he had to know the problem first. You took a deep breath trying to steel yourself for what you needed to tell him. âJacob, I donât know how to tell you this.â At that moment Jacob grabbed your hands and engulfed them in his giving you his support in just that simple touch. It gave you enough courage to blurt out the last part. âIâm pregnant.â
You felt his hands slip a bit on yours at the shock of the news; his mouth working trying to form a sentence yet nothing coming out. It took a minute but he finally found his words. âWow, umâŠokâŠI hate to ask thisâŠâ
This was the part you knew was coming, expected it really and you didnât blame him at all. So, to spare him, you found yourself answering the unspoken question. âItâs yours.â He nodded but you felt the need to explain more. âI havenât been with anyone since Vegas, and even before that, well, work was really busy, andâŠwell letâs just say it had been over a month or longer.â
âYou donât have to say anymore, (Y/N). I believe you.â His hands tightened on yours, the shock of everything starting to wear off. âPlus, we didnât use protection.â It was something you didnât give much thought to when you were with Jacob, which was odd because youâd always been extra cautious with hookups, but then everything with Jacob was different than anyone else. âDo youâŠdo you know what you want to do?â
This time you couldnât stop the tears from flowing. âI tried, Jacob. I really did.â He looked confused, unsure of what you meant by that. âI went to get an abortion yesterday.â He blinked hard but other than that showed no expression. âI was sitting there on the damn table in a gown just waiting for the doctor to come in and then I looked around. There was this damn chart that showed what the size of your baby is every week compared to fruit of all things. Itâs a blueberry by the way. A damn cute little blueberry, like the kind they put in muffins and stuff.â Why it had to be an adorable little fruit like that you didnât know. Why couldnât it be honeydew? You hated that fruit. Well maybe not hate, but it wasnât your favorite thatâs for sure. âAnyhow, I was just staring at that poster and looking at each week and I donât know. I couldnât breathe.â Kind of like now, even telling him brought back all those feelings. âI started thinking about the doctor telling me that I could hear the heartbeat next week when she did the ultrasound, and Iâm not sure what happened, but I couldnât go through with it; so, I left. Iâm so sorry.â
You werenât quite sure if you were apologizing to him or yourself. This was something you didnât want, at least not right now, or at least thatâs what you always thought. Now, you didnât know what you wanted anymore. You took a deep breath, composing yourself. âI booked a flight once I got home. I couldnât tell you this over the phone or text. You deserved to hear it in person.â
 âThank you for that.â
You slipped your hands out of his, distancing yourself from him for this next part, but also pulling out the envelope you brought. âIâm going to keep the baby.â As if that part wasnât obvious, but you somehow felt it needed to be said. âI had Aaron draw up some papers. They absolve you from any obligations to the child both financially and emotionally. All you have to do is sign them. You wonât even have to be listed on the birth certificate.â He took the envelope from your hands, glancing briefly at the contents inside. âIâm sure youâll want to have your lawyer look it over.â
Jacob didnât know what to think. Ten minutes ago, he was wondering if you were ever going to speak to him again and now you were telling him you were having his child. A child you apparently didnât want him to be a part of. But did he even want a baby? He certainly hadnât wanted a wife, yet here he was still married to you. He should come clean right now and tell you that he hadnât signed the papers yet. That some indescribable feeling had taken over him, and he wasnât entirely sure he wanted to sign them anymore. And now, well, now he felt like he shouldnât sign them. Maybe this was all some force in the universe steering his life in a different direction; a route he hadnât planned on taking until later, yet here he was on it. âAnd what if I donât want to sign them?â
Well, that certainly wasnât what you thought heâd say. You didnât think this was something either of you wanted, but you couldnât be certain. It wasnât like the two of you had had this long talk about where you saw your life in five years. Hell, this wasnât where you saw your life in five months, but here you were, on the verge of being divorced with a baby on the way. âWell, I guess weâll need to figure things out then.â
Jacob got up and started to wander around the living room. You werenât sure if he was trying to decide whether or not he wanted to sign the papers or how he was going to be part of his childâs life. âDo you want a drink or something? I need a drink. Oh shit, you canât drink, can you?â
âItâs not advised, but please donât let that stop you. Though if you have a water that would be great.â He headed towards the kitchen, which gave you a chance to just breathe. The hardest part was telling him, all the rest youâd figure out. He was back quicker than you expected, a bottle of water in each hand. He handed one over to you and sat back down beside you. âYou know, you can think about this if you want. You donât have to sign or not sign them right now.â
He nodded and pursued his lips before answering, though not how you expected. âHow long are you here for?â
âA few days. Thereâs a movie being filmed not far from here. I offered to drop off some of the specs for the campaign, as long as I was here, but it also gives you some time to make a decision.â
âI already have. I want to be in our babyâs life.â You donât know why but it felt like a thousand pounds had been lifted off your chest. It was nice to know that you werenât in this alone. âBut thereâs a lot to figure out.â
 âYes, there is.â
â(Y/N), this is going to sound crazy, but I want you to move here.â
Pregnancy did weird things to the body and maybe your hearing things was one of them because you were pretty sure Jacob had just said he wanted you to move to Vancouver. âIâm sorry, you want me to move here, as in Vancouver?â
âWell, yeah but I want you to move in here, like in my house.â
He seemed dead serious and you werenât sure how to take his suggestion or him at the moment. âBut my life and my home are in LA. Thatâs where my job is.â Couldnât he see that?
âI know, but moving here just makes sense. Iâll be able to help you then, not just after the baby is born but before as well. I have plenty of room in this house. There are three spare bedrooms; we can turn one into a nursery for the baby.â
How could go from finding out you were pregnant to a full out plan of attack in less than a half-hour? God, it took you a day to wrap your head around it when you found out and then another to make the decision about the abortion, and even then you still didnât figure out you wanted to keep the baby until you were sitting in the doctorâs office. Jacob seemed to be processing everything much better than you were.
âI donât know Jacob, just because weâre having this baby together doesnât mean we have to live together.â Everything with Jacob was still in this weird transition phase like you went from being wildly attracted to each other, to being married, to getting a divorce, to now having a baby, and now he wanted you to live together under the same roof. You didnât even know if the two of you would get along that great. Sure, the sex was amazing, well really better than amazing if that was even a thing, and you seemed to get along if your conversations over the last several weeks were any indication, but to live together; that could just be a whole other problem altogether.
âLook I know itâs a lot to ask and believe me if I could, Iâd be willing to move to LA. Itâs not like I can just ask to be traded there though. But I donât want you to have to do this on your own.â It was awfully sweet of him to want to be there for you, and not just the baby. Youâd just assumed that heâd want to see the baby on some weekends and maybe an extended time during the summer when he was off. âYou donât realize this yet, but thereâs going to be a whole hockey family here for you. Thatâs just the way it is in this sport.â He grasped your hands then, the gesture one pleading in and of itself for you to see his side of things. âWe can do this (Y/N), together.â
Together, it sounded so nice. You knew that if he had decided to sign the papers that being a single mom was going to be tough, but now knowing that he wanted to be there every step of the way eased some of the burden you felt. It was just hard to think about giving up the life youâd built for yourself in LA. You were already giving up so much as it was. âI get what youâre asking, I really do. I justâŠitâs a lot.â His thumb started to run back and forth across your knuckles, softly urging you to his side without him even knowing it. âCan I think about it?â
 âOf course.â
âI mean we donât have to decide everything tonight.â
âNo, we donât.â He smiled at you. The same one he gave you when youâd been in Vegas. It gave you butterflies in your stomach back then as it did now. âHow are you feeling?â
âPretty good, I get a little queasy now and then; mostly when Iâm hungry. Iâve learned to carry crackers with me everywhere.â
âWell, I could make you something or we could order.â The fact that he even offered scored points in your book and was definitely a check on his side of the box for moving to Vancouver, and you were kind of hungry.
âI mean, I havenât really eaten.â He gave you a disapproving stare and you felt the need to justify why you hadnât. âI was too nervous before.â
âWell, then letâs get you something to eat.â Jacob led you out to the kitchen, where he took out some chicken along with some vegetables to stick in the oven. The two of you worked side by side getting dinner ready. You were midway chopping up some zucchini when Jacob brought the baby back up again. âYou mentioned something about the heartbeat. Were you able to hear it?â
âI have to schedule an ultrasound when I get back but they said that I should be able to.â
âMmm.â You werenât exactly sure what that little hum meant. Was that a good hum, or a bad one? You stayed silent waiting for him to say more. âDo you think you could record it for me?â
Why did your heart just flutter when he asked that? Was it because he wanted to hear the baby or was it because you were realizing how much he would be missing when you went back to LA? âI will,â you finally told him, but then had an even better idea. âThough you know, Iâm here for four more days. Maybe we could find a doctor that would be able to do it while Iâm here.â
His face lit up, like a little boy on Christmas morning. âYou would do that?â
âYeah. If we can find a doctor to squeeze us in.â
âIâll take care of it.â He pulled out his phone, you werenât sure if he was searching for gynecologists or texting someone, either way, it was adorable how he just jumped in at the first mention of being a part of this whole pregnancy. Again, he was showing you just how nice it would be to share this with him. Ten minutes later he had an appointment all set for you in two days.
During dinner you talked about how you had found out you were pregnant, telling him the story of how Kennedy was the one to point out your nausea wasnât normal and that you should take a pregnancy test. She was the only one that knew you were pregnant. You swore her to secrecy, hoping that she wouldnât spill the beans this time like she had about a certain movie star. Surprisingly, he wanted to know everything, though there wasnât too much to tell. By the time you got the mess cleaned up from dinner, you were starting to feel the weariness of the day.
âI think Iâm going to head over to the hotel. I still need to check in. Hopefully, Iâll be able to sleep better tonight, now that you finally know.â
âStay.â The word fell out of Jacobâs mouth in almost an authoritative manner, which belied the puppy dog look on his face. He cleared his throat and tried again. âI mean you could stay here if you wanted. Sort of like a tryout or something.â
âYou mean trial run?â Leave it to his athletic side to call it a tryout. It made you laugh.
âYeah. We could just take the next few days and see how we do together.â It wasnât a bad idea. âYou call and cancel the hotel and Iâll go grab your bag from the car.â He was halfway to the door before you actually agreed.
As Jacob went outside, he contemplated with himself as to where he should put your things. Did he just bring your luggage to his room or should he give you one of the spare rooms? Despite the fact you were carrying his child, his body still wanted you as much, if not more, than when you were in Vegas. He just wasnât sure where you saw things going.
You were just hanging up the phone when he walked back into the house and unbeknownst to him, you were wondering the same thing. However, your head kept telling you that if the two of you were going to make this work, you needed to keep things out of the bedroom, at least for now. Jacob must have had the same thought as you, for when he came in, he said, âHere, Iâll show you where the spare bedroom is.â The room was spacious but again, it wasnât that homey, and occurred to you that if you decided to live here, youâd definitely need to make some changes. âDid you maybe wanna watch a movie or something, or are you tired?â
You could see he was struggling in this unchartered territory as much as you were, and while you were exhausted; you still wanted to spend time with him, to see if moving to Vancouver was even an option. âIâd love to watch a movie. Do you mind if I change first?â
âNo, not at all.â He fidgeted with the back of his neck a bit, before turning to leave. âIâll meet you back downstairs.â
You really wanted to take a hot shower and crawl into bed, but instead, you opted for just washing up quickly and slipping on a pair of pajamas youâd brought. It was still warm in LA, though the nights were a bit cooler. All you brought to sleep in were a couple pairs of shorts and some comfy t-shirts, thinking that youâd be in a hotel room by yourself. Now, you were wishing that youâd thought about it a little more and packed something a little warmer, if not more modest. Why you cared, you werenât sure, considering this man had seen you completely naked several times.
Jacob had changed into some sweats by the time you got downstairs. He had bottles of water for you both along with a pack of crackers laying on the coffee table, and you had to admit your heart melted a little bit when you saw that. âSo, what kind of movies do you like? I remember you saying no horror.â
âWe donât have to watch a movie. I know the Bruins are playing tonight and that you play them tomorrow. Why donât you just turn the game on?â He looked surprised that you knew his schedule, but you did a deep dive finding out as much information as you could once you found out you were pregnant. He was going to be the baby's father, even if he would've decided not to be in your child's life, though now that he decided he wanted to be, the information was even more useful.
âAre you sure?â You nodded giving him the go-ahead to watch his opponentsâ play. âSpeaking of that, would you be interested in going to the game? I mean I know someone who could get you a ticket on short notice?â He looked so adorable when he asked you couldnât tell him no.
âIâd love to.â Youâd watched very few hockey games live, though ever since Las Vegas, youâd been following the Canucks, well, more like Jacob. It would be fun to see him in action.
âGreat, I can leave you a ticket or have Erikâs fiancĂ© come and take you. Youâll love her.â
Jacob really wanted you to jump in with both feet, didnât he? You werenât quite sure if you were ready to meet all his friends and teammates, but you supposed that if you moved here this would be a part of your life. âIf she wouldnât mind that would be great.â
 âIâll text him now.â
âJacob,â you stopped him, just by saying his name. âCan we keep the baby our secret for now? I know Kennedy knows and I donât expect you to keep it to yourself, but I donât want to broadcast it either. At least until we know what weâre doing.â
He took your hand in his, the gesture reassuring. âYeah (Y/N), we can do that.â
It wasnât long before your attire got the best of you and you found yourself tucking your feet underneath you on the couch trying to keep them warm. You thought that Jacob was fully absorbed in the game, but he caught the subtle movement. âAre you cold?â
 âA little.â
He scooted your closer to him, his large frame wrapping around yours. You werenât sure if it was his body heat or him just holding you, but it was definitely warmer in seconds, though Jacob still covered you with a throw blanket that was on the couch. âBetter?â
âMuch.â It wasnât long before you found yourself dozing off. The stress of the day and travel wearing on you. Your head fell softly against his shoulder and you sighed in contentment.
Jacob felt your body relax against him and he savored the feel of it. Heâd honestly missed this closeness to another person in a completely non-sexual way and having you in his arms just felt right. He shouldâve been paying attention to the game, scouting out his opponents but instead all he could do was watch you, even before you fell asleep. His fingers were idly stroking your bare arm under the blanket, slowly inching their way down to your wrist. He didnât realize theyâd made their way to your midsection until they were there; just lightly caressing you, scared he would wake you, but he had to touch you there. Heâd been dying to all night but been afraid to ask as if it was almost an invasion of your privacy even though you were carrying his child. His child. The thought both terrified him and thrilled him. Jacob always wanted kids; knew that someday he would have them. He just didnât think it would be this soon. He always assumed that heâd start his family after hockey was over, but here he was with a wife and child on the way. It was something he hadnât bargained for and never saw coming. Apparently, what happened in Vegas was a lot more than he gambled on.

What Happens In Vegas...Doesnât Always Stay There - Jacob Markstrom - Part 5
Word Count: 6,353
POV: Reader
Warning: Language, Smut, NSFW, Pregnancy stuff
Notes:Â Sorry I meant to post this last night, but that game left me barely able to function. As such, you are getting this today. This fic takes place during the 2018-2019 season and during that season Jacobâs dad was still with him, so I will be mentioning him in this and the next chapter, along with his cancer. If that bothers you, please skip this and the next chapter. I just felt that it needed to be written into the story. As always feedback is welcome. Happy Reading!
What Happens In VegasâŠDoesnât Always Stay There Masterlist
It took three weeks back in LA to get everything taken care of before the move to Vancouver. Work thankfully wasn't a problem. With more and more movies and television shows being filmed in Canada, the firm liked the idea of having someone closer. Most of your work could be done remotely anyhow and you could just video chat conference calls or anything else you needed. It ended up being a win for everyone.
By the time you could actually move in, Jacob was on the tail end of a ten-day road trip. He'd insisted on hiring you a moving company, even though you said you could handle it, not that he thought you couldn't; he just felt you didn't need the added stress. Though packing wasn't the stressful part. It was the unpacking and not knowing where to put things with Jacob not being there that was causing your anxiety to rise. You felt like you were invading his home. Most of your furniture you kept in storage, but you still had a few things you wanted to take with you, yet you didn't know where to have the movers place it. Then there were your clothes. Jacob had a gorgeous master bedroom, with a closet to die for, but all his things were in it. You were unsure if you should move them to make room for yours or just take up the closet in the spare room. Which while spacious, was nowhere near as nice as the one in Jacob's room. Everything would've been much easier had he been here.
In the end, you split everything up, putting half your stuff in his closet and half in the other room. You figured the two of you would be doing a lot of compromising and this would just be one of them. You had his office moved around to accommodate your work desk, since you'd be working a lot from home, and you had to wonder how often he came in here, as the pile of papers on his desk looked like the size of Mount Fuji, volcanic eruption and all. You were tempted to straighten it out for him, but opted not to, not wanting to invade his privacy.
You were just putting away the last of your stuff when you heard Jacob walk through the door. "Prinsessa, I'm home." He'd taken to calling you his Swedish princess lately and you had to admit you didn't hate it.
"In the bedroom," you hollered back. It was late in the evening, too late for you to be up, but you wanted to see Jacob and make sure everything you'd done so far was fine with him.
"I was surprised to see all the lights on when I pulled up. Couldn't you sleep?"
"I just wanted to finish putting away a few things." He dropped his bag on the floor and came over to you, wrapping you up in his arms and dropping a few kisses to your lips.
"I missed you these last couple of weeks." It was weird but you'd missed him as well. You had talked every day, sometimes several times, but those few days that you'd spent in Vancouver, had just brought a new closeness to this relationship. If a relationship was what you could call it. He did refer to you as his girlfriend, but the way you two had gotten here was definitely the road less traveled.
You slid your arms up his chest, savoring the feel of his well-toned muscles there. "Funny...I didn't miss you at all." You had a hard time keeping a straight face.
"Really?" Jacob asked. There was this twinkle in his eyes, right before his hands slid under your ass and he lifted you on him. You didn't even have a chance to wrap your legs around him, though he held you with ease. "Maybe I need to do a better job at leaving you some reminders for next time." His mouth went to the crook of your neck where he sucked on you and gave you little love bites. You were pretty sure there were going to be marks there.
"And here this whole time I thought they called you Marky because of your last name," you teased, yet moved your head to the side to give him greater access.
"Oh, I plan on leaving more than just this one." He carried you over to the bed, where he gingerly lowered you down. You loved how he could be slightly rough with you one minute and then next so gentle.  Admittedly, you'd like to see a little bit of his rough side, but hopefully, that would come with time.
His hands slid under your shirt, along your sides; the callousness of them rough yet the touch tender, making you shiver. "No bra?" he asked, eyebrows shooting up with delight as he skimmed along the undersides, before cupping each breast.
"I opted out of it a while ago." Though your body hadn't changed much in these last ten weeks, you did notice your breasts were more sensitive and sometimes you just couldn't stand having them confined longer than necessary. Tonight happened to be one of those times.
"Well if it's an option, you don't ever have to wear it again." There was a devilish look in his eyes. "I like this ease of access." He was rolling your nipples between his thumb and index finger, eliciting moans out of you so that you had no chance to answer. Scrunching your shirt up, he dipped his head down to lavish attention on those same nipples he had been tweaking. Your body squirmed, as he swirled his tongue around it before sucking on it gently. He wedged his thigh between your legs and you found your body grinding against it while he played with first one nipple and then the other. "Oh prinsessa, I think you did miss me."
There was no denying that your body missed this. Craved was more like it. You had a feeling there would never be a time that you didn't want him. What was surprising was the sense of loss that came with just simple day-to-day actions, like brushing your teeth together and sharing a meal. Those were the things you'd found yourself longing for these last few weeks.
Jacob started to travel down your body. Trailing kisses as he went, yet stopping to whisper something in Swedish to the baby. He didn't spend long there, and before you could ask what he said; he was pulling your sweats and panties down. "Du gor mig galen med hur vat du ar." (you drive me crazy with how wet you are) You were going to have to start picking up Swedish or something in your spare time, as he seemed to always revert to his native language in the heat of the moment. There was no time to ask what he said, as he dove right into your pussy. Licking a stripe right up to your clit causing your hips to lift off the bed.
You sucked in a breath when he repeated the action again, your body on fire like never before. When he flicked his tongue over your clit, you were gone. The orgasm hitting you hard and fast like never before. "Fuck," you screamed out, as your body trembled and spasmed.
Jacob worked you through it, somewhat astonished with how little he had done to make you cum so quickly. Once, you finally stopped shaking he picked his head up from between your legs. "Are you alright, prinsessa?"
"Yes," you sighed in a state of bliss, not knowing if it was the pregnancy or the fact that you hadn't seen Jacob in three weeks that made you climax like that.
You lay there panting, still catching your breath. "Shall we do that again?" The smirk on Jacob's face had you laughing, but after a long day of unpacking, you knew your body wouldn't last long.
"Do that and I may be done for the rest of the night." You were only half teasing but he chuckled and made his way back up your body, taking the hint.
"Rather have this," Jacob flexed his hips into you and moaned out into the room again. He was out of his boxers in no time. Cupping his cock in his hand, then guiding it into you. "God, prinsessa, you always feel like heaven."
"Mmm," was all you could answer back as he was buried deep in you, for he felt like heaven as well. When he finally started to move it felt like every nerve in your body was alive and tingling. With each thrust he took you to new heights you never knew were possible. "Oh Jacob," you moaned. "Don't stop...please...yes...oh god..."
"Yeah, you like that prinsessa?" A smirk of satisfaction crossing his lips at knowing he was bringing you such exquisite pleasure. "Does my cock make you feel good?" He was pounding into you and you didn't know how much longer you were going to be able to hold on for. He must have felt the small flutter your pussy gave, as the first tremors of orgasm began. "Cum for me (Y/N)." You shattered at his words, climaxing once again with a force you never felt but just minutes ago. "Fuck, ya." He groaned out, spilling inside you as his orgasm hit as well.
Your body was still quaking as he rolled you both onto your sides. His cock going flaccid yet still inside you. "God, you're beautiful," Jacob whispered those words, as he pushed strands of hair out of your face, before dropping kisses to your nose and lips. "If this is what happens when I get home from a road trip, I can't wait to go on another one."
"Stop," you said playfully swatting at his chest.
"I'm just teasing, prinsessa, though I do like coming home to you here. I think this will be good for us." You hoped it would, considering that you both had a lot banking on this working out. If this were to go south, then what would you do? Move back to LA with the baby? Stay here so that Jacob could be a part-time dad? There were so many questions swirling around in your brain, but when Jacob softly took his thumb to rub your cheek they all seemed to evaporate. "I didn't get to ask how you're feeling today?"
"I'm good, well, we're good. That's three whole days without morning sickness." It was small, but it was progress. Hopefully, you were on the upswing of that as you went into your eleventh week.
"Good, I can't see how that's good for either one of you." You couldn't either, even though everything you read and everyone you talked to, said it was normal. "When you were moving in did you figure out which room you wanted for the baby?"
"I thought the smart thing would be to keep it next to our room. Oh, I mean your room."
"No, you were right the first time. This is our room." He kissed you quickly before adding, "If we're going to make this work then everything is ours."
You yawned, completely exhausted from the babe and moving in. "Ok," you somehow managed to get out, agreeing with Jacob.
"Sleep, (Y/N). It's late." You weren't sure if it was the combination of his soft whispered words while he rubbed your back or sheer exhaustion, but the minute you closed your eyes you were out.
Jacob just chuckled to himself as he watched you fall asleep. He was fighting the feeling himself, though he just wanted to steal a few more glances as you slept on peacefully in his arms. It was strange to him, someone who wasn't ready to settle down, how much he loved this. Just holding you in his arms and watching you sleep. Ever since he'd met you, something inside him had changed. You made him want more than just random hookup after random hookup, and now he had that something more with you. Though pretty soon there would be a little one as well. His hand stole down to your belly. He thought for sure there would be a bump there, after not seeing you for three weeks. The little blueberry inside you had grown to a strawberry now. He knew this because of course, he had to google it, along with so many other things. Like how to change a diaper, and what he should expect at each week of your pregnancy. He knew that right now you could start with mood swings, and be crying one minute and happy the next. He was just waiting for that to happen. He was trying to be prepared as best he could to help you out with the baby growing inside you. His baby. God, it sounded weird, yet so good at the same time. It was thoughts of his little one that had him drifting off to sleep.
Jacob was home for the next five days before off on a short road trip before Thanksgiving. It was after a one point loss that he brought up finally being able to tell people about your pregnancy. The two of you were driving home after the game and you could tell his mind was preoccupied, you just assumed it was about the game. That was until he spoke. "I think we should tell everyone." It was sort of out of the blue and you had to admit you weren't sure if you were ready.
 "I don't know Jacob."
Before you could say more, he looked over at you saying, "why?"
"It's just...I'm the new person here. I've only been to three games counting tonight." He looked over again when you came to a stoplight, confused by what you were saying. "They're going to judge me." When he still didn't understand, you added, "They're all going to think I baby trapped you."
 "No, they won't."
"Please, I know women, and you said it yourself; they're a family. I'll be looked at as the outsider that wanted to get her claws into a famous athlete."
"I don't know about famous," he joked and you noticed that he tended to do that a lot. When you just gave him a look, he reached over and squeezed your thigh, letting his hand rest there after doing so. "I'm teasing (Y/N). I know these guys, they aren't going to think that way once we tell them. Hell, I'll take full blame. I mean I should've worn a condom, but if I'm being honest...I'm glad I didn't."
You were shocked at his words, to the point that you had none yourself. "Don't look so shocked," Jacob said breaking the silence. "I'll admit, that kids weren't in my plans right now, but they were in them. And I have to say now, once I saw blueberry, who's now strawberry; I'm kind of excited to be a dad. I guess that's why I want to tell everyone."
Well, shit, now he had you all weepy. You understood where he was coming from, there was something about seeing the baby on the ultrasound, even though you had no clue what you were looking at, and then hearing the heartbeat, well it made you feel the exact same way as he did. "Ok."
 "Ok?"
 "Ok, we can tell people."
"Really? I didn't say that to make you change your mind or anything." His hand was running up and down your thigh now, more in an excited manner than seductive, yet it still sent tingles through your body.
"I know, but I'll be twelve weeks in a couple days and then we're pretty much out of the woods according to the doctor." That had been your main concern, having a miscarriage. It would be hard enough on you let alone having to tell everyone who was sharing in your happiness.
"Oh," Jacob exclaimed and you could tell that was something that hadn't really crossed his mind. "Well, we can wait then."
"What if we compromise." After all, the two of you had been doing that a lot recently, no reason to stop now. "You're only gone a couple short days. We can tell everyone when you get back, at Thanksgiving." When you were with the other wives and girlfriends tonight they had mentioned that they were going to be doing a group thanksgiving dinner for those who wished to celebrate and didn't have family in town. It was a no-brainer to say yes, though you probably should've talked to Jacob first. It was too late for that now, as you were already down for bringing a couple pies for dessert.
"That actually sounds like a good plan. Even if I didn't know we were officially going." There was that damn squeeze of your thigh again to let you know he was teasing. This time you played along.
"Hmm, I don't remember you being mentioned in the invite, but I'm sure I can bring a plus one." You were half tempted to reach over to grasp his thigh, but you settled for just linking your fingers together with his, liking the fact that you two had this easiness with each other.
"I'm fine with being your plus one anytime, prinsessa."
Once the matter was settled the two of you concentrated on other things until you got home and he whisked you up to the bedroom. You had read that your sex drive might decrease some during these weeks of pregnancy but you were not finding that to be the fact. If anything, you were constantly, well the only word for it was, horny. Just being in Jacob's presence drove you wild, and it seemed to be the same for him. Though the two of you did have your tender moments, where you cuddled up on the couch to watch hockey; Jacob explaining the premises of the game better to you. There were also nights you would just lie in bed and talk about the baby. Jacob gently caressing the small bump on your belly that wasn't even noticeable unless you were naked, which around him seemed to be often.
Before you knew it, he was off on another road trip. Immersing yourself in work during the day was easy, it was the nights that were long. Game nights, you found yourself at one of the other ladies houses watching the game together or just laughing and enjoying each otherâs company, but then you would head home to an empty house and an even more vacant bed. It wasnât lost on you that just a few short months ago, this was the life you wanted. No craved. Now here you were wishing that Jacob was home with you, preferably in bed, but just being in the house would be enough for you. Though you couldnât complain too much as Jacob would call and facetime you several times each night.
It wasnât too long of a roadie, and before you knew it, he was back in Vancouver and you were getting ready for Thanksgiving. With each pie you baked, you had to admit you were getting more and more nervous at the idea of telling Jacobâs teammates. Youâd taken the morning to tell his parents, who while not exactly thrilled about the way it happened, were happy for the both of you and excited about having a grandchild. Yours were pretty much the same, now understanding that your move to Canada was more than just business.
Hours later, you were in the car headed to Chris Tanevâs place, where he and his girlfriend Kendra were hosting. You couldnât stop your legs from bouncing as you went past neighborhood after neighborhood. âIâm telling you thereâs nothing to be worried about,â Jacob insisted, placing his hand over your knee in an effort to get you to stop.
âYeah, well Iâll be better when itâs over and I donât have to see the disapproving stares.â
âYou werenât this nervous telling our families.â
âI was for yours. I just wasnât showing it on the outside.â Admittedly, you had been scared about telling them, but Jacobâs parents were just so kind. There were also words exchanged in Swedish which you had no clue as to their meaning, but Jacob assured you it was nothing bad at all. âBesides our parents arenât going to judge us at the end of the day. Family kind of has to love you, even when you make mistakes.â
 âMistakes, huh?â
 âThatâs not what I meant.â
âI know, just trying to take your mind off of everything. So, youâre cool with my parents coming over for a bit. I mean dad and I will be on the road a couple of days, so itâll just be you and my mom, but I know sheâs really excited about meeting you.â
âYeah, Iâm actually looking forward to it.â Which was the honest to godâs truth. You wanted to learn all about Jacob and his family, for no matter what happened between the two of you, they would always be a part of the babyâs life. âIâm sure sheâs got some good stories about you growing up. You know the ones that are way too embarrassing to tell, but momâs do anyhow.â He groaned and you laughed. There were obviously some he didnât want to be told and you were looking forward to hearing about those the most.
âMaybe I should be rethinking this.â
âDonât you dare.â As the words rolled off your tongue, you realized you were pulling up to the Tanev residence.
âReady?â You took a deep breath, steeling yourself for the next few hours. You planned on just following Jacobâs lead. It wasnât like you were going to walk in and simply announce that you were pregnant; however, and whenever, he wanted to tell them, was his choice.
He squeezed your hand one last time before the two of you exited the car. You grabbed the desserts, tossing two pies at Jacob before taking the last two, and heading to the door. âWelcome, guys,â Chris said as he opened the door, then took one of the pies off your hands. âCome on in.â Not everyone was there yet, which was rather nice. There were a few of the single players there, along with Sarah and Erik. You knew for sure Holly and Bo were coming as well and a few more of the couples, that you werenât extremely close to yet, they just hadnât arrived yet.
Mike Del Zotto was quick to come up and throw an arm around you. âHey (Y/N), itâs good to see you. Glad you two decided to join us. I thought maybe this guy would keep you all to himself. I know I would.â He gave you a quick wink, but it was the look on Jacobâs face that had you laughing. He was not happy with DZ flirting with you by any means.
âKeep it up and we may just have to head home,â Jacob countered, though in a joking manner.
âMen,â Sarah said, grabbing you from Michaelâs hold so that she could hug you. âWhy donât you boys run along and watch football or something. Letâs go put these in the kitchen.â She took the pies from Jacob and headed off.
Jacob came over and pecked you on the lips, before slyly asking, âYou good?â
âYeah,â with that he gave your hip a final squeeze then went with the other guys to the movie room.
âThese look amazing,â Kendra told you, checking out the baked goods. âWhere did you get them from?â
âOh, I made them. I hope thatâs ok.â
âOk? Oh my god, of course, theyâre probably way better than store-bought. Though you have me feeling guilty now because I did not make any of the food.â It was then that you noticed large tinfoil pans here and there in the kitchen with a couple in the oven. âI like to cook, but not for this herd. I donât have enough oven space for the number of turkeys weâd need.â
âWell, Iâm still amazed at you having everyone,â you told her, for it had to be a feat hosting this many hockey players along with their significant others. âEverything looks amazing and your house is gorgeous by the way.â
âThank you. Would you like a glass?â Kendra held out a bottle of red wine, literally your weakness any other time than right now. âI was just pouring us a second.â
âYeah, join us,â Sarah added. âWeâre going to need it with all this male testosterone today.â
Somehow at the last couple of get-togethers, youâd managed to get out of drinking simply by saying that you had work the next day, but that would not be the case tomorrow. âI really shouldnât, but a bottle of water would be great.â
âOne water coming up.â Kendra headed over to the fridge when you saw Sarah eyeing you funny.
âOk, so I have to ask.â This from Sarah as she still had that look on her face. It was the one Kennedy always made when she knew something. Nine times out of ten your best friend was always right, but then this was Sarah, someone who you considered a friend but didnât know near as well. âYou havenât been drinking at any games and youâre not today. Are youâŠ.?â She paused letting the word pregnant just hang in the air, for you to fill in the blank.
âAre you?â Kendra asked now fully into the conversation, yet still, neither said the word.
All you could do was take a deep breath and say, âYeah, I am.â Still not saying the P-word as if that would change the circumstance of your situation.
âOh my god, congratulations.â Sarah came running around the island to hug you. "That's amazing." You were stunned there wasn't a hint of disapproval on her face. And when you looked back at Kendra who was waiting her turn to hug you, all you could see was happiness as well.
"Jacob is going to be a great father," Kendra told you when she wrapped you up in an embrace. "How far along are you?"
"How far along is what?" Chris asked.
"I hope you mean dinner because I'm starving," Del Zotto added.
Bringing up the rear of the trio was Jacob and all you could do was give him a sheepish grin as Kendra broke the news. "Congratulations, Daddy."
Both Michael and Chris turned to him, with shocked looks on their faces. "Why didn't you tell us, man?" Chris spoke first, as he clapped Jacob on the back then gave him the standard bro hug.
"I planned on it today," Jacob answered while giving you a look both shocked and thrilled that you were the one spilling the beans. "Just hadn't found the right time."
Del Zotto came up and hugged you first, followed by Chris, and the next thing you knew the whole place was congratulating the two of you. It was nothing like you thought, not one person questioned the fact that you'd just moved in together or started to see one another. Jacob had been right all along. They were just like your family, supportive of the decision the two of you had made. You were beginning to believe that this may work out. Especially, as your relationship with Jacob only seemed to grow stronger with each passing day.
After Thanksgiving, things seemed to be moving in fast forward. You hit the twelve-week mark in your pregnancy, which meant another ultrasound and another chance for you and Jacob to further bond over the baby. It went from being a strawberry to being the size of a lime, according to the chart, and this time you could both see it was an actual baby growing inside of you. There was a distinct shape to its little arms and legs, which made the whole thing that much more real and exciting. Which is how you found yourself asking the girls how you would go about getting a little Canucks jersey with Jacobâs number and Daddy written on the back as a Christmas gift for Jacob. It was the first baby item that you bought and it felt so perfect.
As Christmas drew near, you found yourself decorating Jacobâs house for the holiday season. Even though youâd been living in the house for several weeks, it still didnât feel like your home quite yet. Jacob had few holiday decorations, so you found yourself shopping more than you cared to admit. By the time he arrived home, you had the house transformed into something worthy of a Hallmark movie. It wasnât what Jacob was used to by any means considering the Swedes are more classic and subtle when it came to holiday dĂ©cor, but he loved it all the same.
Christmas was a quiet affair. You opted to stay in Canada with Jacob, figuring that you might as well start making some new traditions, like celebrating on Christmas Eve as is done in Sweden. The two of you tried to mesh your holiday traditions as much as possible, so you agreed to open one present Christmas Eve after you had eaten some classic holiday dishes from Jacobâs homeland, then opting to open the rest Christmas morning as your family had always done. Jacob bought you a beautiful charm bracelet. There was a Welcome to Vegas charm, as well as a hockey stick, and Canucks one, but the one you loved the most was the one that had Mom to be written on a heart.
âThis is beautiful,â you said leaning over to give him a kiss. âThank you.â
You handed over your gift to him, which he took with a silly grin on his face. Tearing through the paper, he unwrapped the box in no time, then pulled out the tiny hockey sweater. âThis is great (Y/N). I canât wait to see him or her in it at the game.â
âThereâs more.â He looked at you curiously then peered back inside the box, seeing the gold chain lying inside. Youâd seen him wear one on a few occasions but this had a little charm on the end. He looked at it several times before you finally gave in. âItâs the doppler sound of the babyâs heartbeat. I had told you Iâd record it for you before we did the ultrasound here in Vancouver, but I still wanted you to have something to remember that moment.â
His eyes started to well up, just like they had that day when you heard the heartbeat. âThis isâŠwowâŠI love it.â It was Jacobâs turn to plant a kiss on your lips, only this one became a little more heated. He finally pulled away, but only to say, âCan you put it on me?â
Thankfully he was seated on the couch, so you got up and placed the chain around his neck. The moment it was secure, he looked down at the charm and smiled, before reaching to grab you and pull you close again. This time speaking hushed words to the baby in Swedish as he always did.
âI think for my New Yearâs resolution, Iâm going to learn Swedish. Iâm dying to know what you tell the baby.â
âThat time, I said that they are so lucky to have the most wonderful mom in the world.â Well, if that didnât make the heat rise to your cheeks. âThere might have been a few other things as well. Iâm more than happy to teach you though if youâd like to learn.â
âI think I would. It would be nice to teach our child your native tongue, and they say to start as early as possible. Which it seems that you are.â He just grinned then hauled you down on his lap, cradling your small little bump once you were seated.
âWell hereâs your first lesson. You say God Jul for Merry Christmas in Swedish.â
You repeated the words, butchering them a bit, then repeated it again much better. âVery good, prinsessa. Obviously, you know that one as well.â
âI do. Though I wonder if I shall still get that title if we have a girl.â
âHmm, might have to change it to Drottning.â
âI have no clue what that means, but itâs not nearly as romantic.â Jacob let out a bark of laughter.
âNo, I donât suppose queen sounds as good in Swedish as it does English. I guess I will just have to think about it.â
âWhich makes me wonder, do you want a boy or a girl?â Everyone knew that all you both wanted was a healthy baby, but you wouldnât lie and say that youâd love to see Jacob with a son. One he could teach all his hockey moves to, though he could just as easily do that with a girl. Maybe it was that you wanted a boy just so that you could see Jacob through him. One that had his sense of humor and good looks. Though your child would probably never be in trouble if he could replicate his fatherâs grin. It melted your heart every time you saw it. You had to shake yourself from where your thoughts were leading for you never saw yourself as this person; the kind that wanted to see the man that they loved reflected in their children.
Did you literally just think that you loved Jacob? Certainly, you had feelings for him, but love; no, it couldnât be that. You hadnât known Jacob long enough to say you were in love with him. Hell, the two of you were in the process of getting a divorce. Werenât people falling out of love when that happened and not into it?
âEither will be fine, just healthy.â Jacob's voice brought you back to reality and where your train of thoughts was leading. It wasnât that you didnât want to explore those feelings; now was just not the right moment for it. Later, you thought, when you werenât wrapped up in his arms with this warm fuzzy feeling from the holiday season already bubbling inside you.
âWell, we both want that, but isnât there one you want a little bit more than the other?â You probed further, ignoring those earlier thoughts.
âNot really prinsessa.â He had to have some preference just as you did.
âSo, then you donât want to know what weâre having?â
âNot if you donât.â He was too damn accommodating at times or was that he was disinterested. He was always talking to the baby, so you didnât think that it was the latter.
âWe have a few more weeks to think about it.â No point in making the decision right now, maybe he would change his mind. âI made the next appointment for when youâre back, on the fifteenth. Weâll have to know by then.â
He kissed your temple, hands running under your shirt so that he could caress the tiny baby bump. âWe will, for now though, we better get to bed before Santa comes.â
âIs Santa coming the reason you want to go?â you teased as you could feel his erection growing against you.
âWell, if you let me, prinsessa, Santa wonât be the only one cuming.â God, you loved his sense of humor. There was that word again. It had you jumping off his lap in order for your mind to not wander down that path again.
âGuess we better head to bed then.â He was swift to follow you, sweeping you off your feet and carrying you to the bedroom, where he definitely kept his word.
It was two days later that he was headed off on a ten-day road trip. You were definitely not looking forward to it, as the house always seemed empty without him in it.
The team played on New Yearâs Eve and had it been anywhere else than New Jersey you wouldâve gone to watch only so you could ring in the new year together. Instead, you spent that night with all the Canuck ladies, facetiming Jacob as the new year approached. Jacob was still going to be on the road for another five days, so you busied yourself by taking down all the holiday decorations. You decided to make the place a bit homier, adding pictures and artwork here and there. The place was really starting to feel more like home.
The only room that still needed work, was the office. While your desk was neat and organized, Jacobâs was a disaster. Had been since the day you moved in. You were seriously starting to wonder how things got done with the mountain of papers on his desk. All those papers had been driving you crazy every day you came in to work. Jacob needed someone to organize him, or at least thatâs what you told yourself as you sat in his chair and started to sift through piece after piece of mail and documents.
There was a pile for bills, all of which somehow got paid, though you didnât know how. A pile for legal documents and a miscellaneous pile that you needed to figure out where to put. Once you organized the first two, you moved on to the random ones that you werenât one hundred percent sure of. You were halfway through when you came across a familiar envelope; the same one youâd sent the divorce papers back in. Why it hadnât caught your attention when you first separated it, you werenât sure?
You opened it up, assuming it was a copy of the document youâd signed. What you found inside shocked you. It was the original paperwork. The blue ink you signed it in staring back at you, but that wasnât the part that told you it was a copy. It was the fact that Jacobâs signature was nowhere to be found. He hadnât signed it. Why? Youâd both agreed to the divorce, it was practically a done deal, only now it wasn't.

Is there going to be an epilogue for What Happens in Vegas or is it going to be including in the last chapter? Not that it is very important for me to know that, but I'm curious. I might also be trying to know when you're going to post it tbh... I always feel like you're about to post a new chapter whenever you start to post several pictures of Marky đ
I think Iâm going to just include it in the last chapter. Which Iâm currently working on. Itâll probably be another week for it as tonight is my first day back to writing after my family time.
Thank you guys for being so patient. I loved my time with my family and am missing them already. But hopefully Iâll have something new for you guys soon. đ€đđ€đ
