You hear him howling around your kitchen door
You better not let him in
Little old lady got mutilated late last night
Werewolves of London again

Warren Zevon - The Old Waldorf, San Francisco, California, January 8, 1983
The Excitable Boy hits San Francisco! This solo show sees Warren Zevon playing some of his best tunes (so far, anyway) solo on acoustic guitar and piano. "I guess some of you are wondering what happened to the band — besides Reaganomics," he quips early on. "It's just my monster fucking ego!"
Of course, Zevon is great in this stripped down setting, still bringing a high level of go-for-broke energy to the proceedings. Even the ballads are kinda nervy. "One thing about being a songwriter, you can go back over your life and find a particularly melancholy kinda tune that reflects a period of your life that you'd prefer to forget," Warren tells us before a particularly melancholy "Hasten Down The Wind." "And then later on another terrible trauma happens to you and the song becomes singularly appropriate again!"
Shout-out to Todd Alcott Graphics for this perfectly pulp-y artwork ... a lot more where that came from!

In the song "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon, one of the lines is:
"You better stay away from him, he'll rip your lungs out, Jim"
Whenever I hear it, I imagine that it's Dr. McCoy warning Captain Kirk. And then it's fun to imagine that Kirk replies with the next line:
"I'd like to meet his tailor"
And it's especially funny to imagine that they're talking about Spock.
