Some stray notes about these versions of the game below the fold:

Both WA and WWP on the PSone support widescreen play! You'll need to go to the A/V settings and switch from 4:3 to 16:9. Once you've done that, you'll want to hit the Options button on your PS4/PS5 controller and change the display mode to 16:9.

The WA menus look a little wonky - it looks like the rendering method they used on the original PSone isn't emulated properly on the PS4/PS5. It's purely cosmetic, and doesn't impact in-game play. So far I haven't seen this issue affect WWP.

WA and WWP were both games that supported the PSone's DualShock controller, but as far as I can tell the emulated version on PS4/PS5 defaults the controller to a regular "classic" PSone conrtroller as opposed to a DualShock. This means you can't use the right analog stick to look around the map like you can on an actual PSone.

As the PSone didn't have online play, these games don't have online play either. Pity.

These changes address a common complaint: the current sidebar blog view doesn’t utilize the overall space very well. It’s 2022, after all; screens are bigger these days.

Addressing it in the usual tumblr fashion: Fucking it up worse.

Look at this picture, @staff​. Look at it and act properly ashamed of yourselves.

This image is 1920 pixels wide. Of that, even generously including both whitespace margins, the actual blog content is 860 pixels wide.

That’s 45 percent. Over HALF of the screen is completely dead space.

(Let’s not pretend blog reccs aren’t deadspace until you can stop reccomending people who are actively sending me death threats.)

And what did this change cost us? Not much - just literally every single usable element of the old design.

Don’t insult our intelligence. Just tell us “We wanted more spaces to sell ads more than we wanted to maintain basic functionality for our userbase.”

What’s changing, exactly?

Before, when you clicked on a blog in your dashboard, explore, or search, it opened up this drawer on the right-hand side of your screen. This didn’t work very well for smaller or wider screens, or indeed on mobile browsers:

With the new viewing experience, blogs will now unfurl in the center of your screen—giving you more space to scroll through their content (while still keeping your scroll position on the dashboard as before):

Why have we done this? What does this mean?

These changes address a common complaint: the current sidebar blog view doesn’t utilize the overall space very well. It’s 2022, after all; screens are bigger these days.

If you have asks open, the ask button (with its customized text, if you’ve customized it) will appear directly in your header, instead of hidden in a menu as it was before.

Extending the width of this blog view affords us the ability to add more stuff, like a sidebar—and maybe some more customizable elements!

Might this galvanize you to change things up and update your default blog appearance for something custom? Perhaps. After all, a bold, vibrant, and creative Tumblr is a Tumblr at its best.
