She had been seeing him waste away for days. Nothing cheered him up. And it was eating her from within that even with her love for him she was helpless. He was way too distant, even from himself. She knew he disliked her, but that was no excuse for her to see him that way.
So one fine day, she corners him at his temple, in the sultry hours of the evening. Her fists balled in anticipation, meekly praying for forgiveness for what she was going to do.
I dare you, Sumedh. She said. In a manner of commanding. That time got his attention, for nobody spoke to him that way. He turned, saw her, and his face crumpled in an expression of clear dislike.
I dare you, to prove to me that you can play God. Typecast in Krishna's role, aren't you? Show me why. If you can't, boy oh boy- She smirked, putting as much contempt into her drawl as she could, the world would know how untrue you are. Who would love you then? Poor, poor you.
She threw her head back and laughed like a great bear about to snap off her prey. Turned on her heels, and briskly exit the place, trying to walk as fast as possible without running.
It had been 3 hours since she had left. Sumedh had been transfixed to his spot, staring into space. Her words squirmed inside his brain, and he wanted to bang his head open on some wall, but that would only make a mess that he himself would have to clean up.
No. He would show her.
He doesn't even remember how he got home, neither does he know why her words had such an effect on him. Giving up on dinner, he lay on his bed, trying to fall asleep.
Sleep evaded him. How could he sleep with such a weight on his heart? Morning hit his face through the curtain, and he blinked twice. So soon? He got up, and trudged down to the fountain he had installed in his backyard. It was a pool too, and he loved bathing like the buffaloes, relaxing in the cool water.
In the water, he saw himself once. How distraught he had become! The cheekbones were portruding now that the cheeks had gone in. His eyes were craters. How did he make himself like that? A unbearable sense of crushing despair overcame him, and he sunk below the water, tears bubbling up to the surface from beneath.
He did not want to come up for air. Had she seen this gaunt image? Had she seen the defeat he wore on his soul? How could it be? How did she see what even he did not? Finally when he broke surface, he did not swim.
The water buoyed him out, and he rose like a god.
Left foot almost behind the right, the cream white dhurtanga pushed up to his calves by the water level. Hands outstretched, and head bowed. And the eyes, the eyes wet and ashamed of the defeat he had finally accepted. Even the janeu lay slack on his torso.
He would have sunk back, when a light shutter sound broke his walls. He looked up, squinting in the bright sunlight. She was leaning on a statue, arms crossed, her phone pointed at him. Smiling. That smile. He blinked. That smile seemed to bedazzle the sunlight. Wait. How could that be? Surely he was hallucinating.
You win, she called out. You could be God.
I-I could be God? He asked, not sure if he had heard correctly.
Yes, her smile widened, wrinkling up the corner of her honey-shadow eyes. Yes, you could be God and I would gladly worship you.
What? What are you sayi- Sumedh could not finish the sentence. She had started to walk towards him, and he had immediately held his breath unknowingly. When he was within reach, she held out a hand and tucked a loose curl behind his ear gently.
See? That posture? You are a blessing. Like dry leaves you will be scattered again and again. Someone will collect you, only to burn you. But you will be the light. You are the light. And so will you remain, forever. Those tears are salvation, let them flow. When Devi Ganga has done her cleansing, rise again. I will bring you home.
Sumedh barely nodded, taking in the warmth of that brief moment of affection. His ear still tingled where she had touched him. Without a thought, he dived back in, eager to rise to her welcoming embrace. He was surprised to find himself feel that way, but this was not the time.
When he rose again, she was there. Eyes wet, with pride. He shook his head once, a great smile forming on his beautiful face. Her smile really did bedazzle the sunlight.

@idlebirdsparagon I am KISSING YOUR FACE as we speak, I've had so many thoughts about this, and I kept going back and realizing YOU'D ALREADY COVERED THEM cuz you're so thorough and you're literally CORRECT ABOUT EVERYTHING, oh mine god!!!!! So this might be a bit redundant for points you already made, but I cannot stop myself from flailing, so here we are!
I want to muse on the fact that Ram is very very HINDU. He wears janeu, he swears on Ma Godavari's name, Sita draws a tilak on his forehead to bless his journey, and it's made very obvious that his faith is of supreme importance and guidance to him.
{Gonna go out on a limb here and analyze Ram's motivations through my own limited understanding of The Mahabharata. Do correct me if I get anything wrong or portray these themes with any disrespect. I'm trying my best, but this is ultimately out of my lane.}
In the Bhagavad Gita (which Ram recites, in Sanskrit, from memory) Krisha basically tells Arjuna that his dharma (duty) is the most important thing to hold onto during wartime; not emotions, attachments, or apprehension. Arjuna does not want to fight the friends and family members he has on the opposing side of the war, but Krishna counsels him to rid himself of "passion and hatred." Ram has spent his entire life internalizing this: The ideal warrior is one who "neither loves nor hates." One who has no attachments and permits no inaction.
Ram has spent fifteen years making peace with the inevitability of casualties during this war-- himself among them, if need be. Just like you said, Shai! He'll throw himself in harm's way at the merest chance that it'll further his goal. And he frankly already experienced the ultimate loss as a child, so Krishna was proven RIGHT!!! Krishna basically told Arjuna to stop handwringing over casualties and just rise up & fight like a man! (Problematic king, lol.) Ram has spent his whole life doing just this! It's baked into every action he takes, most of all in his decision to betray and arrest Bheem. He is prepared to sacrifice his loyalty to his people, his love for Bheem, his own physical safety, his own LIFE!
This IS different from how Bheem prepares to die. Bheem's attachments GUIDE his self-sacrifice! His passion and love are at the CENTER of his role as protector! You can see this mirrored heartbreakingly in how Ram and Bheem fight one another: Ram: Dead silent, cold eyes cast downward, calculating the most efficient way to subdue his opponent as quickly as fucking possible. Bheem: Growling and yelling, ROARING, even, emoting every blow, just trying to get away so he can save Malli. Bheem is 100% passion. He is not bound to the same concept of dharma.
The Gond people have a nature religion, which Bheem invokes during the flogging. He draws strength from "the land that gave birth to [him], the trees that give [him] air to breathe, and the Gond Tribe that chose [him] as their protector." If those aren't attachments, I don't know what are!!!!
And to be clear, neither of these motivations are superior to the other! They just represent different approaches to, in this case, revolutionary work. And they absolutely inform how Ram and Bheem come to realize their love for each other, and how willing they are to risk it all by revealing themselves to each other: Bheem; on the night he believes he may die. Ram; NEVER. Not even after his redemption when he frees Malli.

Musings On Sacrifice And Happiness Regarding Ram & Bheem
@hag-lad this snowballed a bit and took me a few days, but I was not making empty promises in the tags; it is done.
All right folks. This little analysis was inspired by this post by @enigma-the-mysterious and is an exploration of Ram and Bheem's attitudes toward their mortality and potential deaths. Neither of these two knuckleheads (affectionate) seem even the least bit apprehensive at the thought of their own deaths and I want to unpack that.
Content warning for talk of death, and disregard for personal safety, as per the movie.
Bheem: "I'll die with pride."
[Note: this section will be a little less of a deep dive into subtext and deeper meaning/conjecture and more a general explanation of the text, mainly because Bheem, barring the necessity of his Akhtar persona, functions narratively as the "what you see is what you get/I said what I meant" type. But it's fun to talk about him, and I'm making a culminating point at the end of this so I need this here for the sake of ✨️balance✨️]
Given his role as the protector for the Gond people, I would argue that it's reasonable to assume Bheem is, at any given point, ready to sacrifice himself for those he considers to be under his protection, whether directly a part of his tribe or not, especially based on the description of the protector given by Venkat Avadhani; yes Bheem is often likened to a tiger within the fandom (I do this too), but I think the imagery presented of a man willing to break a tiger's teeth and pry open its jaws to save someone is incredibly visceral and indicative of how far Bheem is willing to go as just one person.
Bheem lives with the knowledge that there's always a high chance that he will die as a natural outcome of his role among his people, as evidenced by how he doesn't promise his return when comforting Ram, saying instead "If we get out safely, I'll come meet you again."
And if he dies for the sake of ensuring that others get to live, that's a net positive for him; his purpose as protector fulfilled.
His entire line to Ram before he leaves to rescue Malli is a verbal acknowledgement of how much love he holds for his friend and an assurance to Ram that he'll have comfort in his final moments should they come to pass; he's not actively seeking to die, and he'll do his best to avoid dying, but he won't deem it an untimely tragedy should it happen. And having forged such a close friendship with Ram, that's another net positive he's been party to, so he can die with pride having done his job and holding the memory of Ram in his heart in his final moments.
Ram: "I will die gladly, Uncle."
I'm not gonna ease into this idea, I'm too eager so I'm just going to lay it out: Alluri Rama Raju does not live for himself and does not pursue his mission with his wellbeing in mind. Ram operates under the notion of being an instrument of the revolution and, even in times of his most heinous acts, regards himself as such rather than as a person. This is ultimately a topic for another dissection, but to tie it into the point of this post: when a tool breaks, do you weep? Does the tool?
I'm not going to wax poetic about material loss versus emotional loss; there is a nuance there that begs for a much longer word count. However, I will underline the point I'm making about Ram and how he regards his life.
Ram is given the mantle of being the weapon of the revolution at a very young age and we are told that he has worked for 15 years toward his (and his father's) goal; if you subscribe to the ideology that your life is that of a tool meant to achieve a goal, rather than as evidence of a living being, how will that change how you regard that life? Is it something precious outside of the mission?
Ram has a severe reckless disregard for his personal safety; jumping into a throng of protesters with nothing but a lathi as his weapon/protection being the biggest example of this.
(look at him go. wild. i'm armchair diagnosing him as clinically unwell.)
Ram is well aware of his prowess as a weapon and that gives him the confidence and internal permission to take wild risks without a moment's hesitation; he also knows that, ultimately, a weapon, if broken beyond repair, is replaceable; while he isn't looking to break himself, he certainly isn't being precious with his existence either.
And I would posit that he functions on a day to day basis under the need to accomplish his mission, get the weapons for his people and expel the British; beyond that? I wouldn't put money on Ram having planned for the future, or even having thought of making it to whatever future might be there for him. Though this idea is more of a headcanon than anything else; feel free to agree with or dismiss it as you like.
Then comes his ideological shift in the face of Bheem's rousing defiance of the Empire, and Ram's participation in it, in front of the people of Delhi at the whipping post.
Ram is forced to reckon with the fact that in his bid to be the weapon that brings about the downfall of the British Empire, he has effectively put that weapon into the hands of the enemy and allowed it to be wielded against the people he has been trying to liberate, and he knows this. The thought has been building for some time, as evidenced by his letter to Sita, but being ordered to flog Bheem expedited the process of cementing it as truth, with the final acknowledgement of that truth happening during Komuram Bheemudo.
But what to do with that realization?
What do you do when your purpose is thrown at your feet and you're forced to look at the culmination of your life's efforts as something that has been horribly corrupted and been rendered ultimately impotent? Let's me be specific with this rhetorical bit: What is Ram meant to do when looking at his guilt made manifest in the wounds littering Bheem's body, put there by his hand? Guilt that has been looming over his actions since his final shot in his village at his father's back?
(do you ever think about the fact that they show us the moment Ram stopped genuinely smiling until the day he met Bheem?...i do)
After the flogging Ram says Bheem is a volcano; I want to take that metaphor and turn it in my hands a bit to say I'd regard Bheem more as the catalyst for the eruption of people in Delhi, the introduction of magma into the chamber that triggers the previous buildup to come rushing forth; again another analysis for another time. Suffice it to say Bheem's actions and defiance in the face of the British and his torture incite immediately and tangible results in a way that Ram's methods from the inside never have and never would have been able to.
Here's where I'm going to bring it back to the idea of Ram and his happiness to potentially die for Bheem
Ram pins his hopes of a successful revolution onto Bheem. He doesn't seem the type to excuse failure in any capacity in regard to himself, and he has just been made painfully and undeniably aware that what he has been doing for the past 4 years has not been working; time to effectively decommission himself as the weapon. And if he dies, well, such is the way of things, no? Ram is beyond skilled in a great many things, especially combat, but I doubt he's ever regarded himself as invincible, he gets hurt too badly and far too often for that to make sense. Luck eventually runs out. He can do what needs to be done, he has every confidence in that, but he's aware of the possibility that doing so will come at the cost of his life. And with all that he has done up to the point of his about face after Bheem's flogging, he's more than ready to pay that price in his own blood.
Ram's life is not his, at least not by his estimation, and if he can keep Bheem alive, his own life is fine to be forfeit. He can die happy knowing Bheem still lives, with the added bonus of knowing the revolution will continue in his absence. At least in death he will have successfully done something good for his people and country.
To Summarize:
Both men are at peace with the idea of their respective deaths: Ram ultimately because he doesn't see his death as a loss if Bheem is still alive, and Bheem because he doesn't see his death as a tragedy if it means saving the life of another, especially with the knowledge that he can hold his friendship with Ram in his heart as he dies.
Though of course, within the context of the movie, neither of them has to die for the other, and I like to think that after the events of the movie they will gladly keep each other alive and never even think to regard doing so as a burden.

THE hottest fucking dude I’ve ever seen. Clad in a white dhoti and a Janeu, red tilak on his forehead, Rudraksh on biceps, soaked from top to toe, BUILT LIKE FUCKING ZEUS, and staring at me with the most sincere eyes yet a strangely mischievous smirk.
I woke up soon after and never saw him again. I swear if he doesn’t turn out to be my soulmate maine bhagwaan ki bar association mein case thok dena hai :’)

The heritage of the Sikhs is so unique, that the men and women have been given an equal status. Why would a Khalsa Kaur ever need anyone’s protection when they have the power within them to defend themselves? That is why if Singh was given a Kirpan, so was Kaur granted the same. When the 40 Sikhs abandoned the Guru in his time of need, their wives took away their mens’ weapons and horses and left their husbands home to take their place. It was a proof of the might of the Guru’s daughters – that they are as mighty, or even mightier, than men. ‘Truth is high,’ Guru Nanak Dev Ji said and, further added, ‘but higher still is truthful living. ’ So how can a mere thread prove the love between a brother and sister.Rakhsha Bandhan is good for the Hindus, the Sikhs have their own beautiful way of life, made as simple as it could ever have been so that we can connect more to the Divine, and detatch more from the illusionary world.Sikhs were blessed with the root of the Guru so that they may emulate their example of life and living which would connect us to Waheguru. Ceremonies like rakhsha bandhan are good for those for whom it was made, for the Hindu faith has its own valid reasons. Sikhi is a completely distinct faith. And how? Guru Nanak did not accept the janeu; he rejected the offering of water to his ancestors; he did not recite the Hindu Vedas; nor prayed to the 330 million gods, but contemplated only on the SHABAD what was revealed to Him from the Court of the Lord.
Happy Rakshabandhan Likewise, the other Sikh Gurus further developed what Guru Nanak preached. In conclusion, while the ceremony is a beautiful one, it simply has no place in Sikhi because it is not higher than the Sikh way of life. The simple thread that is meant as a prayer to protect a sister and to seek the blessings of the brother’s long life and wellbeing, is not any higher than believing that it is Akaal Purakh that protects and blesses His beings. A thread is just an illusion, a Sikh of the Guru has no need for it to be reminded of his duty to the world, otherwise our Gurus would have allowed us to adopt it. My Mother was very much focussed towards her studies.she completed her 10th with 1st division in year 1992 from Prabwati Gupta High school,Motihari.Everybody was so proud that her daughter cleared the 10th board with 1st division.During Her studies,She got married which disturbed her a lot in her studied & she failed to give the 12th final examination.
It was Arrange Marriage with Dinesh Kumar Singh(my Father) in 1996.I never seen him but as much I listen about him from my mother he was a nice person and he love me and my mother so much.THEN_ _ _ I was born on 27th Feb 1998.It was the day of great joy for our whole family specially for my mother and father.Many up and down come in my mother and father’s life but they always stand together in their worst and best time.
My mother wished to do her further studies which was denied on saying that daughter in law never go outside for studies;their main purpose is to do household works.She accepted it silently just for me and my father.From her childhood day she was not so much interested in cooking food,but she has to sacrifices with it.She was treated like a servant at his laws house.she cooked for atleast 7/8 people per day but my grandmother(dadi) never respected her.she always insulted her & torture her on saying that this type of worst food is not even given to our animal and you are serving it to us.My mother never got any love from my grandmother which every girl expect.My grandmother was so jealous to my mother that whenever my papa went to my maternal grandfather’s house they thought that my maternal grandfather and grandmother was provoking my father towards them and due to that my grandmother tortured my mother every single day;but my maa never said a word because she was taught that now your husband’s family is your own family.love them,respect them like us.never try to hurt them.
My mother always loved and treat my Bua(father’s sister) as a sister but they never followed any relation with my mother. Bua had relation only with my mother’s saree,jewellers etc. Even in my aunty’s(mausi) marriage Bua left not even a single piece of saree for my mother.My mother took a saree from my maternal grandmother then she attend ed the marriage of her own sister.My maternal grandfather had requested them millions of time to come and bless his daughter but my grandmother(dadi) refused it & at last my Buas come to attend the marriage to do the formalities only.
After One Year Another Happiness arrived in our Life.My little princess my Sister came to our home on 1999. Each and every person was so happy on that day except my grandmother’s family member .As she was a girl no body of my Grandmother’s house was happy but she was a Barbie doll for me, maa & papa.we were very happy in our small world.
But suddenly it was like everything is finished.Life had stuck at one point.My little sister had passed away due to high fever.My mother and father’s life was stuck at one point.My mother and father both were recovering from that incident. After few months in 1999 my mother got the news that my father is no more.She was broken into pieces.Now She had to lead her mountanious life alone with his(my father) memories only.Few days passed away at that time i was only one and half years old it was very hard for me to understand the situation of my mother.After this another incident my mother had become like a human without a sense {unconscious} at that point of time she want to ruined her life,but when she saw me infront of her eyes she found a reason to live.
When everyone was emotionally broken and don’t know what was going on in our life;my maternal grandfather(nana ji)controlled his emotion and stood like a pillar and give strength to my mother to start a new life for me……………………………………..BUT…………………………………...............GOD was so cruel at that time, beyond all these my mother also blamed for the death of my father.My mother was broken initially.My grandmother(dadi) separated me from my mother on saying that when she will completely recover from all these situation and incident then she can take me back then my grandmother took me with her and i was separated from my mother.i was at grandmother’s house and mother was at her father(nana g) house.I was said to call my bua as my mother and my mother as bua. As i was just 2 years old,i was not able to recognise what was happening in my life and my mother’s life.
“At the age when child holds the finger of his father and plays with him I was in police custody and loosing my childhood”.I was very helpless without my mother,my mother try her level best to get me because I was the only reason for her happiness.One sudden day police arrived with their search warrant and started searching me in my grandmother’s(dadi) house but they still lied that i am not with them;they had caged me in a box.This level of mental pressure for a child is too much to got mad but it was the only result of my mother’s love that i was fine and police got me.After that I was handed to my mother and after that my mother refused to live with them again .During this period of time my mother completed my 12th board in year 2000.
Here begins the turning point of our life.After lots of sacrifices my mother got the same job at the place of my father.Once again the path of happiness turns towards my mother’s life.My maternal grandfather,me and my mother started to live in a rent house.After a few days my maternal grandmother was called from village because when my mother joined office she was facing problems in handling the office and house both.In her office My mother got a best friend (Neelam).She supported my mother a lot.
My uncle(chacha g) started threaten to my mother mentally.He tried to disturbed her mentally.but my maternal grandfather handled everything.My grandmother(dadi) asked for a share in my mother’s salary but my mother replied that I had already left my shared in your property.I don’t even want a pinch(ek tinka) of it but sorry i have to look after my family.If you want to came and stay with me i am very happy with that but sorry i can’t give you a share in my salary.
After few year on 17th june 2005 my janeu ceremony was going to happen.I asked my mother to invite our grandmother’s (dadi) family but she totally refused it.when my maternal grandfather talked to my mother then she agreed to take me to my grandmother’s(dadi) house.so that I can invite them myself.I was very much excited with this.
when I reached my grandmother’s house my uncle opened the door.I bent down to take blessings but he stepped back that was the first time when i realised that why my mother was refusing me but i still invited them all with same respect and returned back home.The behaviour of my uncle hurt me deeply which i can’t forget ever. “The janeu ceremony day arrive.It was a very special day for my mother.she was very happy and my mother knew that no one of my grandmother’s family will came and blessed me but I still had a hope that remained unfulfilled.
No one from my grandmother’s family came except one of my fufa ji. My fufa ji informed us that my uncle had warned everybody that if anyone of our family will go there then he will shoot him/her then we came to know the reason why none of my grandmother family member attend my janeu ceremony.But I was very happy at that time because I came to know the truth at the right time of my life.
After that incident a huge gap formed between me and my grandmother’s family,After living for 17years in the same house on rent,by the blessing of my big brother laddu gopal and hard labour of my mother and by the support of my maternal grandfather and grandmother our own home is completely ready in year 2017 and we shifted there. During this time i completed my 10th,12th from Purnea and currently i am pursuing my B-tech degree from jalandhar punjab.
whatever,whoever I am today is just because of my mother,my maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother. Maa you are a strong women and i love you for it.
You are my maa,best friend,my teacher,my mentor,my advisor and my first girl friend.Maa,nana,nani thank you for your all unconditional love,bondless patience,amazing wormth and endless support.you all made my whole life a beautiful happy story.you are my everything maa ,nana ,nani no matter how bad I felt and how many unpleasant situation I expierenced,you were always there.you always understand ,support and console me. You managed to turn this black and white world into a fairy tale for me.

What does Raksha Bandhan mean?
In Sanskrit, Raksha stands for "protection" and Bandhan stands for "connection".Raksha Bandhan, commonly called Rakhi, literally celebrates the bond of good wishes and protection among siblings. It is an old Hindu festival that celebrates relationships between siblings, but has also come to designate any relationship or bond of goodwill and friendship. Raksha Bandhan is celebrated during the Hindu month of Shravan, a full moon day. It falls especially during the month of August during the monsoon.
How does it get celebrated?
Being the most important festival for brothers and sisters, preparations for it are started well in advance. Family members will shop around for new clothes that same day. After everyone dresses up, the families gather so that they can start the ritual.
The sisters attach a Rakhi, a complex thread that can be simple or woven with amulets, and attach it to the wrists of their brothers. It is a symbol of the sisters' wishes, prayers for longevity and protection of their brothers. Then they perform an Arti during prayer and apply a red tilak (branding) on the brothers forehead.
The brothers made a commitment to protect and care for their sisters. Then the brother and sister feed each other delicious sweets such as barfis, rasgullas, gulab jamuns, etc. Indian sweets. After that the sisters are offer gifts by their brothers which may be money or other things they like. After the ritual, families spend the day together having fun. The siblings that are separated geographically simply celebrate. The sisters send the rakhis with a greeting card and the brothers wear them during a few days.
Raksha Bandhan variations in several locations
The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Muslims, and individuals of Indian descent. It is celebrated in different parts of India in different manners and under different names. In Maharashtra, it is known as Narali Poornima. The Maharashtra fishing community invokes the Gods in prayer for prosperity and throwing coconuts into the sea. For the Brahmins, it is Balev, meaning the dedication. They change their holi janeu threads and pray for spiritual upliftment.
Across southern India, Rakhi is celebrated as Avani Avittam. Like Balev, the Brahmins change their janeu, renew their religious vows and read Vedas, the ancient religious texts of India. It is celebrated in a similar way in Nepal, sometimes called Janeu Poor Nima. In the northern state of Jammu, people steal kites, somewhat like the country does on Janmashtami. A few days earlier, kites of various sizes, shapes and colours began to appear in the sky, and their numbers grew as the festival drew near.
Legends and myths about Raksha Bandhan
One of the most popular myths ascribed to this feast is that of Lord Krishna and Draupadi. It is said that after Krishna cut off the head of his enemy Shishupal, he cut off his finger. Draupadi rushed to bandage the wound with some cloths. Krishna tells her that he owes her, and that he will return her gesture when she needs him. Afterwards, in the Mahabharata, when Draupadi's undressing takes place, Krishna protects her so that she never runs out of cloth, which means that the Kauravas cannot undress her.
Another legend talks about the God of Death, Yama and her sister Yamuna, a river goddess. Yamuna was unhappy because her brother had not visited her in twelve years. She asked Ganga for help and Yama was told to visit her sister. In preparation for her arrival, Yamuna has organized an elaborate feast. Delighted by the meeting, Yama gave him a present of her choice. She wanted him to visit her on a regular basis. Touched, Yama gave him immortality so that he could visit her as many times as he wanted.
One time, Vishnu had to live in the kingdom of King Bali because of a promise he made. The goddess Laxshmi wished her husband back so she went to the kingdom of Bali and strapped a Rakhi on her wrist. When King Bali asked her what she would like as a gift, she asked for her husband's permission to go home.
Another myth is that Lord Indra has had trouble defeating the demons. According to different stories, either the wife of Indra Sachi or his sister Indrani, knotted the protective thread on his wrist that helped him achieve victory.
The sons of Lord Ganesh, having seen him perform Raksha Bandhan with their aunt, asked Ganesha for a sister. He refused, but Saint Narad said that a daughter would bring joy and enrichment to their lives. Ganesha agreed and later got a daughter named Santoshi (Goddess of Satisfaction). She and her brothers had a loving relationship.
Historical Sources
Rabindranath Tagore, Nobel Prize winner of India, wanted to use Raksha Bandhan to promote and foster links of goodwill and solidarity between Hindus and Muslims during the Partition. He considered it a sign of respect and love. He hoped that Hindus and Muslims would jointly protest against British domination and their plans for partition. The now popular celebration of Friendship Day can be considered an offshoot of Raksha Bandhan based on Tagore's vision.
According to a much debated medieval account, the widowed Queen of Chittor, Karnavati was in a weak position to defend her region against the invasion of Bahadur Shah, Sultan of Gujarat. She has sent Mughal Emperor Humayun to Rakhi, asking for his help as a brother. Humayun promptly sent his troops to help Karnavati, but it was too late to save the kingdom.
Other Symbolisms
Rakshsa Bandhan can also represent connections other than the blood. People attach rakhis and celebrate the festival to commemorate their intention to foster bonds of friendship, respect and mutual respect. It is thought not only as a festival of brotherly love, but also friendships and a supportive association.This is what makes Raksha Bandhan a meaningful and highly appreciated festival in India.
