Thinkin about that one post with people unknowingly handling dangerous animals (and rocks) without getting harmed and i think Joey would have that kind of luck so i drew it up really quick! XD
hi yeah piggybacking off of my season 4 yugioh post. what the fuck were they feeding the writers.
the animation was inconsistent and often times bad, the plot as a whole was painfully mediocre, and the beginning and end were both slop. but the characterization? best in the series. INSANE. every character was absolutely fucking on point the moment the actual premise of the leviathan and atlantis is not being focused on. mai valentine alone couldve carried this entire season. that’s not even talking about rex and weevil gaining major roles and actually having their characters explored (🤯🤯). not to mention the INSAAAAANE decision to practically role reverse joey n yami. yami being the hotheaded one to not think things through, the one to mess up and put people in danger, the one who has to learn a major lesson. meanwhile joey was out here showing compassion to mai and even rex of all people and making suggestions and plans and keeping levelheaded. WHAT WERE THE WRITERS EATING
I just had the craziest YGO dream I had in a WHILE. The plot was that Mokuba and Joey got in a Duel while Mokuba shared his brother's 'losing equals death' philosophy, which Joey was willing to risk if it meant Serenity could get her eye surgery money. Due to those factors it felt like a mix of an alternate Death-T and Duelist Kingdom, though Pegasus and Ishizu were also around cause dream logic.
Anyway, I remember the story looping as my character tried desperately to get a world where neither of them died--Mokuba died first and I remember Seto looking absolutely terrifying in a way nobody had seen before, then in the second loop Joey died and Tristan walked up and punched 'me' in the gut and I think tried to kill 'me' while Yugi begged him to stop. Ryou Bakura retained his memories and tried to help me with magic--I remember sculpting Mokuba's head out of dough and using it as a conduit to control his thoughts (dream logic) and later doing the same for Joey but all it ended up doing was making them surrender the Duel and die.
IIRC it was eventually solved by going to the arena ahead of time and planting poisonous spiders that gave people cancer (this was a dream), which got the whole arena shut down for 2 weeks while Weevil worked on cleaning it up.

Other notes: Firstly. Bruh. Why did they Mike Wazowski poor Honda?! Show the man some respect! Secondly, this is an interesting case. Even though the game is titled Duel Monsters and features characters from the DM anime, as you can see, all the artwork is from the Toei anime. Given that the anime ran from April to December 1998 and the game was released in December 1998, I'm guessing they possibly tried to ride the wave of the Toei anime to draw attention to the game. Maybe? Just wild speculation on my part, to be honest. More info on the game itself can be found on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki, including on how the game works.
