Whats your fav LMM novel? Please rank from the most you like to the least you like. Thank you 😊.cn.
Thank you for this question! First of all, I am very sorry it took me so long to answer, but I have to say it was a difficult choice for me (Sophie's choice, one might even say).
Before I start, I want to give a little disclaimer: there are some books I haven't read in ages. For example, I was the biggest fan of Anne series back in the days - I read Anne of Green Gables at the age of 8 and I remember loving it so much.
But then, I read other Montgomery's novels and loved them... even more. While Anne's books are still close to my heart, I haven't read them in years, while I still keep coming back to other books. That is something I should definitely change - if I reread Anne series (and Maud's other books) and my rating changes, I'll make a new list!
That being said, Anne of Green Gables is definitely the most iconic Montgomery's book - it is a beautiful, heart-warming tale of coming of age - and Anne herself is the most iconic female character Montgomery had ever created.
Ok, the disclaimer was very long, but I needed to make things clear, for Anne series is only listed as fourth - but not because I don't enjoy it, but because I need to reread it...
Oh, and another thing: I only included the novels, not short stories.
Emily of New Moon trilogy - my absolute favourite. I know many people have issues with these books and I understand this. Still, that's my number one. I must say I was not too satisfied with an ending of Emily Climbs (2nd book) and the last chapter of Emily's Quest (3rd) seems very rushed (although I like the way it ended... generally). All three have the first place ex aequo.
The Blue Castle - very close second. I love this book so much. In my opinion, Valarney is the best romance Maud had ever written. It is a lovely book - full of humour and fantastic characters; the one I keep coming back to each time I need a little cheering up. It never fails to do so. But oh, poor Cissy...
Rilla of Ingleside - it is probably the saddest book Montgomery ever wrote, but it is just so beautiful. Rilla is the heroine that goes through the biggest inner change... My favourite things about this book were: Rilla and Jims's relationship and Rilla's development. I wasn't into the romance there, tbh. Also... Walter... (tearing up).
Anne series - I will rank the books from my most to less favourite among the series: Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Island, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne of Ingleside, Rainbow Valley, Anne's House of Dreams, The Blythes Are Quoted. That being said, I really liked all of them, but I still can't get over Joy (that's why AHoD is so low. I mostly like reading about Anne pre-motherhood, even though I also adore all her children... I know, I just contradicted myself...).
Story Girl and Golden Road - I adore stories about childhood friendships and this one doesn't fail! The only sad thing - Cecily's fate :(. But truth be told, I got the impression that the King children acted a bit young for their age... on the other hand, maybe that's the way things used to be in the past.
Jane of Lantern Hill - another great book! Jane is very different from other Montgomery's heroines - she's so practical! I adore her as a character.
Magic for Marigold - I remember loving this book, but... I haven't read it in ages. I need to change that.
Tangled Web - I have some issues with the book (the racism, marrying close relatives etc.). But on the whole, I enjoyed it. I liked some stories more, some less... and one can get lost among all these Darks and Penhallows (I always get their last names wrong, even though there are only two choices!).
Pat of Silver Bush and Mistress Pat - another series I haven't read in ages. But I wasn't too fond of these books as a child - I couldn't understand Pat too well... But I really liked Hilary. I think I should give the series another try someday... maybe I'll like them more now.
Kilmeny of The Orchard - the only Montgomery's book that I dislike... no sparkling humor. No lovable characters. Ideal Kilmeny... stuck up Eric... and the awful references towards Italians. No sir, thank you. Not me.
Ok, that's my list. I feel the need to say that I find all of Montgomery's books delightful. Even Kilmeny of The Orchard had some lovely descriptions of the nature...
I truly hope that I haven't offended anyone. I am really curious what other Montgomery's fans rating would be...
Again, thank you for this question!!!!

By no means an exhaustive list (we're getting there) of everything I enjoy. Sometimes it's genuine "write 10k words" levels of brainrot. Sometimes it's just nostalgia (or my particular brand of trash). Either way I'm here to wear my influences on my sleeve and perhaps find other likeminded degenerates. ( ´ ◇ ` )ノ♡ Everything is listed in alphabetical order. ✧ Are my current obsessions (so long as I remember to update lmao). Parentheses contain my particular favorites from a set.

Today was our day to explore the Mizen Head Peninsula in the far southwest corner of Ireland. The actual Mizen Head itself has become sort of a tourist thing, with a little visitor center, cafe, gift shop, playground, etc., so we decided to avoid it and do a hike called the Three Castles loop. It was a little further north, and while we didn't have it completely to ourselves, it offered not only a nice hike, but an interesting castle built on a lake. The three castles is a bit of a misnomer, though, as it was originally one castle with three towers, but the setting by the little lake is breathtaking and was also very windy. We had seen on some hiking web sites that there was a continuation of another loop of trail that went out from the other side of the castle over to some viewpoints, and so we continued on. The problem quickly arose that the trails that had been mapped didn't really match up with what appeared to be sheep trails all over the hills, and every time we thought we were back on the path, it went off in a different direction.
So we wandered around a bit, working on finding solid footing in the deep grass and rocky ground, and finally decided to go back another way. We followed a path down by the lake that then was cliffed out, so scrambled up, only to find a cliff path that abruptly ended, and so up some more until we found a way back down. Whatever trails the earlier hikers had followed had completely changed, mostly due to disuse. Everyone else we saw on the main part of the trail only went as far as the castle and then turned around. The lack of trails may be because this is actually on private land that has been opened to hikers (small fee to use the "parking lot"), so the trail marking is not like municipal or county trails. Also, most people are really only interested in the "thing", which is the ruin. The sheep in the photo where they were all lying down is at the start of the hike - they had their backs to the wind and looked like wooly fluff balls.
We did manage to get back to the car after our little ramble, and undaunted, decided to find another hike, this time on Brow Head, just south of Mizen Head. We hadn't realized until we got there that Brow Head was instrumental in Marconi's development of wireless transmission. Russ and I both recently read "Thunderstruck", Erik Larsen's book about Marconi and the advent of wireless transmission, so it was fun to connect the dots, especially since we have been to the place in Nova Scotia on the other end. Nothing is left of the station or the aerial mast but four concrete foundation blocks, as it was destroyed by Irish irregulars in 1922 during the war for independence, possibly because it was used to communicate with the British station in Berehavem, next to Castletownbere. There's so much history in this area, and we've just scratched the surface.
We had read that one could hike out the length of the Head, but were advised against driving up the road to the beginning of the trail as it was very narrow and there were no pull outs. We parked at the little beach below and walked the road, but when we got to the "trail", it was on private land, the gate was locked and barbed wire had been stretched across the stile. So, instead, we walked the short section to another Napoleonic Era Signal Tower, this one clad in slate shingles. Here there were also ruins of what could have been Marconi's buildings, and we did find the concrete foundation blocks. And at least we got our exercise by walking up the road, since we couldn't do the several more kilometers out to the end.
We did drive through the little town of Crookhaven, where Marconi's offices were - near to Brow Head, and were able to see across a small bay to another small lighthouse. While we were up on Brow Head we had seen a sort of smudge on the horizon out from land, and with binoculars we were able to discern it was the Fastnet Lighthouse, one of the most famous. It's situated on a small rock 13 km off the coast, and stands 177 feet. There are lots of videos that show the rock base itself almost disappearing in the waves when the swells are up - today it didn't look bad at all. Fastnet Rock is considered to be the most southerly point in Ireland, hence the pun on the most southerly pint on the side of the bar in Crookhaven.
We made one last stop, and that was to the well-known Altar "wedge tomb" on the south shore of the Peninsula. This was built between 3,000 and 2,000 BCE. Burnt human bone found during excavation was radiocarbon dated to around 2,000 BCE, but it is thought the site was ritually used until the arrival of Christianity. The name "altar" comes from its use as an altar for mass during the 18th century when priests were prohibited by law from saying mass in a church.
Because it is light so late in the evening, we still had time to sit outside of our little lodge and have our wine and cheese in the sun at the end of our day. It was surprisingly warm today - around 70 degrees - and sunny, so it was definitely a change from just a week ago. We may be fortunate as the predicted rain for tomorrow has been downgraded to just a slight chance.
We are leaving the western peninsulas behind tomorrow and heading east along the Southern coast to a place called Kinsale tomorrow night. We've got some stops planned along the way, but Kinsale itself has a lot of history, and is also supposed to be a fun, colorful place.

On September 21st 1832 the novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott died aged 61.
By the time he returned to Edinburgh in 1778 to prepare for school, his parent’s had moved from their apartment in the old town to a house in George Square, a new development of terrace houses occupied by better-off citizens escaping the narrow streets of the old town. He went to the prestigious Royal High School, one of the oldest schools in the world, and a powerful influence in the Scottish Enlightenment; that flourishing of learning and reason that had mirrored the French Enlightenment and made Scotland a centre of intellectual life in the 18th century. Classes were taught in Latin and Greek and during Scott’s time the school developed an international student-body with students from Russia, Germany, the USA and the British colonies.
At school Scott stood ‘head and shoulders above his literary contemporaries’, in the words of one historian and by the age of 12 he was attending the University of Edinburgh studying classics. At 15 he joined his father’s firm to become a solicitor. Adolescence had not yet been invented. During that time his literary interests continued to develop when he regularly attended a literary salon of a friend and met poets, including the great Robbie Burns. In 1789 he began studying law at the University of Edinburgh.
Since his days with Aunt Jenny in the countryside, Scott had been fascinated with the tales of local story-tellers and had even devised a means of recording them with knife-marks on a stick, since writing them down openly was not culturally acceptable. At 25 he began his literary career, with the publication in 1796 of the tales he had collected, called The Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border.
The following year, after a whirlwind three-week courtship, he married Charlotte Genevieve Charpentier, the daughter of a Frenchman and ward of a member of the English nobility. He was appointed an officer of the Scottish courts and with that position, his wife’s income, his earnings as a solicitor and his writing he was comfortably well-off for some time. Charlotte and Walter had five children, one dying young and they remained happily married until Charlotte’s death in 1826. The couple began their married life in a large house he had built in the new parts of Edinburgh, moving a few years later to a larger outside the town of Selkirk, where his court was situated.
Scott used the new printing business of two friends, James and John Ballantyne, to self-publish his early poetry. By 1810 he had become well-known and had written such familiar works as The Lady of the Lake, and Marmion, containing the often-quoted lines, “Oh! what a tangled web we weave…..”.
The Ballantyne brothers moved the business to Edinburgh, and Scott went into partnership with them, a move that was to ultimately prove near fatal to his well-being.
At that time prose was considered inferior to poetry, so when Scott published his first novel, Waverley, in 1814 he did so anonymously. Over the next five years he published a series of similar novels, all with Scottish historical settings and all anonymous written by “the author of Waverley”. Despite their great success and huge sales for the time, only in 1827, after almost all his novels had been published, did Scott admit his authorship of them – while his books of poems were all published in his own name.
The later novels, especially Ivanhoe, were thinly-veiled historical allegories of political issues of the time, particularly the rise of Scottish nationalism and protest against English rule. Despite this, when Scott suggested to the future King George IV that he could find the Crown Jewels hidden away after the Union  he gained support for the venture and when he found them in the bowels of Edinburgh Castle the grateful King knighted him a baronet.
In 1825 there was a national banking crisis which led to the collapse of John Ballantyne & Co. and left Scott, the financial partner, with massive debts. Rather than declare bankruptcy or accept help from his admirers he wrote himself out of his debts with a flurry of publications written so quickly he left punctuation to the printers. He travelled to France and collected material for his nine-volume biography of Napoleon Bonaparte, but by 1831, with Charlotte dead and stressed by his financial ruin, his health began to fail.
Sir Walter Scott suffered a stroke and passed away on Sept. 21st 1832 at his home,  Abbotsford.  Although he had not yet paid back all his debts, his novels continued to sell and all debts were settled by his estate a short time later.  The house was opened to the public in 1833, it has remained a popular tourist attraction since then.  The last descendant of Scott lived there until 2004.
The Scott Monument, a 200 feet tall and the world’s largest monument to a writer, is in Princes Street Gardens, in Edinburgh. Scott is also commemorated on a stone slab in Makars' Court, outside The Writers' Museum in the Old Town.; quotes from his work are also visible on the Canongate Wall of the Scottish Parliament building in Holyrood another statue can be found in Parliament House which houses the Scottish High Courts
There is a tower dedicated to his memory on Corstorphine Hill, which I have featured in my posts a couple of times in the west of the city and Edinburgh's Waverley railway station, opened in 1854, takes its name from his first novel.
Elsewhere in Scotland the large column that dominates George Square in Glasgow is also a monument to the writer. Up in Perth there is a statue to the writer, in honour of his work, 'The Fair Maid of Perth', a novel published in 1828. There is a statue of Scott at Markethill Road, East Kilbride. another is  located outside the Clovenfords Hotel in Galashiels and one at  Market Place, Selkirk.
There is also is a  bronze portrait statue of Walter Scott and the writer's favourite dog Maida in Central Park in Manhattan, New York, another at  Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia and a memorial at  Victoria Park, Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. I could probably go on searching and find many others around the world, but I shall leave that for another post perhaps.
Scott’s Tomb is in the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey, on the banks of the same River Tweed as his estate and an ancient and important church in Scottish history. He had selected this spot when he was much younger.

Teralia- Chapter One: Prologue
Clouded by the eternal roars of hurricane winds and patrolled by mysterious entities whose very nature is a mystery, lies an island. An island that is hidden away from the rest of the world, never revealing its vast lakes of lava, fields of metallic foliage, and azure forests. These strange, magical conditions affected the life developing and visitors inside the island, and has thus developed its own unique, beastly races and even subspecies of humans. Ranging from aquatic to airborne, these creatures have evolved in special conditions, forming a society were both humans and monsters can coexist relatively peacefully. Each creature is immortal by age, including humans and monsters. The only way to die is from outside forces, such as being killed or disease. The humans themselves were quite diverse, having multiple subspecies and variants. Some, nicknamed Matuppian Humans, are amphibious in nature, sporting both gills and lungs, as well as webbed appendages and venomous spines. Others are troglobites, having larger eyes to see in the dark, as well as glowing markings upon their bodies. Some, although rare, can even take to the skies. The monsters, however, are much more diverse. Monster is a classification rather than a species, giving way to much more variation. Some are avian, canid, and others resemble modern monsters like cyclopses and vampires. The wildlife was equally diverse- unicorns are carnivorous apex predators, with their male counterparts, pegasi, flying above the skies, always closeby. Steel-covered bison roam the hills of metal, adapting to the harsh conditions. Desert dwelling, dinosaur-like beasts lurk beneath the sand, waiting for their next meal. All life, animal or no, giving their thanks to the island’s natural biological magic for fueling their bodies with the power they needed to get this far. And the island itself has The Elementals to thank for its existence.
Little is known about the god-like beasts known as The Elementals, but what is confirmed is that they have the ability to control one of the five elements; Fire, water, air, life, and death, as well as their subcategories like Earth and Ice depending on the elemental. They vary in size, from eleven feet tall, to thousands of feet long. Every elemental has its own strength, but each element has an alpha leading their sections. And they themselves have a leader; Ebrietas. Water Alpha and Mother Of Teralia. Seen as a figure of respect by every Teralian citizen, her name commands respect. Her very existence is the reason why Teralia exists, thus the nickname. Very few have seen her, but to those who have, she is the most beautiful thing they have ever laid eyes upon. But the Elementals’ mystery also has a downside; No one knows where they are, or if they made The God’s Plague.
The God’s Plague started out in The Ember citadel, property of the Ember Army. The sworn protector of Teralia’s civilizations. The guards protecting the castle started getting erratic, human or monster. Over time they then lashed out at random citizens and even their own fellow guardsmen. These individuals were detained, held in cells for their captain Midir, a vampire, to observe. When he got there, however, the guards were almost unrecognizable. Mutated into incredibly aggressive yet oddly beautiful beasts, the guards had broken out of their cells and had attacked the scientists trying to help them. Blood and entrails spilled on the walls and floor, soaking the mutated guards’ iridescent skin and fur. Midir managed to slay them all with some help from some nearby sentries, but this caught the attention of the higher-ups. He and anyone else who was seen killing the mutated guards were put on trial for murder. Midir tried to reason with them, saying that there was no apparent cause to this mutation and that the scientists had been mauled alive when trying to help the guards. The court didn’t listen and sentenced him to death. In his cell, Midir saw more and more beasts. Some were friends. It was a disease, spread via a bite. And the Ember Army did nothing to help. Luckily, Midir managed to escape with the help of the remaining sentries and headed deep into the forests. There, he found a meadow, and declared a resistance to be made against the Ember Army. Naming themselves hunters, they would go out and slay as much infected people as possible to prevent further spread and research the disease. Midir labeled the infected as savages, named for their aggressive and mindless behavior. The Hunters believe that the savages should be put out of their misery, while the Ember Army deems it murder. They gathered up supporters and after a year, war broke out. Many losses were suffered on both sides, and as the disease grew, it divided Teralia into three groups; Ember districts, Hunter districts, and neutral districts.
It has been 58 years since the division. The disease runs rampant throughout the nation, panic amidst the horror. Some cry out to the Elementals for help, while others blame them for the outbreak. And others try to find a source, and hopefully put a stop to this. Nothing has succeeded, not even a clue. The moment one thinks that they have it figured out, something happens that throws the research on its head. No one knows. But one thing is certain; Someone or something is behind this, and whatever it is, it must be found and stopped.
And with curiosity comes discovery.

He didn’t like Spring Court if he was being honest, he never had. The plethora of flowers and rolling green hills should have reminded him of his home in the Widowed Oak but Avalon City claimed a certain kind of overt perfection that differed strongly from the untamed wilderness that was Cloverwood Forest. Winter Court, he enjoyed well enough, there was something freeing about the endless snowiness of its mountains and the creatures (and people) that had proven themselves strong and sturdy enough to survive there. Going further north, however, as the tsarina had asked him to so that he could investigate claims of Ares Deerling’s human trafficking schemes while the High Lord was out of commission---that had been something else entirely.
But he was back now, with him he brought along an array of valuable information that he would need to somehow convey both the Winter Court princess and the Wild Hunt’s king. For how much longer would he be able to tow the line between his familial loyalty and the bond he’d developed with the Valentinas? The Hunt was everything to him, he’d crucify himself if it meant that the lupine fae would prosper, but could he deny that he didn’t feel similarly about Winter?
Still, Avalon City was where Carter was, really that was all that mattered to Cassian. That, and returning to his post as Princess Tatiana’s bodyguard. He wasn’t the only one going undercover, after all, and if everything needed to be done while the High Lord was still comatose, then ...
Still in his heavy furs, he arrived at Deerling Castle. Striding through the main hall, he spotted a familiar face---one Calliope Bisset. He knew the dutchess extremely well, she’d all but raised Tatiana and she was one of the few noblewoman (aside from Rowan) that Cassian actually respected. She was kind. Warm. Intelligent, even if she’d somehow managed to allow Ares Deerling to ensnare her in his tangled web of darkness and deceit. “Lady Bisset,” he called out across the hall, a wide grin stretching across his otherwise weary-seeming face as he took several long, powerful strides towards her, she was a welcome sight after a month spent in the mountains. He rubbed a large hand over the admittedly wild beard he’d grown in his absence, and inclined his head towards her in greeting, “Long time no see, petals. Got a second to catch up?”

Who You’re Gonna Call? - Breaky Week Day 7
A/N: My final piece for Breaky Week! It’s for the prompt Someone Dies (None of the Boys dies, don’t worry, it’s really fluffy) and I Kind of barely skimmed the prompt but I really wanted to write this so here it is. Also there is a Tiny reference to some gore and murder and a suicide Happening so if that’s triggering for you please be careful or just don’t read it. It’s really minor but just to make sure.
Can also be read on AO3.
+++
“Guess what I bought!”
John sat on Brian’s desk, kicking his legs against his chair, grinning in the way that made his eyes crinkle up and showed off his tooth gap. Brian tried very hard not to be endeared by it but failed.
“What did you buy?” He asked.
   “A spirit box!”
He showed him some weird device that looked like some kind of radio or walkie-talkie of some kind. Brian blinked several times, trying to make sense out of what John had said and what he was seeing.
   “A what?” He then asked.
“A spirit box! It’s really cool! You can talk to ghosts by scanning through radio stations and they can use the radio waves to string sentences together. In a way.”
Brian groaned in annoyance and buried his face in his hands. John laughed and boxed him in the shoulder playfully, obviously enjoying his pain. He almost regretted saying yes when John had asked him to join his weird ghost hunting show as a co-host but he knew it was John’s passion project and he was his friend first and foremost and he didn’t want him to fail at his job just because Brian didn’t want to risk being awkward around his crush. Also, he didn’t want to imagine how this would have turned out if head asked Roger to be his co-host.
It didn’t stop him from wondering why he even liked John, though.
Nobody frustrated him quite like John. It wasn’t just the fact that he kept arguing with Brian that ghosts were real- they weren’t- or that they seemed to disagree on many other things that were so trivial it shouldn’t matter. Except when it came to John, they did and most of the time, they could be found squabbling about one thing or another. John was also very fond of playing tricks and little pranks on him. It was never anything mean so Brian never got mad at him. It just didn’t made any sense why Brian fell for him of all people.
“Deaky…” He said, already feeling a headache coming. “You’re not really believing that, are you?”
John shot him a look that told him he did, in fact, believe it and Brian groaned.
“Alright, sure, I’ll humor you. How does it work?”
“I’ll show you at the location today. Finish up whatever you have to do and meet me at your car.”
John grinned and jumped off the desk and patted his shoulder when he passed him and Brian sighed and rubbed his temples before he went back to work.
+++
“Oh, that looks like a haunted castle right there!”
John laughed and spread his arms out as he grinned widely at Brian. Brian was frowning up at the castle. If he had to pick a location for making a horror movie it would probably this one. It was old, with ivy growing over the walls and the towers, the windows were dark and it loomed over them on top of a hill.
“I hate it already.” Brian said.
He shot the camera John was holding a quick look before adjusting his gear and double-checking the battery stand on his own gear. It would be a long night and he wasn’t exactly looking forward to it.
“Do you have your sleeping bag?” He asked John.
John gently kicked a bag on the ground in front of him and Brian nodded happily, crossing that from his mental To-Do-List.
“I can’t wait to meet some ghosts!”
Brian rolled his eyes on him but followed John towards the castle. It was even more creepy inside than outside. It was dirty- unsurprisingly, nobody lived here and the owners probably wanted to play up the whole ‘haunted’ look- and dark with weird portraits, old armors and typical medieval style decor around. And lots of spider webs.
“This is-” They both started at the same time.
“-gross as fuck.” Brian finished, wrinkling his nose.
   “-fantastic!” John said, grinning wildly.
They exchanged a quick glance, before breaking into giggles. They made sure to get some good footage of the unsettling hallways until they came to a big ballroom of some kind.
“Hello, ghosts!” John yelled, cheering when it echoed through the room.
Brian shook his head at him but filmed it anyway, keeping the camera on his face to capture the childish delight on his face.
“So tell me why we are here, then.”
John’s face lit up visibly and Brian smiled despite thinking this whole thing was kind of stupid. He was cute when he got excited. And if it meant he had to listen to a ghost story and John’s rambling for a while, then so be it. Brian sat down on the windowsill and waited until John had set up their tripod. Their legs brushed together when he sat down next to him.
“Alright! Welcome to another episode of Unsolved! Today we are here in the Thrawcliff Castle where some extremely fucked up shit happened and we will try and get some ghosts to tell us more about it!”
He smiled at Brian before he went off about the history of the castle. Apparently, some 500-ish years ago the son of a rich family that owned the castle started hearing voices and developed violent tendencies that ended with him murdering his three siblings and his parents, only to commit suicide afterwards. It was a unsettling and sad story but once John got to the part where he talked about people feeling presences and apparitions, weird happenstances and whatnot, Brian felt the need to roll his eyes.
He let John talk, not feeling like he had anything but skepticism to add and while that was the whole reason he was here in the first place, he didn’t want to dampen John’s fun just yet. Not that he would, John seemed to not give a shit whether Brian was a fan of a location or not, still excited and determined to find a ghost. Or proof of a ghost.
“This is going to be fun!”
“Well, at least you can see the stars very well tonight.” Brian added, a smile tugging on his lips.
“Stars and ghosts, we’re in for an amazing night!”
   “No ghosts, just stars, Deaky.”
John grinned at him, knocking their shoulders together, not even bothered by his lacking enthusiasm. He was probably used to it already, they have been doing this for a while now, after all.
“Why not both? They are not mutually exclusive.”
   “Ghosts don’t exists, stars do.”
   “How do you know?”
Brian groaned loudly.
+++
They decided to test John’s spirit box thing on top of the tallest tower.
It was a horrible loud, piercing noise and Brian physically flinched back when he heard it for the first time and it didn’t get better with time. Brian hated it. He didn’t think he could hate it any more than being in a unsettling place in the dark and sleeping there but he was proven wrong. John loved to do that and he managed it again.
“It switches through radio channels so ghosts can string words together to talk to us.” John explained to him.
Brian only barely resisted the urge to cover his ears.
“Let’s go and ask the ghosts some questions, why don’t we?”
It was stupid. John was just talking to static with no answers- the unintelligible stuff- didn’t count because it wasn’t words- but he was ecstatic about the whole thing and kept asking questions. Brian had no idea how he did not get frustrated by getting nothing concrete in return over and over again.
   “Isn’t that amazing?” John asked.
   “Amazingly annoying.”
John rolled his eyes at him.
“Come on, let’s do solo investigations!”
+++
The thing was, Brian didn’t believe in ghosts. He was a man of science and ghosts just didn’t seem like a plausible thing to him. Aliens, sure, space was just too big for them to be the only intelligent life form out there but ghosts? He couldn’t believe in it no matter how many different theories John proposed to him. None of the evidence convinced him enough to believe in it.
But Brian was still very afraid. Not because of ghosts, because that was stupid, but because there were so many other things to be afraid of. Ghosts may not scare him but potential injuries while being far away from medical help, getting an infection from the filthy surroundings and meeting some random serial killer sure did. The last one wasn’t really as likely as the others but he was still afraid of somebody lurking in the shadows of wherever they were, just waiting to get a chance to rob him or whatever. People were way scarier than ghosts.
So he hated the solo investigations because it was scary to be alone in a dark hallway in a creepy castle.
“God, fuck, okay. This is still stupid but here we go: Hello, ghosts.”
He walked down the hallway, his flashlight shaking slightly.
Their fans found it hilarious that the skeptic of all people tended to get the most scared. Brian liked to think it was because he had common sense. John would happily invite a demon to possess him if it let him prove their existence. And Brian could respect that dedication. He just wished it wasn’t ghosts and demons and all of these kinds of things John was so obsessed with. It would save him so much trouble.
   “Damn you, John.”
He slowly made his way down the stairs into the dungeon- because of course all the gory things happened in the dungeon and many gory and downright disgusting things had happened here if John had been telling the truth- and he started to question his life choices again.
“If there is anyone in here with me, please speak up.”
Of course there was only silence and Brian sighed.
“Please don’t make me use the stupid box. Just talk to me so we can call it a day.”
There was still no answer and Brian sighed again, louder this time, and set down the spirit box and turned it on, flinching at the ugly sound it made. He tried to get some ghosts to talk to him but- unsurprisingly- got no response and left the dungeon as soon as John called him to tell him his ten minutes were up.
“How was it? You scared? Met a ghost? Or a serial killer? Maybe a weirdo in a trenchcoat?”
“Stop making fun of it and get us a ghost, I want to leave.”
John laughed and made his way downstairs while Brian set up their sleeping bags in the ballroom. He could hear John yelling at the ghosts- air-, demanding them to show themselves and talk to him. He was mercilessly taunting him and Brian could never understand how John could believe in them and yet be so incredible fearless. He read all these stories about them doing terrible things and causing violence and stuff and yet he didn’t seem to be scared at all. Or his way of dealing with being scared was cursing ghosts out.
After a while, it grew quiet and Brian knew John had finished his private investigation and waited for him to come back.
   “Find anything?” Brian asked.
“Oh, I got some really interesting answers! I’ll show you later. Are you ready to go to sleep?”
+++
Brian could never sleep at locations and today wasn’t an exception. It was cold and uncomfortable and he was still afraid someone with bad intentions was going to show up. He just lay in the dark, turned away from John to see the door to the room which probably didn’t help his paranoia much.
   “Can’t sleep?” John asked quietly.
   “You know I can’t.”
He could hear John shift behind him and then he was kicked in the back until he turned around to face him. John’s face was barely visible in the darkness but he could make out his silhouette faintly.
“Nothing is going to happen to us. No bad people will come for us. No one but us and the ghosts here. And since you don’t believe in those, you’re good.”
“I know that.” Brian whispered. “It’s called an irrational fear for a reason.”
John chuckled softly and Brian hit him blindly in the chest, grinning satisfied when he let out a low groan.
“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you from any ghosts and serial killers. I promise.”
It didn’t really calm Brian in any way but it was a nice sentiment. He didn’t have to tell John that- he knew that- and so he didn’t and just let the silence between them drag on.
   “Oh for fucks sake, c’mere.”
   “What?”
Before getting an answer, John unzipped his sleeping bag and reached for him, pulling Brian close. John was way stronger than he looked.
   “Let’s zip us together.”
Brian tried to argue but it was a weak attempt and he held the flashlight so John could make their two sleeping bags in on big one. Then, he forced him to lie down facing away from the door, his head resting on John’s arm and their legs tangled together. His nose was almost touching his shoulder and Brian felt himself blush.
This wasn’t what normal friends did, was it? Though, normal friends wouldn’t go ghost hunting together either so was he really in any position to judge? John might not be the most touchy-feely guy but they had been friends for years now and he didn’t mind Roger or Freddie being all over him.
   “Are you comfortable?”
Brian nodded despite it being a bit of a lie. He didn’t know where he was supposed to put his hands so they were just awkwardly laying between them. John didn’t seem to have this kind of problem, easily wrapping his arm around Brian’s waist.
“Good, then sleep. I’ll fight any evil people trying to get to us.”
   “You’re ridiculous.” Brian said.
“No, just in love with you.”
Brian’s breath got caught in his chest. John’s bravery floored him over and over again. Of course he had no issues just confessing his love like this, as if it was nothing, as if he had nothing to fear, nothing to lose. Sometimes he wished he had even half of this bravery. But even now, he could not say anything even though he really wanted to.
“It’s okay, Bri, you can confess your crush tomorrow. Maybe over brunch?”
“Brunch sounds nice.” Brian choked out.
John hummed satisfied and pressed a short kiss into Brian’s hair.
   “Great, looking forward to it.”

Home Moving Tips Every Homeowner Should Know
Transferring to a brand-new home can be amazing. In spite of giving you a new beginning, it offers you with an opportunity to have a brand-new place you can call your own, and check out new opportunities.
Tumblr media
The fact that moving is terrific doesn't mean it is a bed of roses. It comes with its fair share of difficulties. Firstly, moving is doubtlessly one of the most demanding ordeals that homeowners face. It involves lots of procedures, which require one to invest a lot of time, energy, and resources. The bright side is, there is a way to prevent the discomfort that comes with moving. Below are a few of the top tips that will make your next move simple and smooth. 1. Select a removals company as soon as practicable Look-- there are thousands of movers in the contemporary market. Therefore, finding the very best mover can not be challenging. Well, if this is what you are thinking, then you need to unwind and think again. The availability of many removalists in the market makes it harder for house owners to find perfect movers for their needs. With a flooding market, it becomes difficult for local authorities to regulate this trade effectively. This makes it incredibly simple for masquerades to prosper. What is a lot more bewildering is the fact that all movers use different types of advertising, therefore persuading their potential clients that they all offer exceptional services that can not be discovered anywhere else in the market. This makes it simple for homeowners to select movers who fail to fulfill their needs. To ensure your move is stress-free, don't await the last week so that you can find an excellent mover. Do that as soon as now. You can find the best mover using an array of approaches that include; • Get referrals from friends, family members, or associates There are high possibilities that at least one of your friends, colleagues, or relatives have engaged a moving professional at some time. For that reason, seek to get as many referrals as you can. Ask all the questions that you feel will help you recognize the best mover. When you collect all the details you get, evaluate it, and identify the perfect professional for your needs. • Get referrals from other professionals such as roofing contractors, builders, and electricians Do you have contacts with home builders, roofing contractors, or electrical contractors? Well, these professionals continuously deal with movers, and they may recommend a company that will provide you a smooth transition. Therefore, seek their advice, take your time, and do research about the referrals you get and make an informed choice. • Browse the web With an internet connection, you do not need to leave your home to find the very best moving professional, all you need to do is check out multiple review sites, evaluate different experts, see what previous customers and experts are stating about them, and choose the one you feel can fulfill your desires. Try to find the mover who takes pleasure in the most positive comments, and one who has the highest ratings. • Visit local shops This is an overwhelming, yet the most reliable approach of finding a terrific removalist. Check out numerous movers yourself and do your due diligence. The movers you shortlist should have licenses and insurances, should be accredited, and should display the greatest levels of professionalism. Also, they must show you a portfolio of works carried out in the past to prove their experience and offer you a complimentary no-obligation quote. Given that you may get many movers who surpass your expectations, select the best that you can afford. Also, do not forget to trust your instincts! In addition, hire a mover who can provide you with specialised services such as packing, animal moving, car removals, and piano moving.

2. Make a list The 2nd and the most crucial thing you need to do when preparing to move your house is to make a list. Write everything that you need to do and include a timeline. Obviously, you are months away from the move, and you do not need to do everything now. Nevertheless, you will experience a great deal of tension if you choose to do everything during the last few days. Develop a list and mark every item as soon as you accomplish it. Doing this will ensure that you do not experience the trouble that comes with moving. 3. Get rid of anything you don't need beforehand Look-- movers will charge you for the house move based upon the weight of your load. This simply means that the more items you have, the more the amount of money you will pay for your move. Since you will not need everything you have in your brand-new home, consider decluttering now. Doing this will save you a lot of time and money in the long-run. Remember, you do not have to discard items you believe you will not need. There are a host of other options available, including recycling and donating. These are doubtlessly, the very best alternatives to consider!

4. Produce a packaging plan-- and pack now! Packing things can save you a lot of money. If you believe you have the time and you are able to pack things yourself, don't wait till the last week so that you can start undertaking the task. Packaging takes a lot of time. Therefore, begin doing it now. First, purchase packing boxes, or hire them from your mover when possible. Then, commit a couple of hours every day to pack a certain section or space. As soon as you are done packing, note that you will have great deals of challenges trying to put everything in its place when you get to your new home. Therefore, do not forget to label your boxes. Labelling packages could be as simple as writing "bedroom things" on the top of package. However, you may have numerous boxes containing bedroom things. Therefore, you will find it much easier when unpacking if you could include more information in your description, such as "clothes for the master bedroom." When packing yourself, avoid overpacking boxes. Heavy boxes are difficult to move and can break down and injure the person carrying them. If you have the budget, consider hiring professional packers, so that you don't have to go through the fatigues and other challenges that ride along with this ordeal. Besides, why do all the dirty work while there is somebody willing to do it for you at a small cost? 5. Know what you can't move There are many things that movers are not permitted to move. They include plants with soil, tins containing chemicals and paints, aerosol sprays, explosives, guns, and a host of other hazardous materials. You can donate a few of these things such as cans of paints and aerosol paints to your neighbours or to charity. However, you will need to eliminate anything dangerous before you move. You may also need to consult your local authorities so that you can determine how some items, such as guns, can be moved. If you don't wish to leave the plants, you have looked after for many years, get rid of all the soil from the roots, place them in pots covered with plastics, and move them yourself. Nevertheless, there are movers who provide plant relocation as a special service. Getting rid of items that can not be moved guarantees your safety and that of the moving team. 6. Know what to move yourself and pack it There are some things that you can not leave in the hands of your mover, even if he holds the greatest degree of professionalism. They include sensitive business files, home deeds, scholastic certificates, insurance documents, and wills. Others are super-expensive jewellery and paintings. If you are moving these items yourself, make sure you load them early. Because these items will not be covered by your mover's insurance, look after them throughout the move. For documents, scan them and save copies in a flash drive or in your mobile device.
Tumblr media
7. Make sure your brand-new home is prepared for occupation You don't wish to prepare your brand-new home the minute you get in. You desire your movers to find it all set so that they can put everything in its place, and you can settle in a day. Therefore, have the house cleaned and ensure it has all the fundamental utilities required. If you have the time, you can clean the house yourself, if you don't, consider hiring professional cleaners, or much better still, deal with a mover who offers cleaning services. 8. Pack a moving day survival kit Now that you have everything is prepared for the move, how will you and your loved ones make it through the moving day? Make sure you have a moving day survival kit packed with the basics. It should have all the items that will take you through the day, such as phone chargers, snacks, hot drinks, and toiletries. It is important to have easy access to things that will keep you well-fed and hydrated during the busy D-day. With everything prepared, you will have the ability to fall directly into bed as soon as the move is over and you are settled in your new home. 9. Don't exhaust your mind! Obviously, moving house is a big deal. You have lots of expectations, and there are countless things you need to be achieved. However, do not overwork your mind. Do not have unrealistic expectations on what should be done. Look-- it is highly unlikely that you will have everything unpacked and settle on the first day. It will take time to ensure your brand-new home illustrates your character. For that reason, don't develop the impression that everything needs to come together promptly. As soon as you get to your new home, take time to unwind. Enjoy the night in a local entertainment joint, or go out with friends (if you have some already in the new place). You can even use your survival kit for a couple of days before getting things in order. Moving is not a stroll in the park. Nevertheless, with the tips mentioned above, your relocation will be streamlined, and it might turn into among the best experiences in your life.
