You’re a passenger on this ride, not someone in any semblance of direction I was left wondering why I was a fly on the wall for some interactions. While you think you have some sway as to how the story pans out, able to choose between a couple different speech or text options, those interactions end the same. Conversations are largely written well, but even that’s sidelined by slow pacing. It meanders to band stuff and then just goes back to people hanging out. The characters are like the narrative: aimless and without direction. I care more about OFK’s holographic cat than I do its creator or fellow bandmates. Even when one protagonist makes what’s clearly a wrong decision, I ended up siding with them because every other character went overly - and unnecessarily - dramatic about it. They’re selfish and completely self-absorbed a number of side-characters come and go, and only one makes our protagonists look like good people. The protagonists take stress naps and generally seem like the world is against them. The first episode is a lot of inside baseball, people living in LA seemingly want to impress upon you how amazing they are for just that. They work day jobs on bean bags, tip-tapping away on laptops clad in stylish stickers, and frequent a bubble tea shop to generally lament about their latest relationship (or lack thereof). Despite being overly dramatic decidedly queer, I struggled to identify or find much in common with We Are OFK‘s protagonists. It’s that this point that I should point out my age relative to that of OFK’s members. Episodes are usually around the one-hour mark, and most of that time is spent aimlessly texting. While each of We Are OFK‘s five episodes concludes with a new song (and attached music video) to boot, you’re largely going to be following each of OFK’s four band members - Luca Le Fae (he/him), Itsumi Saito (she/her), Carter Flores (they/them), and Jey Zhang (she/her) - as they slog through life. It’s very much all of that, and not much else. At the same time of that trailer (shown below), a press release proudly proclaimed that We Are OFK would be packed with “emotional texting, thirst texting, meme texting, emoji spamming” and more. I was under the impression what would be released would be more about the band and its music from said trailer, and the blame for that falls squarely with me. The brainchild of Teddy Dief, a co-creator of Hyperlight Drifter, We Are OFK announced itself by way of a tightly scripted, hilarious introduction that was equal parts endearing and willing to poke fun at the industry. Having to come out with that right out of the bat makes me saddened and annoyed, as the title first flew onto my radar in a big and inspired way. We Are OFK is a biopic video game that has great music coupled with sparse, uninspired gameplay.

It's quite difficult to define We are OFK ; a visual novel? yes and no, some moments make the player active beyond the reading. An interactive adventure then? yes and no, the dialogue choices don’t impact the story in any way, so the interactions themselves are not that important. Either way, don't venture into this game if you're looking for some gameplay, think of it more as your miniseries for the week where you can kick back and enjoy the debut of this virtual music band

❤ Funny and friendly slices of life but which also bring their share of emotions, not in the pathos on the contrary, with an intimate and chill side. ❤ Cute & colorful graphics and simplistic yet effective animation. ❤ Excellent voice actors who really make the characters authentic! ❤ Inclusive <3

+/- The music videos are really cool (whether you like the music or not, personally I really liked it!) but the interaction phases are uneven depending on the song (the one from episode 1 remains my favorite <3)

✖ Too many choices of dialogue via the mobile phone ; it's silly but I find it more impersonal and it dampens the emotions of the characters imo (except for that scene from the audition because the directing contributed to that, too bad there weren't more moments like this). ✖ I would have appreciated a finale with at least one concert scene of the group, apart from the clips ; at no time do we see them performing as a band, it's a shame. ✖ Some lengths in the episodes.

I would also like to point out that the game is currently only in full English (dub & sub) and the game contains a lot of abbreviations and slang language through the sms conversations (I address this obviously to non-English speakers).

I spent a nice time of this story, it was charming without being transcendent. Good thing though is that I discovered a new band to follow ;p

We are OFK story game releasing this summer on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. All due to the work and sequence animation behind Team OFK. Working to make its way onto Steam soon. Ready for a summer full of boba tea, flirting, and major feelings. Well Team OFK just announced details during the latest Nintendo Indie World showcase. We Are OFK is their music biopic game about the indie pop band OFK. Due to be releasing on Nintendo Switch this Summer alongside the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Linux, Mac, and Windows PC versions. “I cannot comment on whether we’ll be added to Smash Bros,” added lead singer Luca Le Fae. “I can’t say that. You can say that. Is it true? I can’t say that. But I’d be surprised if we got into Smash before like Demi Lovato or Lil Nas X because they deserve it… We’re all super honored that our biopic is coming!!!” To celebrate the We Are OFK Nintendo announcement, Team OFK revealed the series’ glittering title sequence animation. Doing so with Los Angeles studio Six Point Harness (dir. Emily Gerich).

All five episodes of the game will release weekly. Due to being accompanied by the release of new OFK singles with each new episode. Episodes one and two will release together at first. We Are OFK follows the lives of four friends in their 20s. All while they attempt to break into the music business. Then fall in and out of love, and figure out how to pay rent, while making art in Los Angeles.

We Are OFK a heartfelt story rich adventure game for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. Thanks to the efforts of developer and creator Team OFK. Working to make their big debut on Steam.
