i will never understand why peter jackson decided to make the dwarves so awful when they stay in rivendell. this is a conscious change that gives nothing. they’re our main characters that we’re supposed to like, WHY would you make them rude and discourteous to their host(s) for literally no reason?

because bestie elrond is bestie elrond, he’s letting 14 guys he’s never met stay in his house as guests, and the company responds by starting a food fight, bathing in a fountain, tearing up furniture to start a fire, et cetera et cetera. it makes them look like awful people who love being destructive at worst, and complete fucking idiots who can’t see what’s wrong with their behavior at worst.

#like you can say that their behavior in bag end was similar #but at least in bag end they thought that they were invited by someone who had been informed of their coming and already agreed to host them #and before thorin showed up it was a far less serious setting #meanwhile in rivendell they were not invited and are instead relying on the hospitality of mr kind as summer #who literally does not have to allow them to stay but does anyway out of the goodness of his heart fr #they're already on thin ice by being a party of 15 that shows up out of the blue and is like food plz 🥺👉👈#WHAT are you guys DOING????#and thorin is a king!! movie thorin is supposed to be a great king!!! isn't he supposed to be smarter than this???#WHY is his first response to insult his host who is also a foreign ruler TO HIS FACE #you INSULT lord elrond in his own house??????#what fucking gives???#i speak #tolkien tag #the hobbit
