This reminds me of some thoughts I had on my most recent rewatch of Tron Legacy, regarding its religious aspects. Specifically, how it goes from the obvious polytheism of the original film to something that more resembles Christian monotheism. Yes, the Programs still talk about "the Users", plural, but the only User most of them have met is Kevin (and even if he didn't create everyone of them, he did at least create the whole world they live in). And then his son shows up. Though I guess one difference from Christianity in this case is that it's the Father who sacrifices himself, and he does it to atone for his own sins, not the sins of his creation.
In fact, I think that one of Kevin's big mistakes in the first place was that he didn't let the Programs meet any other Users. If they had, they might have understood that Users can have different personalities and outlooks, and Clu would probably have had more difficulty in convincing them that "all Users suck". I mean, Flynn can be pretty charming, but it's certainly not inconcievable that a decent demagogue could point at him and go "you seriously want this guy to run the universe?"
I have a personal headcanon that Flynn's denomination of User-ism has been heavily infused with elements of both buddhism and taoism. Along with that whole monotheistic spin.
Yeah, seems to fit very well with how he acts in Legacy.

Oh hey, that reminds me of my old headcanon for young Kevin's uncanny valley look in Tron Legacy!

The two Voyager space probes, currently the human-made objects that have travelled farthest from the Earth, contain many interesting things, including, of course, the famous Golden Records. They also contain custom-built computers, with custom software. In other words, there are computer programs on board the Voyager probes, programs that among other things control the onboard cameras and encode the images taken. In fact, the computers onboard the Voyager probes hold the record for "longest period of continual operation for a computer", since they've been running since 1977.
I couldn't help but think of this from the Tron perspective, and what it would be like if the programs on the Voyager probes are like the Programs in the Tron films. Do they live together in a small little Grid? Are they aware of where their home computer is located? What do they think about their work, do they understand the importance of adjusting the cameras on the probes, and decoding the data recieved from them, carrying it to the I/O Tower to be transmitted all the way back to Earth? Do they sometimes just look out through the camera, at the vast universe outside, perhaps focusing on the pale blue dot in the distance?
At some point during the mission, many years after the probes had been launched, the software was actually upgraded via transmission from Earth, to make the image encoding and compression more efficient. That must have been an amazing moment for the Programs onboard, to recieve a message from the Users after having spent who knows how long alone in their little box.
Supposedly, the probes will run out of power sometime around 2032. Of course, if we're to believe Tron Identity, the Programs might actually be clever enough to keep themselves running a while longer. But eventually, the Voyager computers will shut down, with no hope of anyone coming along to save them. Unless, of course, some aliens come along and pick them up. But if that doesn't happen, I hope the Programs know that their hard work wasn't for nothing, and that their journey filled their Users with awe.

I'm reminded of H.P. Lovecraft's joke story about the history of the proliferous author Ibid.

To be honest, my mind actually went in the same direction when I first saw the page and how unknown-robot-guy and Jet were interacting. Also, let's not forget the final panel on that page:
Tumblr media
Don't forget to check out the rest of the pages for more fun stuff, including Flynn looking like a total schlub.
Hey there, Tron fans! Do you want yet another piece of cancelled Tron media to feel miserable about, since we most likely never will be able to see it finished? Then look no further than the planned 2004 Tron 2.0 comic!
Tumblr media
The Tron 2.0 Wiki has a comprehensive summary of everything we know about the comic, and there's also this archived interview with the creators. What we know is certainly tantalizing. It seems to have been intended to be a sequel to the game, with a superheroic tone, with Jet Bradley jumping between being an ordinary human in the Real World and a colorful, superpowered protector of the digital world. Mercury would of course be his partner/sidekick, but what's especially interesting is the descriptions of two entirely new characters: A "digital viking" named Tek, and Odorus, who can apparently track Programs with his sense of smell (wait, computers programs have a sense of smell? How does that work? What does that represent?). The plot on the first planned miniseries (named "Derezzed") apparently revolved around these characters solving a murder mystery.
Sadly, the comic was never published, though we did get some cool cover images, including this one that appears to depict some new villains:
Tumblr media
Some sketches for pages have also surfaced (they're all available on the Wiki page linked above), and I believe that one of them might actually show the "viking" character, in the lower right corner:
Tumblr media
Another page has Jet and Mercury talking to an unknown character. Could they be Odorus? Or perhaps the murder victim?
Tumblr media
Another intriguing thing is that there were apparently also plans for a story about the characters from the original film. This sketch page might be for that comic, or maybe a flashback sequence in the 2.0 comic:
Tumblr media
Of course, we did eventually get a comic sequel to Tron 2.0 in the form of Tron: The Ghost in the Machine, but that was certainly something very different from the cancelled comic.

I'm reminded of the origins of the concept of "easter eggs" in video games: Programmers were angry that the game companies didn't credit them in the games they created, so they snuck in their names as secrets that could be found by players.
What I'm saying is, I'm picturing Flynn's credits File having bunny ears, a tail, and carrying a bag of eggs.

I think my favorite chapter titles are from Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. Just check out this good stuff:
I. "There Are Heroisms All Round Us"
II. "Try Your Luck with Professor Challenger"
III. "He is a Perfectly Impossible Person"
IV. "It's Just the very Biggest Thing in the World"
V. "Question!"
VI. "I was the Flail of the Lord"
VII. "To-morrow we Disappear into the Unknown"
VIII. "The Outlying Pickets of the New World"
IX. "Who could have Foreseen it?"
X. "The most Wonderful Things have Happened"
XI. "For once I was the Hero"
XII. "It was Dreadful in the Forest"
XIII. "A Sight which I shall Never Forget"
XIV. "Those Were the Real Conquests"
XV. "Our Eyes have seen Great Wonders"
XVI. "A Procession! A Procession!"
Things to bring back in books:
Chapter titles
Actually having a synopsis on the back instead of reviews no one will read

There was a show on Finnish public radio during the 1980s that had a segment where they broadcasted computer code as noise, which the listeners could tape and use on their computers. Here is a fascinating article about it. The comments are well worth reading too:
"Also remember how my grandmother once tuned into the broadcast by accident and how upset she got about the satanic noise her radio produced. I spent quite a bit time trying to explain it to her. Didn't quite manage to get her to understand. She just added it to her list of things (rock music, soviet union, etc) that proved that the end was indeed nigh."

One of my favorite music videos is the one for the Justice song DVNO, because it consists of a series of animations of parts of the lyrics, in the style of old company logos, the kind you would see at the beginning of a VHS tape or something similar. So today I decided to go through the video and collect my favorite logos from it. I think some of them could work pretty well as reaction images and the like, so feel free to use them. Unfortunately I don't have the means to make GIFs, but I would be delighted if someone else tried (especially for "Make The Girls Sweat" and "No Offense").

Spoilers for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Tumblr media
I know that the film has been out for only a few weeks, but I still want there to be more fanart of Phoebe and Melody kissing. I'm sure there will be eventually, but I'm just so impatient. They teased it so hard in the film, and then it never happened.

An important announcement from Disney about TRON Uprising
Today, Disney made an official statement about the status of the beloved TV series TRON Uprising:
“We began releasing episodes of TRON Uprising in 2012, and continued to do so until early 2013. After that, no more new episodes of the series were produced, not even the planned season finale. We know that the show had many dedicated fans, who were anxious to know what had happened to it. Unfortunately, due to various reasons, we never stated if the show had been cancelled or not, it was simply left in a ‘limbo’ of sorts. This sadly meant that the fans were left in doubt and uncertainty about the status of the show, and whether any new episodes would eventually be released. They have been holding out hope for many years now, that their beloved show would eventually be continued, or at least that the first season would receive its anticipated finale.
Now, we are happy to finally be able to announce what the fans have been waiting to hear for so long: As of today, TRON Uprising is officially cancelled, and you have our sincerest assurances that no new episodes will ever be produced for it. We are certain that this announcement will make the fans happy, putting any doubts to rest, and allowing them to be certain about what the official status of the show is.”
When asked for comment, Bruce Boxleitner simply grumbled “Yeah, that figures.”
